Who: Eden (Cynny) & Ethiriel (Neon)
Where: Gambino Outlets, a small strip of boutique shops.
When: Just after noon.
Weather: Warm and sunny with a hint of an autumn breeze.

-----

They were in Gambino for yet another festival or presentation or something--Ian had told her details but she couldn't remember most of them--and instead of following him around and draining her phone's battery, Eden had convinced him to drop her off somewhere again. All she'd really had to do was whine a bit and complain about she'd just be annoying him the entire time and he'd been sold. She'd dismissed all his 'hmms' and 'haas' about keeping her phone on and calling him if she needed anything, and then she was off!

After a bit of searching on her phone while they were driving, she'd found this little outlet mall not far from where Ian was looking at flowers and displays and such. Boutiques were a lot more interesting than department stores, even if they took a bit more work to look through. But it was worth it--the first two stores had already proven to be very trendy and she'd already put a few things on hold at each! Ian hadn't given her any money yet, so she needed him to buy her things when he picked her back up. Oh well. Most of the fun was trying things on, anyway.

As she passed by an antique store sandwiched between a clothing boutique and a little cafe, Eden couldn't ignore the familiar silhouette of a girl standing--no, hovering--in front of the shop window. A raevan! She had a stomach like Cesc did, but she looked completely different than any of the raevans she'd met so far. Delicate and dainty with long, long dark hair, she was as close to a fairy princess as Eden had ever seen.

"Uh, excuse me? Hi! I couldn't help noticing- you're a raevan! Right? I mean... what else could you be?" She grinned brightly and her wings fluttered as she stood a pace or two away from the other girl. Though she wanted to zoom right up to her, Ian had been teaching her about personal space.

With Nedhudir at her side, Ethiriel roamed the walkways of the outlet mall. Henry had mentioned that there was a nice little antique shop here that usually had some decent silver findings, and the Sigel vaguely remembered coming here once or twice before with the nurse.

She was glad that Henry seemed to be becoming more and more comfortable with her wanderings -- since growing, Ethiriel had become more restless with staying cooped up in the house; she still had her sun room and the back yard, but it was nice to get out and do things on her own. With her phone's GPS and her collie at her side, she wasn't at all worried about getting lost. Most of her worries dealt with other people... her kidnapping as a young Frei would still pop up in the back of her mind every once in a while, but nothing similar had happened since so it wasn't an immediate or constant thought when she was out and about.

As she hovered just outside the antique shop, her attention currently on her phone as she confirmed the address and location, an unfamiliar voice caught her attention. Ethiriel had noticed the flowery scent of a new Raevan in her presence, though she couldn't quite gauge their proximity from smell alone, so she held back her desire to search them out in the first place. However, she always relied on the curiosity and interest of others finding their kind to lead them to her.

The thought made a smile creep on her face.

"Ah, yes," she said, turning her head to face Eden with a serene expression. Without a moment's hesitation, sure of where she was and, admittedly, confident that a new Raevan would want to keep her company (at least, for a little while), Ethiriel pocketed her phone and gently tugged on Nedhudir's collar to approach just a tad more. Her milky eyes landed vaguely in Eden's direction. "I take it you are too?"

When the other Raevan responded to her greeting, Eden's smile widened like a flower blooming. It was always so interesting to see how different she was from other Raevans, even if they were all kin. The same process, the same magic, but completely different results depending on the components. She still didn't know much about how it worked, and she was sure that essences could vary as much as fingerprints, but the built-in sense of kinship and understanding was comforting.

"Huh? Oh- yeah! I mean, I'm definitely younger than you but I'm a Raevan. My name's Eden, what's yours?" She let her own eyes linger on the Sigel's clouded ones; combined with that and her question Eden was sure she was blind. Taking advantage of the unrestrained freedom to inspect, the nymph took in the other Raevan's appearance in detail. They were similar in some ways, very plant-like and delicate, but this Sigel was much more muted and... calm, that seemed like the word. Where her own flowers were silken and real, this elven girl had leaves that shone like silver winding through her hair. And her wings! They didn't really look like wings at all, more like branches growing straight from her back.

After a moment she realized she had probably been completely silent for an awkwardly long time and cleared her throat. "Um- If it's okay, can I ask what you are? Like, your essence and stuff?" She laughed softly and twirled a piece of her bubblegum hair around her finger. "Everyone's so different, I just like learning about them." Her wings flared out and she shifted, waving a hand toward herself. Could this girl see anything? Vague shapes? Colors? "I'm a nymph, and uh... Parasitic cherry blossom, I think it is? It's kinda weird, but basically it didn't die I guess?" One shoulder rose and then fell in a delicate shrug and she toyed with the pendant on her choker, waiting with an expectant smile for the other girl to answer.

Able to hear the smile in Eden's voice, Ethiriel's expression softened contently. "Eden... what a lovely name," she cooed, loosening her grip on Nedhudir's leash just a tad, adjusting so that she could fold her hands before her torso. "My name is Ethiriel. It is a pleasure to meet you." The Sigel's own smile grew, easily meeting her eyes. With one hand, she motioned toward the collie beside her, "And this is Nedhudir."

While Eden took in Ethiriel's appearance, the tea Raevan did much the same for the Frei's scent -- so delicate and lovely, sweet and relaxing. She'd smelled it a couple times before when visiting Candice, usually from shampoos or soups, but smelling it up close and personal was much more welcomed now that she'd had the chance.

To be honest, the Sigel was used to strange pauses when it came to first meetings. Ethiriel had been told many times that she was lovely, and while it never went to her head, she was aware that it made others stare or soak in her looks. Her gentle smile never left as she allowed Eden to look her over, but at the question she gently bowed her head, chocolate tresses pooling over her shoulders. "There is no issue. My soul is a tea plant and my essence is 'unoxidized silver.'" While she wasn't wearing any green, she didn't think to explain just what kind of tea she was and, to be honest, it wasn't a big issue. "That is quite interesting. A forever-living blossom..."

Opening her eyes, Ethiriel managed to catch a glimpse of the pendant in Eden's hand, but it was easier to assume that she was just staring forward. "It seems as though running into other Raevans is a more common occurrence than one would think. What brings you out today?"

Eden smiled down at Nedhudir and reached down to let him sniff her hand. "Aw, so cute!" As Ethiriel explained her own combination, Eden's brow creased a bit. "Un... unoxidized? What does that mean?" She asked as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "But that makes sense, those look like tea leaves in your hair. But they're silver!" She grinned and her wings fluttered a little. She prided herself on being able to identify plants and flowers by sight; it was an instinctual knowledge she'd noticed the first time she went into Ian's shop. He hadn't had to tell her any of the names, she'd known them all immediately.

When Ethiriel mentioned running into other Raevans, and how common it seemed, Eden blinked in surprise. "Oh, really? I mean, I guess there are quite a few of us right? But everyone lives in different cities..." She shrugged and glanced at the shop they were floating in front of.

"Me? Well, my dad's at a work thing and it was gonna be super boring, so I had him drop me off here. I've been to a few shops already, I'm just kinda making my way down the block." She sighed and crossed her arms over her chest, her tone taking on a slight pout. "But I don't have any money, so I can't buy anything until he comes to get me..."

Seeming to realize she was talking about herself a lot, Eden perked up and adjusted as if she were shifting her weight to the other leg if she'd had one. "What about you? Just taking Nedhudir for a walk?"

Given he wasn't off duty, Nedhudir didn't react to Eden's approaching hand other than a quick and subtle sniff as he remained glued to Ethiriel's side. The Sigel hadn't noticed and instead decided to continue on to the Frei's questions. "I've never had to explain it before," she laughed, raising her free hand to lightly rub her cheek. "When silver oxidizes, it becomes tarnished. Essentially, I cannot tarnish." Much like Eden, Ethiriel had a decent knowledge of plants, but she could only go by touch and smell -- which was sometimes dangerous.

"I've been around for quite some time, so it might just be that I've had more chances. I'm sure there are several more of us that I have yet to meet, but hopefully someday this can be remedied."

With Eden not mentioning any names, Ethiriel had no idea that she was speaking of Ian and couldn't connect what work he could have been doing. This was none of her business so she continued on regardless. "I know how that feels. I can only go on what my own guardian gives me, but he does make sure I have more than enough. He's very good to me."

"Mm?" the Sigel hummed, brows raised. "Oh. Well, yes. Mostly. I like to get out of the house more lately, and Nedhudir likes to come into town. I also came to fetch myself some more silver for later." With that, Ethiriel offered Eden a smile through closed eyes and a tilted head.

As Ethiriel explained the meaning of her essence realization dawned on Eden's younger face and she grinned brightly. "Oh, that's cool! So you'll be shiny and bright forever!" She tossed her hair over her shoulder with a soft giggle.

Ethiriel's speech pattern was fairly different from that of anyone else she'd met so far, much more careful and deliberate, with very few contractions. She overall seemed very subdued, almost restricted. Was she doing that on purpose, or was she just really proper? Eden supposed it didn't really matter. Ian had told her that Ethiriel was very much a lady, but she was also older than her. Ian was kind of serious too, did that just happen when you got older? But Cesc hadn't seemed super serious...

When the other Raevan replied to her question about what she was doing, Eden snapped out of her thoughts. "Oh! Do you like... feed off of it? I mean you're made of silver sort of, right? I uh- Ian says I'm kind of like a vampire. I don't drink blood, obviously! I just drain energy, I guess. He says he got really dizzy when he first picked me up!" She giggled again and glanced at the shop they were standing in front of. "I can help you look, if you want! I was just making my way down this strip mall," she offered gently, tilting her head to the side.

The silver Sigel couldn't help but stifle a giggle at Eden's comment and bowed her head before adding, "I'm not quite sure how it tethers in, but apparently my silver is also indestructible." Already, Ethiriel was starting to like the young Frei -- and her scent was definitely pleasant to be around.

Part of the older Raevan's speech patterns were force of habit, like her many attempts at being a proper lady, but the rest came from her nature, her personality. It was much easier on her not having to think of contractions -- it was just how her mind worked. In a way, it was a little bit of growing older, but it certainly wasn't the main cause. Ethiriel never really thought about it... at least, not since she had adamantly attempted to change her way of speaking when Gabe said she was trying too hard. Now, it was just natural.

To Eden's next round of questions, Ethiriel nodded. Reaching lightly up to her slightly exposed collar, she toyed with the silver charm around her neck. It was something especially important to her, a silver branch given to her by Cesc, and she rarely parted with it. Holding it out softly, the Sigel explained, "I can feed from silver itself, yes, but I mostly feed from the tarnish on jewelry or antiques. Soaking in pure silver fills me most, but it is not something I prefer doing. Tarnish is more of a habit." And with a slight pause to allow the younger Frei to respond, Ethiriel answered, "That would sound quite correct for an essence with the title 'parasitic,' my friend. Have you begun learning to control it, or does it happen on its own?" Then, she nodded toward the shop. "I am not at all opposed to company -- especially that of another Raevan. If you will forgive me for my presumptuous nature, I was quite counting on it."

Her smile grew just a tad wider.

Eden's brows rose slightly while Ethiriel explained how she fed. From what should could gather, Raevans' "food" preferences were as unique and varied as they were. She hadn't met many so far, but none of them were even remotely similar.

"Oh, cool!" She pushed open the door to the store and led the way inside, holding it open for Ethiriel like Ian had taught her. Once they were inside she let out a soft huff of a sigh and frowned, focusing her gaze on the countless trinkets already visible.

"Well, I think it's mostly happening on its own right now," she started quietly. Eden tucked a piece of hair behind her ear before picking up a little porcelain figurine, examining the detail of the tiny elephant. There was a small line between her brows and her wings drooped slightly. "Ian says I still give him headaches, and I don't always mean to." She laughed softly, her tone mischievous as she brightened again. "Sometimes I sip just a little if he's being stubborn. So I can do it on purpose but it doesn't really...feed me? I think they're two different powers."

Tossing her hair over her shoulder, Eden glanced toward Ethiriel and pulled out her cellphone in a fluid, muscle-memory type of motion. "So what kinda stuff are you looking for? Like--silverware, or what?" She typed out a quick reply to Ian in a flurry of thumbs, a minimal answer to yet another check-in text.

With the sound of the bell hanging from the ceiling clacking against the opening door, Ethiriel offered Eden a small bow before entering the building. Up front there wasn't much silver so nothing managed to catch the Sigel's eye quite yet.

"I have met a few Raevans who feed idly, but I do not know that process. I feed actively. I wonder if it makes it easier..." Ethiriel mused aloud, her hand hovering delicately over each antique so that she could get an idea of where she was physically. "It sounds to me like that would, indeed, be a separate ability. I am able to soak in silver, but I am also able to expel it by making things for others, or allowing it to coat my skin. If I soak in extra silver, it means I could produce more, but it does make me feel... full and lethargic, I suppose." She then turned to Eden and smiled warmly. "You are young, you will have plenty of time to distinguish the two, I am sure."

There was a subtle twitch of Ethiriel's ears at the question and she turned away to glance around the filled room. She hummed in thought, smile still in place, as she finally found a clump of silver across from her, hidden beneath some thin cloth. "Anything. I do prefer jewelry because I can often gift it to others when I am finished feeding from it, but I will take whatever I can get." As she held her hands out, Ethiriel barely had to graze anything in front of her in order to avoid it, and soon she was in front of the old silver medals hidden in a glass case. "I find that now that I am Sigel, my need for feeding my essence has lessened. I still need it, but not as much as... 'regular food,' for lack of better terms.

"And what of you, might I ask? What do you hope to find here?"
the Sigel asked softly, her smile still meeting her eyes as she passed another glance to Eden. "I do apologize for becoming lengthy in speech. I do get excited around other Raevans."

Eden knew that Ethiriel had not meant it to be condescending, but she was not the first to use the words 'you are young, you have plenty of time.' Ian used them often, and so did quite a few other people in her life. None of them meant to be insulting, but the phrase was starting to annoy her. For a moment she was grateful for Ethiriel's blindness so that she couldn't see her roll her eyes. She wasn't that young; it wasn't like she was literally a baby!

Latching onto Ethiriel's reply to her question, Eden made a soft noise of acknowledgement. "Oh, that's cool. Cesc is a Sigel too, that's why you guys can eat real food right? You have a stomach." She didn't watch Ethiriel as she spoke, too busy mulling over the strange and old-fashioned things on the various tables and shelves they passed. The whole shop had a bit of a musty smell to it that came with rust and tarnish, but already her nose was getting used to it.

"Hm? Oh, it's okay! Ian is really quiet so I like being around chatty people." She laughed and adjusted the strap of her purse on her shoulder, wings fluttering. "I mean, I didn't really plan to come in here and not a lot of this is my style, but um... some of it is cute. I don't think I really need anything here though," she said hesitantly. Honestly she wasn't really into antiques, they were all old and some of them were really dirty. Not to mention it seemed weird to wear other people's old clothes--the smell of the shop would probably never go away completely. "But it's cool that you can kind of repurpose stuff like that. It's like recycling!"

Eden followed Ethiriel to the glass case of medals, blinking. "Are those real silver? I mean... no offense, but how can you tell? It all looks the same to me," she trailed off, casting a hesitant glance toward Ethiriel's milky eyes. Maybe she wasn't entirely blind?

Rather than giving an audible response to Eden's musing, Ethiriel nodded as she tried to examine the silver through the glass. The shop dealer hadn't noticed the pair yet, having been busy with other customers, but luckily for the Sigel, the thin cloth that had barely covered them was on top of the glass case and not inside.

When it came to the rusty smell, the silver Raevan relished in it -- of course, it made her run thrum in hunger, but in a good way.

"Ah, yes. I do remember meeting Ian. He had many questions for Henry and myself. He is quite nice," Ethiriel said fondly, vaguely turning to Eden to offer a close-eyed smile. When the conversation turned back to the shop, she nodded again. "I find that most other Raevans do not have the same interest in these things that I do, but we are all different. Perhaps someday I shall find a companion who enjoys these outings," she said softly, a slight giggle accenting the end. Again she nodded, liking the idea of recycling what she didn't need. Gifting was certainly something she enjoyed, and the Sigel was quite thankful that the way she fed offered the means to do so.

Ethiriel turned back to the case, eyes locking with the medals in question. "There is no offense to be taken. These are... mostly real. They are coated in silver, but they are not solid -- I do believe they have copper filling, but I do not know much about the creation of them." Raising a silver nail to her lips, she pressed softly. "My eyes are... somewhat deceiving. I cannot see anything but silver, and I am able to see just how pure it is. These shine brightly, so the coating on them is pure. If they were dim, they would be diluted. Does this make sense?"

While her smile never left, the curve on Ethiriel's lips blossomed. Something about Eden's floral scent uplifted her and she felt very pleasant. "I am in no need of these, however, and there does not seem to be any other silver in the shop. Shall we carry on? Perhaps to a store of your choosing, instead?" There might have been a definite gap in interest and "age," she was interested in making friends with Eden without a doubt.

Eden shrugged. "I mean, I don't mind shopping but I don't think I'd have picked this store. Everything's a bit... old, for my tastes," she said with a pointed glance at the surrounding pre-owned objects. She wasn't against a good vintage find, but she really had to be in the right mood and she was really more interested in vintage clothing. Today was not one of those days.

As Ethiriel turned away from the medals, deeming them unworthy of the effort, Eden raised her brows. "Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Since your essence is silver, right? That's pretty cool!" She made a bit of a pouty face and folded her arms. "I wish I had a cool power like that. I mean, I just kind of know what kind of flower something is, but... that's about it for now. I hope I get something really cool!" She decided against mentioning the whole 'I suck the life out of things' ability for now.

"Oh, you're not going to get them?" She didn't understand why, but wasn't going to press it. Maybe Ethiriel wanted only the purest things. The medals also looked fairly clean, maybe it wasn't worth the effort to feed on such a small amount of tarnish. The nymph slowly drifted toward the front of the shop again, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "Hmm... I think there's a cute boutique a few doors down. They might have some jewelry, but I doubt it would be old or tarnished like you want. They have some cute clothes though!"
