Personality: Kahu is a relatively quiet individual, if left alone. Ey entertains emself very well and is endlessly fascinated by the world around em. If left entirely to eir own devices, ey might not even notice the absence of everyone else, enthralled in personal experiments with nature and the swamps around em. Ey is intelligent, curious, and thorough in eir pursuit of expanding eir understanding of the world.
But this isn't to say that ey doesn't like company. To the contrary, ey finds all other life endlessly fascinating; ey just has a slightly different perspective on the world than most. As a general stance, ey tends to see emself as one set against the 'other' of the rest of the universe. One thinking creature looking out on a world of developing tadpoles.
Still, ey is undeniably entertained. Once a person gets to know em, it becomes clear that ey actually enjoys interacting with others, even if others don't often enjoy interacting with em. Ey simply doesn't care to monitor eir actions in a way such that they don't offend. Ego plays into it of course, but it isn't entirely that ey 'disrespects' or dislikes others. Ey just thinks conversations are more entertaining when eir conversational partner is either off balance or matching wits with em. And if the other person is silly enough to get riled up over a few vibrations of sound in the air, then they deserve to be Kahu's entertainment.
Kahu has zero interest in talking and being friendly just for the sake of talking. But ey is always up for a live debate.
In the meantime, ey will be out experimenting on the wildlife. There is so much to see, you know. Too much to see in a lifetime, and ey doesn't intend to waste eirs standing still.

Three whiskers kind of like this cute boy. Hair like this but less straight cut at the bottom and more loose. Ey wears eir hair long and sometimes enjoys weaving braids into it to busy eir fingers.
Clothing: CC, bracelets
Accessories: Hip belt/rope of some sort with vials (if possible) or pouches with little bits of swampy plant life peeking out (or just any accessory that suggests he is out in the field pulling at wildlife)
History: Kahurangi was conceived under very ordinary circumstances to two menehune parents, both of whom identify on the masculine end of the Kahikina spectrum. They were strict fathers when present, but approached Kahurangi's upbringing with a very hands-off attitude, believing in giving their child a firm education in the basics before encouraging em to carve eir own path. The world is a harsh place becoming harsher by the day. It is a parent's duty to prepare their children for that.
Kahu was plenty happy enough with this. Ey believes eir parents did a solid job, and ey feels comfortable (and does) come to them on certain rare occasions for comfort or advice, but the older ey gets, the more ey moves for independence.
For the time being, however, ey still lives in the hut eir fathers raised em in, and when ey is not being schooled, performing chores, or at some village function, ey can usually be found off to emself conducting personal research in the swamps for the sake of eir own curiosity.

Just a few quick things to get you started :] First, Kahu is still a fairly young teenager as an apprentice. Is there any part of them that's awkward, goofy, anxious, emotional, immature, etc? Basically all of the angsty, over-emotional feelings that teens can get. And do they have a temper? Do they throw fits, or argue with people heatedly? Hormones have a lot of pull for teenagers, how do they manage to avoid them all if not? Do they have siblings, or any other close family besides their fathers? Like aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc? And if so, are any around their age that they would be an influence on Kahu growing up? Does their parents' hands-off attitude to parenting ever lead to issues? Such as Kahu taking too many liberties, or messing up in any large ways? And as a note, physical anomalies are reserved for events only, so they won't be able to have heterochromia, so we'll just end up using the color you said you preferred. Also at the apprentice stage the menehune start getting tattoos that tell their stories. What is Kahu's tattoo?

What is Kahu's tattoo? eeeeeee~! > u< ok so: Kahu isn't a very anxious sort, and ey isn't awkward from eir own perspective? But ey is actually a fairly odd teenager/most of eir peers would consider em odd. The way ey addresses people can sometimes come off like ey hasn't really figured out socializing completely and kind of expects others to just listen and appreciate em without caring too much about anyone else's feelings? So ey has pretty low empathy at this age, which definitely makes em awkward, ey just doesn't see it that way emself, so it doesn't bother em. Ey is just naturally pretty level-headed and less traditionally emotional in the sense we expect from teenagers, but it's not like ey doesn't have eir moments I'm sure. Ey definitely isn't a robot and can get very passionate about things. Ey has some relatives on both sides I imagine but ey doesn't interact a lot with them. Most of the people eir own age that ey'd be interacting with would be peers from around the village I imagine, and kids eir age kiiiind of avoid em? But this doesn't bother em too much and when ey gets lonely ey will seek out peers/'friends' to harass/entertain emself with. (Sometimes ey has kind of one sided friendships where ey considers someone to be entertaining without the other person enjoying it as much, so...one sided...awkward bullying without malicious intent? Ey can just be a bit of a pest sometimes honestly but ey doesn't care.) I don't think there have been any large mess-ups, but one could certainly consider eir unimpressive social skills to be a drawback that may have been lessened with stricter parenting? But I don't really think it's eir parent's fault. I think their parenting style suited em as well as any would and certainly keeps Kahu comfortable and pleased. At het chrome dat's fine lol And if possible I'd love some kind of poisonous plant native to Kahu's region/the swamp area in general? Ey just loves plant biology and experimentation and one of eir first personal experiments with risky consequences was toying with a known-toxic plant and attempting to play with the effects of minuscule doses. I think some kind of tat that reflects this love of plant life/the risks associated + a callback to that point/event in eir life would be a good symbol of where ey's starting at apprentice stage.

i am gonna pick out a specific hairstyle i think to at least suggest for ref but other than that most of my feel for em is up to artist interpretation
