- Vincent believes himself superior to most everyone else. Though selfish in his obsession he actually thinks himself very generous in trying to gift the world with spider physiology and create a world with a superior race. He is very intelligent, manipulative and logical in his actions, except when it comes to Ariadne, the first spider, his queen.
➳ What's their backstory?
- Dr. Vincent Harkness always had a love for snakes, spiders and all things venomous even from a young age. Spiders in particular were his favourite, though he still had a fondness for scorpions, snakes and any other venomous creature. He even had a small fascination for poisonous plants. Naturally this led him to be a bit of an outcast at school and even his parents were occasionally worried about such an obsession that seemed to go beyond the normal boy interest in creepy crawlies. It was the age of 12 that things started to change for Vincent. Unlike most, whose powers seemed to come all at once in a moment of need, his came slowly. He started doing better in gym class, he could see, hear and smell things other people couldn’t, kids who used to despise and bully him suddenly wanted to be his friend and most strangely of all spiders seemed attracted to him. He was 14 before he came to realise that he was something more than human, at 15 he made his first spider’s silk and by 16 he had grown full control of his eight legged friends, even being able to order them to walk into a flame if he wished. If first transformation wouldn’t come until much later in life though. As he grew older this love was refined into biology and chemistry, and almost as if it was fate Vincent went into the field of toxicology.
There he quickly rose in the ranks of the scientific, medical and academic communities, though he found himself often frustrated by the laws and moral codes standing in the way of his science. He knew there was something in his DNA that was the key to greatness for the human race. He was faster, stronger and healed more quickly. If he could share the gifts of his spiders, he would be given untold fortunes and fame for curing disease. Just as he could control spiders he would be able to control these new humans. He started experimenting on those with incurable diseases, using the fake name of Dr. Ivan Leikos. After all they were doomed to die anyway and would not be missed. Some got stronger, others weaker, all died until Ariadne.
After the events with Ariadne Vincent continued his experiments in a secret lab. No longer having the hospital to supply him with people to experiment on, Vincent took to kidnapping. It wasn't hard with his abilities. Even with the same formula, Formula V-148B, his patients kept dying instead of becoming the wonderful creature himself and Ariadne had become. He knew he needed to find her again. In her was the key to making a superior race of humanoid spiders.
