What am I missing?
"Pff, thatsa load of bs. Any physical labor done in punishment could just as easily be done as personal training. Being forced to be able to recite something on command...that might be more useful as a punishment." Too bad she was out of her job. Oh well. "The role is very different in the two branches. Can't say I'll entirely miss the paperwork, either." Elin remarked, doubtful of getting re-instated in a high position. Besides, she'd probably be moved if she got a rank-up.
Elin walked over to the water and scooped some up in her hands, using it to dampen the ground where the fire was before stomping out the glowing remains and picking up her torch stone, watching with amusement as Wren struggled to get her footwear on. "Let's get going before sunrise, shall we?"

Wren collected her stone and put the other towel into her bag. “Well, I suppose having someone to train with will give me less of a reason to wander around off grounds so much.” She smirked, tucking her free hand into her pocket as she began to walk back toward the opening of the trail.
“Speaking of, I think we 'oughta go talk to the captain in the morning. Afterward, though, I'd like to show you the training grounds.” Again, her dialect slipped a bit. As someone raised in a small village, it wasn't ever easy to ditch her slight accent even after living in the city for many years. The grass crunched slightly beneath their feet, and she noticed after a few minutes of silent walking that their footsteps seemed to be falling in sync.

What am I missing?
Elin sighed, sticking close to Wren. Just how many rules the older woman broke on a day to day basis astounded her. And reminded her of her under city days. However, she'd never been one to make moves without purpose.
She nodded slightly, not seeming to care about her dialect or wording. "Sure. Hopefully getting an 'okay to join' won't take too long. They may test my skills as much as they like, until they decide that I'm good enough." Not that the Corps would really turn anyone down. It was just that some people weren't as suited for combat as others.

As they passed out from the canopy of trees and back into the stretch of grass between the barracks and the outskirts of the woods, Wren tilted her head back to look at the stars. “All in all, it doesn't take much to qualify. That's what makes our pathetic numbers so sad, it's just that no one wants to join.” She didn't want to go off ranting, and if she knew herself as well as she thought she did, it wouldn't have taken much to get her rambling about her views.
“In short, I'm disappointed in my kind as a whole. People seem to be fine living this way. I don't want to sound heinous, but..” her face went stern now, looking ahead again as they passed back through the gate. She paused to put her torch stone back in it's frame on the fence. “It drives me mad if I spend too long without going outside the walls. It's hard for me to understand being content here.” She sighed, hoping Elin wouldn't just hear her as droning like she was an old professor. “Anyway, like I said, we need everyone we can get.” It wasn't like the redhead didn't probably exceed the abilities of most of the soldiers her age, anyway.
As they approached the side door to the kitchen, Wren paused. “I hope I didn't discourage you or anything,” she said, turning to look as the other girl. – ooc; aah sorry im so late today, longpost to make up for it I had midterms until late this afternoon and then had to go to work u__u blow my brains out plz ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▅ ▅ ▅ ▆ ▆ ▆ ▇ ▇ ▆ ▆ ▆ ▅ ▅ ▅ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄ ▄

What am I missing?
". . ." Elin was quiet for the most part, putting back her torch rock. "Most people aren't crazy enough to join." Someone as young as herself probably wasn't in a position to criticize someone older, anyways. "I wonder what kind of world we'd live in if the ends always justified our means." It was sort of passive-aggressive, and inside, Elin felt bad about that. However, wandering around without purpose daily...something about that just seemed wrong to her. "I'm not easily discouraged. Not exactly like I could turn back now, anyways. I just hope I don't have too much of a hangover to function tomorrow." The redhead looked over her shoulder, out into the night, then took Wren's hand and dragged her to their room, pushing the older girl onto her bed. "Sleep."
OoC: uhm, okay. Midterms suck.

Wren sighed as Elin nudged her down onto her bed. “I'm sure breakfast will get you out of bed,” she laughed dryly. “With the kitchen right below us it always smells like food in here in the mornings.” She leaned down over her legs to pull off her boots, tucking them under her bedside table. Leaning back over the bed to close the window, she kicked her thick duvet down and slid her legs beneath it.
She slumped down against the pillow, short brown tresses pooling up around the side of her face that rested against it. She pulled the blanket up over her shoulder and tried to enjoy the feeling of her bed beneath her, rather than the familiar response she had – feeling trapped and restless in its confines. As her eyes scanned the shadowy room, now adorned with the other girl's belongings as well, she found some comfort. The emptiness there before had made her uncomfortable.
She closed her eyes, listening to the shuffling sounds of Elin getting into her bed. After the room had been in silence for a few minutes, she spoke up. “Oi, if you need anything during the night, you can wake me up. Bathroom is at the very left end of the hall though.” She hoped the girl was still awake, as it would feel rather silly to be talking to the dark room.

What am I missing?
While Wren seemed relaxed, Elin found that even with her body loosened up, she was tense. "Alright, I'll do my best not to wet the bed." Pulling a sheet over her head, she thought about all the times she wouldn't be able to sleep in anymore. The redhead turned over in her bed a few times, then just stared into the darkness for awhile before finally closing her eyes and quickly falling into a deep sleep.
