I go to a Detroit Public School and they are so broke they can't afford exchange students, or it might be the fact that people really don't want to come to schools in the DPS district.....

My school does a program for Japanese excange students to come to our school.This year I only got to talk to one but all I said was "Samui desu ne?" then I had to get on the bus. But they were cool.I'm trying to get to be one of the lucky ones who gets to go to Japan next year.

Yea. It was an awsome experience. We had a total of 17 exchange students at our high school last year. I was a 9th grader than(10th now).
There were 15 girls and 2 guys. I had a girl named Saori stay with us for three weeks and she was very nice and we had a lot of fun when they were here! We cried a lot after they left too crying . And next year in 2007 I wanna go with my teacher and other students to Japan for three weeks and visit our sister school and do other neat things; like climbing Mt. Fuji.

I'm a student at Earlham College (it's a great school if you're interested in Japanese Studies as well as the language, the classes are GREAT) and they've had an exchange program going with Waseda University in Tokyo for at least a decade. They've been involved with Japan for over 100 years, though, and they were one of the few colleges during WWII to allow in Japanese-American students. heart

I have a lot of Japanese exchange student friends, and they're all really nice and funny. My friend, Hiro, is so much fun to eat breakfast with because he does it in such a Japanese way. It's hard to explain without seeing it, but think of those scenes in anime when a character is eating ramen quickly and it's just one line of food. It's somewhat like that. lol... heart

You go to Earlham? That's so cool! I was there last summer doing the intensive Japanese study program with Kuriya Yasumi. Do you know Sara Perkins? She was our T.A.! I already have the application to try to get into Earlham for next year. ^^-

We have a Japanese exchange student in my school currently. Her name is Kittaka Mika. She's very nice and good at English. She doesn't like to talk in Japanese because she wants to focus on speaking English, but she lets me practice Japanese on her. I assist her when she has trouble translating things too. She spent $200 on clothes at the mall the other day. xd She likes fashion and has a boyfriend in Japan, but when we asked her if he's cute she said, "No, he's ugly!" And then when she showed us a Pirikura picture of him, we found out he is actually very cute! eek

A . S . N .
Does anyone else have a school with a Japanese exchange program? My high school has been involved in one for about 16 years now, and it's really exciting! They just melt your heart! There isn't a single person over here that can say they dislike them...because they can't xD. I've talked with a few of them and the conversations we've had always end with either laughter or emotions involving the act of smiling.

One more thing. The girls really like white people. Seriously. LOVE white people. Especially the guys xD. This happens every year =_=;. Every time it occurs...only an awkward joy is the outcome.

Has anyone else partaken in the excitement that is the Japanese exchange program? I'd really like to hear about your adventures or just the most simple scenarios surprised
ah that's so not fair, i wish i had that kind of program ;o;
it would be absolutely
amazing
