INDENT When Medusa's merry prattling had finally wound down, the brooding zizz finally spoke up to her sister. It was a request that undeniably meant she wanted a word with the naga, but it was worded well and Malkuth had no issue permitting this "walk." When he figured they had both left, the Father of the house continued to enjoy the afternoon tea at his leisure. When he deemed he was finished, he left the table as it was and went into the kitchen to speak with the chef who, by now, had finished cleaning up. He went through the usual pleasantries - words of gratitude, tipping, asking how Medusa was as a student, et cetera and walked the chef to the door. Before parting they solidified plans to conduct one lesson a week. Malkuth stood in the doorway as he listened to the sound of the man's car go down the long driveway and eventually disappear into the normal soft sounds of the yard. He crossed the threshold back inside the house and began to push the door closed when a startling scream from somewhere in the yard broke the peace. That was immediately followed by the sounds of quite a commotion between the two girls. Malkuth opened the door again and steeped outside, listening and trying to ascertain what exactly had happened and what was going on. He could identify Medusa's panicked and stricken cries, insisting along the lines of I didn't mean it, along with a more cryptic rustling and - dare he say - squawking. Whatever had happened, it was apparent that they were now fighting and the scuffle would quickly be upon him. He was caught entirely unprepared and waffled on what he, exactly, should do, though the pace of the naga's frantic slithering outmatched the pace of his mind and he felt her whizz by to seek shelter in the house. The attacked zizz, on the other hand, suddenly went quiet somewhere nearby.

INDENT Malkuth swallowed and pursed his lips momentarily, trying to regain his composure. He knew that the girl was probably startled to see him and be caught in the act of squabbling with the family. Before he could formulate some stern words, she burst out with a defiant, "She bit me! We were just talking and she bit me! And it hurts!" The Father of the house, after hearing her transparent lie, found it easier to properly respond to her. Coldly, he ordered, "Wait for me in the library."

INDENT He then went off to blindly find Medusa, first heading upstairs to check her room. He fully expected that Zephiria would comply and wait in the library lest she suffer a harsher punishment for disobedience, though unbeknownst to him she would collapse shortly after arriving. At the naga's door he found it partly open, knocking politely with the back of his hand. "Medusa, dear, are you in here? Are you hurt?"

I feel like an apology for such a long pause is a bit inadequate, but here we are! If she's not in her room, then he can just wander from room to room until he finds her. No problem.

Medusa
"Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under't"

INDENTAny relief she felt upon escaping to her room was short-lived when Medusa fully realized what had just happened, and what implications such a turn of events held. Curling in on herself and hiding amidst the coils of her tail, she shoved away the snakes that tried to comfort her. She was going to be sent away, and it was their fault. It was all their fault. She whimpered and simpered pathetically as tears streamed down her face. The pain of the scratches on her arms and imminent loss wracked her lithe frame with sobs.

It did not occur to her that this situation could be anyone's fault but her own, with her damn snakes and her ugly deformities. Now more than ever, she loathed her body. If only she had been born normal she wouldn't be here now, about to lose the closest thing to a home she'd ever had.

Her head flew up at the knock, eyes widening in fear. It was happening already. She immediately attempted to stifle her sobs at the sound of her Father's voice. Knowing she had to answer him, she tried to voice affirmation only to have her voice crack, failing her. A second attempt found her more successful. 'Y-yes," was all she managed to wrack out. It did answer both of his questions, so she gave up on further explanation and curled in on herself more tightly, trying to calm down so as not to disgust him further. Her snakes were on guard, hissing at the intruder, and she swatted at them in annoyance, willing them to stop with every fiber of her being.

She slithered backwards as he entered in an attempt to keep him out of striking range, only to wince as she bumped against the furniture, putting unwanted and sudden pressure on the gouges on her arms. Zephiria had really done a number on her. Of course, it was only now that she realized she was bleeding on the carpet. She should have fled to the washroom. Now he'd have to fork out even more money because of her, after all the kindness he had shown her.

    " 'm so-orry," she hacked out, "I-I, I got the c-carpe-et di-i-irty..."

INDENT From the doorway he could hear the little sniffles of his naga as she attempted to compose herself just enough to reply. At hearing her strained confirmation, Malkuth nudged open the door and stepped inside. Though it would have been entirely appropriate to pull his darling daughter into a comforting embrace, the soft hissing of many little snake heads told him it was better to keep his distance. He heard her bump into something a ways from where he had last heard her voice, indicating that she had moved away upon his entering. He entered in a bit further, to where she had been, and knelt to the ground. A bare hand was touched to the carpet to feel for whatever she had blemished it with. It was warm, not clammy, so he could assume it was a bodily fluid and not mud.

INDENT "There, there, Medusa," Malkuth sighed with a disarming smile and a shake of his head. "It is just a carpet. I can get it cleaned and if not, replaced. The wooden floors are also nice, if you want to forgo a carpet entirely."

INDENT Carefully avoiding the area he assumed was stained, he lifted himself off the floor and sat on the edge of her bed. Inevitably he had to ask for her side of the story and, truth be told, he was inclined to believe her more than the snippet of information he had gleaned earlier from Zephiria, given what he knew about the two girls. He started by stating slowly and calmly, "I am not mad. I could never be mad at my children... only disappointed." Malkuth folded his hands in his lap, sitting proper and erect and a bit too authoritarian for what was supposed to be gentleness. "Now, I have to ask you, Medusa. What happened outside just now?"

INDENT All he knew so far was that Medusa's snakes had bitten Zephiria. That seemed to imply that they were in close enough proximity considering that they had not lashed out at anything or anyone since she had come to the house. The logical conclusion he could come to - that some hostility was displayed against the naga - was indeed quite accurate. But what he would learn was that it wasn't as benign as a harmless n** from a garter snake and that they would need to act with urgency to save the life of the zizz downstairs.

Medusa
"Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under't"

INDENTMedusa watched as he touched her blood, spilt on the floor, then came to sit on the bed. She looked up at her Father from where she had again curled into herself as he sat primly, ramrod straight and face unreadable, and asked her what had happened. Zephiria's accusations echoed in her ears as she thought of the past several minutes. She did not want those words to ring true. At the thought of her sister, Medusa recalled the bite mark that was surely searing as they sat here speaking, of the venom that was burning through the zizz's veins. The naga quivered where she was, but took a deep breath and attempted to steady her voice as she recounted what she understood to be true, all the while her fears shadowing her consciousness, and an urgency underlying her tone. "I... I went with Zephiria out to the garden, as she had requested. When we were away from the house, she turned to me and started yelling. Sh-she seems to think that I bear her ill w-will, that I am behaving in a way that will shed her in a negative light, a-and doing so purposefully. When I denied that I had any s-such intent, she..." Medusa paused here, unwilling to do what Zephiria had said and paint her in a bad light, but unable to lie to their Father. "She hit me. O-one of my snakes lashed out and bit her, and... if she doesn't receive treatment for the wound, she'll die!" The naga ended her story here, looking up at the stern, blindfolded face with teary, panicked eyes.

"Please Father, I didn't mean for it to happen! I can't control them! I don't wish my sister any ill will! I-I don't want her to die!"

Whoever said money cannot bring happiness must not know where to shop.
      ___________________________________ absalom ᎷᎪᏞᏦᏌᎢᎻ levite

INDENT Any parent would be pleased to have her as a child, Malkuth couldn't help but think as he could hear the girl gather herself together - at his word - enough to answer him. Her obedience, her ability to conform to her environment, and desire to please was not just from her status as a slave, he noted. Her very nature was probably why he liked her more than the cunning and headstrong Zephiria. No matter his fondness (or lack thereof) for the latter girl, at hearing of her imminent peril Malkuth quickly stood. It would look bad if one of his new possessions should be met with a terrible fate so quickly upon arriving in his care. In his haste he quickly uttered, "I understand. I will take care of it. Stay here."

INDENT Though the more appropriate thing to develop his favorable image would be to stay and comfort Medusa further, he hadn't the time. The man hastened out of the room and down the stairs to find Zephiria - by nearly tripping over her - in the library. She had collapsed and her breathing was quite indicative of her condition. He dropped to the floor beside her to feel for her pulse, noting its weakness.

INDENT It was times like these that reminded him having only one phone in the house was not practical for every day life.

INDENT Up the stairs he went again with swiftness and urgency, bumping into his study door - of course, he had locked it out of mistrust for his two new tenants, damn it - before retreiving the keys from his jacket pocket and bursting in to the room. He found the corded receiver for the phone on his desk without issue and dialed for help. Within minutes, the siren could be heard in the distance, steadily making its way down the long drive to the house. In the meantime, Malkuth went back to Medusa's room, standing in the doorway just enough to consult with her. He knew at least that not all venoms were the same; hopefully hers was similar to an extant species of snake.

INDENT "Medusa, dear," the dear was tacked on quickly for politeness; in his urgency, he had almost been too curt. "Do you know what your venom is? That is, I mean, what type of snake are you most like? The medics must know which to treat her for."

INDENT He didn't like emergencies. They made him lose his composure. Further troubling him was the news that her venom was unique and, of course - of course, of all things! - fatally potent. With a strained smile he requested that she harvest a sample of it somehow before hurrying back down the stairs and returning to Zephiria. He noted that she had steadily worsened. He left her on the ground, not knowing whether it was fine to move her or not, and remained on one knee by her side. He kept her delicate wrist in his hand, feeling her pulse and its steady weakening. The door, unlocked and perhaps even ajar, banged open with the gentleness of a butcher by the emergency team as they came for Zephiria. When asked what happened, Malkuth provided very little information; she was bitten by an exotic snake, was all he would say, and compared to her critical condition, that answer was enough to satisfy them as they rushed her out to their vehicle. With perfect timing, Medusa slithered her way down the stairs with the sample he requested. A bit too roughly in his haste, he snatched it from her and slipped outside, shutting the door behind him to separate Medusa from the activity outside. He gave the sample over to the medics. The medics expected him to come along and unquestioningly and without prior notice to Medusa he climbed inside the vehicle, riding away with them with as much urgency as they had arrived. In the wake of the ambulance, the house with Medusa inside it was left utterly alone and in deafening silence.

INDENT Malkuth had not planned on joining the ambulance on its way to the hospital. He had not planned on leaving a fairly new and currently emotionally distressed slave alone. He had not planned on leaving his office door unlocked and flung open nor had he intended to forget his cane and gloves somewhere in the house. He had not intended for his slaves to bicker with fatal or near-fatal results. His oversights would cost him at least five or six hours at the hospital, when the warmth of the sun had vanished into the coolness of night, leaving him fatigued both physically and mentally from the ordeal. Production of the actual antivenom to neutralize it would take time, but broad-spectrum ones had slowed further damage and with additional medication her vitals had improved. Enough anti-venom to fully neutralize her would take at least a day to produce, but production was already underway. The money to pay for this, of course, was not an issue. Zephiria had improved enough on the generic antivenom to regain consciousness, though to negate the pain she had to be heavily medicated. When they were alone in the room at last, Malkuth let his pleasant facade disappear at last to inform her that she would not be returning home. He would leave her at the hospital and when she was deemed healthy, the Hotel would reclaim her. She was a failure, he said, and he would not accept anything less than perfection in his family. He came up with some elaborate, crowd-pleasing story that of course painted him in a positive light to tell the hospital as to why he would not be returning and as to why someone else would be picking her up when she was better. With his usual charming smile to the hospital staff, he climbed in to the taxi they had called for him and at last was on his way home. He didn't want to even think about what possibly awaited him back at the house.

INDENT Upon arriving, he discovered that he had no cash on him. Deciding he rather not go into the house and then back out, he simply left his designer wrist watch. After all, what use did a blind man have for a wristwatch other than as a fashion accessory? Malkuth finally entered his home after a long day. It was quiet; Medusa had probably cried herself to sleep or run off in guilt and shame. It mattered not at the moment. Though he wanted little more than to go to sleep, he decided first to go into the kitchen to retrieve a bottle of wine and poor himself a glass. Most bottles felt the same; it was only by the aroma after uncorking and pouring it that he identified his selection as a Cabernet Sauvignon. He took both the bottle and glass with him to the west porch, sitting in the darkness on one of the couches. He knew a good wine should properly aerate first for the optimal flavor, but decided to start his glass early anyway.

I got the idea that his community is real small-time and he has them all think he's a clean-business, straight-edge guy who just happens to be rich. So he wouldn't want anyone except other rich people knowing he has exotic slaves.

Medusa
"Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under't"

INDENTShe watched helplessly as he rushed from the room, relieved that he had said he'd take care of the trouble she had caused, but also distraught she had done anything to make him have to rush. She was still where he had left her, wallowing in self-pity when he returned. Her gaze magnetized to the gentleman standing in the doorway, hope daring to spark in her eyes. Her face quickly fell at his words, however, as she had to inform him that her particular venom seemed to be unique. At his request that she collect a sample of the venom, she cast around the room for a suitable vessel. Finding nothing there, she rushed to the bathroom where there was a cup by the sink. Opening her mouth, she extended her fangs and willed her venom to flow. After far too long a time, she had a suitably sized sample, and rushed downstairs to deliver it to her Father.

"Father, I've the sample you asked for," she announced as she approached. He promptly snatched the cup for her before rushing outside and slamming the door behind him. She felt tears well up in her eyes as she watched him go. He was surely angry with her. Her stifled sobs echoed in the sudden silence as she curled in on herself.

The naga remained there for hours before finally the darkened room caused her to look around. Surely Father would return? It must be that the treatment for Zephiria was taking a long time. He would not leave her here indefinitely by choice. He was much too responsible a man. A snake nuzzled her hand and she batted it away. She was still upset with them, with what their presence had done. If she were sent away because of them... the thought caused her eyes to well with tears. Turning quickly, she hurried up the stairs to the bathroom where she dug frantically through the cupboards. Surely, somewhere in the room she would find what she was looking for. Surely...

With a cry of triumph she straightened, a pair of barber scissors clutched in her small hands. Slithering into the tub, she grabbed a snake at the base of it's tail and looked between it and the scissors for a long few minutes before reaching up and cutting through the hair that held it to her head. The snake began to writhe and she dropped it into the tub in shock, watching as it wriggled and hissed before finally growing still. Slowly reaching up, she touched a shaking hand to the newly snake-free hair. The others were hissing in distress, trying to placate her with nuzzles, or dissuade her with bites. They did not succeed. Frenzied, she cut them from her body, one by one, until the tub was filled with dead snakes and finally, the room around her was truly silent.

She was still, looking down at their lifeless forms numbly, the scissors hanging limp from her fingers. Her shoulders, arms and hands stung where the snakes had bitten her in frenzied aggression. As full realization of what she had just done settled around her, she dropped the scissors, hands flying to shield her face as she stared in numb horror at the scene she had made. Trembling, she slithered out of the tub and into the room she had claimed as her own, settling on the bed and curling up there. Finally, exhausted, she fell into a deep sleep.

INDENT Two glasses had abated his stress; the third was declaring he should go to sleep. After lingering in the west porch for almost an hour in the quiet and the dark, Malkuth rose from his comfortable place and made his way back through the house. First he returned to the kitchen, finding the cork and stuffing in partways back into the bottle. He left it on the counter and took the remainder of his third glass up to his bedroom. After an incredibly long day, he was finally able to remove his clothes, draping them over a chair by the door far away from him as if they carried some disease (given that he had been in the hospital, that was not improbable). His blindfold soon joined his clothes and he changed into silk pajamas almost as nice as his daytime apparel. Finally ready for bed, he slipped under the covers of his bed - too large for just one person - and fell promptly asleep, his wine glass still on the nightstand.

INDENT Morning came at the usual time for Malkuth. He awoke to a house just as quiet as it was when he had gone to sleep. Had Medusa truly fled? Or was she merely laying low? In case she had indeed stayed, he began his morning as usual; cooped up in the master bedroom to prepare for the day. First some diligent dental hygiene followed by the call of nature, then a shower, then shave if needed; once dried off as thoroughly as a thick, fluffy towel could manage, he plucked a fresh suit from his closet (no need for any tough decision on which one to pick; they were all the same color to eliminate the need for identifying his possible choices, the only variations being the subtle differences in ties) and dressed himself. Remembering that his usual blindfold needed to be... decontaminated... he fetched another one from his bedside table, this one likely plain black. Malkuth couldn't risk unnerving someone with oogly-eyes, now could he?

INDENT Ready for the day, the master of the house finally left his bedroom . Once outside the now locked door, he lingered for a moment before deciding to check a few things. After all, he had left the house unexpectedly the previous day. He checked the doors on the second floor, finding his office ajar. It was promptly closed and locked. His fingers trailed along the wall to Zephiria's room, finding it also ajar. He pushed it open gently, entering. His fingers trailed along the surface of the large pieces of furniture, feeling for any objects of hers he would have to... collect. There wasn't much, fortunately. If Medusa was still around, nearly all of it could go to her. He felt the bed and found it unmade, granted it was not terribly disheveled; that was quickly fixed. He left that bedroom with its door open, following the wall to Medusa's room next. He listened at the door, finding it quiet. Poised at the door, Malkuth listened as he weighed his options. Push his way into a girl's room - his daughter's room - just to check if she was there? What would he do, wake her? Call to her? Reach out and feel for her, hoping her snakes would not strike? No, all of the above was uncouth. He would wait. If she was still there, she would rise before noon. He continued on. As he approached the end of the upstairs foyer, towards the girls' bathroom, a foul odor accosted him. It was not a smell one would associate with any activities of a bathroom. Unbeknownst to him it was not even near its peak pungency yet the smell of a dead creature was still an nasty thing he had never encountered before, though he was no stranger to death. Steeling his nerves, he entered the bathroom with caution...

INDENT ...and left it in shock and alarm, closing the door quite roughly behind himself. What in the world--?! Forget courtesy, he had to check on Medusa now. Malkuth went to her door and boldly into her room. His instinct was to approach her bed, but managed to stop short in the middle of her room. Perhaps it was best not to approach her. "Medusa," he called, with a hint of apprehension he would rather have not shown. "Dear, my dear daughter..."

INDENT He did not even know what to say or how to start.

Medusa
"Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under't"

INDENTThe naga has slept deeply, dreamlessly, and long. She was only starting to rise from the depths of the deep, dark comfort that was her restful self when the opening of her door and a call of her name roused her. She blinked blearily and rubbed at her eyes as she sat up, her attention drawn to her father standing in the middle of the room looking very, very concerned. It was the concern she did not understand. She had been bad, she had made her sister feel poorly and provoked her, she had cost him his valuable time and money. Why would he be concerned for someone as troublesome as her? The lack of shifting, drowsy forms around her head drew her attention. What... oh. Right. She had severed their ties to her yesterday. She had killed the snakes. She was no longer held back by them. Her head felt light without their constant weight. She was reveling in this when she realized that she had yet to answer the man standing in her room.

"I'm here, Father," she managed as once again the dread settled across her shoulders. It did not register that he had called her 'dear'. She was waiting for anger, for discipline, for everything she knew she deserved. What happened instead surprised her.

INDENT Good. She was awake. Malkuth moved closer to her, slowly and cautiously. Not hearing any of her telltale hissing, he came to sit at the edge of her bed, closer to her tail than properly next to her body.

INDENT "Tell me... What have you done in the bathroom? To yourself?" There was a sense of reproach to his voice, befitting a parent about to scold a chid. To be honest, he was not as upset at her self-mutilation as he was the toll it would pay on the bathroom; to clean it, to disinfect it, to air it out... and hopefully he hadn't stepped in anything and trailed it! He hadn't even thought to check his shoes.

INDENT After hearing her answer - minimal as it was, out of fear of his reaction or perhaps shame, he assumed - and after a moment of pursed-lipped thought, he pressed her further with a curt, "And your reason for doing that?"

INDENT And she divulged her reasoning, sound as it was. Her Father gave a heavy sigh and rubbed at his temple through his blindfold, thinking of the proper way to discipline a precious child who had meant well but had not quite thought things through fully. He also thought of how to craft a response that not only delivered punishment, but also continued his favorable image.

INDENT "...Very well. What you do with your own body if not for me to say." He lied through his teeth. Fortunately, it was her snake tail that was her main draw as an unusual specimen with her unique poison now an interesting second draw. Her head-snakes were inconsequential. One hand reached out to her boldly, finding her head with ease and running his fingers through her now choppy hair. It was quite soft. He retracted his hand and stood up, making himself more authoritarian and somewhat more imposing in the process. "But you are mistaken if you think I will stand for the mess you left in the bathroom. I urge you to pick up after yourself next time, should you have to do that again. I will arrange to have a hairdresser fix your hair. Excuse me."

INDENT With that, Malkuth left the room to take refuge in his office so he could make a call. He did have a hairdresser on call, of course, the one that would touch up his hair every three weeks to maintain his perfect silver. Perhaps he would get his roots done a bit early this time...

Yup, I remember that we planned that she would lose her snakes... but I thought she would get a haircut ad get them trimmed off. I didn't think she would cut them off herself! But like I said, that's quite an interesting spin.

Medusa
"Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under't"

INDENTShe watched warily as Malkuth came to sit on the edge of her bed, twitching her tail out of the way as he did.
"Tell me... What have you done in the bathroom? To yourself?" The naga was taken aback. She had not expected this and yet... she probably should have. Uncertainty tainted her every word as she answered. "I... I cut off my snakes at the base." She tried not to tremble as she watched for his reaction. His measured, quiet words weighed heavily upon her.

"And your reason for doing that?" She swallowed in an attempt to wet her suddenly dry throat. "I didn't want anyone else to be hurt because of them. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if it happened again. I... I never had any control over them, and I doubt I ever would have. I just wanted them g-gone." She felt shame and guilt as her Father sighed and rubbed at his temple, obviously troubled by her actions. She had caused him much more trouble than she could possibly be worth, and this, as she was starting to realize, was another thing she had done horribly wrong. She did her best to stay silent as he spoke.

"...Very well. What you do with your own body if not for me to say." She knew this was a falsity, created to put her at ease. She was not her own person. She belonged to him. Her body, all that she was, was his. She had been wrong. Medusa flinched as he reached out and gently, almost tenderly ran his fingers through her shorn locks. She watched through swimming eyes as he stood, firm and strong and everything a good father should be. Everything she was undeserving of for behaving the way she had. "But you are mistaken if you think I will stand for the mess you left in the bathroom. I urge you to pick up after yourself next time, should you have to do that again. I will arrange to have a hairdresser fix your hair. Excuse me." With that brief scolding, he was gone. She remained on her bed, shocked. He had not scolded her for what she had thought she would be severely punished for. He had shown mercy to a being as stupid and ugly and undeserving as her. He had told her where she had been wrong in his eyes, and was actually going to spend more money on her, despite the trouble she had caused. She burst into tears, a bittersweet mix of relief, and guilt overcoming her.

The naga cried for a long time before finally rising. She knew what she must do to at least begin to repay the kindness she had been shown. She slithered down to the kitchen to find garbage bags, rags and a cleaning bucket before returning to the bathroom. She would clean up after herself. It was all she could do. She started by stuffing the corpses in the bags and tying them off before opening the window. She lugged the heavy bags down the stairs and outside to wait at the side of the house until she could find the garbage. She returned indoors, and after a hunt came up with some vinegar. Uncertain whether it would be alright to use the liquid to clean, she debated for a while before putting it back. It was probably a high-quality ingredient, and she should not waste it on the mess she had made in her bathroom. Instead, she made do with scalding hot water, soap and elbow grease. By the time she was done her hands were red and aching, and the wounds on her arms had opened and bled sluggishly several times. Hands shaking, she gently wiped at the cuts with cool water and a washcloth before rinsing out the material thoroughly and hanging it to dry. Finally, she took the rags and bucket back downstairs and put them where they belonged. Slithering back outside, she hunted for the garbage, but finding nothing gave up and went back inside to wash up and prepare tea.

INDENT After arranging an emergency house-call appointment with his usual hairdresser for later that night, Malkuth remained in his office for a bit longer. He was not beyond the reach of the quiet, distant sounds of Medusa's cleaning. When she had left the floor for the second time and it appeared she was done cleaning, he shuffled into the hall and poked his head into the bathroom in an attempt to ascertain the situation. The air was fresh, indicating that the window was currently or had been open. Touching a hand to the counter, to the walls, to the floor, he gathered from the smoothness that things were probably cleaned. After all, only a fool or an ungrateful child would have done a sloppy job... and Medusa was neither of those.

INDENT He headed down the stairs and paused at the landing, listening. Hearing nothing obvious that would indicate Medusa's whereabouts, Malkuth headed to the west porch to sit and think for a bit. With Zephiria not returning, it was just him and Medusa. As delightfully obedient as she was, he could see things getting stale quite quickly. Certainly, he could take her to events and parties to show her off to all the other high society socialites (he planned to eventually, once she was properly cultured). But the gaps between those events needed to be filled with more than just tea and the adoring eyes and ears of a loving daughter. Usually that spice he so craved came in the form of a girl that would object to his efforts to fit them into a proper high class mould, but to go crawling back to another slave market after having returned one would be humiliating! He had to work with what he had. But with Medusa so compliant, how would he relieve himself from the day to day doldrums? He supposed, perhaps, if he really pushed her to do things that any one would be uncomfortable with...

INDENT The quiet sound of fine porcelain clinking together signalled that Medusa was still around, and probably in the kitchen or somewhere around there. Figuring out how to stir the pot would come later; first he had to make some progress with culturing her and increasing her dependency!

Sooo... I know it's been a while... I understand if you've lost interest. Just had to write something to try to get back into it. I got a job and I transferred to a proper university and I am so friggin busy, but I just finished a final project so I wanted to celebrate by posting something!

Medusa
"Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under't"

INDENTMedusa was carefully preparing a pot of tea for two. Relying on what she had been taught what felt like ages ago, but was in fact only the day before, she had set the kettle to boil.

Next, she got out the teapot and carefully set it on the counter. She set a strainer over the top of the pot and carefully measured out the loose leaf. One spoonful for each cup of tea to be served, and one for the pot.

Then came the tray of milk, sugar and honey. She retrieved the tray and its vessels, and checked first that there was enough sugar and honey in their respective pots. Satisfied, she moved on.

She was carefully pouring milk into the matching small pitcher when she heard footsteps approaching, and stopped what she was doing to face the only other person who lived on the estate- her Father.

"Father," she greeted nervously. "I'm preparing a pot of Earl Grey tea. If- if it would please you, I could serve it in the dining room."

OOC: Mallyyyyyyy! It's been awhile since I last logged in, but I'm glad I did, because it meant seeing a post from you. ;w; I knew you'd be back eventually! The reply is short, but there wasn't much I could do with just her preparing tea.

INDENT Ah, what a wonderful child, to extend herself so readily! Maalkuth gave his usual small smile, as subtle as it was charming. He answered, "I would be most appreciative."

INDENT With that, he reported to the dining room to await his tea. Once she had set up a proper tea service and had seated herself, Malkuth informed her that he had made the arrangements for her hair to be tidied up by a professional hairdresser that evening - 7 sharp. He made no further mention of her drastic action that previous night (or had it been morning?) nor did he mention the bathroom. Instead, he began, "I have been thinking... There are certain skills that are befitting for a daughter of mine to have. To prepare a thoughtful and appetizing meal is one of those skills, and you have already begun to learn this. Another skill is to create beautiful music. What do you think, dear Medusa? Would this interest you?"

INDENT Of course it would. His predictions were never wrong; or at least, he always managed in the end to get his way, somehow. At her confirmation of interest, he asked what instrument she would like to learn. Her answer, though unexpected, pleased him. "The harp; a fine choice, as expected. I will find a reputable instructor as soon as possible. Thirdly... well, perhaps it would be best to start with those two for now." Or, rather, it would be more effective to catch you off-guard with those other ones. "I wouldn't want to overwhelm you so soon after joining my household. If you have some time once a day, could I ask you to help with the housekeeping? I hope you can understand that it is not always easy for me do certain tasks like dusting or sweeping. And I wouldn't trust a stranger to be going about all the corners of the house, understandably..."

INDENT Literacy, articulation, and looking good were among the other things he wanted from her. Articulation and literacy would go hand-in-hand; what better way to practice both and get some "bonding" in was there other than having her read aloud certain literary works for him? Speaking confidently and with proper articulation (in addition to looking presentable) would be key to impressing other affluent slaveholders, should he take her to a high society function. It was not unnoticed that nervousness affected her speech; it was somewhat endearing around him but around others it wouldn't be so. As for working on her looks, certainly he would have to set aside time for plenty of shopping and maybe a fashion consultant or two.
