Personality:
Adalwolfa has a high sense of self. While it may make her come off as an egoist, in actuality, it is one of the strengths she constantly tries to upkeep to prevent herself from losing hope in the middle of humanity's struggling war. She is always to put herself first in a situation to ensure her survival, shrugging off the lives of others to make sure she is one of the souls to keep living. She congratulates herself for her triumphs, rebukes herself when she feels despair, has an unshakeable pride, and knows not the meaning of shame. If Adalwolfa even has to lie to herself to remain sensible, she will. There is no price impossible for her to pay when it comes to her sanity.
Her realistic attitude has defined Adalwolfa has being a compelling reasoner and negotiator. She likes to appease both sides of an argument to earn an equal ground and knows fairly well that such predicaments can never be concluded on a fifty-fifty standing. Yet, as long as both parties benefit, she too will be content. She does so by being an outside force and never applies her own personal preference. However, Adalwolfa does this unconsciously. For example, were she to be confronted and suppose to feel anger, she immediately removes herself from the predicament and distrusts her feelings, finding them an unneeded detail when it comes to making valued judgements. Even expecting a reaction from her towards a death, such a sorrow, is difficult to Adalwolfa because she reasons that something uncontrollable -- such as a choice or an outside force -- brought their life to an end and there is no reason to cry.
Adalwolfa is surprisingly very forgiving despite all claims made against her. But it is less a pacifistic pursuit regarding redemption and more the fact she regularly forgets what people do to her that encourages her anger. It takes only a day for her opinion of someone to turn around from pissed off to pleasant regarding their transgressions. Just as she is quick to upset, she is quick to let go. Yet, despite extending this to others, many don't return the favor when it comes to her own shortcomings. This is because her constant lying causes her to wittingly pass the blame onto others and leave her in the clear. She is not the most popular soul amongst other soldiers due to it.
Adalwolfa usually recognizes people via their attributes. She passes on odd nicknames to individuals because of them -- finding those bestowals easier to remember than their birth name. A male with a piercing stare may be called Wide Eyes or a girl with a lovely simper may be called Smiley. It all depends on the person and her first impression of them. There are a select few who may weasel their way into her mind and be permanently remembered. It is these souls that matter the most to Adalwolfa because they left a very strong impression on her; whether it be like or dislike is questionable, but their significance to the soldier is high if they do. This is not to say she is incapable or against making friends. While becoming one may be a bit of a challenge because they have to get passed her defenses, it is worthwhile in the end because Adalwolfa will find a way to protect that friend no matter what. Friends become the equivalent of family in her mind and she may interpret a bond shared as a means for her to sacrifice most for that person to ensure their safety.
Adalwolfa has grown up with a warped sense of relationships. She cannot trust anyone for fear of being emotionally hurt -- not even with her name. Adalwolfa has constructed the facade of a hard-working, revenge hungry girl ready to avenge her parents rather than her true tale of being a run away from debt and shame from the inner walls. To upkeep her image, she pathologically lies every turn and moment in her life just to throw off blame from herself and keep everyone in the dark regarding her true persona. Though she has managed to do so successfully, it is a matter of time before the truth is made clear.
Before family, friends, comrades, and humans in general, money comes first. Adalwolfa is extremely avaricious and loves the feel and sound of money within her hands. To her, money can buy happiness and so much more, despite it being the very problem that led to her current situation as a soldier in training. Even with her debt still standing, Adalwolfa continues to purchase expensive items to satiate her greed. She is also quite a fashionista, dressing in the most expensive silks her paycheck from the military can afford. Adalwolfa can be quite judgmental of people if their attire is not up to snuff with the latest fashions, and equally tremble in jealousy when the same goes for her.
Dogs sit just under money as some of her favorite things. Adalwolfa's forced facade tends to melt when in their company and she shows a rare side of herself that's mostly smiles when interacting with them. This is because when she was younger, one of her closest friends was a happy-go-lucky terrier named Waldemar. They separated when she ran away from home, but being amongst dogs tend to bring about those memories of him and their mirthful times together. When a canine is nearby, she is known to share her food or give them a pat on the head in passing. Due to her love, the girl does not tolerate any forms of abuse to her four-legged friends; be them verbal or physical. When she comes into contact with moments like these, her berserk button is hit and she sees red until she can exact whatever harm was brought on them to the perpetrator.
Adalwolfa always concerns herself with the present and identifies herself as a realist. The teen emphasizes this aspect of her greatly. If she knows she is bodily incapable of a feat, she will not go through with the action, and likewise pat herself on the back for not expelling energy for nothing. Unfortunately, thanks to this way of thinking, Adalwolfa does not attempt to try new and different things no matter how they might pique her interest. She backs down and readily blames reality for the truth. Displacing the blame, to Adalwolfa, is the best way to sidetrack any frustrations to her, and quell her mind on any matter. Likewise, her "here and now" attitude causes her only to look forward to a moment when it occurs. She tries to shrug off the past and the future, but while doing so has its compelling benefits because she doesn't linger or regret, it also prevents her from prepping early for something for come.
History:
Adalwolfa was born the only child of Reimar and Hilda Westhofen. With wealth built on inheritance alone, Reimar and Hilda never worked a day in their lives. They relied solely on what was left to them by Reimar's wealthy father. As a prominent member of the nobility, the surname Westhofen was highly respected and revered. Thus, the couple and their daughter exchanged pleasantries with a number of other families hoping to become acquainted. Adalwolfa was the apple of her mother's eye, but seen more as a token to flaunt wealth rather than flesh and blood. Despite being paraded around as a doll, the girl was mirthful within her youth because she was given everything her thumping heart desired. Due to this pandering, she grew up with a holier-than-thou attitude and an avaricious gleam in her eyes.
Unfortunately, like all good things in life, the Westhofen family tumbled from the grace they dreamed would last until their very last breath. Reimar, being a heavy gambler, and Hilda, spoiling her daughter and her closest friends with gifts and lavish parties, eventually fell into heavy debt. Even when their home and expensive clothes were sold off, the two only covered half their finances. For the first time in their lives, the two were forced to work, but with their little skill, none would take them. Giving up hope within the inner walls, Reimar and Hilda gathered what little things they had and headed for the outermost tip to escape the laughs that ensued from the men and women once regarded as friends. Despite her kicking, whining, and screaming, Adalwolfa was forced to settle into a life of labor. Her hair was forcefully cut to hide her identity and she learned to abandon the life and memories she knew behind. Within Shiganshina, the three worked as farm hands on a plot of land. The hands of a girl that was once silken grew calloused and coarse, but by her parents' command, she continued to work.
For two years, Adalwolfa bowed to the sun as she weeded and tilled the land by hand. Her mind was only filled with work. Even when Reimar abandoned his family for favor of a younger woman and Hilda disappeared altogether, she continued to work. All she could do is work because the life she once knew was no more. Or so she thought. On the morn of her seventeenth birthday, it clicked to the girl that the military offered her a chance to return to a semblance of the life she once knew. Swallowing her pride, Adalwolfa signed up for the military with hopes of climbing to the top ten to make it to the Military Police. The inner walls were her home and, by the heavens above, she would return to it even if she had to lie, cheat, or steal to do so.
