Owen Hunt

Owen looked around for a moment before deciding that the warehouse was not the place to discuss this. He gave Minerva a nod which wouldn't really help her determine whether or not he was taking her advice and then he gestured for them to move out. Owen let Sam drive on the trip back to the house because he wasn't certain if there would be lingering effects from the drug and when they got back Owen went directly to The Stable and took several blood samples which he began tests on. Yet the tests would take time and so Owen found himself confronted with the reality that he had to go talk to Andrea. So went up to her room and, upon finding the door open, he leaned against the doorway. Katrina had advised patience but Owen was unlikely to heed that advice. He may have been the adult but he was also the most experienced member of the team. With the last team, everyone had been equals because they had all been equally given the exact same training. That was no longer the case. Now Owen was the most experienced member of the team and no matter how much he trained the other three they would not know the things he knew. That was why he lead, so that if something went wrong in the field it was on him. He could carry the burden of leadership. But he could not do it if his team did not work with him. "You did good today, in the field. You made a good call and it saved both my life and the life of that officer. That doesn't make this any easier." Owen paused "Your attitude is no longer acceptable. You question my leadership often and that is understandable. You and I have a complex relationship. But it is never acceptable to question my leadership in the field. Even less acceptable to risk telling a criminal what we are actually going to do after I propose a plan I want them to hear. That is how teammates get killed. So I want to end the issue today and if I can't do it diplomatically I will do it the only way I know will keep you safe. Tell me what's on your mind or I will send you back to your father."

By the time Owen appeared upstairs Andrea had changed out of her costume and into a pair of jeans and a black T-shirt. Her costume and most of her equipment had been tossed on the floor in a fit of frustration and anger. Most of her equipment. Pissed off as she was, she still couldn't bring herself to treat her crossbow with such disrespect, so it alone sat on her desk. When Owen appeared in the doorway Andrea was all anger and venom. Venom that died with Owen's opening words. Instead of saying what she had been rehearsing in her head (and of course assuming Owen's answers) the conversation took a much different turn, and she sat down on the edge of the bed a little lost for words. “I'm not a mind reader Owen, how was I supposed to know that was your plan?” She pointed out, but really Andrea was just stalling for time. What was on her mind? Where was she even supposed to start? “The Horsemen are supposed to be equals, not Owen and Friends.”

"The Horsemen were supposed to be a lot of things. You expected far too much from us. Too much from me. From the moment you met me, I have disappointed you because I was not the hero in your head. Because 'The Last Horseman' was just a washed up vigilante with a bad attitude." Owen knew very well that Andrea's first comment was just to stall. For that reason he skipped over it and addressed her more concrete concern. "Andrea we are not the Horsemen. The Horsemen spent nearly all of their lives together training and learning the same lessons so that when they went out into the field they had the same skills. This group- whatever we call ourselves- has only been around for a few months. I have the most experience, so I am in charge in the field." He had almost thought to mention that he also got to make the decisions because he paid for everything but ultimately he did not.

Well at least he was self aware. Despite everything Andrea couldn't help but smirk a little bit when he brought up being a washed up vigilante with a bad attitude, but it faded as he carried on. Andrea was nothing if not stubborn and she wasn't so ready to give up on the team she had spent years dreaming about. “I have been training for this my whole life. Well mostly.” There was a slight caveat to that statement. She could do all the detective work, tracking, hacking and other Horsemen like skills, but combat had been a major adjustment for her since meeting Owen. Her Father had raised a killer, not someone who took people in alive. “If I had just blindly followed you I would have fallen through the floor like you did. Hell if Sam hadn't have argued with you Katrina and I would both probably be dead. I know what I'm doing Owen. Just because we didn't grow up together doesn't mean we can't be a team. If anything our different experiences make us stronger as group, but not if we only do whatever you tell us to.”

Owen sighed slightly after Andrea had finished speaking. He had to remember she was young and that meant she had a certain idealist quality. Her father's training did not match her mother's. It also meant she didn't consider certain things that might be relating towards the old phrase 'don't bite the hand that feeds you.' Owen's face shifted to reflect a decision had been made and then he spoke again. "I don't want you to blindly follow me. I just don't want you to get pissed at me in the field and lash out. When you have ideas I will listen but I have a lot of issues so I'm not always gonna be receptive. It doesn't mean you can't go behind my back and get Sam and Katrina to outvote me."

Andrea snorted at that and rolled her eyes a bit muttering 'yeah right' under her breath. The only time Owen listened to Sam was after assaulting him and Katrina always agreed with Owen. Andrea didn't trust her, not that she had told that too Owen. A healer just happens to pop up right when they need one, that looks identical to Owen's dead wife and needs to be rescued. There was no such thing as coincidence. The teen crossed her arms over her chest. “If you don't want me to be pissed off all the time, you could at least pretend like you want me here. You've been trying to get rid of me since I first showed up at your door step.” She should have left where she wasn't wanted, but Andrea was too stubborn and proud to give up on her dream of being a Horseman.

"Andrea if that were true, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now." Owen responded in a much more calm tone than was probably expected. He didn't leave much time after he said that before he moved on. she needed time to think and he would give it to her. "I'll be working on a serum to counteract the toxins in our system and I'll try to identify who did this. Think about what I've said." And with that Owen was gone from the room. When he got back to the Stable it would be a short wait till the first round of antidote was produced. Owen tested it on a bit of synthesized toxin that the machine had also made but even with that success he could not be certain it would work. It was one method of counteracting. He would work out the filters next and then he would work out who was playing this game with them. Granted he wouldn't succeed at that until Sam came back with some reports he was getting from the apartment he kept on the side. Sam had some issues staying in Owen's house all the time for the same reason Owen did.
