Eligible For: Chromatic Only
Color Preference: green

The Rider

Name: S'vesi
Age: 27
Nameday: 2.19.3550
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: seems to lean more towards ladies
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Fighter
Physical Description:
A large, large man. S'vesi stands at 6'10" and is broad and muscular, though not all muscle - he likes his food and his drink and isn't vain enough to worry about it, so he has his soft places too. He has thick, brownish-blondish hair, a smattering of freckles under his green eyes, and often a bit of scruff.

Personality:
S'vesi is easy to be intimidated by: between his size, his scars, and his tendency to not speak unless spoken to, he comes off quite serious and formidable indeed. But while he certainly can be those things, there is a good, soft heart to be found inside this mountain of a man. Some of the reason for his quiet is that he harbors some social anxiety, partly out of natural inclination and partly due to a life spent sticking out like a sore thumb (at least before coming to the Weyr, which seems to be a gathering place for very large individuals). Throughout his life, most people have assumed that he is all brawn and no brain, and while that couldn't be farther from the truth, he has taken it to heart and has a low opinion of his own intelligence when in reality, he simply lacked much in the way of education. Regardless, he contented himself with the role of dumb muscle, and has never complained, even if that has been to his detriment. It's extremely rare for a complaint to pass his lips, or for that matter even enter his mind with any seriousness; given that his self-worth is so lacking, he is that much more inclined to simply suffer through things with little more than a shrug.

While not so unintelligent as he believes himself to be, he is a simple soul, and as long as he feels like he has a purpose, contentment is not out of reach. He does enjoy his comforts, though, so things like a warm meal and a decent spot to sleep (especially indoors) will make him a happy man indeed. He also enjoys company, even if it takes time for him to become comfortable, and is a fast and warm friend to those who earn his trust, which isn't a difficult feat. A kind word or gesture goes a long, long way with Rider, to the extent that he wouldn't be difficult to manipulate or deceive, as he has a wide emotional blindspot for those he perceives to be his friends. He is a good friend to have, himself, supportive and giving and always willing to lend a hand. He has a good, amiable sense of humor, and in all is a very easy man to get along with. Not much bothers him, except for the sorts of things that would bother any decent person, like displays of cruelty or malice.

He is a romantic at heart, though not strictly in an amorous sense - he is someone who truly appreciates and enjoys the beauty of the world around him, and is easily wrapped up in a song or tale. As hard a worker as he is, he sees no shame in stopping to smell the flowers now and then. His work ethic is solid, and he will set himself to any task given him without complaint, but he knows that there is more to life than work, work, and more work. What's the point of life if you don't enjoy it, and why not pause now and then to appreciate the wonders of the world? He won't shirk or be distracted from his duties, but in his off-time, he will absolutely take actual time off rather than try to squeeze in every moment of productivity that he can. Hard worker yes, workaholic no, and without an ounce of ambition.

As unambitious and easily contented as he is, S'vesi is not generally a self-motivator: he doesn't want rank or prestige, he doesn't need to be the best at anything, he doesn't...need much at all, really, aside from a bit of direction to get him moving. He settles into schedules and expected duties well, and will jump to help someone in a heartbeat if they need it, but isn't someone who looks for more work or even does much planning.

Positive Trait List hard worker, loyal, romantic
Negative Trait List low self-worth, overly trusting, unambitious

History:

S'vesi had a fairly unremarkable upbringing: two loving parents, two older siblings, two younger siblings, and a fairly comfortable life far from the struggle of places like Nabol. His parents were farmers, themselves the children of farmers, in lands under Redoubt Hold, so he grew up working the land. It was hard work, but a good life, and he'd likely have been content to farm for the rest of his days, had he not caught the eye of someone from the Fighter Hall. He was a big lad who was clearly only going to get bigger, and a fair prospect for that sort of work...and he had always been rather enchanted by tales of adventure, and been an eager spectator at tourneys.

Once apprenticed, he took to the work well, as he did to all work. With a purpose and clear expectations, he learned quickly and easily, and would eventually go on to become a Mercenary, mostly because he liked the idea of travelling. It was work that, of course, earned him his fair share of scars, but he didn't mind. Still, he didn't expect to do it forever, expecting to one day in the future - another ten, twenty Turns maybe - find a sweet lady, settle down and return to his farming roots and raise a family. A simple dream, but one he thought of often.

Long before that could happen, though, something most unexpected did: he was singled out by a Search dragon, who would take him to High Reaches Weyr to stand for an impending clutch. Three days later, the dragonets broke shell, among them an awkward green who encountered some trouble extricating herself from her shell. She took her time an eventually managed to free herself, and set off among the Candidates with no fanfare, only the occasional polite-but-friendly honk as she passed by, nosing fondly here and there at those she remembered from the Touching. She was perhaps halfway through her journey when she ran out of steam and had to call it quits. Flopping down with a sigh right in the midst of the crowd, she reached with her mind to call to the one she knew was Hers.

Not to be a bother, Sivesi, but might you come to your Hirondelleth? I'm very tired, and it's still a long way to you and then to the food.

It wasn't a bother at all, of course, and the man didn't hesitate to go right to her and scoop her up so that she didn't have to walk any farther. He carried her quite a lot, in fact, for as long as he could, which wasn't nearly long enough for either of them. They went on to a quite unremarkable weyrlinghood, consistently in the middle of the pack in their trajectory and achievements, and were fortunate to be only lightly marked by their Blooding.

The Dragon

Origin of Name: Hirondelle, dam of prominent sire Quebec. When a genetic study was done in 1994, a genetic bottleneck was revealed: the entire modern population of the breed traced back to Quebec, who was foaled in 1960.

Inspiration:
The Poitevin, a breed of horse developed in the seventeenth century in west-central France when horses of Flemish or Dutch origin, brought to the area by engineers working to drain the Marais Poitevin, interbred with local horses. Although it has the size and conformation of a draft horse, the Poitevin has never been bred for draft abilities, and has been little used for draft work. Its principal traditional use was the production of mules. Poitevin mares were put to jacks of the large Baudet du Poitou breed of donkey; the resulting Poitevin mules were in demand for agricultural and other work in many parts of the world. In the early twentieth century there were some 50,000 brood mares producing between 18,000 and 20,000 mules per year.

With the collapse of the mule-breeding industry in the first half of the twentieth century, the breed fell out of favor and the population dropped precipitously. Though conservation efforts have been underway, it remains an endangered breed, with just over 300 breeding animals in existence in 2011.

They are a slow-growing, heavy-boned breed that can be found in any solid color, including striped dun, which occurs in no other French drafts. Although the Poitevin has the size and conformation of a draft horse, it has never been bred for draft abilities, and has been little used for draft work. The Poitevin may be ridden, or driven in harness, both in competition and for pleasure; it is suitable for equine therapy. It has occasionally been used for light agricultural work in vineyards, in movies; as a mount for forest monitors, harnessed for urban work, and for the collection of waste. It may also be used for vegetation management: in 1994 the departmental council of Ille-et-Vilaine bought a herd for maintenance of marshlands in the area.

Personality:
It's quite clear from her appearance that Hirondelleth is a hardy dragon: she's a healthy girl, no doubt about it, with a good appetite and a fairly healthy outlook on life as well. She is mentally resilient in a very good-natured, optimistic way - while far from physically energetic, she always looks on the bright side of life, and has no trouble finding a silver lining to most anything that befalls her. She is an all-around calm and agreeable dragon not given to dramatics of any kind, content to go with the flow of life and be just another green. It's really not such a bad thing to be - after all, it means no one expects much out of her, and that's more than fine by her!

Hirondelleth is, shall we say, rather on the lethargic side. It's not that she can't work, or thinks herself above work, but that she moves at her own pace, and that pace is slower than most. Attempts to harry her into speeding up or pulling any more weight than she absolutely must will be ineffective at best, and cause her to dig her heels in at worst. This is a dragon who will need to be cajoled just so if she is to put in her best effort, her better nature prevailed upon to keep her working from day to day to day without losing all steam and motivation.

Fortunately, she is a 'people person,' and her fondness for others, both dragon and human, can easily be leveraged to keep her on task and doing her duty by fighting Thread. Really, fighting Thread in and of itself isn't the problem - it's all the practices and drills and sweeps and the work that's required between Falls that wears on her. Still, with a little gentle pressure and lots of positive reinforcement from Hers, she will be a fair enough wingdragon, though never the type to push her limits. She knows when enough is enough, and will not hesitate to bow out if circumstances get the better of her...or even a bit before they do. Hirondelleth may be built to take a hit, but that doesn't mean she likes when she has to do so, and won't hesitate to ask to go to the healers. It's just as well she was hatched at High Reaches, as she has zero desire for any sort of rank or renown, or even recognition by her peers.

Getting any of that would just be...so much effort. She would much rather doze in a soft field of wildflowers with Hers, preferably on a full stomach.

Positive Traits: optimistic, calm, sociable
Negative Traits: lethargic, stubborn, underachieving

NPC Egg: small

Adult Size: medium-large
Physical Attributes: Long of body, with strong, thick legs as well as powerful shoulders and hindquarters, Hirondelleth is insulated by a soft layer of chonk that is partly her build and partly an inclination toward laziness. Her feet are large and broad, her tail is longer and thicker than average, as are her neck- and tailridges, and she is also possessed of a long, thick neck and headknobs. In comparison to the rest of her, her wings seem short and small, though the muscles are thick and powerful, and so they still do the job of carrying her in the air. She was painfully awkward-looking as a hatchling and adolescent, but has finally matured into her build.

Additional Notes:
Though she may look like a powerhouse, Hirondelleth burns herself out quickly; this green has very little staying power, and even the half a Threadfall asked of her color will leave her absolutely exhausted. Her Flights will be short affairs, likely won by whoever is able to snatch her when she reaches the point where can fly no farther, rather than being much influenced by her own preferences.

Romantically, Hirondelleth does prefer males, though she has no eye for any particular hide, and is easily won over by sweet words or, better still, a gift of something delicious. Her hearts are easy to capture, so she may well be in for heartbreak if a beau proves untrue, but she will hold no grudge. It is, after all, hardly a surprise if they are drawn to someone prettier or shinier than she.

Impression Effect:
Sivesi will no longer be so inherently intimidating, as Hirondelleth will lend him an aura of warmth that renders him far more approachable: the warm and gentle man he always was on the inside will be much more apparent than it once was. He will also find himself with a bit of the magnetism dragonriders are often noted for, though not in excess.

Why Me?
Who else for Hirondelleth? While she needs someone who can help her appreciate and put in hard work when it's needed, a workaholic would have been far too much of a stretch for her. Sivesi, on the other hand, is just right, able to provide gentle encouragement rather than trying to push her too hard or too far, or to be something she isn't (and doesn't want to be). He will love her just as she is, in all her chonk and laziness, adore every inch of her slightly odd proportions, and spoil her with all the love he can give. In his eyes and heart, she is the prettiest and most perfect of green princesses, and there is nothing he wouldn't do for her. She will love him just as hard in return, and together they will be content, go-with-the-flow peas in a pod.

Name:
Age: 17
Nameday:
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: ??
Craft: Weaver
Rank: Apprentice
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description:
Bearing little resemblance to her tall and lanky father, NAME is a soft and curvy 5'5" with dark brown hair and doe-brown eyes.

Personality:
Chock full of the charisma from her father's side that made them such good Traders, NAME is naturally personable, but in a quiet and easy way. While good with people, she's not aggressively outgoing: she doesn't push her company or opinions on anyone, at least not overtly. She can be gently persuasive if she feels someone needs to be convinced of something, whether it's to encourage them to try harder or to let go of a toxic mindset, or just something as simple as trying that new thing they're not quite sure about.

NAME is a wonderful cheerleader and support squad for her friends, always willing to help and do what she can. She enjoys being a help, just as much as she enjoys putting her time and effort to a task. And she does put her time into tasks: she is measured and meticulous about everything she does, and would much rather take her time and get something perfect than rush and have it come out subpar. She hates to be rushed or interrupted, and the resulting fuss it leaves her in can completely derail her task and leave her at a loss.

Her life and everything in it needs to be just so: NAME is exceedingly particular about everything from her space, to her appearance, to her schedule. She likes a predictable, structured life, especially having come from one that was anything but. When this is disrupted, it throws her for a real loop, and it can take her quite some time to settle herself again. If, for some reason, she doesn't have the time to get her composure back together, her performance will definitely suffer. She does not like surprises, or having to make a decision without the time to think it through properly. Spontaneity and Inaisse are not friends.

She is a creature of habit and discipline who thrives in a structured environment, and who also very much enjoys her creature comforts. There is little more satisfying after a long day of hard work than a good meal and a warm, soft bed. NAME loves little indulgences - and big ones - possibly a bit more than she should. Temptations can override her usually careful decision-making process, and while she won't take what isn't hers, if it is free for the taking...well, what's the harm?

Positive Trait List meticulous, personable, supportive
Negative Trait List perfectionist, habit-driven, indulgent

History:
Born to a then-unaffiliated greenrider, Lezia of Erinyeth, NAME was given to her Trader father and his family to be raised, though she did not lack all contact with her mother - her father and his family were simply in a better postion to raise a child. As it was readily apparent from an early age that she had a personality ideally suited for Trading, everyone assumed that she would ultimately stick with the traditional family occupation, but by 12, she had decided that that would not be her path.

Though it was exciting, in many ways, to be always on the move, NAME much admired the Holds they visited, and was both fascinated by and envious of living life in just one place. It seemed to her the ultimate luxury, to have a proper bed in a proper building, to always be safe and comfortable, and to have more than just a handful of things that were hers. With a love for beautiful things, particularly for the fine garments that they sometimes bought and sold but had little use for themselves - what use for a sparkling dress on the road? - she asked to go to Weavercraft Hall, and was sent with no argument. Her family would miss her, but if that was her path to happiness, they wouldn't deny her.

NAME thrived at Hall, taking to her chosen craft like a fish to water. She was dutiful and dedicated to learning, and was an easy student, never a troublemaker or rebel. She was happy to be there, and would never do anything to jeopardize her place. Though not unfriendly by any means, she preferred to devote most of her time to her tasks and craft, rather than to socializing. She did fall into a few friends, mostly those of similar focus, and was always willing to help if asked to do so. She was quite content, and eager to one day walk the tables and become a Journeyman...but then, in a twist she'd never expected in spite of having a dragonrider for a mother, found herself Searched to Western Weyr. She hesitated, weighing her options - she had put in Turns of hard work toward her dream, after all - before ultimately agreeing to go. Much of her family, due to their roving ways, is especially vulnerable to Threadfall, and she couldn't help but think of them.

She is a bit unsure still about this new direction, having been quite set on her previous path, but as structured as Weyr life is, it's far from uncomfortable. Just different. It also presents an opportunity to, perhaps, get to know her mother a little better.

Other: Daughter of Pach's Lezia!

Name: Inaisse
Age: 17
Nameday:
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: ???
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Fishercraft Apprentice
Physical Description: Fairly short at 5'3" without being tiny, Inaisse has a fairly average figure, and sports pale skin, long strawberry-blonde hair, and light blue eyes.

Personality:
Inaisse is someone who is generally content just to exist, and requires very little in life apart from her basic needs. Provided she is safe, with a roof over her head to go home to and enough food to keep her going, she'll have few if any complaints. Her early life was simple but comfortable, and combined with her mild nature, made for a young woman who doesn't feel any need to strive for more, or question why things are the way they are. Everything is fine - or as near to fine as can be, given that Thread has returned - and there's no need to fuss. Things are the way they are, and Inaisse generally doesn't mind leaving them that way. If someone else wants to change things, more power to them, but she's just not the type.

Inaisse is practically the perfect wingrider: she does exactly as she'd told, without question, and though she looks out for her fellows, isn't given to daredevil heroics. She is consistent, safe, and eminently reliable. Not that she doesn't make mistakes or have bad days, just as anyone can, but she doesn't push boundaries, show off, or look for thrills. She just quietly does her job to the best of her abilities and gets on with things.

She has long accepted that the world is the way it is, and fits in nicely at High Reaches, as she is content to keep with the status quo. She doesn't think to question the way things are, and certainly has no mind to change them. Inaisse is quite complacent, and since she herself is content with the way of things, has no real taste for change or adventure. She will follow and do as she'd told, and be satisfied with her lot in life. Being so meek and mild, she is easy to push around or take advantage of, and even then, she just...can't really be bothered to mind very much. That is, after all, just how things are.

Positive Trait List mild, obedient, reliable
Negative Trait List meek, follow-the-crowd, complacent

History:
Inaisse had an altogether average childhood in an altogether average Minor Hold underneath Tillek. Having been born fifth in a brood of seven to a pair of fisherfolk, getting much individual attention would have been quite a task, and she just never bothered. Often in the care of older siblings while her parents worked, she largely entertained herself, and eventually her own younger siblings, with things like quiet little games and stories. It was a very simple, peaceful life, and though she had no feelings one way or the other about fishing, she never gave much thought to doing anything else.

That changed at 14, when she was Searched to High Reaches, something she'd never have expected in even her wildest imagination; while it was something one might dream about, it had never been anything more than a little flight-of-fancy daydream. Inaisse transitioned to Weyr life easily enough: she was used to hard work and doing as she was told, so she fit into the provided structure quite nicely. And, being both young and biddable, accepted the traditional hierarchy and view around her without question. She expected that, if she was indeed worthy of Impressing a dragon, it would be a green, and she was perfectly happy with that eventuality.

So she was quite surprised when, roughly a Turn after she'd arrived, she was chosen by a blue of all things. It made sense, though - small, follow-expectations Alskyth was perfect for the small, follow-expectations girl. Together, they are content to do as they're bid and be good little wingriders who never make waves, and take care of each other. They were, predictably, easy weyrlings, and are just as easy to have in a wing.

Other:

DRAGON
Name: Alskyth
Age: 2
Color: Blue
Size: 47'
Physical Description:
Slender and delicate, Alskyth has very little stamina even by blue standards, and is all speed and agility. In a very pretty package.

Personality:
Quiet and unobtrusive, Alskyth is easy to overlook or disregard, a fate he accepts with little more than a sigh. Not only has he fully absorbed High Reaches' traditionalist mindset, he's accepted some of the more negative elements of it as well, and views himself as quite an unremarkable little blue deserving of no particular regard from anyone. No one really needs to pay him any mind, certainly not even any of the higher-ranking colors! He can get quite flustered when he attracts the attention of any brown, bronze, or gold, even if it's nothing more than the briefest acknowledgement of his existence. Needless to say, if one tells him to jump, his immediate response will be to ask how high. Whatever they want from him, they will get in a heartbeat, rendering him a very easy dragon to take advantange of. He is ever happy to serve, or at least tells himself so.

In truth, while never bitter, he can start to feel a bit...neglected, though if anyone is guilty of neglecting Alskyth, it's Alskyth. He is, after all, the one who puts himself last and allows others to take what they will from him. While he has accepted that he is just a blue in a place where that amounts to very little at all, and has no jealousy when it comes to rank or prestige, he is desperate for just one special someone to notice him. He knows he doesn't deserve it, but oh, if one of those glorious browns or bronzes might look his way...

If someone were to deign to love him, they would have absolute devotion in turn, and he wouldn't hesitate to give them everything in his (admittedly limited) reach. When it comes to friendships, he will gravitate towards blues, greens, and whites, whom he sees as equals and thus the most fitting peers for him to have. He is a good and fairly easy friend to have, but know that he will always bow to the whims of higher colors, regardless of the opinions of his friends or the effect it might have on them - or even on his rider, though it might give him a bit more pause. It's nothing personal, just the natural order of things.

Name: Tihrokat
Age: 20
Nameday:
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Craft: None (fishes proficiently, but isn't formally trained)
Rank: None
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description:
Leanly muscled and of middling height for the Weyr at 5'10", Tihrokat is almost handsome, but has an adorable, energetic quality that keeps him just short of it. His skin is dusky, and his silver hair is roughly-cut, but more short than not. His right eye is blue, and his left violet.

Personality:
For someone as absolutely full to the brim with enthusiasm as Tihrokat is, he can be a little...lazy. He loves life, sure, and has boundless energy for pursuits that he enjoys, like fishing or swimming or certain more hedonistic activities, but when it comes to things he's not into? Siiiigh. Does he really have to? If the answer is yes, he will, but don't expect him to be quick and efficient at it unless someone is there to keep prodding him until the task is done, or there's an enticing reward at the end. If you want to keep him from dragging his feet (or getting conveniently distracted), he'll either need a carrot on a stick or a watchful eye and a dose of nagging, or else he'll simply go at his own pace and maybe be done by sunset.

It's something he's gotten away with for most of his life without any lasting repercussions: the youngest of five boys, and written off as rather simple, he just wasn't deemed worth the time or effort of straightening out. That, however, is something that's quietly stuck with him. Though it's far from immediately obvious, thanks to his cheerful and flirty demeanor, Tihrokat has very deep-rooted self-esteem issues. His mother wanted a girl but only ever had boys, and once she got to him, she was over it, and while she wasn't truly cruel or abusive, she didn't hide that he was a disappointment, either. His older brothers mostly found ways to make themselves useful, but lacking in both drive and ambition, as well as any other traits that would make for an effective pirate, he was deemed too dumb - as well as too sweet - to amount to anything. As a result, he's deeply afraid that he will never be enough, that no one really wants him around.

While he's so naturally sociable that he makes friends easily, no matter what they look like or where they're from, he's just as quick to worry that he'll fall by the wayside. No matter how strong the friendship, if a new friend (or significant other) comes along, he's like to assume that this is The End, and will withdraw and distance himself to keep out of the way of the new relationship, since he's clearly not needed. He will make himself miserable with such thoughts until found and reassured, and will continue to need that reassurance until he's adjusted to the new 'normal.' While sweet and attentive with both friends and lovers, he's incredibly clingy and needy, and has a difficult time being alone for long periods.

Tihrokat is bound to have a difficult, if not impossible, time with one-and-only relationships. While he loves, and very strongly, he doesn't seem inclined to fall in love, and is more likely to have friends-who-are-also-lovers than anything, but will struggle terribly if they go on to settle down with someone. That sort of change is very, very hard on him.

Positive Trait List cheerful, accepting, sweet
Negative Trait List hedonist, lackadaisical, needy

History:
Hailing from a long and distinguished lines of pirates, Tihrokat has gone on to add absolutely nothing to the family line - a disappointment, but not an unexpected one. His mother, Tihrakati, can trace a proud history of piracy back through her maternal line, and had thought to continue it further through a daughter of her own. Instead, she ended up with five boys: an adopted foundling, followed by twins, then another boy, and finally Tihrokat, at which point she cursed her luck and gave up. Though he wasn't entirely neglected, little time or effort was put into raising him, and he was often underfed. Once he was old enough, he was given menial tasks, and eventually some attempts were made at including him in the family trade, but he just...wasn't good at it. He had no guile, and liked people too much to want to rob or hurt them. He was entirely too soft to ever make for a good pirate, but his family was his family, and he did love them, even if his next oldest brother did bully him relentlessly, so he stuck to the menial tasks and gruntwork all through most of his teens.

The breaking point for Tihrokat came when he found a clutch of firelizard eggs and made off with one, only for his brother to take it from him. He stole it back while he slept, just in time for it to hatch, but once his brother realized what had happened, he beat him up badly for it, and broke the flit's wing. Tihrokat was devastated, and when they were next in Rivercrest, about a sevenday later, he disappeared himself - not that anyone bothered to look for him long. Though he'd taken some things besides his flit and himself, they were glad enough to be rid of him that it was considered a decent trade. He had enough to trade for treatment of his flit, though enough damage had been done that while she eventually learned to fly, she can't go very high or very far.

They scraped by in Rivercrest for a few sevendays, after which things might have gotten dicey had Tihrokat not been Searched to Western shortly after Kleoth laid her clutch.
