Located about half a day's walk to the west of Sedem, Yrimin Forest is a popular location for hunters and foragers, with much of the wild game consumed in Sedem being hunted here. Small game is plentiful, but over hunting has cut the population of large game drastically, resulting in some protesting the hunting of large game except during specific times of the year, when the population hits it's peak. Thus, while it may be tempting to capture the elusive elk of Yrimin, it's best to be wary of who might be hunting you in return.

Daeron Lassyaian

After spending the night resting just a few miles outside of the valley which contained his birth home of Aipio Yomenië, Daeron found himself after a rather leisurely morning hike at an opening to Yrimin Forest most hunters from the Plum Tree Gathering used. He himself had traversed this area quite a few times with friends and classmates alike sizing each other up as far as skill went, however this was the first time he'd come this way not just unaccompanied, but just as well without the intention of necessarily returning to Aipio Yomenië.

The youthful elf had studied well the different areas of the Vasilikan region open to him to explore, at least comfortably. Of those studied, there were three distinct areas he felt were not the best choice at this time, if anything for social reasons. Running the lithe fingers of his right hand across the colored and stitched plum on his satchel as he walked into the woods of the forest, they lingered lower just under the crest of his large village to his name, written elegantly in his native tongue in gold. Breathing in deeply only to breathe out in the same manner, the small gesture calmed him a bit as he continued forward steadfast in his pursuit.

One might wonder just what an elf of rather decent means in his own community would pursue in these woods, but for Daeron the question was easy to answer for one who knew him. You see Daeron, dabbling in the art of mixing and creating potions, was attempting what most regarded as a lofty goal. The first step in this goal of his however? The ability to not only recognize valuable plants and differentiate between species that were close in look feel and texture, but to be able to use these ingredients to create the perfect potion. The perfect potion for any race by height, weight, even gender. Yes, Daeron was ambitious. One had to be in elven society, especially if you claimed to wish to become a potion master.

Enter from Kuldar Tor

Nocturne knew the way out of town easily enough. He had the leaving part down pat. However, er..., after leaving the town was... well... Nocturne knew where a good mining town was. To be exact, the elves of Quilda Celeth were known for their mineral rich mines, and he had decided that this would be where he and Lorena would travel to first. See if she liked it there, or if she would rather find somewhere else to train her trade.

However, and this is how many of Nocturne's best tales start, he got lost rather quickly. In fact, at the first crossroads, he'd chosen the wrong direction. The human, evidently, had a horrible sense of direction, which Lorena may or may not have already known about. Anyways, he didn't seem the least bit perturbed by it, and if Lorena had asked him any time during this trip if they were lost, he would've responded with the positive quite flippantly, following it up with assurance, "We'll be fiiiiiine. Don't worry about it. We'll get where we need to eventually, or find something even better."

As of right now, dwarf and human were off the beaten path, trail-blazing through a forest filled with life because, as Nocturne put it, "We're already lost. Let's see what's there?" and after one thing led to another, the road had been lost as well. Animals, even if they hid carefully so they couldn't be seen, certainly could be heard. Not just animals, either. The sounds of a distant hunt would also echo through the forest. Although, no human crossed their paths.

Lorena

Paranoid, that's what it was all about. Upon seeing the same tree formation thrice, and the occasional recognizable tree or so, the dwarf was getting a sort of wander sickness of sorts. Thinking to herself that were they lost or simply in a forest of angry spirits. She was quiet on most of the trek out of the town, her usual social self stunted and attention more on thinking but after awhile the dwarf piped up about just where or what was going on, only reassured with an uppity almost beaming reply, or laced with all sorts of sarcasm she couldn't make heads or tails of the man's reply at all. So, she fell silent again but kept her attention acute then to every little detail.

"Yeh, I doubt you know where we are Knocky. She finally said after they passed the same rock a fourth time. Irritably, she stopped for a moment and picked a tree sapling, scanning it with her eyes and reached up to snap off three branches half way. Then she picked up a small rock with a pointed edge and went to a tree with a larger girth and chalked a crude X into its bark and tossed the thing aside.

"Just so I clearly know if we pass this spot again." She sighed which he simply replied that they were already lost and suggested to see what was out there.

Lorena breathed out a long sigh, but didn't object. " Walk a straight line then. Pick a direction, yeh?"

And so the misadventure soon turned from lost to flippin' mental mazes of where in Mundus was everything? The forest grew thicker and thicker when they kept moving on and much to her annoyance had to break whatever branches that got in her way or get thwacked by ones as Noc lead ahead. The good news was that she wasn't seeing the same thing twice, the bad was it wasn't doing that much better as it got deeper and deeper into whatever insect infested hell this was.

I regret leaving today. She mused to herself but trudged along a possible new trail they both created, and of course another thwack from a branch was inevitable at some point. Whatever divine, grant this human extraordinary cardinal senses. Please.

Eyes were upon Nocturne and Lorena as soon as they entered the forest. Prying Elven eyes watching their glade, new defenders of the wood, and these were the first intruders that they had encountered. Intruders were too common now. Had been since the Humans created Sedem, and they'd steadily grown in number. Now even Dwarves dared to enter the forest. However, many treaties had been signed to give safe passage so long as no one harmed the forest by over foraging, or over hunting the game. four sets of eyes watched the two who entered, while four more sets kept look out for more. The canopy was where they resided, painted and marked, wearing leaves, bark, and vines as though it were clothing, blending in to the foliage almost as if they were part of the trees themselves.

They watched and listened as Nocturne spoke, and moved about, taking in every movement and word. Some of the elves silently scoffed. Typical Human. Lost already. Can't tell the trees apart. Simpleton. Meanwhile, some of the more explored elves knew that simply because Nocturne was a human didn't mean that he couldn't find his path, and instead figured that Nocturne just couldn't find his way around.

The elves who watched Lorena held back a hiss as she scarred the tree. They seemed to slide silently down the trees, Two of them, reaching the ground behind Lorena. "Why have you scarred the forest?" One said, staring directly at Lorena. "What reason do you have to cause the Forest pain?" The other said, staring at Lorena as well. These two were tasked with watching Lorena, which is exactly what they were doing. They were wiry figures, one female, one male. The Female had hair the color of sunbeams, that rested, tasseled and braided on her head, covering one of her eyes. sticks and leaves decorated her hair, seemingly random, but against the foliage, it looked almost perfect considering her hair color to imitate sunlight filtering through the trees. The Male however was completely bald, possibly shaven, but he was painted to appear like a shadow, dark colors and bark adorned his body.

The others in the trees remained motionless, looking on to see what the intruders would do. They made no noises, their breathing almost silent, someone would need the ability to hear almost silent sounds to be able to tell they were in the trees.

"Waoh!" Nocturne exclaimed, half surprised and half impressed, . Not letting the fact that this was basically an ambush get him down, Nocturne decided to look at the bright side of things, "Great! You two must know this forest well, right? Not to mention, you're elves! Could you maybe point us in the direction of Quilda Celeth? My friend is an aspiring blacksmith and I would very much like to show her the rich mines of the elves. I'm not sure if you've been watching long enough, but we're sort of lost. I was just about to give up and make my way to Dam Rock in the hopes that someone else might visit it and help lead us out of this forest at least."

He was genuinely excited and relieved, but at the same time, his mind had not completely let go of the danger he and Lorena could be in. While Nocturne's eyes did not wander and remained focused on the visible pair of elves, his mind did not forget the chance that there could be others watching from the shadows. He could not know if they were there or not, much like he hadn't even noticed these two existed until they popped up in front of him.

In an effort to minimize any chances of creating enemies, Nocturne stepped forwards and slightly to whatever side of his Lorena was as he spoke. It would just look like a show of eagerness, and it partially was, but Nocturne was also trying to inconspicuously step between Lorena and elves in an effort to prevent any angry outburst she might have.

Lorena

She hated the woods, forest, mud and just about everything that was going on right then. Too short too see ahead of the human leading her on the winding goose chase, and too annoyed to notice that she and Noc' were not alone. Prying eyes were, all along, watching the duo as they had pressed deeper, though to Lorena it was the same pattern and trek over and over again. In fact she had even contemplated ditching the human then, for odds of making it somewhere would drastically increase then -- but she had her arrangements set up and he knew the way. IF he wasn't getting lost.

Lorena came to the conclusion that relying on Noc to navigate was like using a bow with a cracked limb. It may work, but you don't know if it will be reliable for that one shot. Proven to be well put together in the head, she saw this but saw another half that seemed more lost than a booze addled tart after a three day mead binge.

But then it happened, as she had took two more steps the background stirred and if it were an ambush, the dwarf was far too late to realize it.

The dwarvan woman was at first, taken aback at the collective of faces that materialized in the woods, she said nothing as the color blended elves walked out of the background, like blotches of color escaping a painter's canvas.

How did I not notice? I hate forests even more now. She scolded herself in the back of her mind, more used to more open paths that woodsmen had partly cleared. Here, everything was untamed and wild, easy to miss elves hiding.

At first, Lorena's first instinct was to look around herself for something. A stick, rock, something to just have to crack a skull. But Noc talked first so she gathered her thoughts for the moment, letting him explain things. However, scarred the wood? This puzzled her, were elves that fickle over their forest? Seeing only two, she thought of a scenario in her head, but stayed her hand as she lacked a proper weapon other than her bare hands and she saw that if they wanted to strike, they wouldn't have popped out as those two did.

"I be guessin' there be more of ye skulkin' about?" Lorena said bluntly, looking off to her side then to the two "Of the all the things, 'ow's my markin' causin' the forest pain, mn? I did as such to mark our way. Makin' me wonder what you 'ould say of a man pissin' on these trees for a relief." Her blunt approach may have not been the best choice of words, but she grinned as she thought it amusing now to see how they would acutely react to that scenario.

"So you have been lost." The Female elf said, responding to Nocturne without her eyes ever leaving Lorena. "If you require assistance being guided, you need only ask. Yrimin would guide you, though... You might not be able to hear her, so we shall guide you instead." She'd say, her voice soft, but her eyes steely as they gazed upon Lorena. "Do you wish to leave the forest, or go to Quilda Celeth?" She'd state, slightly relaxing. Either they'd be taken to a village, or they'd be removed from the forest proper, so either way they wouldn't be the elves' problem anymore.

"There are many in the wood, You'd do well to remember this." The male elf would say, tilting his head slightly at Lorena. "Would you prefer an example of how scarring the wood harms the forest, or can you wrap your mind around it?" The male said, pulling a small knife out of his clothing. It was a small stone sharpened and bound to a short bone handle. He held the blade to his arm, and drew a small amount of blood, wincing lightly from the pain. "Yrimin is alive, just as you or I. Remember this, and she will treat you with respect." The male said, pulling a dyed cloth from his camouflage, and wrapping his arm, the wound disappearing, and blending in with his camouflage almost as soon as he'd finished wrapping his arm. "Now, please do not dole out any further harm to Yrimin." He'd say, still looking at Lorena with a semi scowl, but it appeared that was his default expression.

Nocturne couldn't say he was completely untroubled by how the eyes of neither elf left Lorena. However, it appeared that they looked at her more because she was the more interesting of the two and less because they were offended by her. At least, that was how the ever positive human hoped it was.

Genuinely apologetic for his inability to hear the voices of the forest, Nocturne humbly accepted the female elf's offer, "It is as you say, I do not appear worthy enough to hear Yrimin's voice, and I would eternally appreciate the guidance of a lovely lady like yourself. My friend and I still wish to go to Quilda Celeth if you and your companion could be so kind." Seeking agreement or disagreement, Nocturne paused and gave a questioning glance to Lorena to see her reaction to his words.

Regardless of Lorena's response to his glance, there was one thing Nocturne was certain of, and he used it as a jest to lighten the steely mood that he felt was really out of place in the dappled green light of the forest. With a light smile playing on his lips, Nocturne spoke, "Although, it seems that my friend here is so sick and tired of following a fool like me that she'd love to see anything besides my back. Really, I'm sure that, deep inside, she's just jumping for joy at this meeting," he raised a hand to his mouth as if to tell a secret and continued in an exaggerated whisper that even Lorena, who was behind him, could make out, "I think she's just a little shy."

The smile that had been playing on his face stretched out into a bigger crescent as Nocturne let out a small laugh. Really, he wasn't sure if this would lighten the mood at all, but he was trying, and if he couldn't laugh at his own joke, then who would?
