______________________________ xxx "What are you trying to get at here? Are you trying to pin us against you? Put us in danger?" Piper's amber eyes almost flared red with her anger. "Is this the game you played with my father? My mother? Play around until you put them in danger, swoop in and save the day? Where were you when they needed you most, Howl? Was the fun over?"
The ground and plants seemed to rumble with her anger. She released Howl and let him fall. He let the momentum carry him to the ground where he landed gracefully, clearing his throat. He was the calmest of the group and approached the two angry looking apprentices. "Let me explain," He started. "When I-" He stopped talking when Piper backhanded him across the face. He stared at her in surprise, not at all expecting that. "Wha-" Piper turned her attention to Crowe, seeming to be pouting.
She bent down and held out her hands for him. "Let me see your injuries," Piper asked softly, placing her hand right above his red skin and injured fist from punching the floor. A lime green light emitted from where he stood, channeling the life energy of the plants around them to heal Crowe's injuries. A few flowers began to wilt and grass began to loose life until Crowe's wounds were healed completely. When the verdant energy stopped flowing, the flowers absorbed the life energy of the plants around them to become healthy and fine again.
"Piper, Crowe. Let me explain." Piper didn't look at him. Her face was still red with anger. "There is nothing you can say that can fix this situation."
"Not even from me?" Sophie asked behind them, wearing a sun dress and large straw hat. Howl looked back at her, relived. She glared at him. "Sophie, dear! So glad you're here to help me-" "Howl, be quiet. You're not helping."
The wizard shut his mouth and turned, feeling the red mark on his cheek. Sophie smiled softly. "This was my idea." The woman started, making Piper gawk. "What?" Howl looked at her in surprise. Why was she lying to cover his back? "Sophie...How could you? How could you put the both of us in danger like that?" "There is no other way to test your abilities until we push you to the brink of them."
"Push us to the brink...?" Piper questioned incredulously. "What did you learn from that?! That we don't get squished like pancakes when hitting the ground?!" Sophie sighed and shook her head. "We learned you and Crowe are incompatible." Temporarily brought out of her vexed state, the young witch blinked in surprise at this realization. "Incompatible? But.."
"When he tried to save you," Howl started, approaching Crowe and pointing to his wrist. Despite her healing, a tiny vine clutched onto the skin. Piper looked similarly at her own wrist and saw a dark marking shadow. She gasped. "When two magic users have too strong an aura to collide, they reject one another. Especially in times of great danger. It means that if the two of you try casting spells simultaneously while too close, you'll end up hurting each other. It just proves you need to work together." Howl rubbed his cheek petulatnly.
"We wouldn't of known that hadn't been for this circumstance," Sophie offered softly, placing a gentle hand on Piper's shoulder. "You have all the right to be angry. But don't take it out on him. Take it out on me. The both of you need to keep an open mind. This isn't just fun and games. There are wizards out there who will rot your skin and curse all of your family and friends. You need to know your limits. You need to know that it can come down to life or death."
Piper closed her eyes and bit her lip. "What use is he if we can't help each other?" She looked over at Crowe and bit her lip, looking away. Sophie sighed. "You'll find a compromise. It just takes time."
Piper huffed and began to storm off, summoning her branch to come with her. Howl called out to her as walked. "Your parents were incompatible with me, y'know. When it came time to know that - it was too late. Sometimes power isn't always the answer." Piper looked back at Howl and whistled. A vine came up behind him and tripped him, making him fall on his face. Sophie giggled softly and turned to Crowe, shrugging. "I doubt we'll be able to convince her of any of this. Why don't you talk to her? You two seem to be on friendly terms." Sophie attempted a shy, friendly smile.

Crowe seemed rather upset about all this. It wasn't Sophie's nor Howl's fault. It was his fault. Him, as the child of darkeness, should've never accepted Howl's help. He, Howl, and Sophie knew that darkeness is one of those types of magic, that won't work cooperatively. The only element that can work with darkeness, is darkeness itself. And yet, the reason why Crowe asked for Howl's help, was to not go overboard. But he did. And now, Piper was beyond ticked off due to him. 'What an inconvenience I must be.' Crowe thought bitterly. He looked at his hand and put it over his heart for a minute. He turned to Sophie his gaze agreeing stubbornly, without anger. He smiled at her with his amber eyes, and nodded twice. He then ran after Piper. "Alexsmith!" He whistled. The darke little pixie responded glimmering purple. Crowe looked at the pixie. It gave him a little jar. He looked up at the pixie and smiled brightly. "This'll cheer her up...I hope! Thanks Alexsmith!" "Just don't mess it up." The pixie then flew off. Crowe turned around. "What do you mean by that?!" He called. But no answer came. Crowe ran off trying to go find Piper. "Piper?! Piper? If you can hear me, please, listen to me!" Crowe called running around the place frenetic. Pedestriane ((Mhm! She also seems mystical too! smile Hmm...evidently, in this moment, Piper may not XD But, despite that...I've always loved the movie! When I was little-little, I used to put on a hat, and jump off the couch...I could never fly though! X3 I can understand why Sophie loves Howl!))

______________________________ xxx ...Piper sat on top of a large oak tree on the other side of the field, hugging her knees. She bit back tears. This is the new life her mother promised her? The new life of being an apprentice with the great wizard Howl? All the training she went through, all the books she'd read and studied. Was it all for nothing now that she was put into this situation? Piper buried her face in her hands, trying to calm herself down. If she didn't, she'd start crying.
When Piper was younger and she couldn't get a spell right, or not matter how hard she tried she couldn't channel her energy...She had her parents there. Her mother or her father. They were there to guide her through it. They told her what was right and wrong. Held her hand and showed her the proper way. What was Howl in comparison to them? He wasn't familiar with her magic. Let alone know how to work with any of it. It was just like he said - they were incompatible. If Howl wasn't able to work with any of her parents, what made him think with a smidgen of hope that she and Crowe could work?
Was it her misfortune? Her stubborn magic passed down generation from generation? Piper trembled and ran her fingers along the leaves holding her up, hoping they would offer her some sort of comfort. She sighed and stretched out on the branches, running a hand through her hair. It wasn't going to work out with Crowe. That tiny interaction when he tried to help her...It was a flat out rejection. There was no way they were going to cooperate, it just wasn't meant to be.

"Piper...?" Crowe slowly said as he walked towards the tree. How he got there, no one had a clue. "Piper?" He repeated. He then climbed the tree clutching the jar tightly in his hand. She was upset. "Umm...I...have a gift for you....I don't know...how to um..." Crowe just shook his head. He smiled at Piper. He took the jar. And revealed it to her. There was dirt inside of the jar. Crowe whispered a spell. He took off the lid and a beautiful purple flower appeared. He handed Piper the jar with the flower. "I know, this is my fault..." Crowe murmured softly. ______________________________ xxx At the mention of her name, she huffed and moaned. "What is it?" Piper called angrily, half tempted to send down a vine to smack him. She looked down at the man to see him attempt to climb up the tall oak holding a jar filled with what looked like soil. Her eyes narrowed. "Is this some type of joke?" She asked, expression turning into a surprised one when he gave her a smile.
The woman watched as his whispered words caused the a gorgeous dark purple flower to sprout out of the soil. She took it from his hands carefully and stared at it closely. "It's a Campion..." She whispered with wide eyes, turning the jar to examine the plant further. She'd never seen one in real life, only pictures. They were extremely rare and took essence to summon. They were strong flowers that were commonly used for potent potions. Piper reached her finger out to caress it, but a similar reaction occurred. The magic used to cast the dark flower shocked her finger. She frowned and exhaled softly, producing a soft green light that glowed from her finger. She attempted to interact with the flower once more and it hesitantly bowed to her touch, making her smile. The green light engulfed the Campion's petals, entire flower glowing with a sickly green and purple aura, pulsing with life. She continued staring at it, almost in a trance.
After a few moments, she smiled and looked down at Crowe, jumping down from the tree. She gently placed the flower on a branch and shook her head. "No, I overreacted. This is just as much my fault, too." She reached up to cup his cheek, hand coated in a emerald green essence. There was no rejection this time, no shock or resistance. Instead, his dark aura joined with hers, vibration of power resonating as a force to be reckoned with. She she gently got on her tip toes to give him a kiss on the cheek of thanks, only to be met with a slight tingling sensation on her lips, as if their auras were not completely as one. She stepped back and picked up her new plant, returning to Sophie and Howl wordlessly.

Crowe sat there, unsure of how to react. What, in all's name just happened?! Crowe hugged a tree branch tightly and stared down and sat there, for once, not killing the tree. What did she just do? Crowe shivered in a strange reaction. He hummed a little. The darke pixie, Alexsmith, just hummed in response. Crowe smiled at the creature. This, was a real smile. The pixie tugged on his hair. Crowe's aura ((which once again, was able to be felt)), changed. Crowe whipped his darke hair back casually. Crowe smiled as Alexsmith scolded him in fairy. This is what it felt like to have feelings? Well, to Crowe, it was a miracle in the depths of darkeness. Crowe jumped down from the tree falling behind Piper, deep in thought. His silence could've been accounted for as bliss that filled in the gap between him and Piper. Alexsmith rested on the top of Crowe's head. The pixie looked a little tired, but not to the point of exhaustion. He then realized, that Piper, Howl, and Sophie would be tired too. But in that time of sleep, what could he do? Darkeness only comes once a day in a long period of time. He figured he'd find something to do. Maybe try painting. Maybe try to have his crow friend, Eilethe, visit him. Give him a report, and speak his mind. But he quickly reminded himself, that such was not a good idea. He smiled, looking back at reality. Piper seemed to like the little gift, even if he did almost kill it. Crowe supposed that such was just a kind way. Maybe, she would forgive him for being an idiot. But, at least he tried to make up for it; and Piper seemed quite happy despite her silence. Crowe whispered something to himself a little poem. Someone long ago told him the poem. It was a beautiful little poem, that even he had to admit was glorious. It gave him strength. Crowe began to hum a little eerie tune, that was hummed once before. He struggled trying to remember the tune. He laughed quietly, hoping that Piper wasn't paying attention. It sounded scary, and yet, he tried so hard to get it right, and even the darke pixie flinched at the tune. 'Oh well.'Pedestriane ((Well, at least you were! Hee! Howl the fashionista! smile ))

______________________________ xxx Sophie ran up to Piper worriedly, face morphing into one of relief when she saw that the young witch was smiling shyly. "What's this?" The woman asked, pointing to the jar. Piper held it up to the sun and stared at it endearingly, her smile widening. "It's a flower. Campion. It's it lovely? Crowe gave it to me." She ran her finger along the jar's surface and watched it pulse with an organic ambience. It was very beautiful. Just looking at it put her in a better mood. Sophie put a hand on Piper's shoulder. "I'm glad things have gotten better." The mage's eyes widened and she blinked in surprise, shaking her head. "Oh no, they haven't. Not with Howl, anyway. I'd like to smack him again." Sophie paled and then laughed softly, looking back at Howl. He was nervously standing near a flower patch, not thinking it safe to approach Piper after she upright slapped him. Crowe's gift to her was making her feel a lot more relieved about this new situation she was put in. In fact, it gave her hope that they could work together. Even of opposite magic types, it didn't mean their relationship was doomed. They had to keep trying. Howl, on the other hand, was a lost cause. She thought about him and got angry. Not just because it was Howl, but because he was a manipulative b*****d who put them in danger to satisfy his sick curiosity. That wasn't okay. It wasn't okay when it came to her parents, and it still isn't okay now. "Do you want him to apologize?" Sophie asked softly, pressing her lips together. Piper shook her head. "It wouldn't matter. Howl is just being Howl. And I can't stand that."
"Well...Perhaps we should get back to the castle?" Sophie offered, attempting a smile and handing her a small vine-wrapped twig. Piper reciprocated the sentinement and nodded. "I think I'd like that." She summoned the device and made her way back up, opening the door and heading to the kitchen where she began to water and care for the plant. Sophie came up close and watched her work, giggling. "You really like nature, don't you?" "I do...It's very calming." "Well, I'm sure you'd be happy to know Howl will not be joining us here for the rest of the day. He has a job. I figured it would be nice to have him go away so you can settle your nerves...Plus, it can give you and Crowe some bonding time. Doesn't that sound nice?" Piper just blushed and nodded, gently feeling the flower's stem.

Crowe eventually stopped humming, and ran to the path. He was all jittery and he felt...wierd. He felt happy. At least the horrid feeling of the world on his shoulders dissolved a little. The wizard (sorcer perhaps is more correct?), moved along swiftly with Alexsmith sitting on his left shoulder. Crowe stopped every now and then to look at each scene slowly, wondering if he should find Sophie, Howl, and Piper again. Piper was probably still straight up outraged, Howl was probably a bit terrified, and Sophie was probably still blaming herself for what had went down. Crowe sighed, and shook his head not wanting to deal with them, but he was their "guest". He then continued walking, and then approached Sophie and Piper. "So...sorry for being late. I was just thinking too hard." He apologized as he stared down at his feet. His voice had turned the way it had before. Crowe sighed eternally and felt grateful towards these people, assuming that they somewhat cared. Crowe looked up at the sky, debating if he should turn into his shadow form, but then shot it down. The sunlight and moonlight would make it much harder to continue along. If he was hit by light, then his shadow form would reject him, and he would be a mess. The last thing he wanted, was a tragic event to occur. He smiled a bit at his feet, realizing, that he could just float in the air casually.

______________________________ xxx Once Crowe was inside, Sophie attempted to give him a kind smile to alleviate the situation, but it seemed he was being his normal self. Piper, meanwhile, was sitting at the table and looking at her flower, amused by it's motions and liveliness. Sophie went upstairs to leave the two of them alone, and Piper just got up to approach him, flower in her arms. "Where did you find this? They're native species...Ingary doesn't have any of these. I doubt they're even on this continent. All that work, just for me?" She smiled softly at him, cheeks rosy.
"I'm sorry about the things Howl said, and how I reacted. I shouldn't of been so brazen. I know it wasn't mature, or easy for you to come and help, either. Thank you for that. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you, or show my gratitude?" Piper turned and set the flower in the middle of the table. It's simple presence seemed to brighten up the room. The almond-honey proliferated into the space surrounding them, guaranteed to put those witnessing it in a better mood.

Crowe nodded to Sophie his eyes explaining he was more worried about everyone else, than himself. Crowe looked a little surprised as Sophie went up the stairs, but then his shock wore down as he watched the flower and Piper happily. He then stared down into Piper's eyes and smiled a little. It was such a faint smile, but it was still a smile. "Don't worry about it, okay? I just..." He began. His words were at loss, and he decided to repick up his thoughts. "I felt, for just once in my life that I wanted to do the right thing...but little did I know that you'd be saving a flower I almost killed, and little did I know that I'd be here." He murmured, his eyes reflecting a new image. His eyes were like pools of water, deep, but not willing to reveal everything that remained deep within. "Memories...are gold and silver. They are precious, and when you forget once, and forget forever...it will vanish like a shadow. Forgotten, but not lost, because you can retouch it...if it means something to you." He whispered. He then looked at Piper, in her eyes. "Look...you don't need to thank me. I don't think you know this, but you've already helped me out by giving me a chance. My chance isn't quite up yet, and I plan to try to keep my chance and faith far from the darkeness for as long as I can take it. But once that chance is up...what's going to happen? Will I be forgotten but forgiven? Or will I just remain a shadow as I once was before? These questions are beyond you, Howl, Sophie, and I, but when we know...I can only pray that in the end, somehow, it will be happy. Because normally...I hurt people instead of making them happy. I sure to god hope Piper, that I don't hurt any of the three of you." Crowe added. It was hard to tell if this was Crowe giving in or up, but he seemed in a new light. One completely different from before.

______________________________ xxx "Oh, Crowe..." Piper whispered as she approached him and placed a caring hand on his cheek, eyes wet with tears. All of his words were so heartfelt and woefully painful. Looking at him now, hearing his words...It put Crowe in a whole new light. He wasn't simply this damaged, quiet man with darkness on his side. He had a story. Piper never quite saw that in him. Not until now. His eyes were pools of emotion hidden away by the depths of his feelings. Eyes that wanted and pleaded to tell more, but were too afraid of being hurt to reveal their true self.
"Darling. You don't deserve any of that burden. It's not yours to take on. The world isn't solely one person's responsibility. That's why you have loved ones, why you have friends to help you through the challenges presented. My love, there is a single person whom you must ask forgiveness. It's yourself. Because time will heal all wounds, however in yourself it will only fester. For the rest of us, we will follow in your legacy." Piper's hand left his cheek to squeeze his shoulder comfortingly, hoping her wounds could attempt to do something to help him. She didn't know how he felt. Couldn't ever imagine what it would take to move through the experiences that could make someone harbor such venomous feelings.
Piper sucked in a breathe and hugged Crowe, kissing his temple. "There is nothing more I wish to do than make you happy. If that means forgiving you after you've hurt me, I will gladly do so. You are capable of so much more than violence. You're capable of compassion. I know this now. You don't have to be afraid of harming others. I'm here for you, I promise." She smiled comfortingly at him, rubbing his cheek. Piper never truly had a parent to help her through times of adversity. It was her and nature. The things she felt comfortable with. It seemed now that Crowe never had anything to begin with. That he was alone from the start. Hopefully, starting now, that could change. She wanted to be there for him.

Crowe was quiet for a little, listening to his and Piper's breaths, waiting for his magic to leap out any second, but luckily, it only hummed softly inside of him. He took a deep breath, and held her tightly in a hug. Crowe wouldn't care what anyone thought at this moment. He just felt tired and sick of everything that happens to everyone around him. He rested his head gently on top of her's. Crowe knew that Piper may be a little caught off-guard, but he didn't mind either way, because in the end, he knew he shouldn't exactly be here. But he was, and everyone was so nice to him. He breathed inwardly and let his eyes close for a few seconds. "Piper...please don't cry. It's...not anything anyone could prevent other than myself...but I am just having a hard time. I wish I knew, what I had to do, but for now, I can only let things work themselves out." He whispered softly. He opened his eyes and smoothed back Piper's hair, hoping she would stop crying. But then again, he was beginning to wonder why she was crying. He couldn't tell if she was just plain concerned, or concerned for him. The darke wizard knew that, the answer would remain deep within the witch, and that he was more afraid of hurting people than he ever was. He shook his head. "Piper, what am I going to do with you?" He murmured.. At least she was somewhat calm through this. Crowe took another glance at the flower. It really did brightened the room. Vendemmian Do you still want to continue this? I actually am awfully busy this month and next, and I'm actually not sure if I have too much on my plate? OCC: Sorry! Think I spelt your name wrong first time! xp
