Jarah was practically vibrating with excitement as he watched the eggs. "Look! The eggs are moving!" he cried.
Vannie smiled at the pair's excitement. "I wonder where that blue is going," she said. It looked like it was heading for the stands.

Jacepi was uncharacteristically silent for a long moment. He tugged on Vannie’s sleeve awkwardly. “Vannie, it’s talking to me,” he said. What did he do? He was too old! Too inexperienced! Shards, he’d never been a candidate!
You, lady. Make mine listen to me! He hears me but does not come! Mine, come to Tanarth!
“But I can’t have a dragon!” Jacepi protested.

Vanaryn's attention had been on the little blue heading for the stands when Jacepi tugged on her sleeve. "Huh? What's talking to you?" It took her a second to understand. Okay, so it took the dragon talking to her for her to figure it out. "You Impressed! You have to go down there!" she said and jumped up, tugging on his arm to get him up.
Jarah gasped and beamed at his parents. "Dad's gonna be a dragonrider too? Go go go! Go get your dragon!" he shouted excitedly and pushed Jacepi toward the stands exit.

Impressed?! But he couldn’t! He—...he had to get down there! He took Vannie’s hand, maybe by instinct, and hurried down to the sands with her. “I don’t know what to do,” he admitted, scaling the steps from the stands exit.
But then, there was another concern. “What do I do about my craft?”
