~ Weyrling Seragee ~

User Image
Name: Seragee
Age: 14
Gender: male
Rank: Weyrling
Appearance: Seragee is still short for his age. When he does hit his growth spurt he will reach 4'10". He has light grey eyes and fair skin. His medium brown hair is mostly short with a small pony tail at the nape of his neck. Young as he is, his voice hasn't broken yet and it is still near a soprano.

Personality:
Seragee is a young bright boy. He is highly intelligent for his age and actively seeks out puzzles to challenge himself with. He never tries to flaunt his brains or prove he's smarter than everyone else or show off. That's not what brains are meant to be used for. He wants to be able to help solve the problems of his world. How to keep places sanitary, or provide running water, or breed enough food for the dragons are the kind of challenges he looks for. His brains give him a quick incisive power. Seragee is quick to understand, analyze, and act if the situation calls for it. Otherwise he would prefer to take his time to look everything over and decide which course of action will help the best.

His hobbies include woodworking and using math to figure out angles and shapes for whatever he happens to be designing. Seragee prefers those who can understand when he starts talking sophisticated babble for friends. That doesn't mean he doesn't make friends with muscle bound kids, he just has to remember to dumb his words down for them. Seragee also enjoys games of strategy; either playing against a better opponent or teaching someone not as good as himself. The young man wants to do good, make a positive mark on the world and those around him.

Occasionally, he gets too big for his britches. His paternalistic side will come out when he feels his answers are absolutely correct. When this occurs, Seragee will try to convince whoever is around to do the chore or task his way. If his comrades refuse to do things his way he reacts badly by trying to boss or bully them into doing it his way. He means well, but sometimes can't see the answer from another's point of view. Once he has made up his mind to do something his way, he sticks to his choice no matter what. His steely determination can often get him into trouble if he happens to be wrong. On the occasions he cannot convince anyone to do things his way he'll try doing it alone just to prove he's right. He's afraid that someday he will be wrong and that his choice may cause harm to someone or a friend. To prevent just such a thing he'll double check his numbers. His fears that he tries to keep hidden beneath a confident exterior. For animals he particularly dislikes trundel bugs and tunnel snakes.

Much like any youngster Seragee is by nature messy. Clothing and everything else will get dropped on the floor or tossed haphazardly anywhere. He'll only clean if forced to, and then it'll be as little as he can get away with. Cleaning is really not one of his strong suits. Seragee is one of those kids who needs to see something to believe it. He does not believe in any sort of "higher powers". That being said he has had a difficult time believing they have jumped 500 Turns into the future. He was hit hard by the time jump and took a bit longer than others to recover. At first he couldn't believe his eyes as he saw the size difference in the dragons even though he was seriously impressed.

The other hard fact to face is the differences in society and rolls of the dragonriders. Seragee was fairly upset when he was told that he wouldn't be able to stand until he'd trained and then done a Turn as a squire. It is still slowly sinking in. He feels he has a good teacher in C'tis, but has been somewhat contrary in learning to fight. Seragee believes he'll never need to know how to fight given what he wants to do, even if he does impress a dragon. C'tis' in the end convinced him it was this way or the high way. He came out of his training slightly buffer than when he went in.

The young boy is on the fence about the outcome of the recent gold flight. He has never heard of a time when a blue has managed to fly a gold. Even if he'd been allowed to stand for the clutch, he's not sure he'd want to as he isn't sure what kind of clutch a blue can sire. Despite his doubts, it didn't really matter as no young dragon came for him.

History:
Much like any weyrbrat, Seragee was born at Benden Weyr. His parents often had duties that left him at the creche. His father was a wherhandler and his mother a baker for the weyr. He enjoyed his time in the creche and the friends he made there. When he wasn't at the creche, he tended to spend a considerable amount of time around the adults. Often the young boy would volunteer his help anyway he could. He showed interest in things the adults were doing and asked intelligent questions.

Soon enough he came to the attention of the right people. They insured he received extra tutoring when he showed interest and aptitude in learning and problem solving. Seragee was looking forward to becoming a candidate and maybe eventually a rider. By the time he turned 12, he was already helping out in small way. He was delighted to stand for his first dragon clutch. Alas he walked away disappointed without a dragon. Even though he didn't have a dragon when he saw Lamira having trouble he took it upon himself to help her. He offered what pointers on dragon care that he'd gathered and his friendship.

He'd been standing for a Turn when the weyrleaders gathered at Benden. Seragee was proud his weyr had the privilege to host the discussions. In the end it turned out not to be so great. As the massacres started, the young teen ran outside. A red-headed woman directed him a dragon waiting nearby. He climbed up on the bronze he later learned belonged to Ra'fe. It was a rough trip through time for him. He passed out almost as soon as the group appeared above High Reaches Weyr. When he came to, Seragee didn't believe what they tried to tell him. In fact he was in active denial even as he stared at the giant dragons. Enough repetition finally knocked the truth into his head.

It wasn't easy to adjust to the new culture. Seragee found himself placed with a foster family. One disappointing fact was that he was no longer a candidate in the sense he knew. He was having to go through an odd training, and rumors abounded that afterwards he would have a Turn of being a squire before being allowed to stand. It was something he grumbled about whenever he could. The physical training hasn't been too tough. Seragee views it as like the training for his mind he does, except its his body. The young boy was pleased when C'tis of blue Malcarreth picked him out as a squire. He makes a funny scene as he's so short compared to the experienced rider.

Evmeth's flight was a bit of a surprise, particularly her chosen winner. Seragee was incredibly proud that his squiremaster won the flight with a blue no less. However, that didn't help his trepidation as what kind of clutch a blue could possible sire. He watched the hatching from the Stands and was pleasantly surprised by the two bronzes and single brown. Unfortunately, no dragon came forward to claim him from the sands. Now it is Sereth's turn to clutch. C'tis has been pushing him hard to learn all he needs to know to ensure he is ready to stand now. Seragee is slightly relieved at the smaller dragons to be laid. He has high hopes that he might impress to one of the dragons hatched from the smaller time clutch.

~ The Dragon ~

Name: Vermellath

Sound of voice: Vermellath's voice is the stink of blood, the burn of fire, a roar that quakes to the marrow. He is power, and he is victory.

Personality:

Vermellath may have a light side… somewhere? Maybe? His main mode is ‘melancholic’, and it’s hard to shake the feeling that there is a time and a place he is meant for… and it isn’t now. What he is longing for is unclear, but it seems as though it is a more noble, magnificent era, of heroic deeds and epic doomed love, and that the world he finds himself in isn’t quite living up to his standards. He craves beauty and wonder, and will seek out beautiful things and people, seeking to make them his own.

He is an honourable creature - he would rather die then suffer dishonour, and this may be his eventual end. It is better to die with honour then to live with all about you knowing that you are a coward, or to suffer the indignities that captivity or disgrace may bring. This extends to the rest of his life - he will never make a promise he does not think he can keep (and will never break an oath), will never treat a lady poorly, and will always do his best to act with compassion.

He is loyal and true to his friends, and implacable against his foes, possessing a rare strength of character and conviction. He cannot see a wrong without wishing to right it, and will never stand by idle while someone suffers. He can, in his better moments, be kind and gentle, something which may surprise those who only see him as an ugly brute. Vermellath is also extremely stubborn, and once his mind is set on something then it's set, with even his rider finding it difficult to persuade him out of it.

That said, he is also vicious and greedy. Beneath his melancholy exterior lies the surprisingly bloody soul of a tyrant, with all that comes with it. He will stop at nothing to destroy his enemies and wrongdoers, and some may be surprised if he makes it to the end of his days without killing or maiming another dragon. He is extremely short-tempered, and it is easy to rile him up and push him into actions he may regret later. Vermeliath tends towards the most simple and violent solution to any given problem, and will frequently end up in fights because of this. He likes to gather beauty about him, whether precious items or collections of pebbles or beautiful dragons, and will always be greedy for more and jealous of those who possess more beautiful things.

Appearance:

Vermellath is an ugly beast, with odd lumps and bulging eye-ridges. No one will ever call him beautiful or even striking, but he is muscular and powerful.

...are we sure he's a dragon and not just a really big wher?

Why me?:

Vermellath and Seragee are not quite two of a kind, but not every rider must have everything in common with a lifemate. Melancholy Vermellath needs that sharp intellect in his life-partner so that, Fafnir and the Grey Mouser like, they can be an effective team. Unlike Seragee, however, he is likely to plunge straight into the thick of things, and that spontaneity is bound to drag them both into trouble and fun.

Vermellath’s viciousness may come as a surprise to Seragee, but the dragon seems to have sought out his partner for his essential goodness. It may be difficult or even impossible for the boy to hold back his dragon at times… which is just another challenge to overcome, right?

Tolkien
Faërie contains many things besides elves and fays, and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants, or dragons; it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are in it: tree and bird, water and stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted.

Inspiration:

Changeling: The Dreaming was part of White Wolf Game Studio's original "World of Darkness" role playing game line. Player characters are changelings, fae souls reborn into human bodies, a practice begun by the fae to protect themselves as magic vanished from the world. The game explores the balance between imagination and practicality, and the struggle of art and beauty against the dark, mysterious "Gothic-Punk" World of Darkness. Changeling draws primarily from Gaelic mythology, particularly stories of the sidhe and Tuatha Dé Danann, but also uses mythology and folklore from various other cultures including Native American nations, Greece, India and Yoruba mythology of Africa.

Fear and violence spawn dreams as readily as kings or commoners, and the Redcaps are the kithain most closely tied to nightmares. They gain their name from their traditional headwear - a white cap, dyed red in their victims' blood. Though quick to anger and capable of eating literally anything, Redcaps are not always evil or even Unseelie, though Redcaps of the Seelie Court are rare and sometimes ostracised by their peers.

Before the Sundering, the Seelie Redcaps were considered to be as trustworthy and loyal as trolls. Since the Resurgence, however, it has been rare to find any Seelie Redcaps - primarily because the Unseelie ones are prone to inflicting violence on them until they convert, often to the point of maiming them...or worse.

Their appetites and short tempers spring from the fact that they were born from dreams of hunger, bloodshed, and terror and their reputations reflect this. One of the more derogatory names for Redcaps is "bulldogs" - referencing the stubborn, often vicious nature of Unseelie Redcaps and their tendency to bite in conflict, and the similarities to the animal in question.

Unseelie Redcaps tend to reject the more traditional red wool cap, but always wear some form of red headgear. They also tend to take wardrobe tips from the ghetto and punk gangs they're fond of imitating - a Redcap's mortal seeming will probably include several piercings, leather jackets, and similar attire.
