- ➳ What's their alias?
- MERMAID
➳ How old are they?
- 19?
➳ Are they male or female?
- Female
➳ Are they human or a super?
- Super
➳ What's their preference?
- Unsure
➳ What are their powers if they have any?
- Amphibious Physiological Adaptation: Lorelei's body was specially developed for underwater conditions, granting her specialized blood circulation to withstand freezing temperatures and highly developed vision to see clearly even in murky depths. This physiology meant she could survive indefinitely underwater or on land, though she would still need occasional contact with water to survive.
Superhuman Speed: Lorelei could run and swim at speeds greater than even the finest human athlete. Her speed was greatest, however, while swimming, maximum speed of 30 miles per hour.
Superhuman Stamina: Lorelei's advanced musculature produces considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of normal human beings. Lorelei's stamina, much like her strength, steadily declined the longer she was out of contact with water and would diminish to the point where she only had slightly greater stamina than the finest human athlete.
Superhuman Agility: Lorelei's agility, balance, and bodily coordination were enhanced to levels that were beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete.
Superhuman Reflexes: Lorelei's reflexes were similarly heightened and were superior to those of the finest human athlete.
Aquatic Healing: If injured, Lorelei's body could heal damaged tissue faster and more extensively than an ordinary human. Lorelei's accelerated healing was at its peak while she was immersed in water and diminished the longer she was out of contact with water or if she was completely dry.
Extended Longevity: Lorelei ages much slower and lives much longer than human beings with the average lifespan being unknown.
Amphibious Breathing: Lorelei could breathe indefinitely underwater due to having gills located behind her ears. Lorelei could also breathe on land indefinitely as well without the aid of breathing devices.
Mental Detection: Almost like Empathy, she can sense when things are 'off' or something is wrong. This only works on people or living beings.
Acute Hearing: Lorelei has very Sensitive Hearing.
Bioelectricity: Lorelei can discharge bio-electricity similar to an electric eel, but seldom uses it. These glands are on her fingertips and can be also found in her lips.
Sonar: Lorelei possesses a natural form of sonar, works only underwater, but can be repurposed with some work on land.
Lateral Lines: Lorelei can detect subtle movement or vibrations around her, particularly underwater.
Water Manipulation: Lorelei can control, generate and absorb liquids, moving and shaping bodies of water to the user's desire: lifting, parting or otherwise manipulating its form and/or density. Water can easily serve as a weapon, either by shaping into gigantic whips, swung repeatedly at a target as a snake-like body, formed into a razor-sharp edge that can cut through even metal, or simply dropped to smother opponent or put out a fire. On the sea or ocean, she can create several natural phenomena related to water, such as: whirlpools, waterspouts, tidal waves, etc.
➳ What are their weaknesses?
- * Water Deficiency: When not exposed to water, many of Lorelei’s physical attributes gradually decline and can reach a point where she possesses only a small fraction of her powers. Lorelei's strength, stamina, and durability are affected most and, at their minimum known level, are much closer to humans. Renewed exposure to water will restore her abilities.
* Oxygen Imbalance: Lorelei has demonstrated a vulnerability to oxygen imbalance when remaining too long in dry air, resulting in manic-depressive mood swings. Lorelei is believed to be in the midst of an imbalance during the times in which she becomes angry or dizzy very easily and is unable to think clearly and logically. She can prevent this imbalance, however, by keeping water close by.
* Dehydration: Very powerful heat-based attacks are somewhat of a concern, as they cause dehydration; causing her body to dry faster, and weaken at an accelerated rate.
* Pollution: If Lorelai is immersed in or exposed to polluted water, it can have a negative effect both on her physiology and the efficiency of her physical attributes.
* She isn't stupid, just Ignorant.
➳ How do they act?
- Lorelei is kind and innocent but also very blunt at the same time. While most people her age are beyond smarter than her, she thinks she does just fine for what and where she is in life. She knows the animal's birds and bees, and now understands death and life. While she is very kind and sweet, even loving, she had a dark side that you do NOT want to cross.
She will drown you. She will laugh and smile as you choke on water desperate for air. That is, of course... if you anger her sufficiently. Lorelei is a very lonely individual who yearns for other human-like contact. She misses having a maternal figure in her life, and would love some friends and even her own romantic interest. While her current fishy friends are okay, they lack just about everything she yearns for. Plus, she sometimes has to eat some of them, so... awkward.
➳ What's their backstory?
- Lorelei was born to Melina Jones, a water based super who liked to drown the men who wronged her. When she became pregnant with Mad Manta's baby, she wasn't too excited since she was hardly mother material. Being a wanted criminal, it wasn't like she could walk into an abortion clinic, so she resorted to smoking and drinking heavily. Till the day she finally gave birth, it seemed this spawn was determined to live without her permission. When the baby was born deformed, complete with fishtail like a baby mermaid, Melina didn't tell Mad Manta about it, she simply drove out to Lake Michigan and threw the babe into the cold water. She thought nothing of it and said nothing about her pregnancy or the baby to anyone. Melina took it to the grave with her when she ironically died of alcohol poisoning and just about the worse liver and lungs the autopsy doctor had ever seen. Little merbabe barely survived on her own, but thankfully was found by an old woman who picked the babe up from the beach on her property. It seemed the freakish-looking babe had washed ashore in the night. Beverly, a widower of seven years now, who had no children, decided to raise and take care of the poor thing and successfully brought the merbabe back from the brink of death. Bev named the little girl Lorelei and bought all kinds of fish related things to place inside her home to help the merbabe survive.
The years went on like any normal upbringing, minus almost anything normal having to do with her situation. SHe was taught as well as she could, but Bev was starting to forget things. Lorelei noticed that her adopted mother was often getting lost in her own home and she often had to help somehow from her large tank in the living room (which now consisted of the tank, a tv, and a couch with a small path through). Lorelei was upset and confused to why Bev was having such troubles. Sometimes she would even forget to feed Lorelei, or who she even was. Bev even forgot to feed herself or get dressed or even where she was! When Bev fell a year later, Lorelei had to figure out how to climb out of her tank to help her. At about seven years old, she figured out that when she was exposed to air, her fishy tail split painfully into two legs much like Bev! It was a good thing too, since without that... Bev wouldn't have gotten helped.
Lorelei put her to her bed on the couch, as best as she could without knowing how to walk on these wobbling stick legs, and climbed back into her tank. What she didn't understand was that Bev was hurt, badly. She had hit her head during the fall and wasn't sleeping, but unconscious. When Lorelei awoke the next morning, she found that Bev hadn't even moved or gotten breakfast started. Braving the pain of split legs, she got out of the tank again to wake up Bev. She shook her and called out to her, but Bev didn't move. Lei didn't understand why. She had never faced death before; she didn't understand it. It was horrible, this realization that this wasn't right or okay, that something was badly wrong with her adoptive mom. Upset, Lorelei hid in her tank, drawing the privacy curtains closed in fear and not knowing what else to do.
Lai tried so hard to wake Bev up, did everything one could imagine that would wake another up. But nothing worked. Lei cried hard and pleaded, she didn't understand! WHY?! Was she ignoring her, had she done something wrong? What was the horrible smell?! Days went by with Lei having to care for herself at seven years old. She still didn't get it till a few weeks had passed. The smell was horrendous. The body was... rotting? Bev was being hurt by this long sleep! Fearful, Lei moved what she could outside so she could breathe. She didn't know how to clean her tank... Bev always did that... She had to move out of the filthy large water box, the water smelt and tasted like the hurting sickness that was happening to Bev.
It was a few days later that a knocking sound happened at the door. There were light orbs moving around and she peered through the back door to see what was going on. The whole house reeked of the hurting sickness that was attacking Bev. SHe was told to never talk to strangers, never let them see you, never answer the door or call out. It was the most important rule... that and water and anything 'eel-lek-tric' did not mix. Lei got out of her outdoor tank and kept silent as her tail dried to split into two legs. The men in matching clothes broke down the door, speaking of 'decomp smell' and shouting for whoever was there to come out. She did not. No, she wasn't about to break rules now. Lei, scared of what the bad men were doing to Bev, crawled out of her hiding spot behind her tank and drug herself under the house where the filthy moist dirt and bugs lingered. She didn't have any of her things with her, her clothes, her books, or even her toys. It was horrible! She had to wait hours upon hours for them as they trampled around flashing those harsh light everywhere and talking in deep voices and unknown terms. A few men threw up in the grating close to where she was hiding. HOW RUDE!
When it all grew quiet the next morning, Lei poked her head out of the white lattice work and drug herself out of the dirty hiding spot. SHe felt so weak... so dry and tired. She dipped herself in her outdoor tank and healed while she could. It took till the sun came up fully till she felt better, a nap helped after all. But she had to check on Bev! What had the bad men done to her. Couldn't they see she was sick!? She got out and checked on the back door. What was this new yellow tape? SHe tried to read it. Cau-tion- do not cross? What did that mean? Lei ripped it down and entered the house... it still reeked, but BEV WAS GONE! She ran to the horrendously grisly spot where Bev once lay. Everything was marked off and some fluid was spilled all over the floor, it was gross!
It took her an hour before she realized... she was alone for real. Maybe Bev was too sick to stay with her? She was something called 'Ninety'. THat had seemed important to her. Lei still didn't understand why Bev had to go away... why Bev didn't want her anymore. It made her deeply sad to think of these things. What she hadn't paid attention to was the cops stationed outside the front of the house. She had never been out the front door. She gathered up her things and decided that if Bev didn't want her anymore then she would leave too. When the cops heard rustling inside they suspected thieves and burst in the front door, scaring her half to death! They had guns drawn and pointed them at her. She didn't know what they were, just that the bad men were yelling at her. She was seen; she had broken the golden rule. Lei did what they asked. She stayed still... she was 'naked' or whatever they said.
She was offered a coat, but she turned it down. She was asked questions, to which she answered. SHe lived here. Bev was her momma, and she was sick and then she was taken away. The cops explained to her that Beverly had died some weeks ago. They wanted to know why she hadn't gone for help or told anyone. And of course, how she could just live with a dead decomposing body. Lei didn't have any answers for that. SHe didn't even know she was supposed to.
After the questions were answered, some woman showed up and said that she was going to take her to another home. Lei refused the strange people and grew aggressive with them. It was then that she was taken to some 'car' by force. She full on bit the woman's arm and ran off towards Lake Michigan. Taking a dive into the water and vanishing. For years, no one knew what the hell had gone on in that place, and eventually she was forgotten. But every now and then, there would be sightings of Lake Michigan's own mermaid.
