"All Your Steel Won't Protect You...
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

TABTAB Lucien witnessed the spectical before him. The Count being killed swiftly and brutally. He had to admit, he was not sure if he should have been terrified of Almira's display or aroused by it. Most likely a mixture of both. As it stood, the battle ceased; there was no one left to fight. He allowed the other human woman speak, the one he had thought died with the rest of the servants at the beginning. Her existence was a mystery to be unravelled, but a puzzle for a later date. He allowed his gaze to trail along the room itself in its entirety before scrunching his nose. He sheathed his sword and snapped his fingers before gesturing to the gore around him. The skeletons and corpses under his command began immediately to clean out the debris of the battle. But he also snapped soon after and pointed at the vampire. "Take the body. I have use of it." The vampire, though foolish enough to believe he could stand against the three of them, also knew the vampire was a resource that still had value I. The form of magical knowledge. The spell he used to incapacite the room was something Lucien wanted.

TABTAB As the cleaning continued, Lucien clasped his hands behind his back and approached the two women. "Destiny, maybe not. But this would be an opportunity that would be foolish to waste." He let his eyes fall back on the surroundings. "I would propose a truce. A trinity of sorts. We compliment each other well, and could benefit from such a treaty."

...If Your Mind Is Weak."

      Energy 695 + 20 - 50 = 665/750
      Stats Strength: 6(+1) | Speed: 8(+1) | DR: 0
      Equipment Longsword, Grimiore

      Passives
      • Humans, being great leaders, both wise and cunning, apply a boost of +1 strength and speed to all of their allies (including themselves). This applies to summons, machines, necromantic minions, tamed animals, and RPCs

      Unleashed Power
Humans do not have supernatural energy. Indeed, they were not originally capable of magic, like the other races. It took hundreds of years of conformity, training, and even technological help to develop the ability to learn magic. However, when the goal was finally accomplished and settled, their physical augmentation turned out to be quite impressive. Their bodies gained the ability to contain and control magic, and also a unique other ability, gained through this augmentation: the power to pull magical energy from other sources. Just as humans often resort to solar power for electricity and whatnot, they can devise similar tactics when it comes to energy. Humans can pull solar power, whether gradual (meaning even if you're out of the sunlight, you can still do this) or present. This adds a scaling number to their energy regen per post:

      Novice - 50
      Adept - 100
      Expert - 150
      Master - 200
      Sage - 250

      Human Revolution
All humans have augmentations. They are installed when you're born. Most of them are unnoticeable, as they're inside of your body. Some of them are very small, but that doesn't mean they're not powerful. All humans have the ability to choose one gene mod at the start of their creation, from this list:

~Undead Revolt: Undead minions (Necromancer Slaves) stats are increased by +2/+2, and their class abilities are increased by one rank.

      Lose Yourself
A bit of cunning. A survival tactic. Humans know psychology very well, and are constantly looking for ways to gain an edge on someone. They're much less straightforward than other races, as they battle for psychological dominance, always. They can use this to their advantage. While speaking to people, you can use the assistance of your augmentations to discover their mental weaknesses, potentially even physical ones. This can judge emotional state as well. You can put two and two together to discover their traits, even recognizing signs of a different type of troubled background. These can be used to work your way out of many situations, as well as potentially assassinate or indoctrinate people.

      Detect Magic
The magus can detect magic. This means when others cast spells, or emanate high amounts of energy, you can see their aura. This also means you can detect magic in an area, meaning if an area has something magical about it, you can feel it. At expert rank, you can determine the source in an area. Each source of magic has a special signature, meaning a magus will be able to recognize the energy of a person if they are expert rank or higher.

      Death Sense
Necromancers have the keen ability to sense death. Be it something already dead, something recently dead, something about to die, etc. They will always know when ghosts are around them. This does not mean they can determine who it is nor is it able to lead them to the location of a Dead RPC they do not know about.

Axiom has never been a peaceful plane of existence. From the dawning of humanity blood has shed. Nations are built upon the graves of soldiers and the battlefield is never dry. The necromancer can feel the souls of the dead vying to avenge themselves. By seeping their energy in to the ground they are able to revive these hordes of skeletal warriors. For D-rank energy 5 skeleton warriors are summoned. For C-rank energy 20 skeleton warriors are summoned. For B-rank energy 35 skeleton warriors are summoned. For A-rank energy 50 skeleton warriors are summoned. For S-rank energy 100 skeleton warriors are summoned, then 150, and then 200. These skeletons can have weapons and armor, but are merely bones. Skeletons are sturdier than zombies and take reduced damage to both physical and magical attacks. Their stats are 6/6.

Well this had certainly been cute, watching undead bathe their would be enemies in blood all around her, allowing for the briefest of moments herself to simply revel in the scene. Still, there would be a lot of clean up to do after all was said and done, which would both begin and end with her. A pair of shamanistic hands rose at her sides, her own focusing a power the likes of which had been forgotten to this world. Anthing that wasn't already blood or a part of the background broke down, including the skeletons and undead minions that had been summoned, all of it becoming overwhelmed by the power of Gluttony. The now larger ocean of blood rose, removing itself from chastiefol, the necromancers, and Almira herself and formed a somewhat sizeable ball before her that seemed to block the moonlight from touching her, bathing her in a red light from the filter. She opened her mouth, drawing it in like the event horizon of a blackhole, consuming every bit of it, replenishing her energy and satisfying her, even if only for precious moments. She spoke of destiny, he of an alliance. She only imagined that would lead to her sharing power, food and drink alike. In the back of her mind she imagined simply feasting on them as well and leaving would be preferred. But that was short sighted. Bringing a meal forward worthy of Gluttony would require allies assuredly, and as was her sin to do so she would do whatever necessary to slake the eternal thirst. "An alliance. Perhaps this would be suitable for the Sin of Gluttony. I must make something clear, by deathly friends," she said moving in a black mist to where the Count had stood previously, looking out on the abode clear of anything but the decor now that she had consumed all. "You see desire's got a real funny flavor. And I have tastes that aren't so easily pacified darlings. I seek more than simple nourishment, I seek to devour everything this world has to offer. Blood, wine, knowledge... power. I will devour it all, starting with what this place can offer me. When I have seen to this places every inch I will make it a base of sorts, a home among the wastes if you will. And then I move eastwards in my quest for domination and satisfaction. If you wish to join me in my campaign you are welcome to come aboard as my crew, to live here in Crasta Granak," she spoke, and perhaps for the first time they would pick up on the somewhat thick demonica that laced her words with her accent. Casa de Castle of Gluttony. "Countess Almira has a nice ring to it, wouldn't you say," she would call seeing that dusk was reaching the it's highest point.

                                                                ""

My tail swished back and forth to keep me bobbing above the surface of the water. I could feel Cypress' eyes glowering at the island before us. He must have been here before in the past, maybe he even fought a battle? Before I could ask the sound of bone sliding over bone surrounded me. It was weightless against me, but I knew his wings were spreading. Drops of water rained down on either side as his cold azure energy draped down and solidified. "Ooookay here we go then! What's this place even called?" It took one powerful swing and the sea directly beneath me parted. Looking down I watched my tail fins enshroud themselves in magic and begin to separate. It's always so cool! Honestly, I don't even remember the last time I even had actual legs! The dragon-tail wrapped tightly around my torso to give me a comfortable way to fly. With spear in hand we approached, me with a smile and Cypress with his usual angry self. "In my day it was called Ravenloft. A foul man lived here, depraved, with an ego larger than even mine. Once I did battle with him. There was little left after that. Looks like they've rebuilt." I had stopped listening a bit ago. What even was this feeling coursing through my body. Frantically I clutched my hands to my chest, knuckles going white against the haft of my spear. The more I looked down to the choppy waters the more I felt like my stomach was trying to forcefully detach itself from me. ''Vertigo, just don't close your eyes.' I closed my eyes. Bile that was once dinner surged upward and threatened to expel itself from my body. I wanted to cry out for Cypress to land but that would have been the end of me. Instead I forced my eyes open and looked only to the skies above.

Huh. How weird. This wasn't my first time seeing the sky from atop the surface. I just never saw the skies so clearly.

With patient silence Cypress tilted his skeletal wings and brought us further away from the only home I've ever known. I almost had to shield my eyes looking at the moon. It was so damn big, bigger than even the turtle titans I've seen in the deeper trenches of Los Anthos. My eyes must have been so wide, I knew I had that bewildered fish out of water look to me. "Have you ever seen anything so bright?!" I exclaimed, getting a little bravery back from being at awe. I reached my hand out and squinted my eyes til it looked like I could just pluck it out of the sky. "Yes, the sun." I laughed, a big boisterous laugh that always made Cypress mentally shake his head at me. "No but I mean like, at night!" Harumph was always a deadly accurate description of what my friend sounded like when he became annoyed.

On a whim the dragolich descended, encircling the castle once more before skirting the edges of the water. Sticking my tongue out of my mouth I playfully kicked my legs out to splash as much as I could upward. Sensing my intent Cypress dipped and dodged along with me, reading me perfectly to achieve maximum wave generation. Sometimes this old bone on the mud could let loose and let his hair flow in the currant. We fast-approached the only door entrance we could spot from this range, spilling out the ocean's water on to the steps. I skid to a halt in front of the door and let out a low whistle. "Reminds me of the palace! Only stonier, ya'know, no coral." Cypress settled his form and let the glow die down, reverting to his preferred armor form. We liked to do this so that no one expected a freaking dragon to awaken on my back and join the fight. It was always a kicker to see the surprise on their faces. Reaching my hand up, I did the only thing I could think of and knocked. "Hello, I'd like to talk to you about my lady and savior, Kaminae." I whispered the words to myself a few times so I wouldn't mess up when I really had to say it. Once I was confident i wouldn't muck it up I slapped my biggest smile on my face and waited.

                                                                              Passives
                                                                              • Seashores
The Mer are hyper-aware of everything around them, their five senses deeply active. They feel the light touching their shoulder, the running about of the small creatures, everything. They're very perceptive, moreso than most races. Furthermore, when listening through a conch (many Mer carry one everywhere), they can hear things for two kilometers around them.

                                                                              • The Deep Blue
Water, blessed by Kaminae, lives to do battle for you. You can manipulate it very precisely, and water manipulated by you is stronger than steal at base. Mer armor and weapons are made of water, and they weigh almost nothing, yet defend better than the armor of others, and attack better than any other spear. The water can indeed slice as if it were a blade, defend as if a shield even in liquid form. Specifically, this hardness scales with the energy you put into it:
                                                                              Novice - Titanium

The amount of water you can manipulate also increases with rank:

                                                                              Novice - 100 Gallons

The water you are manipulating in its entirety retains that hardness, and the energy buffing the water lasts for four posts.

                                                                              Technique

It wasn't hard to hear the wingbeats in the sky above her Castle. Almira was largely uninterested in whatever it was the source of that noise was, far more interesting was the books scattered around her study, the ones she'd touch and then steal all of the pages worth in knowledge away before sitting down and reflecting on what she had gained. Knowledge was nothing with the ability to understand it, and nothing still without the ability to implement what she knew so she slowly worked her way through what seemed to her like an ocean of material. Today's lessons were mostly about history and religions affect on what people think is common knowledge. How fitting it is that one such as her soon to be companion would come along just as she finished her lesson.

The truth of a plethora of stories throughout history seemed to point to an old saying being completely true: history is, indeed, written by the victor. Some stories don't even make it into the books. In some more religiously charged volumes of Vaetinism, the kind written in Old Time Demonica, Zachariah wasn't even recorded as a fallen angel, stolen from grace. In such tales, he is a demon through and through, born of fire and brimstone or from the hatred and vile actions done in the war against heaven. Likewise, some newer Vangelist documentation refutes that Zachariah ever even existed. His death, and subsequent erasure from the religious texts in the east, few as they are, taught a harsh lesson. Almira, practicing her Angelica writing, seemed particularly enamored by the minds of religious zealots to any who could see her thoughts when in truth, she was just enjoying the meal of knowledge she'd consumed. A story telling of Astheroth sat atop a new stack of books, beside it a lesson in the history of the east. So much reading. She was, predictably, a busy girl.

And also she was avoiding her coven, petitioning to come live in the castle to escape the affairs in nocturne. The alst thing she needed was a group of vampires older than her crimping her style.

It was Oroborous who alerted her to the fact that whoever it was that was out there splashing in the waters and talking to her charge. She joined him, holding his weapon as always and looking down from the balcony. Almira said nothing as the girl practiced her line, though when she mentioned Kaminae Almira looked confused at Oroborous, who had already began to turn black, morphing in shape to match Almira's shadow. The sin licked her lips, thinking to the last time she had Mer on her tongue... and then became aware that it had been a while since she fed. Her body became a swarm of bats, echo locating with squeals and screeches as they dove towards a Lion statue aside the stairs, and just behind the girl. Red eyes sized the girl up with a vertical flick of the orbs, and the ruby crystals betrayed her intent. Crossing her legs and adjusting the flower in her hair, Almira let that heart stealing smile glow as brightly as the moon.

"The dead sea witch? It was my understanding that she didn't do much saving, not as much saving as wiping out people who didn't conform anyway. I'm the Countess of this place. What brings such a beauty to my castle, clad in shining armor no less. My nose tells me Mer, no?" She asked with a somehow endearing accent reminiscent of Demonica and yet not so lacking in the harshness of the guttural language. An eye brow rose as she awaited her reply, and her mind brought forth a great many facts about the sea-people. From what she knew of them, they all, at one point, were subjugated by Kaminae, and this would obviously lead to a great many of them feeling as though she was a true, loving god. One who should be revered, not hunted by the OG godslayers, one of whom would eventually replace her as the Sea Goddess. What was strange was that this girl seemed not to have the knowledge that Kaminae was the bad guy. Mer did tend to see the world through a sort of cyan-colored lens, making everything look bright. Even Maria is recorded to have been particularly bubbly and she was known for her position as worldly a** kicker. That, compounded with natural curiosity would create a fairly naive race.

Almira so wished vampires weren't so cynnical and edgy all of the time. Even she, with her castle full of subjects and an entire coven prepared to move at her whim across the great ocean saw the world in a starkly different manner. perhaps the only commonality between Almira and a Mer was inborn curiosity. In her mouth pressure began to build above her incisors... her tattoo burned on her neck. She kept her smile a closed mouthed one.

                                            Regeneration
This is passive meaning it does it on its own. At different ranks you may regenerate your wounds. Trainees can only deal with cuts, by novice deep cuts, Adept rank you wont bother with a broken bone, masters can deal with an entire sword going through your body, and you can deal with a removed arm or leg, as well as internal damage to the organs.

                                            Telepathy
A skill that simply allows vampires to communicate with other vampires or those they have bitten within a week, letting them discuss strategy or simply have a discussion. The range of how far one must be from the other is vast, to be able to communicate one must be within the same country as the target. However, to be able to speak with them they must know each other. In the case of a progeny and a creator, they can talk to each other from across the world. The creator can also physically effect their progenies from anywhere, making them feel a longing to come to the one who turned them.

                                            The Rite of Blood
Upon obtaining expert rank, you may use this ability only twice, so choose wisely. If someone has died and not yet rotted completely, you may bring them back as a vampire. The ritual is simple; shove a liter of blood down their throat, and then bring them somewhere with no light. Not even moonlight. If this is done before rotting gets too grim, after a few hours they'll rise up, as your progeny. Being a progeny has benefits and losses. The one who turned you into a vampire will always feel the desire to protect you, and will not do harm onto you. Similarly, you will feel the same protective instinct, preventing you from harming them as well. You literally can't find it within you to hurt them. The one who turned you can get you used to being a vampire; to the life of bloodlust, avoiding the sun, whatnot. However, you will always be connected to them in a way some may not like. Their words will influence you, and greatly. While they cannot simply 'command' you, they can make you want to do things that you wouldn't ordinarily do, and could almost certainly make you do things that you would ordinarily do. You want to impress them. They're like your rolemodel, and your mind can fall under the mercy of their will. This is the benefit of owning a progeny.

                                            • Every knight has the ability to ignore pain in battle, even ignoring the pain of severed limbs for a certain amount of time.

If the barrier is one rank below them, they can stagger the opponent with just sheer force, causing them to be so distracted with their next post that only one skill can be used.

The chittering of some sort of creatures startled me. They didn't sound like anything I could place so as my ears perked up to connect the noise with its creator I looked skyward towards its point of origin. "Bats. Cypress' voice echoed in my head and I nodded affirmatively as if I had known that all along. I've only read about these things, never actually seen one in person and now there was a whole herd of them! Or pack, not sure. "Swarm." Right. I took a step or two back when they began to coalesce in to a single location, dark energy billowing throughout them until it became too dark to see. Then, a lady stepped out. "Wow! You can turn in to bats, I can turn in to a fish! What a world." I clapped to signal my enthusiasm, in case my wide smile and bright eyes didn't already portray it. Before I could step forward and ask if she would talk to me about Lady Kaminae, she started talking to me about Lady Kaminae. I didn't hide my sadness at her understanding of the subject. So far that was pretty much the response I got. Wasn't there a single person in this whole dang world who knew any different aside from me? "It's a big plane, Naëal. You'll find someone." Cypress was right. I seriously couldn't be the only one.

Countess. Oh right! Remembering my court manners I gave a deep and theatrical vow. "Well excuse my lapse there. Hi, nice to meet you Countess Miss lady. You would be absolutely correct in guessing I am a Mer. Is- Do I smell like fish?" Oh lord tell me I didn't actually smell like fish. Turning my head I took in a deep breath, but the spray of the sea was more than overwhelming. I shrugged, hoping that maybe if I took another step back she wouldn't be able to notice it as much. "This was the first place I saw on the surface. Ever. I just wanna get out and, you know, see things. And there are so many things to see here, all sorts of things I've never see-" "Rambling." My mouth clicked shut with an audible noise. The lady up close seemed strange to me. I thought humans were lively creatures? This one appeared, well dead. Her skin was pale, a white pearl fresh out of a clam. She didn't move like others did. Slight twitches, shifting weight, constant breathing. "The word you're looking for is Vampire. They drink blood to sustain a likeness of life. Do not trust her, the last lord of this castle was the same. I'm willing to bet she had something to do with his end. All their kind are alike. Devious, manipulative, and ever hungry. You'll only fall prey." An incredulous look crossed my face and I snorted.

If I chose to listen to Cypress and say good bye right now to the Countess then I would be exactly like all those people who say Kaminae was nothing more than an evil tyrant, using the Mer as playthings and tools. Though, the way she was just smiling at me did kind of make me feel like I was being sized up for something. So I moved in a small circle, turning my eyes to the curious architecture. "Are you some kind of high royalty? Or does everyone get a castle up here?" I walked up to the front doors and pressed my hands against the cool wood, turning back to give an inquisitive look to the Countess. With child-like abandon I asked a question. "Do you have a throne?" There were so many questions I had for this lady. She seemed to know some stuff, definitely more than I did about this place and all its inhabitants. I'm thinking I'll consider this my first stop on my journey.

A perceptive eye saw the sadness in the girl, and it was one she understood. She truly did believe Kaminae was the best thing since sliced bread eh? Touchy subject then, one Almira would tip toe around unless the girl said something so blatantly dense that she couldn't hold back. She wasn't one to go after people for their choice of religion; hence the Mazdakii symbols, ones specifically to Alistair, pinned on the woman's cape, just below where the collar rose around her cheek. Worship was not her strong suit, and she only subscribed because she agreed with them on a rudimentary level. Gods above and demons below be damned. None of them ever did s**t for her besides cause indirect, and still standing, problems. If the mer before her chose to worship a dead goddess, what business was that of hers? And as her studies for the day had reminded her, not everyone told the whole story. Her raised brow returned level with the other one as she rotated a heeled foot absent mindedly. However a small giggle had escaped the Elder's throat when the girl said she could turn into a fish.

She bowed and Almira hid her swelling pride by falling with instilled grace, and bowing herself. "No, no, Call me Almira, please." she offered befroe calling on her bottomless pit of knowledge and speaking to her with that crackling intelligence in the woman's own native tongue. "Seramythas." Nice to meet you. She would raise again, taking a deep inhale at the question she was posed. "No, dear. I'm a vampire. You smell less like fish and more like... more like what I can only accurately describe as a briny curiosity." She smiled, a single fang now too pointed to be hidden though Almira was showing no signs of hostility. She listened to the woman go on about her first time on the surface and Orobouros spoke to her in the back of her mind. "It is most unfortunate that she washed up in such times." Mentally, Almira rolled her eyes. Almira turned quickly in a motion too smooth and direct to be human and walked to the door of the Castle, large and gaudy, needlessly so in fact. A single hand pushed on the door, easily triple her size or more, and shoved them wide open. "I am... well it's hard to pinpoint what I am, Miss Mer. I am the leader of a Coven, but I also inherited this castle after it's former master came to an untimely end after making an attempt on my life, as well as a couple of friends I have not seen in a while." As servants came to the door almost immediately, all of them somewhat lacking in color but otherwise normal looking people, smells of human, succubus and incubus on them all, Almira wondered what became of the other two. She hoped the plague hadn't hit the east yet...

"So I filled the place with living servants, mostly refugees, some I brought from Nocturne, people who don't have anything better to do. And I am also making a play to become the mayor of a small town in Amaranthine. But wait, your question. I am not high royalty, not technically, and no, not everyone get's a castle." Her tongue seemed to cut through certain words, sure fire sign of native Demonica. She looked at the Mer, holding a smirk, shook her head, platinum locks bouncing about around her tattoo and face. "No I don't have a throne... but I suppose my study would be the closest thing. Clear out!" she called out stern but emptily in a dialect of Demonica she forgot she spoke. The servants moved aside, taking whatever they were bringing away, all but a goblet of something red and sweet specifically for her. She eyed the servant who handed it to her, whom had bandaged her wrist, wrapped in gauze and medical tape. Almira seemed to motion her head one way, and the servant bowed thankfully and cleared out as Almira took a deep drink. A mer's heightened senses would pick up the scent of blood and wine in equal amoutns from the rather ornate and large cup, and otherwise a somewhat archaic smell ringing through the hall they would have been walking down by then. "So, do you have even the slightest inkling as to where you want to go? What you wish to do? I have a great wealth of knowledge of wordly affairs, and historical knowledge as well." Another light push shoved in a pair of doors leading into a library, books thrown everywhere. She sighed, weaving shadows with one hand, and the aid of Orobouros aking no shape but weaving his form with her to maneuver books to proper places as she walked, clearing a way for her new friend, as well as bringing apair of seats near a fireplace, where they could converse and the mer could be warm. "Oh, and your name?" she'd ask finally.

I couldn't help but get excited hearing my native tongue spoken to me so far from home. I hopped up a little and fluttered my hands out of excitement. "Seramythaas!" I chimed back, bouncing from my left foot to my right foot. Then, in Meritian I questioned Almira. "You speak it well, have you ever been to Los Anthos?" Curiosity beamed from every one of my features and I couldn't really hide it. Rarely were other races granted entry to the undersea cities. Even if they somehow convinced one of the chiefs to allow them a visit there was no guarantee that the next tribe over would be as accommodating. I got lucky being chosen at birth to become one of Kaminae's honored guard. I may have never even gotten the chance to see some of these strangers. Diplomats from across the world came, pleading with my Lady to open her waters or cease her attacks from the sea. More often than not those people were turned away, or put to death.

I decided not to move out of her way, letting her brush past me while I sneaked in a secret sniff. She even smelled pretty, it was weird. Scents were so much stronger now, like I was using my snoot for the first time. This right here was the first unsalted look I was getting of the topside. My eyes were everywhere. "Gaze forward, Naëal. There are far more interesting things to see above her waistline." Snapping my head up I stopped in shock. Whoa there were like twenty guys in here just running to make sure Almira was comfortable! They even came to me and tried to shove things in my hands. People with dome-covered silver platters rushed forward and presented all sorts of delights. Rich colors and spicy aromas lit up my senses and for a second I was overwhelmed. I let my staff fa; to the floor - though I did feel Cypress' tail uncoil from my leg and catch the weapon - and reached for everything. I shoveled morsel after morsel, not knowing or caring of the ingredients nor origins of each piece. Oh man oh man, I was barely containing myself. Cheeks puffing out due to over stocking, I swallowed as much as I could with as little mess as possible. "A mayor? Wow I didn't take you for the politic type. Most of the royals I knew lounged about and partied all the time. I kinda just expected you would too. This place would be great for a party, like a masquerade or something!" Panic flashed across my face when with a command Almira sent the people away. I lashed out and collected as many of those tiny puffy deserts as possible before the lids were replaced and we were moving onward.

Cradling the goods to my chest I trailed behind the Countess in to her study. "Oh wow!" Crumbs spilled out from my mouth and I scrambled to catch them before they hit the plush carpet below me. "Swallow before you speak, don't be nasty. You've decided to wander in to her lair, now you are a guest. May as well be polite." I swallowed painfully and coughed to clear my throat. I took the seat opposite of Almira and tossed myself in to it, sinking in to the evidently expensive chair being carried through the air by some shadows. I figured she had a power like mine, maybe a friend who helped her when you asked nicely. While she spoke I tried to eat eloquently. I felt a bit sheepish knowing how I would answer. How do I explain that I don't really anything about the going-ons of the surface world? Down where its wetter stuff like that didn't really matter. We're so isolated yet in this vast realm of existence few have ever seen it in its entirety. A mer could spend their entire life underwater and there would still be things to see. Each reef could have colors never perceived before, or maybe the deepest trench hasn't even been discovered. Why even leave when there were just so many interesting things to do? "Oh yeah totally know where I'm going. Totally." I waved it off and snorted derisively as if that should have been obvious all along. "I'm going to the nation of Amaril. I hear that the guy who runs the place was apart of the team who ki-" Even now it was hard for me to say. My voice faltered slightly but I think I recovered smoothly. "Killed Kaminae." I sat there with a smile on my face for a second. "It's Aramil." What? That's what I said, wasn't it?

My name? I really didn't know how to introduce myself. I bit my lip softly while I pondered this. I guess I was just Naëal now. My family disowned me when I chose to leave them and see the world. They warned me that nothing good would come of this, that I need to stay and honor Kaminae's death by working to strengthen the Mer once more. But I already had nineteen years of that. It hit me then, and a I couldn't help but smile. "I am Naëal Analei." It was my my grandmothers name, and I know she would have appreciated it. She had always told me that I didn't have to be someone's weapon, a tool for use when needed. I could always go wherever the currant took me. Well I did take her advice. Just a few years too late. I shrugged my shoulders and leaned forward, letting my waves of golden hair fall forward. With deft fingers I pulled a part the braid, knowing it had gotten loose during my unplanned flight with Cypress. "He's probably a busy guy though, so I doubt I'd get an audience. Besides, I thing where the elves live would be cool to see. From what I know, Maria Kal called it home at one time." That felt weird. What was this burning drive I had in me propelling me to seek out this woman? I stirred in my chair, uncomfortable that I had actually let that slip.

"To Los Anthos? No, I am not so inclined towards the waters," she replied in Meritian and let her continue speaking.

Almira giggled like someone playing a melody on a harp when the girl, correctly, asserted that politics weren't really her thing. She, however decided to reserve that story for another time. Especially considering she wasn't yet rid of the only obstacle to her actually holding absolute power there. She'd also rather not slip and let free that the only reason she WAS involved was because she'd gain power out of the situation, and she had that oh so dangerous inborn ambition amplified by her status as the sin of gluttony. Where she was sitting, and the way she'd been wearing her hair, Almira's telling tattoo seemed tauntingly present to those who looked and knew what the ocean blue imprint on her skin foretold. Almira drank from her goblet, watching as the most volatile of elements danced to it's own tune. A small exertion of her power darkened the flame, causing it to rise a little and the heat to become a tad bit greater. The Countess unhooked her cape, letting it lazily fall over the chair and leaned on an empty hand, looking at the girl, watching her as she spoke. "It's been host to plenty of gatherings since I became the Countess here, actually," she spoke, holding the conversation in Meritian mostly to test herself. She was happy that the girl could enjoy the food that was brough out. She ate it mostly of curiosity, rarely of desire.

Kaminae was apparently a sour ntoe for the girl, which struck Almira as odd for the second time. The girl wanted to meet King Akeem? That was interesting. Well... with her seeming lack of understanding of the situation... possibly dangerous. "Aramil, you mean." Almira corrected before a sip of the wine again. "Naeal Analei. A pretty name. The Elves live all the way across the great Ocean, opposite way you came from likely. The Country is called Kranilla. It's the greenest place above sea level, and filled with the beasts of land. They call the capital city Kusana. During her time there, Maria created a sort of rough tolerance between the humans, elves, djinn and even the winged narcissists from heaven. Kevai was largely the better for it, even if she was absent in all of her campaigns against the gods... eventually taking her spot among them. 'Protector of the Plane.' So much for that. THe west is in disarray right now. A plauge is running amok through all of Kevai, born of unknown circumstances." Almira crossed one leg over the other and fell to a stoney stillness, only the wines movement more than that of a shadow as she pondered. An eerie and awkward silence followed before she spoke up again. "Nocturne, too, is in shambles to the north. War for the crown, a game of thrones with assassins of kings near and far. Fraxon is in the midst of a religious upheaval tearing the city apart less literally. It's all a really big headache. However, my followers and I stay here, isolated in my Crasta Granak, or Castle of Gluttony as your tongue would know it, until someone gets some semblance of order. Raphael, the god of such a thing, seems extrmely lacking in his handling of the situation. Sorry, I've begun to ramble. If Kranila or Aramil is your aim, then I don't suppose I could set you loose alone." Her offer would come matter of factly, and almost as if there was no denying her company. It was about time she got off of her a**. The books had held her attention long enough, and there was a whole world to consume still waiting for her. Where they went would depend largely upon the girl's wishes.

My eyes grew wide in a kind of reverence at the sheer amount of stuff floating around in Almira's head. There was no way I'd be able to remember all these names and places, luckily I knew that Cypress was listening just the same. He had grown silent in my mind, choosing to absorb as much information as possible. That was his forte, so I wasn't too worried about not soaking everything in at once. I could just ask him to give me a play by play later. Still, it was impressive. A ripple in the fire caught my eyes, earning a sideways glance. It felt good in here, comfortable and quiet. I couldn't help but wonder why someone who had no pulse would need half of these things. Did Almira's butt feel the difference between stone and lush cushion? Would it matter if it was freezing in here? Flickering my gaze back I refocused, remembering to mind my manners.

Watching Almira speak I got the sense that this was what she loved to do. There wouldn't be so many books towering over me if that wasn't the case. The way her lips formed stories and painted the images of these places, how she didn't stutter or falter with the facts. It actually took me a second to realize things were not okay. A plague? War? Religious unrest? I stirred uncomfortably in my seat. I had the same feeling you'd get if you were at a friends house and their parents started yelling at them. Just plain awkward. I had to resist the urge to laugh, really bad. I tightened my grip on the arms of the chair and adjusted my position. It wasn't that I found any of this funny. Well maybe a little. All the death sucked for sure, it was just so odd to see how bad everyone was doing now. Deep down in the ocean you kind of ended up living in a bubble. Literally and not literally. Things were usually pretty okay. They had been their best under Kaminae and for awhile after it had been a little rocky I'll admit. But us Mer did what Mer do best. Move on and live life. Most of us at least.

A silence fell between us and I felt a nervous giggle rising up again. Instead I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind. "You sure do know a lot for someone who lives on a rock in the middle of the ocean." I could feel Cypress mentally shaking his head at me, the blush that followed was unrelenting. I quickly took to rebraiding my hair, averting my eyes as Almira's cape fell to the floor. Something gaudy peaked my interest. A bright tattoo in such a bright color compared to everything else. I tilted my head to the side to better examine it, some kind of spooky face? No judgment here, but something about that horned guy gave me the willies. Distracted by the offer of company my excitement got the better of me. "Oh wow! You're coming? I can swim very fast so it shouldn't be a problem getting across the ocean. I guess I could carry you on my back or something. Though, you probably have like a boat or something. Because you're so rich." Derp. Of course Almira had a way to travel to and fro. It wouldn't be wise to settle in a castle so secluded without some means of making it to the lands around. I felt my mind wandering again, considering how easy it would be for someone like her to walk around the ocean floor if she wanted. Shaking my head I pulled myself back to the conversation.

"I don't mean to be rude, like at all. You just seem kinda, profound I guess. With a head like yours I bet it would be wicked easy to show other people your way. This Raphael seems like a chump if he let things get so out of hand. Same with all those people vying for power. Why haven't you done something?" It always seemed to me that the people with the knowledge held the power. The reason Kaminae lasted so long was an incredible lack of information when it came to how exactly she drew her powers. Pieces and bits had been garnered by the Mer, mostly from people like me who were raised in proximity. Even so, her most valued subjects were never allowed to fully grasp the origin of such strength. Almira probably knew everything about the places and people in those places. She could probably do the same thing. "I bet you could make a whole city yours and name it like, Almiropolis or something." I laughed at that, unable to deny how silly it seemed. The name, not the concept. I finished with my hair just then, looping it around itself to secure it and shuffled to the edge of my seat. I was trying to decide where to go. Logic pointed to Aramil, since it was right next door. I already knew my mind was made up from the moment Almira told me about Kranila. People were all plagued and there were elves there! Maybe I could find things out about Maria, maybe I could even help with this illness. "I want to see Kusana." I scanned for acceptance from Cypress, surprised that he had remained so quiet this entire time. What was he thinking right now? He probably was super annoyed I had decided to team up with a stranger. I mean, he was usually super annoyed anyway so it wasn't a major chance. Still, I didn't want to have him upset with me. I prodded him with warmth, poking at the vast entity I was tied to mentally. He stirred and brushed back and nothing more.

They feel the light touching their shoulder, the running about of the small creatures, everything. They're very perceptive, moreso than most races. Furthermore, when listening through a conch (many Mer carry one everywhere), they can hear things for two kilometers around them.

                                                                              • The Deep Blue

You can manipulate it very precisely, and water manipulated by you is stronger than steal at base. Mer armor and weapons are made of water, and they weigh almost nothing, yet defend better than the armor of others, and attack better than any other spear. The water can indeed slice as if it were a blade, defend as if a shield even in liquid form. Specifically, this hardness scales with the energy you put into it:
                                                                              Novice - Titanium

                                                                              Novice - 100 Gallons

The water you are manipulating in its entirety retains that hardness, and the energy buffing the water lasts for four posts.

                                                                              Technique

Almira couldn't stifle the laugh that slipped out of her mouth when the girl asserted that her knowledge was a strange thing considering that she "lived on a rock in the middle of the ocean." She set the goblet of wine down on a table to the side, now empty, and within a few moments a servant came to whisk it away, off to the kitchen to be cleaned until it was to be used again. Almira spoke plainly. "In truth, my docility is mostly do to a mistake. I ordered an almost comical amount of books by accident. One pen stroke turned 60 into 600, and then my house was filled to the brim with reading material. I would like to have already been out there, exerting my power but... well I had to read them once they were here..." She shrugged, realizing her excuse wasn't the best one for stagnation but at least her brain had grown. A year of sitting still was far too much, however, and in the last few days she'd felt especially antsy.

The girl was excited that Almira was coming, and the Countess centered her rubies on the woman as she began to speak, slightly distracted by the increase in her bloodflow. She replied to her question about a boat simply. "I have a ship that could ferry me from here to the shores in the west, yes. I'd wager you have something of a seashell bond nearby? Perhaps far enough that I can't sense it but near enough in case you're in trouble?" She would point to her shadow, which morphed into the shape of a man of higher stature and then waved. "Don't worry, I have a similar friend. His name is Oroborous. Namesake is a snake that devoured itself out of hunger. I leave him alone to follow me around usually, but he is my oldest, imaginary friend-turned living one." She had digressed to create similar ground and some sort of level of trust between them through it, even if minor. More than that, she was trying to see beyond the girl's veins. If she could endear herself, then she wouldn't want to consume her. Being like an older sister to her would aid in that as well. Companionship, she found through her living shadow, was more important than she gave it credit.

"Knowledge is power, sure, but this world is more complicated than idioms and shades of black or white dear. And don't get me wrong, Raphael is a fine deity, just as any other. It just is difficult to keep a handle on the whole world with other powers working against you. It was a mer who killed the sea witch, and a demon took part in killing Zachariah, angels rallied against Elessia- these being examples of the planes inhabitants turning on those gods who sought to rule it. It is not so strange that Raphael and his ilk struggle to maintain order... especially when those who I believe to be behind the plague... and Maria's current status such as I have heard it to be, are of similar status. I haven't done something because more than Gluttony, lately Sloth has taken hold of me. Time has come for me to resume my conquest. You've ignited my fire. Almiropolis is on the horizon. First thing first, we ride for Kranilla." Following her speech, Orobouros would detach from her, taking her shadow and plenty of those in the room with him out towards the waters the way they had come. Almira motioned for the girl to follow her out, and by the time they reached the outside, a boat comparable in size to a large house had been created, complete with a crew of men, most of them bearing the symbol of Gluttony on their armor, manning the stations. "SS Oroborous, awaiting my order. Shall we?" Almira would ask leaping to stand at the helm. A pirate hat was tossed to her, placed on her head, and Almira smiled as her crew roared in applause at their commander. "Captain at the helm!" one man roared to more hearty shouting.

Almira's story had strange parallels to the time that I ended up eating the rest of a buffet after a party to ensure it didn't go to waste and past out for three days. I could understand the enthusiasm, it was hard to let things go like that. I didn't blame her. Besides it's not like she would run out of time right? Heck, the Countess could probably live to the end of days here. Especially without Kaminae to lord over the seas and decide what the tides will bring. If I had digs like this I may have been inclined to stay in the big blue. I screwed up my face a bit inwardly, knowing that wasn't true. Not even my grandma could have gotten to me, and she was the only one of the fish-faces I'd listen to anymore. I brought my hands quickly together in a clap out of excitement. Seashells! I wondered if soon I'd stop being surprised at the factoids swimming around in Almira's head. Probably not. To this day I jumped when the jack came out of the box. Of course people had heard about our bonds. So many of the heroes from the legends I was told as a child were about a mighty Mer and the companion they had raised. From tiny snails our unique connection could bring out a hundred foot sea monster. There was no scientific reason behind it, no explanation had ever been provided. I always thought it was because my friendship and love brought out the best in the creature, but now I figure it was due to our energy and some other magical malarky.

I followed Almira's finger right down to the lacquered nail and looked at the blot on the ground. A shadow? Yeah I saw her manipulating it when she was moving the chairs around and picking up the books. So this was a living creature huh. I perked up with a smile and waved my hand to Oroborous. "Man it must have sucked to be so hungry you decided to eat yourself. I never want to be that far from something to snack on." Reaching up I booped the snoot on the dragon skull armor and nodded my head affirmatively. I could just feel the disapproval oozing from Cypress. Pursing my lips I thought up a quick snatch of misleading information before just letting it out that my armor was actually a living dragon. Well, undead. Close enough! "No, we do NOT have common ground now." He had caught me in the middle of contemplating that notion. "Yeah I have one, but he's like a grumpy old man and doesn't want to come out and play." Leaning in for theatrical effect I put up a hand and whispered to Almira. "Honestly I think he's shy because you're cuter than him." Not too many people had ever called Cypress cute. Actually no one but me. Mostly because he hated it and would refuse to talk to me for a bit, which just made him cuter.

Now that I was standing for some reason it felt easier to focus. Maybe it had been the fire, and that crazy comfortable chair I was sitting on. I found myself nodding my head in unison with what Almira was saying. Things weren't always so cut and dry. For a lot of my life that had been the case though. Thinking back on it I had never made the decision to pick up a spear and learn to stab things. Given the option, I probably would have picked to be a dancer for some band or like a traveling juggler or something. The world worked better when things worked against the natural order, apparently. "Perhaps it is that the natural order seeks to right the wrongs. An angel betraying the All-Father? How surprising was it really when the rest rose up to put an end to the traitorous goddess?" Whoa. Too deep Cypress. I couldn't think about that right now, because that also meant that Kaminae was something that needed to be 'righted'. Did that also mean any innovator would be put to the blade? Sometimes people had to take steps in the wrong direction before realizing there was a better path. I was holding on to that, not all of my Lady was evil. There could be some parts, I mean I even teamed up with something initially bred from evil intent. She was judged too quickly by the world. No, despite Cypress advising against my befriending the Countess I wouldn't make the same mistake as others. It was too early to judge. Besides she fed me, and that made her alright in my book.

Yep. The ship was every bit as cool as I thought it'd be. Cypress curled his tail upward so that the spear pressed firmly against my back. I walked across the gangplank and poop-deck (haha) and took up position beside Almira. The first sailor to walk past me was immediately relived of his hat. Maybe it wasn't a pirate hat but it was something. I deposited it on top of Cypress' skull and spread my legs wide. The sensation of being in water had never bothered me. So many times I had been lulled to sleep by the gentle rocking. The sensation of being on something in the water though, that was throwing me off. This must be what people called 'land-legs'. "Ahoy yee scallawags! Set sail for Kusana! Full speed ahead so that we can plunder their booties!" I thrust my fist in to the air and firmly held what I perceived as a powerful stance. "Lord please make this trip short."
