Mbizi HP: 163/200 MP: 85/100 --- Straw Man HP: 150/150 MP: 0/0 With a grin, Mbizi stood back to admire his handiwork. The strawman was a bit lumpy, and his head hung off to one side , but for the most part, he would serve his purpose. Clapping his hands together, the nixie strode across the arena a ways before turning back to face his opponent. "Okay! How about we try torrent," he spoke to no one in particular as he prepared to cast his spell. His eyes flickered to the bucket of water beside the straw man, closing his eyes to envision the water springing to life to batter the dummy with aggressive rivulets. Something went horribly wrong as he cast his spell! A lapse in focus caused him to target himself, and before he could dive out of the way, the water lifted from the bucket, pummeling him back onto his bum with a yelp. Unable to help it, he chuckled at himself as he got back to his feet. "That's why they call it practice, eh?"
With a steadying breath, he squares his shoulders and faced the dummy once more. "Gonna hit you this time," he murmured to the straw filled target and prepared to loose the power of the skies.

“YES!” The nixie’s proclamation of triumph echoed off the walls of the arena, bested only by the the roar of the thunderbolt that preceded it. His eyes were alight with glee as he looked upon the smoking visage of the straw and fabric man before him. He'd done it! But now was not the time to celebrate. He was hear to train, and train he was!
Clearing his throat, he tried to compose himself once more as he decided which spell to attempt next. Perhaps Triage, as his rump was rather sore from his earlier tumble. Then again, he was still covered in water as well. It would be smarter for him to use hydrokinesis and soothe his bodily ache. It seemed only fitting, as he did wish to use each spell at least once in his session today.

As the water left on his body soothed his minor ache, Mbizi tapped a finger against his leg in thought. Perhaps he could track someone down and talk them into training with him. Battling a straw man was well and good for getting the hang of things, but a real fight would be so much more. He would have to stay serious, sharp. Maybe he should call it a day. Get some rest and try it again tomorrow. Possibly with a flesh and blood opponent and not this guy again.
The again… the thought of obliterating his dummy did make him a little too happy. So with a roll of his shoulders, he set out to cast another thunderbolt at the dummy. Now determined to reduce the thing to ash before he left.

The moment he felt the surge of power crackling through the air, he knew something was wrong. He just knew there was about to be a wild, uncontrolled bolt of electricity careening about the arena. Though his imagination was a tad scarier than reality, as all that really happened was an increase in static around him, making his hair stand on end in wispy spikes about his head. The air crackled and snapped at him, stinging and singing his skin in various places. With a wrinkle of his nose and a small smile tugging at his lips, he shook his head at himself. He was really glad no one was around to witness him bumbling his spells up so badly, though he was at least somewhat sure that they wouldn't have laughed. Maybe. He probably did look a sight; clothes still marginally damp, hair a mess. On second thought, they probably would have laughed.
“Few more and I’ll go home,” he murmured to himself. Through his elation, the fatigue of casting so many spells so quickly was beginning to wear on him. Still, he straightened his spine and commenced his attack on the dummy once more.

This time as the air about him crackled with latent power he felt the build up. Felt the pressure of the magic pushing through his body as a bolt struck the dummy head on. The flash, the boom, the heat. For a split second, it was a sensory overload for the nixie. He shielded his eyes, took a single step backward. His ears rang loudly as he dropped his arm, blinking rapidly to dispell the white splotch marring his vision.
The smell reached him first, singed cloth and burning straw, and as his vision cleared, his gaze was met with his opponent in flames. Not large ones, mind you, but flames all the same. “Oh crap! Ohcrapohcrapohcrap.” Acting quickly, he glanced over to the bucket and prayed to the Nine that it still held at least enough water to quench the slowly growing fire he had started as he cast his final spell. His hands shook from the drain on his energy and his head began to swim, but he had to do finish this.

As if his prayers had been answered, a jet of water leapt from the bucket, rousing the orange-red flames turning his dummy to ash. Which had indeed been his plan, but seeing him like this now… Burned, soaked, torn, and generally misshapen from the abuse, it caused a pang in his heart. Not one of guilt, particularly, but sorrow. He had, in a way, given the dummy life and his only purpose was to be destroyed. It was bittersweet.
Mbizi’s feet drug the ground as he walked out of the arena. He needed a nap now. Maybe food, too. But definitely a nap.
As he passed the straw man, he clapped what was left of his shoulder, offering it a small smile. “Good match, bud,” he whispered as his hand fell and he continued his way home, tired and sore but never more satisfied.
