For a long time I thought that I couldn't draw even if my life depended on it but now I realized that drawing can be learned like any skill. smile

I think any talent, with enough dedication, can be learned by anybody. Here's a thread i made recently. I hope that with this thread i can help others feel motivated to keep drawing. You'll see some of my drawings since my first to my latest ; w;

Drawing, much like writing, is something that requires learning and practice. smile It's not a "superpower" by any stretch of imagination, for mostly that the mainstream media tells us so.
Will take a look and post my impressions there. wink

The media makes it all seem like you are born with the talent, when it fact, anyone can build it up. Yay!

Indeed. Not to mention how your self-esteem can take a lot of hits if you keep comparing yourself to the most experienced artists and their "epic" drawings you see on dA, ArtStation or on any other art site for that matter. Once you realize that even the "pros" "sucked" once in their lives and had the same start as you did, there's no reason to not give it a try ~ wink
Do you know the author who did those guides I'm following ? She has also two great articles based on it, which encouraged me to learn how to draw.
What's Your Excuse? Why Can't You Draw?
Don't Take It Personally: How to Make Critique Work for You (I've "re-posted" this one in dA in one of my journals)
Yay, yay! xd And I already posted my impressions, sugar. smile

I think it's the first time i have encountered people in here (you and those on my thread) that have similar views to mine on the matter. Who like too support others and encourage them. It kinda makes me a bit sentimental XD My ex wasn't really supportive, sadly. He is a great artist, with an amazing style... But he was pretty lazy about it. And whenever i wanted tips from him or to critique my drawing he would laugh it off or mock it... I'll bookmark these. I'm gonna need to gather all this kind of stuff to make another thread later on. Thank you so much!

I'm gonna need to gather all this kind of stuff to make another thread later on. Thank you so much! Oh, really ? Then I'm glad I've found someone like you too, heh smile I believe that generosity is what moves the world forward, above anything else. And that being generous with yourself first is essential to share it with other people.
Those two articles I linked to you were really "life changers" to me, and it also motivated me to re-post one of them in dA and rethink my concepts about drawing, talents and improved my self-esteem of a significant manner. smile
Well, looks like we both have cases of unsupportive people who were supposed to be our "friends". But I don't wanna talk about it right now. What I wanna talk about is that this is a classic example of people confusing criticism with a contest of who's gonna be the biggest jerk of all. I've learned the hard way once that being "honest" or "genuine" doesn't give you a license to be a presumptous and rude know-it-all, stomping on other people's feelings and thoughts in order to impose your ideas.
Yes, I was once like your ex, until a webcomic artist put me in my place. It was the "kick in the butt" I deserved to push me forward toward my quest for knowledge in the Journey of Life. lol You did the right thing to ditch this person out of your life, like this artist did to me.
But back to the present: you should really save those with you whenever a critique or something puts you down. You even might as well print it too! biggrin And you're welcome.
