She couldn't hold her breath anymore. She was dizzy and felt weak. "Angel..." she whined, a rolling nausea sweeping over her as she began to cough and gag. Gnash needed to get out of this room, back to clean air! She tugged on Angel's fin weakly, before she leaned against her lusus and needed to be carried away, a snort of derision from her lusus in response. Out of all the disasters she helped fight, this was definitely the worst one. She hoped they could resolve it quickly, before it spread to the whole building! Her whole body ached from the effort it took to even help what little she had.

you opt to merely slam your fist against the wall. The buttons you hit flash blue, and you watch four of the red dots on the monitor blink off. Success! Unfortunately, a vent right above your head opens and gushes forth a toxic cloud. A lone red dot blips onto the blueprint. Take 4 dmg, and deal +2 dmg.
Another night, another damn crisis to deal with before the press got to it. Psykgi had heard about the chemical leak and rushed over to help and hold off the reporters who wanted their newest scoop to be mishaps at the highblood schoolfeeding institution. Those ******** muckrakers.
As she approached, she caught of whiff of... whatever it was. It was awful, stinging her throat and making her cough.
Yeah, no. Standing outside and generally pretending it wasn't there wasn't going to work. She had to see how close they were to shutting it down, and try to expedite it a little if she could. She took a deep breath and, eyes watering, ran in.
Ma'am came in after her, a cloud of scurrying, scuttling roaches. "Ma, no, get out of h..." But it was too late. The chemicals in the room drove the swarm into a frenzy, sending them against the buttons rapidly as if they were mimicking a certain cockroach poet of lore.

A cloud of gas erupted forth from a ceiling vent, and a large chunk of the swarm collapsed to the floor, a pile of dead roaches...

The remaining roaches of the swarm whirled around rapidly and haphazardly. Psykgi spotted a manual out of the corner of her tearing eyes and went over it. She read as much as she could before her eyes began to blur. "You!" she said, pointing with what she hoped was authoritative drama at another troll, "Push the I-O-4-9-G buttons! In order!" She put the manual down and began to back out of the room. "That should do something."
A puff of gas emerged over the other troll's head, and Psykgi made her exit just as she saw more of the roaches drop from the gas. It was fine - there were more outside (and everywhere) - but she didn't want to end up like this part of her lusus.
Chiara is attacking the Chemical Leak If you rolled a 5, you refuse to give into the wooziness threatening to take over you. Studying your peers inputs, you used your deductive reasoning to figure out how to shut off several vents elsewhere in the facility, but at the sacrifice of opening one in this room. You do it anyway. Take 3 dmg, and deal +3 dmg. Dmg (+1): 8 Hp: 6/20
The Chemical leak was starting to burn Chiara's sniffnode. The blueblood leaned on her redblood companion to keep herself steady. "You know, this is a terrible place to have scientists." Said the blueblood as she regained her balance and was capable of standing on her own again. "I mean all these fumes? Near our "brightest" scientists and researcher? Yeah... no problem, brain cells just grown back, of course." Chiara said sarcastically. "Arnt you worried about your own brain cells, Nerd? This stuff is toxic, right?" Chiara glared at her surroundings, they were a pretty piss pore excuse for a science facility.

In the midst of puzzling over the control panel, Ephias felt a sudden weight across his shoulder. An involuntary shudder passed through him. He glanced up from his work to see the blueblood leaning against him of all things. He felt a wave of revulsion. Briskly, he stepped aside with a simple, “Don't.” She did not look so far gone that she needed assistance. He returned his attention to the control panel.
“I can leave if that would give you less to worry about,” he replied. The remark slipped out before he realised it. He flipped a switch on the dashboard, watching as several lights went off and several more went on. Damn. He reached up underneath his visor to rub at his eyes. “D-Did you find anything?” he rasped.
HP: 12/20 Damage: 3 Take 1 damage each roll after until support power is used on you.
"The faster we fix this place, the less time we have to spend in it." Amonee whimpered and got to his feet. The whole building was bothering him and he couldn't wait to be back outside again. There were a few buttons in the room and he squinted at them before pressing a combination of numbers that were on a fortune cookie fortune in his pocket. Maybe they really were lucky!
Z-z-zzzap! A small panel opened and zapped the jadeblood straight in the face. He could swear he was seeing stars! Amonee let out a weird merp of noise before falling against the wall and rubbing at his smarting pained sniffnode, whining about the injustice of this cruel and unusual torture building.
"I wanna go home." He sniffled to himself but those big sad eyes looked straight at Nucleo as if he were silently begging to be carried outside.

You flip through the pages and glean some bit of insight about how this damn thing works, but you're starting to see double and pass it off to another troll in the hopes it can help. Take 2 damage and deal 2x damage before running off for a breather! Dmg (+1): 13 Hp: 4/20

The redblood was being snarky. Chiara grinned as he emitted an emotion, she licked her lips as he shuttered. Yes, this one would remember her. Thats all it was, really, setting herself into their lives, like a diamond into a cheap copper setting. "Alright Mr. shy guy. You want to push me away, do so." Chiara took a step away from the redblood. He had to have been feeling the damages his body was taking. "But, i have a feeling your going to need this..." Chiara leaned in, making sure not to touch the boy. She put her hand just over he shoulder, not close enough touch him, but still in that personal bubble trolls hated so much. She pulled out her artifact. With a quick motion she pressed the charm to the boy's forehead and felt it react. "How about a little "thank you" huh?" The blueblood said, staring him in the eyes.

Ma'am began to smack herself against the buttons, driven to a frenzy by the chemicals. Roach after roach after roach after roach hit the buttons one by one, pattering like a chitinous rain and, somehow, being more helpful than harmful as this tiny node of the swarm dwindled and died.
Sacrifice. For the collective.
Psykgi waited outside the room, directing other trolls away. A roach tentatively crawled onto her shoulder, and she petted it. It was always nice to be reassurred that her Ma was always here, and would always be there for her... no matter how eerie it was to see so many of her die like that.
"Move along! Nothing to see here!" she said cheerily. And, hopefully in a few minutes, nothing to burn their breathing organs, either.

"Hang on, I think I see something over..." Nucleo wasn't really listening as Amonee whined about the lab. He thought he could make out some sort of clipboard across the room and decided to risk it. There wasn't much protection for the short journey but he'd be fast. It'd be fine! All he had to do was run!
Nucleo made it halfway across the room when he heard the unmistakable sound of a shock behind him. Eyes widening, the greenblood turned around in slow motion to see Amonee fried in between the eyes by a weird laser. When did that get there?! In his surprise, the boy took a breath of air, forgetting himself, and then regretted the burning sensation in his lungs immediately. Oh gog- he was going to die. Falling onto the floor, Nucleo began to cough and then crawl back towards the jade blood.
It was Nucleo's turn to silently beg to be carried outside.

Boy, was she pushy. His irritation continued to grow as she wormed her way back into his space. He decided not to give her the satisfaction of a reaction, when he felt a light pressure against his forehead from something cool and metallic. Now really. That was too much! He was about to object, but felt something like goosebumps crawl over his flesh. A medical trinket.
The itch in his lungs began to fade and relieved some of the pressure in his chest. His throat relaxed. He could breathe again. That was not all though. The burn marks in his exoskeleton turned pale as new skin filled in the holes until there was hardly a blemish on him. He felt invigorated. No, better than invigorated—he felt awake. His mind was clear and his thoughts sharp. Amazing what a little medical care could do.
When the psychic energy depleted, Ephias turned to regard the blueblood, who grinned at him. He blinked. “Thanks,” he said. He meant it too. As he stared her down however, he realised her own weakening condition. He frowned. “You should have saved it for yourself though. I would have... would have been fine.” Pulling up his jacket and shirt sleeve, he revealed the armband around his wrist. He had been saving it for an emergency, and this seemed to qualify. Before the blueblood could object, he activated it, channelling its power through a broad beam of red light.
“How's that?” he asked when the light dimmed.

"Oh my Gog! Hold on, I'll get us out of here." The sight of Nucleo gasping for breath on the floor was hard to watch. The other boy had inhaled a bad amount of the weird gases leaking through the building and the painter thought it was time to leave. The only problem was, Nucleo was heavier than anything Amonee had ever lifted with his arms before. Squatting down, he frowned and reached to pull the sickly barista towards him.
"I'm going to put you on my back, alright? It's going to be okay." He hoped anyways. Pulling the heavier troll onto his back, Amonee let out a grunt of discomfort as his muscles shrieked out when he tried to stretch back into a standing position. This was going to be a really rough ride. He took a step forward and tried hard not to breath in any more than he had to. Then another.
Slowly, the two greenblooded worked their way back outside to fresh air and nature's beautiful sky above them where they belonged. Letting Nucleo down on the grass of a nearby lawn, Amonee collapsed into the green as well and laid there silently for a few minutes to catch his breath and deal with the internal ache in his body. They were safe though and that was what mattered.

Dr. Verier’s dour face appears on the monitors stationed around the facility. He doesn’t look especially happy, though that’s nothing new.
“The recommencing of our work on the Space Ladder, unfortunately, cannot proceed. Not only have we received a bomb threat, but it appears some kind of virus or faulty code in our AI system has prematurely activated our defense mechanisms.”
He reaches under his visor, pinches the bridge of his sniffnode. “On regular circumstances I would not risk the safety of volunteers, but as this situation has reached a critical standstill, we need all the help we can get. Report to the construction site immediately.” A pause. “Thank you.”
