LotusInChains I just joined so I hope it's okay that I put in my 2 cents here! If your goal is to get fit-to be healthier, I feel it starts with knowledge. Knowledge and countless tiny decisions! First, know where you stand. The best way to do this is track what you are eating. This is the site I've used: My Fitness Pal It's free and really helpful with populating nutritional info. This helps you: -Be aware of what, how often and how much you're eating. Sometimes just being aware helps, as does being accountable (even if its just to yourself). -To learn about the nutritional value of what you're eating. You may be surprised by how unhealthy or healthy what you actually eat is. -Get in the habit of reading nutritional info. From the grocery store to the kitchen, this helps what finally ends up on your plate. There is so much more to say, along each step of your journey, but this is just to get started. And food-I love food! I'd be happy to share recipes and meal ideas-just let me know what kinds of things you like. As for physical activity-I've never been strong there. lol. But I used the "10 minutes, 3 times a day" thing as a bare minimum. And included anything physical-walking, dancing, housework, etc. YUS everything here is dead on.

Green_crayon42 The yoga site requires money. sad I really wish I had control over my own money. But noooooo. I'm hoping for one that can play over my phone that maybe I can remember. you tube has basic yoga videos and ther eis also something called the couch to 5k running app .. i am not a runner but i would jog when it says run or jog.. my problem was staying with it.. as with all of my issues of a routine or time sweatdrop BUT I am in the same boat you are and I NEED to do something.. i am finding it hard to do simple things i used to do sweatdrop

How do you feel-anything feel different? What kinds of things have you tried? Both successfully and unsuccessfully? no. I've cut sodas and replaced them with Golden Peak Tea, skinny girl waters and vitamin waters. I live on the 3rd floor of my building. I've been going up and down the stairs 10 times (done that twice) but my knee doesn't like it. I've been in a hip hop dance class twice. My knee doesn't like the jumping but I do what it allows. As long as I'm covered in sweat, I feel like I did something. When I see my sisters, I'll have to ask for thier help in doing stuff. But other then my knee being a b***h, I think I did pretty wonderful so far.

I would agree with pretty wonderful! 3nodding
Any effort is a win. And if you stumble or get off track, don't let that be a reason to give up. Every single time you find yourself on the edge of "should I really do this" and "why bother"- DO IT. Keep moving forward. Even if "why bother" wins a battle, don't let it win the war.
Cutting out soda is huge! Make sure to check the labels on those other drinks.
In addition, still drink your 8 unprocessed cups of water a day. More if you can handle. It makes a huge difference! If you're not getting enough water, you'll feel/be bloaty. That's your body panicking and thinking it's going to die of dehydration. Once your body gets used to the regular intake of water, it'll let it go. Yes, there would be the initial loss of water weight-but more importantly, your body will be more healthy.

Hooray, we have the same goal! I started about two months ago and I have shed about fifteen pounds. 4laugh Here is what has worked for me.
#1. WATER. WATER WATER WATER. Drink it, young palawan. Add flavouring to it, drink it plain, whatever. Just drink it. If you are cutting out sodas, replace them with water. I used to drink about three or four cans of pop a day. I decided to cut it completely and replace with water. Not only do you feel much more hydrated, it's good for your body and is the best way to help shed pounds.
#2. Portion control. One of the things foreigners find most appalling about North American culture is how large our portions are. We think we are eating just one meal but the reality is we have 3-4 portions of the food groups on our plate. The best thing to do is to try and reduce that. I am not terribly controlling as to what I eat exactly (I do not count calories nor have I cut out any food that I enjoy), but gigantic portions are unnecessary.
#3. Exercise. Some people say it is not as important as food but I would wholeheartedly disagree. Exercise is how you burn calories. For me exercise is easy to achieve because my workplace is four kilometres away from my house. So in total I walk eight kilometres in a day there and back (approx. two hours of walking), not including the walking I do for eight hours at work as a housekeeper. I also have access to my workplaces gymnasium and pool, which is a great perk for me. But it is absolutely important to exercise. The key is finding what kind of exercise you enjoy so it does not feel like a chore. When I was younger I played a lot of Dance Dance Revolution. Some people enjoy yoga, others enjoy kickboxing, some prefer to swim, others would rather go for a leisurely stroll. Whatever. Just do it for at least thirty minutes a day.
Another thing I do want to add is that to keep myself in a healthy mindset I do not weigh myself often. Because the true reality is is that it does not really matter. When you build muscle and get more toned you add on pounds. Someone can be 300lbs and be completely jacked, and another person can be 300lbs and have unhealthy fat distribution. You height is also another factor. So don't focus completely on the numbers because it can take you to a bad place. Your body will change gradually and if you are happy with the way it looks that's the important thing.
