Wen It took a moment planning and some careful juggling, the smaller blue being shifted to join his larger sibling. But, Wen managed to get a hand free and into a handful of meat, offering it to the small green. "Hi, there lovely," he said softly and smiled as she slowly moved close and took the piece. "Aren't you a pretty girl?"

Paige
"Ooohhh. That's a good point. I guess dragons don't need to worry about half their clutch being eaten by predators." Venaith snorted behind Paige. As if she would let any harm come to any dragon in her weyr, hatched or not. As long as Venaith called Ista home, Ista's clutches would be forever safe.
"So lucky." She sighed wistfully. It would be amazing to find a wild clutch still, though now that she had two lovely firelizards of her own, the desire to do so for the reward of Impression was moot. Still, it would be fun to find one. For now though, she focused on feeding the little gold. Her green was showing signs of fullness as she tucked deeper into the gold's side, little grunts of satisfaction coming from her tiny body.
Cai
Cai slid back as another firelizard approached Wen. Shaff those two attracted them like insects to spoiled meat! (no insult intended by the comparison, not that he'd said it out loud)
"I'm beginning to think you two are mildly insane." Cai commented instead, his grey eyes casting about in case one of the few hatchlings left decided to come his way uninvited.

"Don't think I've ever heard of a tunnelsnake going after a dragon clutch," she mused thoughtfully. "Most dragons have to worry about is duds and nosy candidates." Lorend grinned. She'd been one of those nosy candidates when there had been eggs hardening. The golds made it hard with their near constant vigilance though. Beside the solid rock walls of the weyr and the dragons it'd be nearly impossible for a tunnelsnake to enter.
The comfortable weight on Foen wrapped across her shoulders. She blushed lightly when Paige called her lucky. "I dunno about that. I'm happy with him, but some would say you got the better one." She nodded to the gold in the other girl's lap. Not to mention the gold dragon. Lorend shook her head, "dumb luck I think." The green in her lap let out a soft trill and curled into a tight ball with her head under a wing. "Whacha gonna call them?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "There's a good girl," she whispered softly to the green as small pieces were accepted from her fingers. The brown gave a small burp and ducked his head embarrassed as the green gave an indignant sniff. "You're excused." So cute! Lathis chuckled as the brown finally decided he'd had enough and began to clean up. Able to focus on feeding only the green, the girl tried to croon softly at her. A cheep made her stop and wrinkle her nose. "Alright you do it." Lathis stroked the green's eyeridges prompting the happy croon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The green squirmed and cracked an eye. Too much noise! Bacha rose slowly to her feet and quietly headed out. The barracks should be fairly empty and quiet right now. She'd get her girl settled in a nice bed then go to find her brother.

Paige
"Hehe!" Nosy candidates indeed! Lorend wasn't the only one though Paige's escapades to the hatching sands were certainly less daring than some candidate's attempts. She usually contented herself with passing a little too close to the entrance on her way past, or going in a group of bolder children to try and find one of the always-fabled back entrances.
Paige felt an uncomfortable knot in her stomach at the mention of her being luckier for having a gold firelizard. The fear of judgement had developed within days of Impressing Venaith. Who was she to have a gold dragon? To be a goldrider? She wasn't a leader. She didn't want to be one. She had pretty much skated over the entire idea of even being a thread-fighter. Bravery was not something she was convinced she possessed. She'd just wanted a dragon! She wanted to know what that partnership and companionship felt like. She never once actually thought she might impress a gold and now that she had, she was terrified others were going to hate her or be jealous because of it.
And now she had a gold firelizard too... Paige lost any appetite that she might have had as the taste of bile touched the back of her throat. She didn't want to give up the little girl, she loved her already as the little flickers of thought from the two ticked her mind. But here she was, a gold rider, with a gold firelizard. How much more conceited and privileged could she get?! She might as well go see about buying a gold wher egg and really test to see if you could impress both a dragon and a wher. Fardles what a shaffing idiot she was! Of course now shrugging it off would be rude 'oh i wouldn't say gold is better than any other' well of course she wouldn't she was a shaffing gold rider. She couldn't agree either because that was just egotistical and would definitely earn her an enemy out of Lorend.
"dumb luck... yeah." Well that was eloquent and brilliant and just the best thing she could say. Great harper you are Paige. Why don't you go back to your spelling tiles because you are a grade A dimglow.
"I uhhh... I don't know... I haven't really thought of that yet?" In all truthfulness it might take her a couple days to name them while she felt out their personalities.

Lorend grinned with understanding at Paige's giggle. Only a cowardly, or perhaps rule-bound candidate never tried to glimpse the eggs. There was always that illicit thrill, and the fluttering hope that one of those eggs held your dragon. Every candidate at some point in their candidacy went to spy on the eggs.
The girl gave a knowing look as the happy mood seemed to leak out of her companion. "Oi! Don't look like that. They both choose you fair and square. 'Sides could you imagine me with a gold? Tch I'd never be able to pull another prank, Ever!" Lorend gave a grin. "I'm more than happy with Tribleth, even though she doesn't think I act girlish enough."
Now here was an opportunity which she wouldn't have expected. She considered it for a moment then leaned in closer and whispered. "In fact, I could use some help on some pranks now and then. Ya'know if your gold dun mind. And in return ya could try to teach me girly things." Lorend wasn't sure it'd stick, but it would get Tribleth off her back. She glanced down at the green. "I guess its a bit early still."

  The last two eggs began to shake. The eggs had the entire trough to themselves and yet somehow still managed to collide. The two hatchlings fell into one another, the bronze and green hopelessly tangled in each other. So many were getting tangled in this hatching and, seemingly just like the others, it was the green that got antsy about it. This one though seemed more paniced and the minute she wiggled free went speeding out of the trough faster than the bronze could keep up with. One minute he was tangled and the next the firelizard he was tangled with was completely gone. The green sped out of the trough and straight into the waiting company of the fair, who soon began to feed her scraps as they preened her older sister. This caught the attention of the earlier brown, who decided he liked that place better, so quickly trotted over to the grown firelizards for food and attention. It was not, however, good enough for the bronze. He was a plainly coloured fellow, with no markings to speak of other than dark circles around his eyes. He was not going to live on just scraps handed to him by other firelizards. He wanted real meat and, turning towards the humans, he knew just where to find it. Now, he was a big lad and a big lad needed a lot of food, that was for certain and as he jumped down he considered where to go. He needed someone who looked like they had a lot of food going spare, so one of these ones with several firelizards was a good bet, but at the same time he wanted to be the biggest. So he could be sure he'd be getting the feline's share of the food and that if need be he could throw his weight around to get it. There, that arrangement suited. Two blues and a green, they wouldn't be challenge for him. Walking up to the lad the bronze chirruped to get his attention, projecting his hunger loudly at the weyrling. That left just a single hatchling sat in the trough, the speckled blue. Well, he best get on with it. The blue stood up, had a nice good stretch, and began on his way towards the humans. Hm, pickings were slim now. Where would he go? Many humans already had firelizards so there was that, but whether they would be company or competition really remained to be seen. Surely someone in here didn't have their hands full with a baby firelizard? He didn't want to have to argue over food right now, or ever for that matter, it was just too much energy. Spotting a little cluster a way off he at first dismissed them, no there were too many there. Wait a moment, those were all grown ones. He could handle grown ones. Altering his course the large blue hatchling padded across the dining hall to the rider. Stopping just shy of him he whistled up, eyes glancing quickly to the firelizards on the table and the one on his shoulder. Surely they wouldn't argue with him for food. The last hatchling had left the trough and the wild gold watched as the blue made his way off from the trough and chose a human. There, their task here was done. The little gold let out a shriek, catching the attention of all her fair, including its three new members. The gold sprang from the above the hearth and hovered a moment as her fair took wing around her. They were a wild fair after all. The three youngest struggled a while, but the older firelizards carefully glided under them as they shakily flew. The fair circled the dining hall, the gold letting out a loving croon to all her youngsters before the entire fair departed out the door and disappeared off, there would be no lounging around the Weyr for them, back to the beaches and cove caves was where they were heading. It had only been the clutch that had kept the fair returning home and now, knowing they were all safe and taken care of, they could head back. Hopefully guarding their clutches a bit better next time.

Z'ke
Z'ke had sat back and watched the entire hatching without saying much, but he was enjoying himself none the less. Plenty of people he knew had impressed and it seemed that most people had walked away with multiple firelizards. Well he supposed that wasn't a surprise considering the size the clutch had been. Yoko still had yet to rise, but she was fairly young still and he figured it might have something to do with the amount of firelizards in the area. Dragons didn't clutch often when a weyr was fully populated. Firelizards were probably the same.
Still, he'd imagined he'd have a hard time finding homes for a couple dozen eggs max... if she clutched as large as this wild flit he'd have to really scramble! You could always sell them you know. There are plenty of people both in the weyr and out that would pay well for an egg from a gold's nest. Aioth suggested with a yawn from outside.
Z'ke made a face... he didn't want to do that unless he had to. He'd had ideas of giving the eggs to people who maybe didn't have a firelizard at all (seeming more unlikely if the wild flits clutches started turning up indoors!) Or to people he felt would give them a good home. He didn't want to just pass them off to the highest bidder, even if that would line his pockets rather well. He'd thought of giving her first egg to Ionan. It would have made the young boy happy but with how many firelizards he was now covered in... well that was definitely out. Z'ke couldn't imagine a kid that young taking care of that many creatures. Not that he was much older at 15 but still. He was a rider. Ionan wasn't even old enough to be a candidate yet.
His hair had dried by now and it formed an untamed nest around his face. He tossed his head to clear the whispy strands from his eyes and shifted as the last few eggs cracked and their occupants made swift choices. Well that had been entertaining! Yoko lifted her head and chirped at the floor by his feet. Immediately Dorado and Terra responded with bright trills, flying off to grab from the remaining scraps of meat scattered among the crowd. What was this now? Z'ke blinked in surprise as he realized there was a hatchling at his feet. The little blue had made it all the way past the others without being scooped up and came to the one person not trying to Impress a firelizard?
Well it seemed Z'ke didn't need to do much. Terra and Dorado did as the wild flits had done as Yoko thrummed a welcome from his shoulders. Was she forming her own fair now?! Z'ke nabbed a couple pieces from Dorado and bent over, making sure the little blue knew that He was a part of this 'fair' too.
The dark blue grunted in satisfaction. Yes, this had been the right decision! They were all focused on him and feeding him and he had picked the best of the bunch.
Paige
Paige was shocked from her darkening mood by Lorend's easy read and quick dismissal of her concerns. Was she really that transparent with how she felt? Well that was embarrassing. Paige's face turned pink but at least she wasn't quite so close to crying. She managed another smile, grateful, at Lorend. "Hehe. Well I guess I've never really been the type to come up with a prank on my own." She was a follower... not a leader. Her brain whispered insecurities at her again. "What's wrong with not being girly?!" There the grin was back. Paige was hopelessly girly, but at least it was in an acceptable weyrborn way or so she thought. Had she been a delicate little holder lass she'd never have survived weyrlife!
There is value in being who you are, not who you are not. Venaith slipped into the conversation smoothly, prompting Paige to pass along her message. The young woman felt that it wasn't just meant for Lorend though.
"Venaith says there is value in being who you are, not who you're not. I don't know if that's her way of agreeing to help or not." Paige made a face and shrugged. "What kind of girly things are you wanting to learn? I don't know if I can teach 'girly' but If I can I'll try!"

"Don't worry, I think I got that covered. Wish I'd thought of this one though." Lorend glanced longingly at the pile of colored shells on the trough of sand. She glanced down at the green sleeping in her lap. Perhaps there was a chance there. She laughed at the question.
"I dunno. Tribleth seems to think there is something though. Keeps telling me to wear a dress and stuff like that." Lorend leaned in and whispered, "I bought one at the last gather to make her happy, but I've no idea what to do with the silly thing." She was honestly more comfortable in pants.
She sat there and blinked at the gold's advice relayed by Paige. "Hu. Well I guess so." Lorend laughed. "Either she will or she won't. Er, well..... you see I don't really know." She glanced away for a moment then looked back. "I spent more time with the boys in the Hold than I did girls." She was hopelessly clueless when it came to dresses, or looking pretty, but could run with the best of the boys.
"I think the hatchings over." Lorend watched the wild fair fly out.

Ryala was heartbroken when the starry blue made his way toward another person. Shards, and he was so amazing! She truly envied whoever the lucky person was. He was, in her opinion, far more amazing than even the gold hatchling!
Well, perhaps she'd Impress a dragon that looked just like him She certainly hoped so. Looking down at the very dark blue flit that she held, she also reassured herself that she wasn't entirely alone. Although, to have Impressed the twilight flit...
