"A Knight's duty is to protect... but that's not the reason I fight for Blake! It's because she's the person I want to protect the most in this world!

Blake seemed to share the same sentiments that Rowan had, her arm wrapped around his as they leisurely rode the wolves down the mountainside. Was this what peace felt like? It had been so long since the man had experienced it... that the idea of it had slowly faded away from his thoughts. Between dying, the witches, and war on the horizon, Rowan never thought he would see days of peace like this once again. The two of them had to actively seek out danger to even find anything threatening in this world. Abelid was continents away too, preventing them from carrying out their war efforts to destroy Carmillion. Who knew the witches would end up saving the world by transporting everyone to a different place. Carmillion's probably the safest its been in centuries. The only problem is that we're so far away from Eldrin now. Travel's been simplified... but it's still too far away to consider it an allied nation that will defend us effectively. For the first time in a while, we're almost completely by ourselves with very little military to show for ourselves. Rowan thought to himself as he contemplated the world's current state of affairs.

This peace was almost ruined by some giant boulders began to roll down towards their dire wolf. The others had been somewhat ahead, so they were safe, but he, Blake, and the one they were riding were in a direct collision course with these rocks. Sighing slightly, Rowan simply rested his chin on Blake's head as the three of them disappeared and reappeared a little ways away, completely safe from harm. Due to his third eye, they could have easily avoided the rocks a different way... but this one progressed their journey a little bit faster and kept the from making any detours. At first, the terrified wolf would not move... but Rowan eventually spurred it into action after it saw that it was no longer in any danger. "Traps, getting lost, ambushes, it's kind of strange for them to be so ineffective now. I remember the days where I used to fall into pitfalls and get frustrated. Now I see them miles before I would ever get tricked into falling into one." Rowan muttered to Blake, almost regretful about how knowledgeable he was now when it came to being outside.

Their journey continued as the two of them reached the bottom portion of the mountain, the rocky surface flattening off more and making it easier to push the wolves to run instead. "I wish there had been a Knight academy when I was growing up. Something like that would have been absolutely amazing for my dreams. Instead of becoming a soldier, I could have trained to be a Knight instead. The kids of this new world, they're going to have it far better than we ever dreamed of. Specialized schools to train them in their respective fields, guaranteed work once they become full-fledged Mages and Knights, and they get to live around the people that they're a part of. The fact that Eldrin's even building the school in another country shows how much they want Knights and Mages to become a standard part of this world. They're pretty much sacrificing having guaranteed fighters for their kingdom by letting another place host the school grounds." Rowan commented, trying to make small talk about what was going on with Eldrin's school. It was pretty obvious that Rowan was looking forward to visiting the place.

"I don't care about being noble... or saving others. The only people I wish to protect are people I love. Take that as you will."

It's a trap! One of your party members gets caught by a trap! Given that they're sharing a mount, I'm not gunna roll. It'll be said mount!

As you're descending the mountain, a loud snap can be heard before the rumbling of rocks. It's distant first but gets very loud very quickly as small boulders descend upon your party [can Rowan even become victim to traps? xD].

As the two of them managed to make it quite a ways down the mountain, Rowan noticed the hand of one of the skeletons he had fought a while back. Apparently some creature had snatched up the arm and carried it down the mountainside with it. What was peculiar about it, however, was that it was holding onto some sort of paper. Was that a map to the treasure they were talking about? Rowan knew that they were searching for something... so one of them had to have some kind of map. As they approached it, Rowan casually got off of the wolf and walked over towards the arm, crouching down and observing it for a few seconds. Seeing as how his third eye did not trigger, Rowan could tell this was not a trap of any kind. "It's safe to touch. It's a bit disgusting... but I guess that's the price you pay for adventure. Maybe it's a map for that treasure they were talking about earlier." Rowan called out, plucking the parchment from its grasp and looking it over real quick. Unfortunately, a familiar sensation hit Rowan as his eyes scanned the intricate runes and marks that lined the paper, a glow issuing forth as he dropped the parchment and fell backwards.

This whole even was very similar to when he suddenly gained the third eye ability. Rowan had been reading a scroll that suddenly burned the skills into his mind, allowing him access to the ability. It was almost like reading an instruction manual that only he could observe. Getting to his feet, the young man watched as the parchment burned away, signifying that it had accomplished its goal in placing an ability on another. Rowan, however, did not feel too well after being knocked backwards by the spell. His mind was full of information that suddenly singled out one ability that would remain, the rest of it fading away. Like an instruction manual, Rowan's mind became completely aware of how to invoke the ability that was written about in the scroll. It had been an ancient ability used before the time of the Knight and Mage system, something that people found to be quite effective even after the dawn of the system. "I see... I'll have to keep that in mind next time I go adventuring with someone then." Rowan muttered to himself as he picked himself up off the ground.

The man casually moved over to the wolf and climbed on top of it, putting an arm around Blake to keep her from falling off the wolf. "Don't worry, it didn't do anything weird to me. Those kinds of scrolls always knock you off your feet when they hit you." Rowan commented to her, trying to reassure the young woman that he was perfectly fine despite what had occurred. "Anyway, I think I'll give a few of these gold coins to Lucy and take her to Japan. I'm sure she's already started watching all the television she could after coming to this world." Rowan was pretty sure what kind of shows his little sister watched as well. She was incredibly fascinated with magic, so the anime culture probably trapped his little sister in a never-ending spiral of television viewing. "I just hope Nat doesn't let her sit in front of the television all day instead of getting her out of the house." Rowan commented, not too sure if Natalia took her duty very seriously when it came to his sister. Lucy needed to be watched quite a bit or else she would get into all sorts of trouble... and Rowan was not sure how well Natalia kept Lucy out of trouble.

As Rowan and Blake neared the base of the mountain, Rowan caught sight of a similar dragon to the one he slew yesterday. It did not seem to notice him and continued flying a little ways to the east. Following its flight, Rowan's eyes widened slightly when he saw another range of mountains off in the distance. At first, he had dismissed them as nothing more than some of Japan's mountains before Carmillion simply dropped into the middle of the continent. Instead, however, he started realizing just what the range was as many black dots seemed to be flying around it in the distance. "So that's where they come from... I've always wondered why Carmillion's forests were filled to the brim with dragons. It's because it's right next to a massive dragon nest. An entire mountain full of dragons..." Rowan muttered, looking on at the sight in absolute horror. There was a reason no one had mapped out such an area before. If they had not unveiled this mountain, the two of them would not have even had a vantage point for which to see the other mountains off in the distance.

"Whenever someone got too close to them, they'd just eat them and fly off back to their nests. They've gone unnoticed by Carmillion because you can't see the mountain range from the forest... and Carmillion is too far to see them over the horizon. Not to mention the mirage this thing was making obscured the mountains behind it. It was the perfect spot to set up a nest and simply populate over time. It must be swarming with thousands of dragons..." Rowan muttered, not sure what to think of such a thing existing. "It's probably as densely populate as the Sky Platform. We haven't even finished exploring that place and we're already finding dangerous places similar to it." Rowan commented to Blake, slowly urging the wolf to begin moving forward again. "We're definitely going to have to report that to the Carmillion council. That'll probably close a lot of missing person cases too. If we had known that was right there then we would have never ventured this far out into the forest. Well... most of us wouldn't have." Rowan corrected himself, realizing that he had very little to fear from the environment at this point.

As the wolf's paws touched down on the grass in front of the mountain, Rowan turned his attention back towards Blake. "Maybe they'll eventually give you a spot on the council if you discover any more of the world. Satellites have trouble picking up places filled with magic energy, so information like this is in very high demand. They can set up no-fly zones now too." Rowan commented, kind of happy that Blake might get even more recognition from the world with their discoveries. Bringing honor to him always made him feel like he was properly doing his job. "Let's stick to the roads though. I want to get home before the week's up. We already have another day of travel ahead of us." Rowan commented, not wanting to run into anymore trouble while they were out on the road. Even if they mostly ran into nothing on their way back, it was better than being stopped every hour or two to fight some creature or pick up another magical item. It took them nearly two days just to reach this mountain and scale it properly. "Home..." Rowan repeated as he stared forward.

Is this a mountain range? This must be a mountain range. Anyway, congratulations! You've discovered a new area to explore: Dragon's Peak! 'Cause why just stop at a fae-themed mountain, am I right?

▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱ Blake was nearly as stunned as the wolf when Rowan teleported them all past the falling rock trap. While there was a time the woman had gotten used to the sensation, it had been several months since then. With a sigh, she pat the frightened creature on the head. "There, there. Nothing to worry about. I have no idea how it works or what happens during the in-between. Just be happy you make it to the other side," the woman cooed, half-heartendly trying to soothe the wolf. She glanced back past Rowan to watch the rocks that had threatened to sweep them off the mountainside. Traps and stuff weren't really a problem for Rowan, were they? "I'm sorry, are you complaining about not becoming a victim to a rock slide?" Blake asked with a grin. The thought was a little amusing like getting caught up in traps was some kind of challenge that no longer posed a threat. Remembering having gotten caught up in one some time ago. At least he was able to prompt the poor wolf into heading onward. Though she wasn't in any sort of rush to get home, keeping still out in a place like this was its own sort of danger. Despite the trap, it seemed their descent was going to be pretty calm.

It wasn't long before Rowan once again brought up the school Eldrin planned on funding. She couldn't help but wonder if he was excited about its establishment. "It's probably a sign of good faith, having it be in another country. Means that they're thinking about more than just themselves and their own development. Although, I'm sure their being the major provider of the funding will drive the students to seek them out. Kinda jealous, though. Something like that would have been really cool back when we were younger." Even if it had existed at the time, Blake had a feeling that her mother would have wanted to train her herself anyway. Necromancy wasn't a very accepted school of magic, after all. Playing with dead bodies, bending the rules of life and death, many used it for the wrong purposes and others had a bad opinion of it. She wondered if it would be taught at this place, if there would be equal focus on Knights and Mages or if it would mostly focus on combative training. What would the curriculum be like? They'd definitely have to go check it out. Her making an appearance at such a thing would be good for both parties, and Rowan seemed pretty excited about visiting as well. As Blake thought about this, something else seemed to catch the knight's eye.

A skeletal arm had been separated from its owner. It had the same amount of decay as the band of undead they had encountered earlier and was gripping onto what looked like a scrap of paper. Disgusting, huh? I'm glad I keep all the ins and outs of preservation on the down low. Seriously, I'd rather deal with something old and dried up than having to put a mutilated corpse back together. Blake wondered if the treasure the group had been talking about before was Excalibur itself. "I'd feel kinda bad for them if it is a map. Shouldn't they had found it already? R-Rowan?!" The man had been knocked off his feet while reading the paper. She nearly fell herself when she attempted to rush off the wolf, having to catch herself on the creature so she didn't take a dive. Luckily, Rowan was already back up before she could more carefully dismount. Scrolls and magic books were dangerous. They dared one to read them only to bite back for doing so. Blake briefly watched the knight with a somewhat concerned expression as he moved back over to the wolf. After that stupid bird, she didn't want to trust anything out here. Everything seemed fine, though, and Rowan assured her of such. The elf eyed him pointedly for a few seconds more before he changed the subject to Lucy.

"That sounds like fun. She'd be excited for something like that. Don't worry, though. Natalia's got too much of a soft spot for her to leave Lucy alone long enough to watch too much TV. Actually, she'd probably say she doesn't watch enough!" Thinking about it was kind of funny. Lucy was the first one to find some sort of broadcast or coverage on the idol. Blake never thought the kid would be so entranced with magic and the like. The magus really didn't know what she was expecting when sending that letter request... It was probably one of the best decisions she'd made, though. At least in her opinion. Having Lucy around the house was like a light. "No need to fear! Your little sister has been well taken care of! We wouldn't dare just leave her cooped up in the house all day. What kind of guardian would that make me?" Blake asked, smiling as she made the joke. She went on talk about the sort of things they did together around the city. Natalia hadn't been the only one affected by the kid's charm, after all. If the fae got going, it was hard to stop gushing over her. She was in the middle of just that when they came across something... troubling.

In the distance, they could see another mountain range, and it was riddled with what Blake could only assume were dragons. A place like that... it wouldn't be a problem for Rowan, but if any normal person stumbled upon it... Rowan's assumptions about the landscape were about as good as hers. It was doubtful anyone would just happen upon that area, and even if they did, they certainly would not last very long. An idea crossed Blake's mind, and she pulled out her phone, turning it on and flipping through pages looking for the little camera icon. She passed it twice before opening it up and snapping a couple pictures of the pass. These things are pretty handy, I have to say. Not that the council would doubt me at this point, but this will help get a scope on the numbers out there, Blake thought, spacing out a little as she looked on to the massive dragon's nest. Crap. How do I close this? "I doubt it," the woman answered. "Their acknowledgement is a little... begrudging? And I don't think they'd be very keen on having someone like me on the council, unfortunately." She didn't agree with how a lot of things were in Carmillion. While it would be nice to voice her opinion on the council and try to change the minds of others, the position would be in title only. Blake would simply be filling a seat, and that would be something people noticed. "Roads, it is, then. Can't keep everyone waiting, right?"

"If you focus too much on what could go wrong, you'll lose sight of what'll go right." ▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰▱▰
