I needed to decompress. I'm sure I'm not the only one, based on recent events.

And I like making playlists. I've also been on a big classic music kick ever since I watched Guardians of the Galaxy. Raise your hand if you're on one too for the same reason!

So, tonight I decided to start throwing together a Gaia Awesome Mix, taking inspiration from the manga. It's fun and good for unwinding!

Here's what I've got so far:

The Masque
April Fools ‘05
- The Byrds - Eight Miles High

Halloween ‘05
- Talking Heads - Love → Building on Fire

Gino vs. LabTech X
- Four Tops - Reach Out (I’ll Be There)

The Zurg Invasion
We Come In... Piece?
- Electric Light Orchestra - Shine a Little Love

Return of 09
- Steve Miller Band - Space Cowboy

The Vampire Conflict
Damian
- Neil Young - Vampire Blues

Unveiled
- Blue Öyster Cult - Nosferatu

Promageddon
Valentine’s Day ‘09
- Jackson 5 - I Want You Back

Promageddon
- Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - December 1963 (Oh What A Night)

Moonrise
Moonrise
- Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bad Moon Rising
- Bad Company - Run With The Pack

The Airship Saga
Frontier Skies
- Styx - Come Sail Away

Bad Guy Side Story
- Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You

Return
- Boston - A Man I’ll Never Be

This is just for the fun of it, but feel free to throw suggestions my way if you've got 'em. Songs from the 60s-70s preferred. Being a horrible person is very much okay as you can tell from my own contributions. Halloween '05 still makes me snicker.

NOTE: There doesn't have to be only one song per chapter. I'm just trying to give an idea of why I organized it the way I did! The mix list won't be in the same order as here -- the Airship saga overlaps a lot of other plots, so those ones will be slotted in chronologically on the actual mix.

Think of it this way -- sometimes we just need to step back, take a breather, and refocus. It actually makes us more productive in the long run, since stress will stop the flow of inspiration and dry out your creativity and motivation.

(Plus, if it works out, we can totally pass the 'mix tape' around during the event to help get people in a party mood. 3nodding )

Also NGL, I was considering Come Sail Away for the Zurg saga (because of those lyrics "I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise / They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies") but felt like ELO was a better place to start for the Zurg. They've got that fun, upbeat, retro-future sound, you know?

But it definitely works for Frontier Skies too. I'm adding all these in, thanks for the suggestions!

I had given myself an hour to do Gaia stuff before I had to get to doing some stuff around the house and I still haven't done that far after my timer went off. xp

The whole Angels part in Come Sail Away works for the fact that Sen and Marius are actually demigods.

Okay one more suggestion that I swear works best for the holiday I'm pegging it to because of the plot for the manga. It's just too perfect for it. xp

I guess I have it easier, my timer is other people in the house. And animals. Hungry animals.

Also ffffff, you had to link the Dancing Groot video, didn't you? I can't say no to Groot. heart

Also, uh. Wow, that was strange. For some reason, the w.cdn.gaiaonline.com images weren't loading for me, meaning half the newsroom was just... broken. Weird!

Aww nuts I thought I was linking to the actual J5 performance from their Goin' Back to Indiana special as so not to spoil the mid credits part from Guardians. Plus, I wanted to see what your reaction would be to the outfits they wore for that thing. xp

I suppose Bad Moon Rising is too obvious for Moonrise?

(Also I feel like there should be a lot of appropriate David Bowie, and maybe some Iggy Pop, but I'm blanking.)

Potentially. Throwing it in anyway. cool

I spent a good hour looking through Bowie songs, and couldn't decide on one. He has too many!

Woo! Love that playlist.

I too enjoyed the GotG soundtrack. Made an Awesome Mix station on Pandora using all the artists from the soundtrack as station seeds. XD

Hahaha... if it's any consolation, your way seems somehow more authentic.

I'm a bit surprised you haven't got Spirit in the Sky on your list. Sure, our god in the sky turned out to be...well...not exactly as expected--but at least it definitely is in the sky. And spoilage is pretty much where you go when you die....

People are Strange could fit pretty much any Halloween event tie-in, really. I like it best for grombies, though.

[Edit: there's also Harry Belafonte's Zombie Jamboree, but that might be a little too much of a golden oldie.]
