chessiejo i was more exciting ten years ago, i had more interests, and more stuff going on in my life. oh well.... I'm still plenty exciting, and fascinated by pretty much everything, but what is really depressing is how isolated I've become. Not only is it really difficult to meet people as you get older, but the people I do meet seem really cynical and jaded. :/

I'm continually surprised that Gaia continues to live...
It's like the black knight in monty python's holy grail...
It's had its legs cut off and it's got no arms but it's still trying to put up a fight...
*shrugs*
How's everyone anyways?

Elendil Telperien I'm continually surprised that Gaia continues to live...
It's like the black knight in monty python's holy grail...
It's had its legs cut off and it's got no arms but it's still trying to put up a fight...
*shrugs*
How's everyone anyways?
in Kazantakis' Last Temptation of Christ, the Pharisees have tried to rekill Lazarus because he is an embarrassing reminder of the power of Jesus. So they cut off his arms and legs, but he is so filled with miraculous life that he hops down the road on his stumps praising God anyway. So Monty Python stole that idea.

It's a rather bleak way of looking at things though isn't it?
My children, for example, have demonstrated similar behaviour during rudimentary garden LARP activity whilst having no knowledge of Kazantakis or Monty Python...
Which one did they steal the idea from?
My guess would be neither, that the idea of being severely disabled in some way whilst still being able to continue functioning is an intrinsic part of the human psyche and that people will be independently arriving at the same amusing conclusion for years to come without having 'stolen' anything from anyone.

I come back every once in awhile to reminisce.. Has it really only been a decade? It really does feel like a life-time ago..
When I read all the familiar usernames, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling similar to seeing old friends.
I miss you all, and I hope everyone is happy and enjoying the beauties and wonders of life.. smile more! pursue your dreams! its more practical to risk than to wish! blaugh
