XXXXX[At first glance the most noticeable attribute of Kotaro is his condescending and regal air. However, his reserved and noble visage merely presents the tip of the iceberg. Excluding those of royal blood (daimyo and their kin), and the 5 Kage he views all others as lesser. This outlook has led him to being rather domineering in most social interactions. For those who know him personally, his most notable trait is his righteous anger and undying love for Sunagakure. Consequently he expects those who don’t meet his lofty standards to obey the orders of the Kazekage without question.
Those who fail to obey are often exposed to the deeper and wilder side of Kotaro’s personality. He becomes violent with those who don’t adhere to the values and will of Sunagakure. As a result of his short tempered nature most people in his civilians fear him.
Despite his intimidating demeanor, Kotaro is a warm and loyal ally to those who side with him. XXXXX[ As a young member of the sand village Kotaro found himself constantly plagued with aristocratic duties and lessons. Despite his place in a relatively lesser known family a great deal was still expected of him. From a young age he was repeatedly drilled on the proper manner in which to speak, how to engage in politics, and the proper forms in armed and hand to hand combat. His small stature made him the butt of many jokes among his peers despite his talents . However, Kotaro made his mark through his prowess in combat training.
Upon completing his basic training he trained in the desert for countless hours, making himself with the seemingly endless terrain until he learned the vast sandy expanse like it was the back of his own hand. His instructors often beat into him hundreds of ways to murder a man with nothing more than sand; each was more violent than the next, and he was good at it. He excelled at the art of stealth, completing most of his tasks efficiently and quietly.
It was after his stint in the desert that he “graduated” to the next phase of his training. His remaining days back in Sunagakure saw him strapped to a stone table in a dark room next to others who’d made it as far as he had. His instructors, once trusted tears, had now become vicious torturers and interrogators. Each day and night they endure excruciating torture and from dawn until dusk they were forced to endure their ear splitting screams of their fellow apprentices. Kotaro suffered from forced poisoning that stifled his breathing and stiffened his body with each wave of pain until his body could just barely fend off the snake venom he’d been injected with. When his body was at his weakest his instructors would often stop by and gingerly break a limb or a rib to ensure his pain never ceased all the while asking him to betray or leak information about the Sand. When it seemed that he’d finally built up immunity to the venom his instructors began cutting his flesh. They issued countless small lacerations all over his body, it was a method best known as “death by a thousand cuts”. When the pain and loss of blood became unbearable Kotaro often found himself drifting somewhere between searingly painful exhaustion and blissful unconsciousness. Whenever he shut his eyes for too long his instructors would awaken him by tearing one of his nails away savagely. But, it was the burning that finished it. His mysterious instructors often bathed slabs of iron in flame and when they were at their hottest they forced his hands and feet on to the red hot surfaces until his skin burned away. Finally, when he sought solace within the sanctity of his thoughts they assaulted his mind with illusions in attempt to sway him or test his resolve. To be free, he needed only to renounce the Sand Village and yet Kotaro refused. He loved his home and the people in it. For a boy who had nothing Sunagakure meant everything. He’d sooner die than betray his home. He wouldn't be moved.
After year, somewhere in his infinite mental dance with pain he found a cruel won peace. He’d come to the conclusion that pain was nothing more than an illusion of his mortal flesh. It was a primitive feeling brought on by base animal instinct and nothing more. Like emotion and pleasure it served very little purpose. It was a hindrance. While in this state of mind he did not cease to feel the pain his instructors inflicted upon him but he grew to accept it for what it was. It no longer stifled him. He no longer flinched, winced, or cried out. It was only when it became apparent that he’d reached this sought after state of mind that his instructors released him.
Neither relieved or disappointed that his ordeal was over his mind recalled only one thing, his love for Sunagakure. He emereged from the tutelage of his “instructors” as a loyal and lethal weapon in service of the Sand, a blade poised to strike out at their foes should they ever come.... [Editing] ]
