This isn't always the case. My friend just royally betrayed me last year and it's about to happen again, so I'm a little weary. Also my other friends are being annoying about something that's supposed to be in celebration of my birthday. Needless to say I'm hurt.

That may be so but like you said, you are unsure if the resentment is valid and therefor it sounds like you don't really trust them
