Name: Nashwa Age: 22 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: ??? Craft: Cooking/Courtesan (Hostess) Rank: Journeyman Location: Western Weyr Physical Description: Dark blonde hair, green-gold eyes, tanned skin. 5'4". Slender and fine-boned with sharp facial features.
Personality: Nashwa was born to be useful. Some might take issue with being relegated to the life of a servant, spending their days doing the bidding of someone wealthier or more powerful, but Nashwa doesn't see it that way at all. She doesn't like or need to be told what to do, per se, but she likes to be helpful, and she takes pride in her abilities. She truly enjoys taking care of people and seeing to it that their needs are met, and is able to do so without crossing over into hovering or being maternal. She's excellent at being there when she's needed, and staying fairly close at hand just in case she is, but every bit as importantly, she knows when she's not needed. Nashwa is the ideal servant: both attentive and unobtrusive.
Also critical traits in a servant, she is honest and loyal. While it's inevitable that, as a servant, she'll see or hear things she wasn't necessarily meant to - and, to be perfectly truthful, she enjoys it! - she'd never sell secrets or blackmail her employer, unless they were truly dreadful people...but she wouldn't be caught dead working for anyone like that. She'll see to it that she's placed in an upstanding household, thank you! Though she wouldn't seek to profit from information learned or events witnessed, that's not to say she would keep them completely to herself and never act on them, depending on the nature of them. Everyone knows servants gossip amongst themselves! Truly sensitive information wouldn't be shared, but the usual minor-but-juicy tidbits? Those are harmless, surely. She may also elect to be quietly, discreetly helpful, regardless of whether or not it's been asked of her. If she sees a need, she wants to meet it, and is as happy to remain anonymous as she is to be recognized. It doesn't matter if that need is a bedtime snack or an arranged 'accidental' meeting with a heart's desire, she'll do her best to make it happen.
For her, life is a series of tasks, sometimes one to the next or sometimes several at once, but there is always something to be done. These somethings, however, are never rushed through, each one given all the attention it's due. Nashwa may be busy, but she very rarely needs to be in a hurry, as her tasks are diligently planned ahead and organized. And if something goes wrong, well, that happens, she'll fix it. Panic only makes things worse. She keeps a cool head, and even if she is starting to sweat, she'll never show it.
So much of Nashwa's life revolves around other people and what they need and want that she's a bit lost when she doesn't have someone or something to focus on. 'Rest day' is a foreign concept, and she's more likely to spend time off preparing for the next day than she is to rest or do conventionally 'fun' things. At best, she'll use free time to cook and bake, to play with or invent recipes. Her vices are few and far between; you'll never catch her gambling, drinking to excess, or being anything other than responsible. She does suffer from vanity, but not in the physical sense: she knows she's good at what she does, and thrives in that knowing. She may not receive acknowledgement for the less obvious things she does, but for the tangible things like cooking and baking, she craves compliments, which may be part of the reason she cooks and bakes even in her off time. While she'd never presume to ask for them, the compliments and gratitude of others drive her.
Her parents are the Steward and Headwoman of a Minor Hold, so she comes by her tendencies and talents honestly.

Dezerac, finished.
Name: Dezerac Age: 25 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Bisexual (generally leans more towards women) Craft: Mercenary Rank: Candidate Location: High Reaches Weyr Physical Description: Long, dark brown hair contrasts with pale skin, laid over a well- but leanly-muscled frame. Dezerac is tall and elegant at 6'4", with a cool air and sometimes predatory bearing, and has hard gray eyes.
Personality: Dezerac is a man who knows what he wants, and has no reservations whatsoever about doing whatever needs to be done to achieve the goal or goals he has in mind. That being said, he also knows that the quickest, easiest, or most obvious path isn't always the wisest or most effective, and is adept at knowing which path suits not only his immediate needs, but will place him in a better position in the long run. He has a mind for strategy, thinking over costs and benefits, outcomes and repercussions, what the next step is and what needs to be done ten steps from now, and a hundred steps after that...and where he might need to adjust along the way, if things don't go exactly according to plan. He considers those possibilities, too, and will always do his best to turn a situation around or at least in his favor, but he knows that there is such a thing as a total loss. He simply prefers not to be the one losing. Outwardly, he'll deal with such matters gracefully, and though he might seethe inwardly, he'll move on in his strategies to whatever the next step has to be.
It's rare to catch him looking anything but calm; although he has an impressive and terrifying temper, even his worst rages are cold ones, and he almost never truly loses his head in the midst of them. He knows exactly what he's doing, and is that much more frightening for it. Even anger and violence are calculated, and whether he lashes out or takes his time, he is absolutely vicious. He is a man to be crossed at great peril, in no small part because he does, in truth, both embrace and enjoy violence. He is not, however, ever violent or cruel just for the sake of it, as without emotion or deeper motivation to provide a reason for the act, it loses much of the appeal.
There is more to strategy than confrontation and dramatic action, and Dezerac is just as good at more social forms of strategy as he is martial ones. He can be exceedingly charming, magnetic in the dangerous way that those inclined to power can be, though it's not a perfect mask and not meant to be: he's always just a bit cold, with a smile that doesn't often reach his eyes. He doesn't find it necessary to make a great show of it or prove himself, but lets it be unspoken to those astute enough to pick up on it that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Being as he is, Dezerac doesn't have friends so much as allies, people he benefits from being associated with or can trade favors with. He will always abide by the letter of any agreement he's made with someone, and depending on the value of the arrangement may or may not build in, search for, or exploit loopholes. If he does, it will be carefully considered, as with everything else he does or doesn't do. He hasn't had actual friends for as long as he can remember, as they're a liability from which he tries to distance himself, but does occasionally have people he becomes fond of for reasons he can't always put his finger on (not that he would say, if he could). He finds such relationships vexing, a frustrating affront to his otherwise self-focused and distant nature, and can vacillate from affectionate and attentive to irritable and possessive. Once something or someone is his, he has a very difficult time letting go unless it's his choice; whoever and whatever he views as his, he will hold to and protect with his last breath.
Positive Trait List head for strategy, charming, protective Negative Trait List ruthless, distant, possessive
History: Dezerac was born in Keroon Hold to Acrisia, the easily-charmed daughter of a Beastcrafter, sired by a mercenary captain to whom she'd taken a fancy, and who was gone long before anyone knew there'd be a child...not that he'd have stuck around anyway. Acrisia's parents were less than pleased, to say the least, and when Dezerin passed through town again a few turns later, they all but shoved the toddler off on him. Dezerin was surprised but not entirely displeased by this development, although having a young child in amongst a mercenary company had the potential to be an inconvenience, but it wasn't a first; Dezerin had another son several turns older than Dezerac, and had done all this before. If anything, it was easier this time, as Dezerac was essentially given as charge to his older half-brother, Mezrin; a responsibility that, by most standards, he was rather young for, but childhood was not a luxury they were afforded growing up in a company of mercenaries.
It was Mezrin that Dezerin was always hardest on, though Dezerac wasn't spared by any means if he chanced to displease their father. He had the fortune of being younger and thus able to observe and learn from Mezrin's missteps, but made his fair share along the way. Dezerin was rough with the boys out of what he saw as necessity, preparing them for a harsh world and the dangerous life of mercenaries, not out of intent to mistreat them and not for any sort of amusement, but the fact remains that he was not a loving or gentle man, and certainly not a good father. But he did get what he wanted: a pair of sons desperate to please him, whether out of fear or for want of attention, and who were sharding good mercenaries. In addition to being a proficient fighter, Dezerac is an exceptional hand with runners and mounted combat.
When Dezerac was 12, another half-brother came into the fold, and by this point Dezerin wasn't particularly interested; two sons were useful, in case something happened to one, but did he really need a third? Ilzerin was largely ignored and left to his brothers to mind, and if he disappointed in some way, that was on them, so while they weren't so physically rough with him as their father was with them, they did resent him and did nothing to hide it. As a result, he resented them in turn, furthering their view of him as an inconvenience and an ungrateful little snot.
At 21, Dezerac was Searched to High Reaches, a development his father approved of. A mercenary with a dragon was both much more useful and much more valuable, after all! But, Hatching after Hatching, Dezerac failed to Impress, gradually becoming more and more of a disappointment...and then Thread returned, and his brother Mezrin was among its early victims. Now Dezerac is the oldest, but daren't return to the company, not as a failure who's wasted all this time without a dragon to show for it. Perilously close to aging out, he's coming to accept that he never will return: he can't go back without a dragon, and with the return of Thread, he can't go back with a dragon. Regardless, the only way out is through, and he'll keep right on Standing until the moment he's no longer able. Mezrin was very possibly the only person he's ever really loved, and without a dragon, Dezerac was unable to protect him; maybe with one, he can avenge him.
Other: Nope!

Herg'r, finished.
Name: Herg'r Age: 34 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Bisexual Weyr: High Reaches Weyr Rider Rank: Wingrider Previous Rank/Craft: Mercenary Physical Description: Herg'r is a big, strapping man of 6'7", with green eyes and blonde hair that has a slight wave and is cut to shoulder length. He's got scars here and there and a nose that's a bit crooked from being broken, but he's attractive in a large sort of way.
Personality: Herg'r is made of pure enthusiasm, and he does not know the meaning of moderation. Whatever he's doing, he is 110% into it. Everything he drinks, from water to klah to wine, is pounded back; food is little different, and you can count yourself lucky if he finishes chewing before he starts talking; he sleeps like a rock and snores like an ugly wher; and Flights, man, don't even bother worrying about who's going to win, just come to Herg'r's weyr - everyone is welcome. Food fight in the Dining Hall? Don't blame the Candidates, Herg'r started it. Actual brawl in the Dining Hall? Also probably Herger. The man thrives on joyful chaos and can't stand to be bored. If nothing fun is happening, once Herg'r's in the room for any length of time, that is going to change.
He has a very broad definition of fun that can range from running around with the creche kids (and likely teaching them things they shouldn't know while he's at it) to eating and drinking with his wingmates (or anyone else) to drunken brawls with those same wingmates (what's a black eye between friends?) to fighting Thread. A handful and an instigator he might be, but luckily for his wingleader, he loves his job as much as he loves everything else he does, and he will give his all and then some. Of all the things he does, fighting Thread may be his favorite, and rather than dread it, he looks forward to it. The risk to life and limb only makes it that much more exciting, and it's not uncommon to hear him laughing while he's at it. He's positively gleeful about the whole affair, which is a disconcerting look on a man his size. As cavalier as he is about the possibility of injury (yes, scars!) or death, he's not irresponsibly reckless when he flies; he's not in a hurry to die. When he does, though, he fully expects that it will be in a blaze of glory and with zero regrets. Except maybe missing the wake, which had better be a party: seriously, guys, he expects drinking and feasting and brawling and sex. Combine them however you like. Do it for him.
Herg'r is incapable of monogamy and knows better than to try, but he's not a heartbreaker, either. He has genuine affection for all his lovers, it's just that he can't limit himself to one. Or two, or three, or...you get the idea. He's deeply attached and loyal to all his friends, and while he's the first to playfully insult (or punch) them, if someone else does so in a malicious way, he'll also be the first to break their face. He loves High Reaches because it's home, and on some level considers the whole Weyr his family. He doesn't have much of an opinion one way or the other as far as ideals and tradition go, and will happily let others debate it until they're blue in the face. It's easy for him not to care, since he has a bronze and gets a certain amount of respect and credit just for that, although he has absolutely no ambition. Rank means less time for all the things that he loves to do, and that's unacceptable. He'll be a wingrider forever, thank you very much.
He has his fair share of brats running around at the Weyr and elsewhere, and he loves it. He may not have the time or inclination to be their main father figure (or a traditionally 'good' father figure at all), but he takes and enjoys what time he can get. He delights in being a bad influence and encouraging (mostly harmless) mischief, and boy or girl will teach them to fight and make messes and generally flout good manners, because it's fun. He'll be thrilled if they Impress and won't care what color, but be just as thrilled if they take up a Craft instead. As long as they're happy, he's happy.
His humor can range from juvenile to downright dark, and he's not the least bit concerned about offending anyone. He's also not great at "inside voice," so if you want a private conversation with him, you should go somewhere that is actually private.
Positive Trait List gregarious, loyal, works as hard as he plays Negative Trait List instigator, unambitious, no sense of moderation
History: Born third in a family of nine children to a baker and a former mercenary, from a minor Hold as far north as anyone would want to make a Hold, Herg'r grew up in a raucous household with plenty of brothers and sisters to run amok with. They played, they fought, they got into all kinds of trouble, and they genuinely loved one another. His life was without any significant upsets, and he was Searched to High Reaches at the age of 14. At 18, he Impressed bronze Hyglath, and proceeded through an uneventful Weyrlinghood. He stuck around for a good seven Turns before he got restless and decided he could no longer handle the monotony of drilling for Thread when there was no Thread and left to find a more exciting life for himself. He took up mercenary work, a career he and his bronze were naturally suited for, and if Thread hadn't returned, they likely would have stuck with it for the rest of their lives.
But Thread did eventually fall, and the pair couldn't be happier. Not that people died, that was terrible, but they finally get to do what they were always meant to! They got right back to High Reaches and presented themselves for duty, and have been loving life ever since.
Other:
DRAGON Name: Hyglath Age: 16 Color: Bronze Size: 44' Physical Description: A mountainous bulk of a bronze for a mountain of a man, Hyglath is not the world's prettiest dragon, but has strength and stamina in spades. He does love his food, and tends to be a bit chunky.
Personality: This is not a pair of opposites. Hyglath is every bit as rowdy and jovial as his rider, and never would have chosen anyone he didn't share those traits with. He is a touch calmer and more level-headed, a little less prone to bounding off to adventure or trouble without a thought or care in the world, but he does still bound off. He just gives it a few moments of requisite consideration first. It may alter the plan slightly (as much as there ever is a plan), but it rarely changes his mind.
Unless given reason to think otherwise, he considers everyone to be his friend, and will bespeak anyone with little hesitation. He gets lonely very easily, and while he doesn't suffer from separation anxiety from his rider, he wants someone's company all the time. Human, dragon, even wher if that's all he can get, he needs someone nearby to keep him from getting mopey. And he does get mopey! For all his size and noise, Hyglath is a terribly sensitive dragon, and takes slights very personally. It's okay if he knows it's in good fun, affectionate teasing or a rousing playfight between friends, but if it's real? He's genuinely hurt. And if it comes at the hands of someone he was close to? He's crushed. He needs Herg'r to soothe these upsets and remind him that he's loved, and to distract him with some grand fun. He will also turn to food and Flights to get him through such rough patches.
He wants to be loved every bit as much as he wants to have fun, and puts his hearts and soul into every friendship, every relationship, every Flight. He's not eloquent enough for poetry, but he hopes that his devotion shows through in his determination and drive. And if it's a competitor he impresses instead of the lady, that's perfectly fine by him.
Name: Akaris Age: 20 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: Pansexual/Heteroromantic Craft: Brothel-worker Rank: Candidate Location: Western Weyr Physical Description: A touch on the tall side for a woman at 5'9", with dark skin, a slender waist, and ample curves, Akaris is a strikingly beautiful young woman well-suited to her profession. She's loathe to dress anything but prettily, but even when she has to dress for functionality rather than looks, she makes sure it's still well-cut and flattering. You never know when you might need to impress someone, after all.
Personality: Akaris is full of notions, but not a lot of sense. She thinks knows what she wants - or, more accurately, what she would like to have - but is rarely sure how to get it...or if she is, isn't keen on the work or effort involved. She'll daydream her day away with all the what-ifs and enchanting possibilities for who she could be or what she could do, but falls short when actually presented with the opportunity to make any of it happen. Because while she thinks she knows what she wants, what she wants can change at a moment's notice, what new notion strikes her and is suddenly better than the last; part of this is an inability to settle on just one thing out of so many, and partly a fear of commitment. If she chases one dream exclusively, she'll have to let go of all the other possibilities...and she'll have to actually apply herself to something fully and put in all the requisite work. Despite her reluctance to make impactful decisions, she's not without confidence in herself; she fully believes she could do any of things she wants to, it's just a matter of settling for one. She's not even entirely certain she wants to Impress a dragon, only that she wants to be a candidate and stay at Western forever.
While selective about the people she befriends in the first place (she prefers individuals who will accept her exactly as she is and won't push at or challenge her to work on any of her flaws), she does stand by anyone she becomes close to. With people she knows and likes, or wants to be liked by, Akaris is sweet as pie. Be that as it may, she's still not the type to go above and beyond and do absolutely anything for her friends without question; she's unlikely to take anyone's chores or suffer through physical hardship for someone, unless she thinks she'll be getting something worthwhile in exchange, or they're one of the handful of people she really, truly loves. But if someone needs her assistance in a non-physical way, from advice to intervention in a relationship (good or bad), she's there all the way. She'll use rumor to her advantage, whether she's aiming for a negative or positive outcome, so if anyone crosses her or someone she cares about, they'll soon find themselves the center of some vicious but believable gossip.
Akaris tends to take the easiest route available to her at any given time, which for her generally means relying on good looks and practiced charm (often batting her eyes and playing up the pretty-but-helpless routine). If it doesn't work, she doesn't get flustered (that would be unattractive), but falls back on whatever the next best option seems to be. She can be selfish, though it's not necessarily intentional; she just doesn't always remember to consider the consequences or impact of her requests or actions (or lack of action). It simply doesn't occur to her that she could be inconveniencing others, but if it's brought to her attention and she is made to understand, she will be genuinely regretful. She has learned her leason, and as long as she understands where she went wrong, what was wrong about it and why, she will not repeat the mistake. She is also now much more likely to think through words and actions that could harm others (especially if those others are baby dragons), rather than acting out impulsively, but the everyday selfishness remains. Regimen and discipline are unfamiliar to her, and though she sorely needs both, she resents it when they're applied too directly. She has come around to undertaking hard work and applying herself to her chores and lessons, because she wants desperately to make her new family proud.
Her relationship with A'ral and R'mor - and Zinath and Junenth - is the totally unexpected yet welcome end result of the Worst Day Ever at the Touching for Vimiath's clutch. It's a day she tries to avoid the topic of, and will shut down talk of with anyone but a select few people, as it was both traumatizing and humiliating, and she is ashamed of what she did (but, again, good luck getting her to admit it unless you're special). She still tends toward dragon-shy, and is hesitant and uneasy around any she doesn't know well; quick movements, or loud or aggressive vocalizations, are likely to spook her, and unbonded hatchlings are straight-up terrifying.
Though she's grown significantly, Akaris retains a certain immaturity. She's clingy when she's afraid, doesn't take criticism or discipline well unless it's phrased gently (otherwise she will resent it and pout), and is no less vain than she was to start. She is quite convinced she's special, although she doesn't find it necessary to say so: did you see that she got to sit on Vimiath at the Hatching? Or the hat that A'ral gave her and gave her permission to wear for the beach clutch so she wouldn't get too much sun? Or that she gets to cuddle the Weyrleader's dragon? Yeah, she's special, and she will sharding own the special attention that some candidates might find mortifying, and you can bet she will keep right on holding hands with her dads during Hatchings if a certain very special young man isn't there. Got a problem with that? You're just jealous.
Having grown up in Bitra, she finds most of its entertainments range from boring to a waste of money and time. Cards are nothing but a way to pass the time, wherfights are terribly gauche, and alcohol is only appealing when it's fine enough to qualify as a luxury item. As far as a way to keep herself amused, she prefers reading and dramas...and gossip. She has a passing knowledge of self-defense, by necessity, and can cook a little, but overall is short on useful life skills. She is, albeit unconsciously (she is not very self-aware), more inclined to male friends than female, as other females register as competition to some degree, due to her growing up in a brothel.
Positive Trait List imaginative, charming, confident Negative Trait List indecisive, vain, immature
History: Akaris is a Bitra girl born and raised, the daughter of the madame of a brothel and one of her many clients. Lucky for Akaris, it was one of the higher-end brothels in the Hold, and her mother was well-off and well-respected, so keeping and taking care of her child was no difficulty or hardship. It was hardly a conventional upbringing, but the girl knew nothing different, and if anything enjoyed the large extended family of sorts, between the workers and their children. Her mother saw to it that she was literate and capable with numbers, and would have sent her to Crafthall if she wanted, but Akaris was perfectly happy to stay and, once she was of age, work in the brothel, which she found neither strange nor awkward. It was simply what she'd grown up with, and anticipated that she'd likely take over one day. Or maybe she could get a wealthy client to fall for her, or be swept off her feet by a charming rogue and carried off to paradise or adventure...
A few turns after she started working there, the brothel merged with another high-end entertainment house, bringing in more and better business. A couple of turns later, while on a visit to Black Sands, she was Searched by rider from Western. So of course she went! What dragon with good taste wouldn't want her? A gold would suit her best, of course, but a pretty little green or blue or tiny adorable white would do. The idea of Weyr life, however, was prettier than the reality, and after two weeks of harder work than she'd ever endured in her 20 turns, she was done. When a flit arrived with a letter from home, she sent it back with a plea to return, and a few days later, the rider employed by the entertainment house arrived to pick her up. But she wasn't quite done packing, or saying goodbye - she hadn't even made her intention to depart official - and then Vimiath's Flight happened. Suddenly, with a clutch imminent, she was having second thoughts (again), and changed her mind (again). Fi'o threatened that she wouldn't come back for her a second time, and though Akaris wavered, she ultimately stayed. If she didn't Impress, she thought she might get a job over in Rivercrest, or go to Courtesan Hall, or maybe just find an important rider to adorn the arm of, or this or that other thing.
But then the Touching happened, she ruined it and very nearly got chomped, and if she'd been allowed to, would have run away with her tail between her legs. That was not an option, however, and she had to stay for the Hatching...and shape up in the meantime, and work to deal with her brand new fear of dragons. She fully intended to get out as fast possible afterward, but somewhere in the midst of all that, she found that she had become very attached to the very people she had at first been certain were going to kick her out of the Weyr. She's ended up as part of a little family, and as a result she is finally decisive about one thing in her life: she never, ever wants to leave Western.

Leyton, finished.
Name: Leyton Age: 29 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: anyone pretty enough. Weyr: Nabol Rider Rank: Ha. Very funny. Previous Rank/Craft: how cute that you think he's ever worked for a living. Physical Description: His medium-length hair should be dark brown, but is almost always dyed some wild color.
Personality: Leyton is a deliberately unhurried person. He is perfectly capable of going at a normal or even fast pace (and still getting things done just as well), he just chooses not to. He likes to make people wait, because he enjoys that fact that it will inconvenience and/or irritate them. (And, just for variety, he may occasionally be early, or go too quickly, but always with being an annoyance in mind.) Going at his own pace, forcing someone to wait for him to arrive, do whatever it is he's doing, or tell them whatever it is he's there to tell them, is also its own form of control, and he loves being in control almost as much as he loves getting under people's skin. Why is his hair such a ridiculous color? Because someone, somewhere, finds it to be an offense to good taste.
He is that smug a*****e who is so poised and charming that he doesn't necessarily read as "a*****e," and those who do find him to be so will find that most others don't see it. Surely not Leyton! He's a little lazy and sometimes irresponsible with money, a bit of a rake if you really want to fault him with something, but a fine fellow to be around!
Leyton often does things just because he can, and will metaphorically (and sometimes literally) pull at threads and kick at supports just to see what happens. Faranth help you if you're around when he's bored, because you may well find yourself an unwitting source of entertainment. Even something so small as "accidentally" bumping into a servant who's pouring wine and causing them to spill it on someone is terribly amusing. He'll be perfectly apologetic, of course, so sorry, he didn't mean to, but inside he'll be laughing at the mess that ensues. He is very good at "accidents" of a less benign nature, as well, and just as good at not being tied to them. Why, he was on a different continent entirely, at the most delightful party, when that man fell down the stairs.
Much as he enjoys watching people squirm, he takes no pleasure in inflicting physical harm - please, he's not a barbarian - but he will do it without hesitation or regret, if called upon to do so (or finds it necessary for his own reasons). Leyton is never seen to be annoyed or angry; he's the one who gets under other people's kin, not the other way around! Should he ever take against anyone for any reason, they won't know until it's too late, if they ever know at all.
While he likes to be in control in a petty sense, pulling little strings here and there, influencing situations and playing with people, he has no desire to actually be in charge in any meaningful way. He enjoys the freedom of being able to do more or less what he wants, when he wants to do it, or at least how he wants to do it, and the ties and responsibilities of rank or leadership would hinder that freedom far too much for his taste. As long as he is entertained, and is able to sufficiently support himself and his dragon (which is no small task, as they both have expensive taste), he's quite content. Nothing about being a b*****d child bothers him, nor does the fact that he is technically a minion. He's a minion with a fine place to live, the potential and means to acquire most things he should decide he wants, and no shortage of ways to occupy himself. He loves parties, gambling, wine, food, women, men...vice is fabulous.
Positive Trait List deliberate, clever, charming Negative Trait List self-indulgent, easily bored, plays games
History: Born to one of Lord Gansley's mistresses, Leyton will never be the heir to anything, but even being a b*****d son comes with its benefits. He is handsome, and charming, and clever enough to be useful, and his range of potential uses grew nicely when he (however unplanned it was) Impressed a dragon. As long as he stays useful - and he does - he finds himself acceptably provided for.
He never went to Hall or officially took up any Craft; for all anyone knows, he is exactly the hopeless-but-charming layabout and partier he seems to be. He did, however, receive a good education and even some Courtesan training, from a no-longer-affiliated but very skilled source no one needs to know anything more about. What he really is is an observer, occasionally a messenger and enforcer (if he brings you a package, you...may not want it), and whatever else he needs to be to ensure that he stays useful, and therefore employed and with the means to keep himself entertained and his dragon happy.
Other: at last!!
DRAGON Name: Skolth Age: 8 (3566.06.20 Nimonth x Ravioth) Color: Blue Size: 25" Physical Description: On the small side, lithe and wiry and very elegant. Personality: Skolth is a blue of the most discerning tastes. As the finest dragon to ever grace Pern, it is his inarguable right to have the best of the best. When he chose his rider, the first requirement was that he be attractive, a true physical specimen: not too short, not too tall, not too thin, not too fat, with good structure and proportions...and do put away those bulging muscles, ugh. How inelegant. No blemishes, no scars, and not a child, blech. He is not here to be your minder. He had no shortage of comments for the offerings on hand that day even without touching their minds, which he did as though he were being made to handle something foul. There were a bare few who, with a bit of physical work, would have been suitable for him to be seen with, but when it came to character, oh, the pickings got even slimmer! He needed someone with taste and charm, intelligence and means! Just when he was beginning to think himself too good for this world and was almost ready to deny it his presence, he felt his Leyton looking on, and thus Pern was spared the untimely loss of its best son.
Skolth wants and will have the best of everything. He refuses to stoop to eating herdbeasts, insisting that he would rather starve to death. Caprines are acceptable, if they're not too old and have been freshly cleaned (he does not care to taste dirt on his food), and if there aren't any available, they will just have to go where some are. His very favorite food, and a treat he gets only once a turn in celebration of his hatching day, is runner. And it must be a fine one, of good breeding! Nothing less will do.
He will accept only gear made by the most expert craftsmen, in the highest quality materials and with colors and embellishments that become him. He will accessorize in silver, as he considers it far more elegant and a better complement to his hue than gaudy, ostentatious gold. He loves pretty, shiny things, yes, but they must be in good taste! If it is lovely but not something to be worn, he would still like to have it, so that he might look upon it when the mood strikes him. His surroundings, too, should be beautiful, whether that beauty is natural or crafted, and he does not take kindly to anyone or anything that spoils his view.
He dislikes the presence of any individual, be they human or dragon, who is not pretty enough, and will not hesitate to dismiss anyone who is not up to his standards. Get out of his sight before you make him wretch. He is, consequently, not overly fond of whers, though some of the better-bred beauty type are...tolerable. If he is in a generous mood.
Skolth does not chase Rising dragons, as that is beneath him. What makes you think he should vie for the attention of another creature, when it is meant to be the other way around? He does, however, enjoy the company of any dragons who are good-looking enough, and will permit their closeness and enjoy the sight of them for awhile. If they are especially lovely, and flatter him just so, he may make himself available should they want nothing less than the best when they fly (which they should, of course, but he is not always in so charitable a mood).
Name: Rykin Age: 22 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Flexible Craft: Woodcrafter Rank: Journeyman Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: Rykin is the odd one out among his brothers: at 6'3", he's taller than any of the rest by several inches, and has a more slender build. He has the same black hair, but green eyes where they have brown.
Personality: Rykin is a very subdued individual, to a degree that he can give the mistaken impression that he's indifferent or lazy, but that's not the case at all. He does care, and very much so, about everything, and especially about the feelings and opinions of others. He internalizes incredibly well...a little too well, maybe, after years of doing his best not to be as sensitive as he really is - doing his best not to be himself, since that was someone who didn't fit in at all where he grew up. While he's had several turns to start leaving that behind, he still defaults to pretending not to be hurt, whether the harm done was physical or emotional, or intentional or not. Outwardly, he brushes off any offense to the best of his ability, and may even have something scathing to say about or retaliate against intentional slights, but will save it to be dwelled on later.
Left to himself and his thoughts, he can tend toward morose, and often has a grim or self-deprecating edge to his humor, but in good company brightens considerably. He loves deeply, is unendingly loyal, and would do anything for the people he's trusted enough to let in - and it does take him time to trust, after having to keep secrets about himself in his youth. He's very tactile with friends and lovers alike, and can edge into clingy territory; he lost most of his blood family when they disowned him, and even before that was out of place and often lonely, so consequently he is desperate to hold on to what new connections he makes. He tries not to let himself expect love, but he wants it, so very much.
He is a diligent, detail-oriented worker, but not a fast one. He takes his time to make sure that everything is done exactly how it was meant to be, and if there is an artistic or design element, looks just how he envisioned it. This, unfortunately, can lead to a lot of do-overs that slow him down, but he is a patient young man who rarely gets frustrated...although someone else may well get frustrated with him for slowing progress or being late to finish. That, much moreso than having to restart a task, will be what distresses him.
Positive Trait List diligent, sensitive, loyal Negative Trait List unhurried, slow to trust, internalizes/downplays negative emotions
History: The youngest of five brothers, with one sister several years behind him, Rykin was far enough along in the string of children that he never merited much fuss or oversight. His father, Drykstan, was a Tanner, and his mother Malbrina was simply Drykstan's wife. She arrived by arrangement from another cothold at 15, and had her first strapping boy for him within the year. Both were perfectly content with the situation, and very quickly grew fond of each other...and had another boy, and another, and another, and another. The first became a Tanner like his father; the second became a Smith, the third and fourth added more Tanners to the family, which was just as well, as the first was Searched and became a dragonrider. When he was 5, his mother finally had the daughter she'd been wanting for well over a decade, and Rykin merited even less attention from his mother than before.
As he grew, Rykin learned the family craft from his father, primarily to fill his time and do something productive until he was old enough to decide if it was indeed the craft for him, or if he preferred another. The cothold certainly didn't need yet another Tanner, although he did have a good eye for detail and finer work. In his youth, he was often quietly shadowed by his little sister, Nadry, and the two became close, as the babies and odd-ones-out of the family. Where he got little attention from their mother, she got little from their father, as she was given no craft training. But she was curious, and when no one was looking, Rykin would sometimes share with her what he was learning.
Ultimately, however, Tannercraft held little appeal for him, and in his early teens he decided that Woodcrafting would be his path. It was different, but not so different as to raise eyebrows, but still with a strong element of design (and a lot less smell). Though he hoped to eventually go to Hall, to start he had to apprentice to a crafter the next cothold over, and for the next two turns saw much less of his family. He mainly caught up with them at Gathers, although that would turn out to not be such a great thing after all. At 16, he was caught kissing a Farmer's son, and suffice to say that that did not go over well with either conservative family. Rykin was disowned by his parents and most of his brothers, but fortunately for him, his oldest brother had been in a Weyr just long enough to have learned to disagree with at least some of his family's views. M'yk and his brown caught up with him and gave him a ride to Lemos, where he could continue his studies properly and leave the past behind him.
He thrived at Hall, walked the tables at 20, and at some point during that time, acquired a flit, allowing him to keep in contact with M'yk as well as his sister - who, not long after he became a Journeyman, was Searched to High Reaches. After she Impressed a brown, she became as much an exile from the family as Rykin. This has strained his previously good relationship with M'yk, since their older brother is as displeased with the turn of events as the rest of the family.
Recently, Rykin has been searched to Western Weyr. He knows he should be careful about expecting anything of it, but with two brownrider siblings, he can't help but think that he might have a chance.
Adoptable Ad Candidate Rykin: 22 turns old. Journeyman Woodcrafter, freshly searched to Western Weyr. Sibling to brownriders M'yk and Nadry of High Reaches Weyr, but was disowned by the rest of their highly conservative, cotholder family as a teenager.

Name: Yllaei Age: 27 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: up to player, at least sometimes into guys Craft: Baking Rank: Journeyman Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: Standing at all of 5'4", Yllaei is a soft, full-figured woman who very much enjoys her craft. She keeps her light brown hair long, though more often than not it's tied out of the way.
Personality: Oh, honey, you look famished! When was the last time you ate? You really ought to have something before you waste away - here, Yllaei has just the thing! Yllaei thrives on making others happy, and for her that often translates to feeding them. Maybe it won't actually solve their problems or heartaches, but if they feel a little better, even just for awhile, that still means something, doesn't it? Who can be sad when there are tiny cakes, or fresh cookies, or a nice bubblypie to be had?
Yllaei is a nurturer at heart, and wants to take care of everyone around her, whether they think they need it or not. Much like a well-meaning auntie, she can be overbearing in her affection and concern, and has trouble understanding that not everyone needs to be tended to. She'll brush aside any polite insistence that her help isn't wanted, and continue right on cheerfully nosing in unless it's stated very clearly and firmly that she needs to mind her own business. At that point, depending on the attitude and wording, her reaction can range from disappointed acceptance to a quiet huff to - if rudeness or foul language was involved - stern words.
Yllaei was raised proper, and has little tolerance for discourtesy, profanity, or bad behavior. Some things are simply not to be said or done! Or at the very least, they should be kept in private. Holdborn, and always mature for her age besides, she can be a bit old-fashioned in some of her behaviors; she may have left behind some of the traditional viewpoints they spring from, but old habits die hard, and she's still easy to peg as a Holder girl by the way she speaks and carries herself.
She is bossy, albeit it in a very maternal way. It's for your own good, you see, and she's generally very pleasant about it. There are lots of pleases and thank yous and smiles, but don't be deceived - she is telling, not asking, she's just very practiced at seeming nice about it. Yllaei does believe that she knows best, and it would be to everyone's benefit if they listened to her, but she also knows that not everyone responds well to a direct approach, and can be more subtle when she needs to be. If she has to plant ideas or make arrangements, she will, and is rather good at it - lucky for everyone she has their best interests at heart!
Positive Trait List nurturing, cheerful, responsible Negative Trait List bossy, meddlesome, overbearing
History: Born in a Minor Hold outside of Tillek, Yllaei is the oldest child of a pair of Bakers, and thought to follow in their footsteps, but was Searched at 15. She would likely have been perfectly happy with a life of baking, since she always enjoyed and had a talent for it, but who was she to turn away a Search dragon? If she didn't Impress, she could always go home, anyway...or so she told herself, but she never actually did. Never Impressed, but never went home, either.
She aged out, but had grown accustomed to Weyr life, loved the hustle and bustle and all the people, so she chose to stay and make herself useful. She might not have a dragon, but if she can take care of the dragonriders, even in her own small way, she can be content with that.
(Leaving room for fleshing-out by adopter.)
Other: Has at some point been involved with a brownrider, M'yk. Extent and history relationship is up for plotting - brief, longer-term, on-again/off-again, whatever player's preference is. They do not need to be a current or future romance, so please don't worry that I have expectations for that! There's just a history there, is all.
Adoptable Ad Journeyman Yllaei: 27 turns old, Baker. Searched from near Tillek as a teenager, aged out of Candidacy but remained at High Reaches to work in the Kitchens as a way of helping where she can.

Brown Hyoscyath Written by Meepfur Colored by ???
Origin of Name:Hyoscyamus niger, commonly known as black henbane or stinking nightshade, is a poisonous plant in the family Solanaceae. The origins of the word henbane are unclear, but "hen" most likely alludes to death. Other etymologies of the word associate it with the Indo-European stem *bhelena whose hypothetical meaning is "crazy plant" and with the Proto-Germanic element bil meaning "vision, hallucination; magical power, miraculous ability." Henbane was historically used in combination with other plants as an anaesthetic potion, as well as for its pyschoactive properties. The plant, recorded as Herba Apollinaris, was used to yield oracles by the priestesses of Apollo.
Inspiration: Divination, an elective subject taught in the series by Sybill Trelawney, and described by Minerva McGonagall as "one of the most imprecise branches of magic." Witches and wizards who are born with the gift of prophecy are rare; others can learn divination methods and insight from them, with varying degrees of success. Most regard the practice with skepticism, although examples of true prophecies and accurate predictions do exist in series canon.
Personality: Hyoscyath is, in their very esteemed and privately-held opinion, a dragon unlike any other who has ever been shelled. There is not a moment where they are not poised, when they are not unaware that there are eyes upon them: because they are always eyes upon them, or should be! While Hyoscyath will play at humility, will hide their gaze behind a coy flutter of their wing, they love attention. They want to be looked at, listened to, talked about, and thought about, whether in a positive or negative way, although they most prefer a middle ground of vexation. They delight in being a puzzle, in shrouding themselves in an air of mystery, which comes to them as easily as breathing. The less anyone knows about them, the more they will wonder, and so Hyoscyath will stay in their thoughts.
Hyoscyath is a difficult dragon for anyone, Hyoscyath included, to know. They are what they need or want to be at any given moment, whatever they feel, and if the mood strikes them, whatever they think someone else wants or needs them to be. They love to be a listening ear, to be confided in and consulted, looked to for advice. This advice, more often than not, will be open to interpretation, with a vague or cryptic quality. This is both because they enjoy being mysterious, and because by giving an obscure answer that leaves multiple meanings open, it could be interpreted as correct regardless of the details of the outcome. They rarely give the plainly-spoken truth, exactly as it is; they prefer to bend it, and have no compunctions about lying outright. Lies, after all, are so much prettier, and often what people truly want to hear.
This brown, for all of their love of attention, is soft-spoken and demure, never one to grandstand or shove another aside, and rarely raises their voice. They are naturally captivating, and will use body language, turn of phrase, and the quiet intensity of their presence to catch and keep the attention that they desire. When it comes to romantic attention, anyone interested will find them slippery indeed, as they will lead all potential lovers on a long and winding chase...only to slip through their claws like so much smoke soon after being caught. Though they may fly after a rising female, they will almost never put much genuine effort into winning, unless on a fanciful whim or if they believe there is something to be gained. They would much rather be chased themselves, and have no qualms about distracting and poaching another's suitors of any color. It is unlikely that they will ever be an earnest suitor themselves in any regard, in the sky or out of it; it is very possible that no being on Pern other than their rider will ever be capable of holding their hearts. If ever Hyoscyath were to find their feelings for another to be more than fleeting, no one would be more surprised than they.
They have a deep-seated disdain for following orders, not out of any innate drive to rebel, but because they, and no one else, should be the master of their own fate. They want to make their own choices, regardless of the outcome, and unless their rider can sway them, will listen to heart and instinct over logic. If this leads them to a poor outcome, they will accept it and move on, rather than denying it, dwelling on it, or blaming it on someone else. If nothing else, at least their choice was their own.
Positive Traits: composed, independent, silver-tongued Negative Traits: evasive, vain, mercurial
Adult Size: 31' Physical Attributes: Delicate and fine-featured, this brown is beautiful, with a slender build and long, graceful lines. They're quite small for their color, but in their opinion, that only makes them that much more distinctive.
Additional Notes: Their hide may be brown, but Hyoscyath doesn't always feel that that fits them in every respect. They are genderfluid, and will accept any pronouns without fuss, unless they suspect that someone is being deliberately rude or disrespectful. They will enjoy accessorizing in any shade that suits them, but have a particular fondness for golds, purples, and blues. They are fascinated by the movement of water, clouds, smoke, and shadows, and enraptured by storms.
Why Me? Hyoscyath never once paid any of the boys a second thought: they wanted a girl, knowing full well that it would set tongues wagging. Maybe if none of those had met their other needs, they might have considered expanding their options, but fortunately for them, Nisadee was the whole package. Of utmost importance is her experience with secrets - real, often dark, ones - and ability to keep her mouth shut. She has always craved but been denied attention, but isn't so desperate as to blabber or go to silly extremes for it; Hyoscyath can show her their ways, and together they can draw eyes and daydreams, and they know that she will never share their methods and secrets. Nisadee has never quite fit in with her peers - so rarely has she had any at all! - and they will encourage her to stand apart and embrace it, in the same way that they do.
This brown likes to let their hearts and instinct guide them, but maybe Nisadee will be able to temper some of that impulsiveness with a bit of logic where necessary, at least enough to keep them from haring off into ruin based on a whim of feeling.

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...
Name: Nisadee Age: 17 (3558.01.24) Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: ??? Weyr: Western Weyr ---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y Rider Rank: Weyrling Previous Rank/Craft: /shrug (spent some time in Healer Hall) Physical Description: Pale-skinned, blonde-haired, and blue-eyed, Nisadee is a cold beauty. Little about her could be described as warm or soft. She is tall and slender at 5'9", and has particularly long, thin fingers.
Personality: Some things simply aren't meant to be said. There are some secrets that should never be revealed, not to anyone or for anything, and Nisadee knows that well. It was among her earliest lessons learned, and emphasized all her life, so it's deeply ingrained in her. Her mother is a skilled thief, her aunt the same and so much more, and her father an apothecary who caters to a less than scrupulous clientele. She might not be privy to their most compromising secrets, but she's seen enough - and been involved in enough - to be a risk or a weak point, if it suited her to be. But, for all her family's faults and failings, she is loyal to her own blood, and so she reveals nothing. If the secret is to do with someone she's not so loyal to? She'll keep until such time as it suits her to, though if she does decide it's to her advantage to make it known, she'll take care to ensure that she can't be traced as the source of the leak. That will be a rare occurence, however, as the reward would have to outweigh just how much she loves secrets.
She's something of a hoarder of knowledge, especially anything she's not supposed to know, or isn't proper or 'right' to be interested in. Anything anyone else shuns or dismisses, no matter how dark or how wildly improbable in, she wants to know more about. For all her logic and rational thought processes, Nisadee loves fantastical notions - silly tales, superstition, fate, ghosts...even if she knows something probably isn't true, she would dearly love for it to be. It makes the world that much more interesting, and there is, perhaps, just a touch of romanticism in her somewhere.
Her actions are usually carefully thought-out, as she is well aware of consequence and the importance of appearances, although she's not slow or indecisive about it. Just careful. Always careful. Interactions with her peers in particular are approached warily, as she has little experience with others in her own age group or below. She is polite, but struggles with genuine warmth and friendliness. She would like to have friends, as she quietly yearns for the attention and affection that have thus far escaped her in life, but she struggles with how to go about making any. Letting her guard down and allowing someone to see who she really is is quite the intimidating prospect.
Going into Candidacy, the most important person in Nisadee's life was Nisadee. She'd never been anyone else's priority, so why not be her own? (Of course, Anhuith now supercedes everyone and everything else.) If she wants anything out of life, she just has to do it herself, and she expects others to do the same for themselves. If she can see the advantage in helping someone new to her, or knows that she has to, she will do it, but she will almost always have a reason beyond selflessness, even if that reason is just to avoid suspicion or a talking-to. She is much readier to help those she feels obligation or loyalty to, and for those few friends she does manage to form, she'll be there for in a heartbeat.
Positive Trait List careful, logical, loyal Negative Trait List guarded, preoccupied with her own matters, struggles to form genuine bonds
History: The product of flightlust between two unaffiliated riders, Nisadee has spent much of her life wondering why her mother didn't just hop between on her blue to save herself the nuisance that Nisadee was destined to be. Whatever the reason Anadee chose to carry her to term, the woman came to regret it fairly quickly. Taking care of a child was all-day, all-night work, which put a real cramp in everything she liked to do...especially her chosen career of highwayman, an endeavour she shared with her sister and several others. Within a couple of turns, Anadee couldn't take it any longer, and deposited the child in Bitra with her father.
Niserion was considerably less than thrilled. Intrigued, yes, and had his daughter been given to him at an age with any independence or autonomy, he might have been pleased. But a toddler? Messy, needy, babbling, underfoot, everything the studious apothecary with a dangerous side business neither wanted nor needed. To say nothing of his green, who hated sharing his attention. Niserion's sense of responsibility to his own blood helped him to hold out for three whole turns before enough was enough before the girl was shuffled back to her mother.
Now 5, Nisadee could at least be moderately useful; she couldn't rob traders with the band, but she made a fantastically pathetic street urchin, and was taught to beg, steal, and otherwise con people out of their hard-earned marks. For once in her life, she actually had a reason to be, something to do that made her useful to one of the people she most wanted to be loved by - or even just liked - and hung on every tiny scrap of attention and praise a job well done might earn her. More often than not, it came from her aunt, Anali, but every once in a great while, her mother did seem pleased with her, or at least not so terribly annoyed by her existence.
By 12, however, it was getting harder to sell targets on pitying a small, abandoned orphan, when she was growing into preteen territory, and again found herself...less useful to her mother. Clinging to memories of and fascination with her father, she asked to go back to him - a surprise he certainly wasn't expecting to receive again, but at least this time she was more capable of thinking for herself and acting independently. Really, she didn't need much care at all, beyond feeding and clothing.
Niserion set to teaching her about his craft, darker side included, but it wasn't long before Achlyth had once again had enough of this ungrateful little whelp who was stealing her rider's time and attention. As she was now old enough to apprentice, Niserion offered to send her to any Hall she liked, expecting her, with her natural curiosities and aptitude, to choose Healer Hall. She did, as it made the most sense, but within a few more turns, she was bored. Unused to being with anyone around her own age, she didn't mesh well with the other apprentices, and it was all just so terribly tame! She'd spent her life in dark, dangerous places, and the light made her restless.
Nisadee sent a letter to her aunt - after her mother failed to respond - left her apprenticeship, and returned to Bitra, where she entered brothel work. Perhaps it was squandering her "potential," but it was different, alluring, even a bit glamorous at the high end, which she very much intended to be.
...until almost a turn later, when she was Searched. The dragons in her life had all been aloof at the very best, never friends or companions, but maybe if she had her own, it would be different. Maybe someone, finally, would want and understand her. Though thus far, dragons have mainly been obstacles between her and her family, the bond between rider and dragon is also the only real love she's ever been witness to, and she wanted that for herself. She didn't expect to come to be on a beach, of all things, but in hindsight, a dragon born to a then-unaffiliated mother was an amusing fit.
Other: A previously unfinished/unapproved Candidate, recycled with permission!
DRAGON Name: Anhuith Origin of Name: Named for Anhui Province, where Keemun black tea is grown. - - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y - - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y Color: Brown - - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? N (I understand I reduce my chance with this, and that is a-okay!) Inspiration: Keemun (qímén hóngchá; literally: 'Qimen red tea') is a famous Chinese black tea. First produced in late 19th century, it quickly became popular in the West and is still used for a number of classic blends. It is a light tea with characteristic stone fruit and slightly smoky notes in the aroma and a gentle, malty, non-astringent taste reminiscent of unsweetened cocoa. Top varieties have orchid-like fragrance and additional floral notes in the flavor.
Keemun is produced exclusively in the Qimen County in the south of Anhui province. The name of the tea is an older Western spelling of the name of the nearby town, Qimen (pronounced "Chee-men"). The tea-growing region lies between the Yellow Mountains and the Yangtze River. The cultivar used for Keemun is the same as that used in production of Huangshan Maofeng. While the latter is an old, well-known variety of green tea, Keemun was first produced in 1875 using techniques adapted from Fujian province farmers.
Many varieties of Keemun exist, with different production techniques used for each. Nevertheless, any Keemun undergoes particularly slow withering and oxidation processes, yielding more nuanced aroma and flavor. Some of Keemun's characteristic floral notes can be attributed to a higher proportion of geraniol, compared to other black teas.
Keemun is considered ideal for use in reading tea leaves.

If ever Anhuith were to find their feelings for another to be more than fleeting, no one would be more surprised than they.
Size: 31' Physical Attributes: Delicate and fine-featured, this brown is beautiful, with a slender build and long, graceful lines. They're quite small for their color, but in their opinion, that only makes them that much more distinctive. Additional Notes: Their hide may be brown, but Anhuith doesn't always feel that that fits them in every respect. They are genderfluid, and will accept any pronouns without fuss, unless they suspect that someone is being deliberately rude or disrespectful. They will enjoy accessorizing in any shade that suits them, but have a particular fondness for golds, purples, and blues.
Why Me: Anhuith never once paid anyone but Nisadee a second thought: of utmost importance is her experience with secrets - real, often dark, ones - and ability to keep her mouth shut. She has always craved but been denied attention, but isn't so desperate as to blabber or go to silly extremes for it; Anhuith can show her their ways, and together they can draw eyes and daydreams, and they know that she will never share their methods and secrets.
- - - - What were they like in weyrling training? Anhuith, particularly early on in their training, tended to be reluctant to do as they were told simply on principle, and required a strong hand from Nisadee to settle and focus on tasks and lessons (and not attempt to distract their classmates). Over time, this did become less like pulling teeth, and Anhuith came to require fewer expanations and less wheedling to get them on board; if Theirs wants it done, so be it. Usually.
How did they get along with their other weyrlings? They are both inclined to keep emotional distance between themselves and others, and this is most evident from Nisadee. Though not unfriendly or difficult to work with, she would have taken time and likely repeated overtures on someone's part to form any friendships. She would have subtly watched everyone to get a feel for them and pick out who might be trustworthy, but over time, she in particular has likely developed an attachment and loyalty to the group as a whole. As for Anhuith, they get on extremely well, at least on a superficial level, catching attention in their own coy way and always happy to listen and offer advice to anyone who might ask.
How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Do they really have to? Siiiigh. This is all so very much work, when Anhuith would much rather be doing their own thing, and indeed, tempting a classmate to join them. Fortunately, Nisadee is much more inclined to stay on track - especially since their training is meant, among other things, to keep them and those around them alive - and was always there to rein in her brown. She was a good student, while Anhuith took work to get on the same page.
How did they do during Threadfall? With Nisadee on top of the preparations, they came out fairly well overall, just a pulled muscle and some light 'scoring, though a brief slip in Anhuith's attention may have crisped a clutchmate.
How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Nisadee is largely indifferent. She will acknowledge that it's unfortunate, but it happened and that's that, they all have to live with it (or...not, depending on how their luck goes). Anhuith, on the other hand, is irritated, as it necessitates all this structure and order-following; if they'd been hatched sooner, you can sharding well bet they'd be out seeing the world, going wherever the wind blows. Alas, Anhuith is stuck, though they wouldn't go so far as to call themselves wasted on Threadfighting - they do look awfully good doing it.
I Want Their Love To Go Down In History! Let's RP This Affair Out!
Character's Avatar and/or Art Character's Name: Ellifrin Approved Character Sheet:xXx Age: 28 Orientation: Heterosexual Rank & Craft Wingrider Current Location: High Reaches
Questions Asked by E'ros You can answer these OOCly. Just note that it's an OOC response specific to what you're looking for plot/story wise!
(These are all OOC responses for now, I may go back later and give actual Ellifrin answers if I can get her to cough them up.) What types of genders and non-genders are you interested in? Male
Are you looking for romance, something physical, or both? Neither? Both! Are you open to asexual or non-physical relationships? ...possibly? She needs a lot of attention and affection, but it doesn't necessarily need to be sexual. Are you open to long-distance relationships? It would be difficult for her, since as mentioned, she needs a lot of affection and attention. It could be an interesting point of development, though! And/or could just go south. Who knows? Do you want something long-term or more of a short-term fling or even a one-night-stand, or some of each? Long-term! But she's definitely had some flight-times and may have an ex or two somewhere.
Are you interested in a monogomous relationship? Yes. Are you interested in a polyamorous relationship? It would be tricky with her, very possibly a bumpy road adjusting to sharing attention, but not an outright no. Are you interested in an open relationship? No.
What's the youngest you'd date? ....early 20s? What's the oldest you'd date? 60s?
What's your ideal partner(s) like? Her ideal is someone who would spoil the hell out of her, honestly. She's used to being coddled and not only loves it, but expects it. (This doesn't have to be what she gets! But it is her ideal, however unrealistic, to basically be someone's princess.)
What's your ideal date like? ???
What are your deal breakers? Bad hygiene, bad manners, obvious jerkwad (could potentially fall for a not-obvious jerkwad for a relationship that would eventually crash and burn).
How much affection do you want in a relationship? All of it. How much independence/distance do you want in a relationship? Alone time? What is that?
Anything you like in particular? Walking romance novel covers. But while that will get her attention the fastest, she will fall for sweetness and chivalry above anything else. Someone who will take care of her.
Any possible hang-ups? She might have trouble with a workaholic or a rank-climber, since that would take time and attention away from her.
OOC Information
What are you, the player, looking for for your character? Development, primarily, so I'm just as open to something that might not work out as I am to something that will, or something that could have rough patches. Or it could be immediate sweetness and love. I am open to lots of possibilities!
Are there any plots attached to this possible pair? If so, can you let us know what those plots are or what role this relationship is meant to fulfil? Not particularly! Although her dragon, Harth, is very motherly and fussy, and will be very nosy and scrutinizing. If they're a rider, their dragon would probably need to get along with Harth - bonus points if they are also available. ;D She does love big, strapping boys (especially shiny ones), but like Ellifrin, personality would ultimately trump fantasy. Harth has very probably tried to fix her up with nice boys in the past, and even chosen flight partners based on which rider she thinks would be best with Hers.
Do you plan on having the character test the waters with multiple characters or players to find a perfect fit? It is very early yet, so...possibly? I'm still feeling her out and, again, open to relationships thay don't ultimately pan out, so. It all depends?

Name: Ilzerin Age: 23 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Flexible Craft: Mercenary Rank: N/A Location: High Reaches Weyr Physical Description: A little taller than his brother at 6'5", but also leaner, Ilzerin isn't entirely without muscle or strength, but will always be slim, and more agile than anything. He has the same pale complexion and gray eyes, but finer, more delicate features, and lighter hair.
Personality: An inconvenience and a disappointment to the people in his life from day one, rather than internalize that into low self-esteem, Ilzerin has raised himself above them all. They were all just fools, not seeing his potential or his abilities simply because he didn't fit the mold of what they wanted. There's certainly nothing at all wrong with him. So what if he's pretty? That's not a bad thing - quite the opposite, in fact! There's no fault in using his looks instead of his fists like some meat-headed brute.
With no one he could fully trust or rely on, he had no choice but to be independent, and would much rather think for himself and make his own decisions than allow them to be made for him. He has a rebellious streak and a nearly knee-jerk disrespect for most authority, and may allow it to fuel poor decisions. At least they're his. He is not without all sense, however - and is in fact quite clever when it suits him - so he doesn't flout every rule just for the sake of it, particularly when the end result would be physical harm or death. Under the right circumstances, he could develop a better respect for authority, or at least a less unhealthy relationship with it, but at this time, he still has an instinct to question or act out.
Often left to his own devices, Ilzerin is resourceful, and can make do with very little, though he of course prefers not to. Perhaps partly in response to having very little early in his life, he's very self-indulgent, and will 'treat' himself without hesitation to whatever pleasure is his flavor of the day. As a result, he has trouble holding on to his marks, and has occasionally found himself skirting trouble with the wrong sorts, but luckily he's quite good at charming or bartering his way out of it. He's resilient, after getting such a rough start in life, and can weather whatever comes his way, though not necessarily without complaint. He can endure a lot, but has had rather enough of that, thank you.
He can charm his way into fair-weather friends easily enough, but resists opening up, and is quick to bristle about insults or offenses, which he has a long memory for. He would likely balk at any assertion that he might need or even want anyone, but in truth, capable as he is of being on his own, he does crave more. If someone did get through, he would be capable of deep affection, but could tend toward jealous or needy.
He has a very, very well-hidden soft spot for misfits or the downtrodden, but is unlikely to act directly or openly in aid or defense of them. Selflessness is not part of his image, and rather counterproductive to his own survival, besides. If he helps, it will be quietly and anonymously. Otherwise people might start to expect it of him, ugh.
Positive Trait List clever, resourceful, independent, resilient Negative Trait List vain, self-indulgent, resentful, temperamental
History: Born to a rather low-end brothel-worker in Nabol, Ilzerin was an unwelcome burden for his mother, who had just enough compunction not to sell or abandon him, though she regularly reminded him just how gracious that was of her. But even that only lasted so long, and once she'd well and truly tired of him, he was dumped on his mercenary father, for whom he was similarly inconvenient. Small, sickly, and the third son, Dezerin really had no use for him, and the responsibility for his care and upbringing was pushed onto Ilzerin's older half-brothers, who weren't keen on the duty, either. Any failings of his would be failings of theirs, and more than like taken out of their hides. They did do as was asked of them, but their resentment was clear, and though they never did him any real harm, they were often harsh and perhaps a bit rougher than necessary - but they were expected to turn him into a useful soldier somehow, and were still far kinder than their father. It didn't help that as he grew, he grew into fine features and a slim build, not at all suited for the work that was expected of him. Pretty was useless for a mercenary.
He became prone to acting out in an attempt to gain his father's attention, even if in a negative way, but it never seemed to work. He continued to be mostly ignored by the man. But then Dezerac was Searched, and Ilzerin was expected to shape up and pick up the slack. He did for awhile, half begrudgingly and half desperate for approval, but eventually that lackluster motivation wore off and he started to slack and act out again. His oldest brother, Mezrin, who'd always been the more tolerant of his siblings, lost more and more patience with him. Of course Dezerac had been the one Searched, he was obviously far better suited to the task of dragonriding, but it would have been better if it had been useless Ilzerin. Not that it was surprising that it wasn't.
Ilzerin had some consolation in that his brother failed to Impress, turn after turn, making him effectively just as useless. Then came the return of Thread, Mezrin died, and suddenly Ilzerin was the only son, which was not a welcome turn of events for anyone. He soon learned just how much his brothers had actually done for him; Dezerin hadn't ignored his failings and acting out, but had instead taken it out on his brothers, who'd been given responsibility for him. Rather than come to a new appreciation for them, however, he simply came to resent them for leaving and dying, respectively.
Rather than stay, as soon as the chance came, he left, hoping to disappear into the seedy recesses of Nabol, although making a living wouldn't come easy. He even tried pitfighting out of desperation, but he wasn't made for such rough, close-quarters combat, and though he had some skill at dirty fighting, he just wasn't built to take a beating (and he'd never actually liked such brutish pursuits in the first place). Ultimately, he fell into fixed fights, with a bit of whoring on the side, but with the latter more profitable, he was soon doing less and less fighting. He could do fairly well for himself, if he were better with money, but tends to spend it as he makes it.
When Searched, he accepted in small part for well-disguised spiteful reasons; he's heard by now that his brother finally Impressed, and to a bronze, but it took a move to backwards Western from the high standards of High Reaches. Ilzerin is certain he can and will do better.

Name: T'mul Age: 27 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: partially up to player, at least sometimes into women Weyr: Western Weyr Rider Rank: Wingrider Previous Rank/Craft: Farmer Physical Description: leaving up to adopter.
Personality: leaving up to adopter.
Positive Trait List leaving up to adopter. Negative Trait List leaving up to adopter.
History: Born on the Nerat peninsula, T'mul is the oldest of his parents' batch of a dozen siblings, so in addition to helping out around the house and farm, he was also very often helping out with his many brothers and sisters. Forunately, he was a natural fit for the role of big brother, and took his responsibilities seriously. His siblings always had a ready protector in Tshymul, and whatever help they needed, although he would never do too much of their work for them, knowing that would do them no favors.
When he was 23, the young man was Searched to Ista Weyr, in a scramble to find candidates for the clutch of an unaffiliated Queen. One of many plucked from their previously quiet lives, he quickly fell in with and became the unofficial older brother of a group of Holdborn candidates, several of whom went on to Impress, including to the gold of the clutch. They stayed close throughout weyrlinghood, and he even fell in love with one of his classmates, Jalle of blue Tioloth. After they graduated, the group of friends returned to Nerat, where they settled on the farm tended the goldrider's aging parents, and helped to work the land and run the farm. It was a peaceful life, and T'mul was often back and forth to visit his own family, but that life was spoiled when Thread returned. He lost three siblings and his father to the ancient enemy, and once he had done what he could at home, joined Western Weyr to fight. Jalle went with him, and not long after, the two greenriders of their group, Serese and Im'sh, did the same. Meanwhile, Sylfie lingered, and eventually went to High Reaches. Sometime in the intervening few turns, T'mul and Jalle have split.
(Leaving anything more to adopter. Only other background info is that Serese and her dragon, Talsith, died in 'Fall soon after becoming full wingriders. Jalle and Tioloth don't officially exist outside of the clutchlist at this point.)
Other: Sylfie had a huge crush on him, once upon a time. Up to adopter if he ever knew. She's left it behind, but it's a bit of trivia.
DRAGON Name: Braraith Age: 4 (3570.04.21 Ceirath x Galenth) Color: Brown Size: 33' Physical Description: A bit small for his color, squat, and rather pudgy no matter what he does or doesn't do.
Personality: Braraith is a dragon who knows exactly who and what he is, and he is not always at peace with that. He has been all too aware, from the moment that he hatched, that he is ugly; no matter how diligently they tried to school their thoughts, he knew what the candidates all really thought of him. At best, they felt sorry for him. Even his own mother, when he sought to hide himself beneath her wing, pushed him away. Perhaps it was only her way of encouraging him to find His, but he took it to heart as being shame over having clutched him. He was fortunate that his golden sister and one of his bronze brothers hatched shortly after he did, and drew the eyes of the gathered crowd away from him. Who wouldn't want to gaze upon such shining splendor?
Even Braraith watched them - or, more accurately, him. His egg had leaned against Zsaldath's, and he had come to love the bronze who was everything he was not: valiant, and charming, and handsome. But Zsaldath had eyes only for golden Hesperith, of course. It was only proper. Only fitting. Watching the bronze escort their sister over the Sands was painful, so painful that in a moment of weakness, he called out to one of the candidates is desperation. Would he please...would he please come and take his Braraith away from here? So he wouldn't have to watch any longer, or his presence spoil their moment. But if Tshymul didn't want him, he would understand. He would go away, where he would never bother anyone at all, and maybe a better dragon would want the boy.
But, by some miracle, the young man did want him, although to this day Braraith often needs reassurance that His truly is happy with him. However, due to his fear that he is not and will never be enough, the brown is actually one of the most genuine, hardest-working dragons you could ever hope to find. No task is beneath him, and he will accept any challenge set before him - oftentimes, he will even volunteer, and even for jobs most would turn up their noses at. He's also far braver than he gives himself credit for, and would put himself in danger to spare another without hesitation. He places everyone, no matter their color or status, well above himself, and expects nothing in return.
All of this makes him easy to take advantage of or bully, and so he needs a rider who can stand up for him when necessary, and see that he is taken care of, for Braraith would certainly neglect himself in favor of seeing others' needs tended to. He falls easily into infatuation with metallic hides - bronzes in particular - but knows better than to think anyone so perfect would want him. Not that he believes he's any more likely to catch any chromatics' eyes, although if he did? They would not want for a more constant, faithful companion. He is blindly loyal, and his friends, infatuations, and loves can do no wrong in his eyes.
Adoptable Ad T'mul and brown Braraith: 27. Braraith is 4 turns old. Impressed at Ista, upon graduation left the Weyr and lived unaffiliated with a small group of his classmates. Left for Western Weyr when Thread returned.

---- Nachith's Stats Blue: 40 Between 6-20: 10 Fit/Motivated: 10 Sense of humor: +5 Total=65
Name: Elibrie Age: 16 Nameday: 12.07.3559 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: None Rank: Candidate Location: High Reaches Weyr Physical Description: A fair mix of both parents, with brown eyes and rich brown hair, and a softness she has yet to grow out of (and may never). She's a pretty, wide-eyed thing, whose demeanor makes her seem rather smaller than her height of 5'5".
Personality: Raised to fill a very specific place in the world, to think and do as she's told without question, Elibrie is a follower through and through. If there is still a spark of individuality in there somewhere, it is very dim and deep down where even she can't see it. Her worth is determined entirely by her value as a marriage prospect, putting her physical appearance and future usefulness to any man who might one day want to marry her at the forefront of her priorities. As such, she is impeccable about her appearance, but takes special care not to fall into the trap of vanity: the colors of her clothing are always muted and the cuts always modest, and while her hair is long, a simple braid to keep it out of the way will suffice, no elaborate styling necessary.
Even more important than appearance, however, is usefulness, and so she has been diligent about learning the traditionally feminine tasks expected of her, learning them well, and keeping herself busy with them. She cooks and bakes - simple things, of course, not indulgent ones - and cleans and sews. With dedicated practice, she has made good progress in all these skills, and with younger siblings and cousins to help tend to, she's a good hand with children as well. If asked, however, she would profess to being no more than passable at anything, valuing humility as much as she does obedience.
Authority figures will always be heeded and obeyed; anyone older, and especially anyone male, will suffice as authority figures whether they truly outrank her or not: in Elibrie's world, men almost always come first, with some wiggle room for older women or women in roles that assign them some importance (maternal figures, a Headwoman, etc.). With such an extreme conservative upbringing, she's not used to making her own decisions, and if at all possible will follow along with someone else, or at the very least find someone to ask, rather than come to an independent decision. If it comes to it and she has to decide on her own, she will make what seems like the 'safe' decision, whatever dovetails best with her traditional values. She always has what her family, especially her grandmother, would think in mind. She honestly wouldn't be able to say what makes her happy, not when her foremost concern is the opinions of others, particularly those she sees as having authority over her.
Elibrie will always be one of the last to step over a line, having seen the consequences of being an aberration. One of her uncles was disowned and is no longer even spoken of, while her aunt died. Died! Or so she thought. The revelation that her aunt was, in fact, not killed by a dragon hatchling, has placed Elibrie in a bit of a quandary about that line of thought. It's still terribly scandalous, though! Women should really only ride golds, and here her aunt is with a brown, and two boyfriends who are also each other's boyfriends? Elibrie can't even wrap her mind around it, and isn't sure she wants to!
She has never been in charge of her own fate, but rather than chafe under the yoke of it, she has embraced it. She believes that, as long as she does as she should, good things will surely happen, and perhaps she'll be rewarded with a good husband who will provide for her. Surely he will, at the very least, be kind to her. She wouldn't presume to hope for handsome or rich, or at least would never admit to it, but maybe if she is especially good? People do get what they deserve, don't they? If she truly believes in anything, right to her core, it's that.
Being Searched does have her quite confused, admittedly. Finding out she'd been lied to has sown a tiny seed of doubt about the foundations on which she's built her life, but she also has deep doubts about accepting Candidacy. If her older sister hadn't accepted first, she would have refused and stayed home, and still wonders daily whether she made the right choice. Ultimately, she always circles around to what the Weyrs are owed for protecting Pern, and views accepting Candidacy as a duty. Still, she fears Impressing anything a girl should not, no matter how happy her aunt seems to be; she's gone all terribly backwards in the process, and as core to her identity as Elibrie's family's values are, that's a terrifying prospect.
At the same time, she knows how very rare golds are, and therefore that her chances of Impressing one are low. Which means, in all likelihood, she won't Impress at all...and then what will she do? She knows she won't be able to go home, so what then? That distant future scares her, but she reassures herself that it will all work out somehow. If she works hard enough and does what's right, maybe one of those shining Queens will want her...if not, she'll still have earned herself some worthwhile future, won't she have?
Positive Trait List industrious, humble, idealistic Negative Trait List subservient, hidebound, conformist History: Born in a small cothold, her parents a Smith and his wife, Elibrie is the second child of five, and part of a larger extended family that includes grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and the assortment of cousins that comes with that. Her cothold and family are extremely conservative, teaching trades only to men and expecting the women to marry and be content to raise families, and spend their lives tending to their husbands and children.
When Elibrie was about 12, her mother Orselie died during childbirth, and within a Turn after that, her Aunt Nadry was Searched. Elibrie's grandmother very much disapproved of this turn of events, after which the occasional visits from her Uncle M'yk and his dragon, sometimes with friends in tow, came to an abrupt end. What seemed like not long after, her grandmother informed the family that Nadry had died, killed by a dragonet at her first Hatching. Though hurt by the loss, Elibrie came to accept it as being a natural consequence of having aspirations beyond one's place in life. If anything, it was all the more reason to keep her head down, work hard, and listen to her father and grandparents.
Elibrie has been very close with her older sister Oranie, while her younger twin brothers, Elistan and Oristan, are just...little brothers. She'd fond of them, but other than helping to mind them when they were little (even though she was just a couple of turns less little), she's felt very separate from them. They have Crafts to learn, while and Oranie have been busy learning women's skills and taking care of the youngest, Briseli. Elibrie was recently deprived of her older sister's near-constant company, however, when Oranie was married soon after turning 17, to a man the next cothold over. The young woman was equal parts happy for her, wistfully envious of what she assumes must be her wonderful new life, and anxious for when it would be her turn.
That all changed quite abruptly, however, when she attended a winter Gather. No sooner had she been reunited with her sister after a few months spent apart, barely even just starting to catch up with her, when they found themselves the subject of interest of a visiting brown dragon. He declared that they would be just perfect Candidates, and hurried his rider along to give them all the details. As if the situation weren't surpising enough in and of itself, that rider turned out to be a very familiar face: none other than their Aunt Nadry, who was very much not dead. And was also very pregnant. Oranie eagerly accepted, while Elibrie, still in quite a bit of shock, quietly followed her sister in agreeing. Hoping to avoid making any more of a scene than her appearance already had, Nadry quickly bustled them up onto Menankith and away they went, before any ugly drama could unfold.
