Physical Description | Kaede is a monstrous individual, towering even over most of the tallest men. She is tall and toned, being moderately curvy with a slightly below proportionate breast size and a slightly larger than proportionate rear. Deep bronze skin is stretched taught across her frame, her golden eyes gleaming viciously from their sockets. Raven black hair drapes down to the middle of her back, usually being worn parted slightly to the side, allowing it to flow free. She has sharp, angular features, having extraordinarily compact muscles to make her body lean and flexible. She has a white, crude sun tattooed between her shoulder blades, something that remained on her body from her human life. Along with the sun, there is a white and red shaded japanese maple tree that goes from her left foot up to her left knee, having very little black undertones, being mostly red and white. Otherwise, she has small scars that cover her entire body, though from a distance her skin looks flawless. The only area of her body unmarred by scars is her face.
Wardrobe | Unlike most shinigami, Kaede has resolved to wear what she wishes, and being the Captain of the Gatekeepers she doesn't have much people breathing down her neck about her wardrobe choices. Most of the time, she wears a fully body, black, skintight suit, thick and plated for protection [x]. Even though she usually wears this, she also is often seen wearing the standard uniform over it, though even her uniform has some modifications. xxxKaede is odd, to say the least, especially for one who holds the title of Gatekeeper of the Northern Gate. While she can be serious and leadership material one moment, she can turn around and be the most non-chalant and carefree person. She can often be found staring off into space or daydreaming, enjoying a cigarette and pondering on the happenings of the world. Often thought of as a hippie, she has a very intense nurturing instinct, and can also be a really good friend to those who can put up with her darker side. While she is often times mild mannered and serene, she has an opposite side to herself that is completely insane. When angered, frustrated, or in anyway upset, she gets hysterical and ruthless, gaining an impressive bloodlust and rage. While she tries to keep this reserved for her enemies, it sometimes slips out and she rips off only a few heads. Regardless of her mindset, regardless of what her personality would lead one to assume, she has an above genius IQ and is extraordinarily perceptive; not one to miss or forget details. She does, however, often times forget to use her vast intelligence outside of battle, allowing her to be normal in everyday situations.

"Take a moment to reflect..." Chapter One Rebirth
Time Frame? 1013 years ago
"What is this place?! And why won't any of you help me!?!"
Kaede came to be in a relatively dark area of Rukongai, not finding any help among it's inhabitants as to why she was in this place. After getting beat up for no reason, she understood that this was a world that you had to fight to live in, so she stood up, spat the blood in her mouth onto the ground, and set off to conquer the place. She began fighting, having inherited a monstrous body, that with some dedication and training, she was able to make into a combative machine. Quickly making a name for herself, she finally began to move through the lower districts, fighting less to make more, continually moving to find a better life. After winning a few fights in one particular area one afternoon, one of her friend/fans pointed out someone attacking one of the noble families' guardsman, shrieking that she intervene and save the man. While she tried, she didn't have a weapon and wasn't able to stop the attacker from killing the other man. She did, however, have time to retrieve the fallen man's blade and use it with surprising skill to demolish through her opponent, which multiplied when his buddies joined in. After the fighting was over, she had received a single small cut to her left shoulder, and though exhausted from the long fight, she was victorious. That was the day the people in the slums of Rukongai began calling her the "Burning Maple", and for a while she couldn't go anywhere without being known.
Chapter Two Fame to Infamy
Time Frame? 900 years ago
"Oh come on, it was just a little bit o'blood, man..."
Things were going well in Kaede's young life; she wasn't aging, she was a woman of the people, she was beginning to get into the good areas of Rukongai without being shooed away; it was getting to be a pretty decent life. Known to be a protector, she was often a blade for hire by those who needed vengeance against the criminals that wronged them, often doing work for no pay. This was when she was visited by a older man with fading red-orange hair, wearing an expensive cloak and holding a large, decorated odachi. He looked her over and said she was not yet ready, and proceeded to just as mysteriously saunter off, disappearing once more. Right afterward, she was accused of stealing from the most wealthy merchant in the highest district she was allowed entrance into. Even though she had committed no such crime, and there was no evidence that she did, the guards were set on her. Without flinching, she slaughtered them as they approached with their weapons drawn, her skill obviously greater than theirs. When more guards got involved she was eventually forced to flee, though she somehow was able to move faster than she though possible through the slums to get to a safe area. After resting, she wandered into the bordering forest that was widely untraveled during those times to work on whatever she did when she was escaping the guards from earlier.
Chapter Three Drowning in Blood
Time Frame? 573 years ago
"Is there no forgiveness for my sins?"
Hundreds of years went by at this point, now being known infamously as "The Crimson Breeze" throughout most of the Districts in Rukongai. Because the slums began to be swept looking for her, a few years ago she had to resort to sneaking into the richer areas of Rukongai using her speed technique to hide out for a few hours, or at least until it was night time and she could travel in Rukongai without suspicion. Since she had first been framed for a crime that she was pretty sure she was innocent of committing, it was regular for her to fight groups of both criminals and guards alike where ever she went, not receiving any special treatment for being a woman anymore. She honestly enjoyed it at first, maybe for the first hundred years or so; the blood lust had consumed her, and fighting was a willing effort for her; but now, she only prayed that something would come by and take her away from the hell she had somehow stumbled into. That was when she was ambushed by one of the stronger guard squads, being knocked from her perch on the room down into the square, the higher-class citizens scurrying to hide from the rumble going on outside. Kaede stood, drawing her sword in vain when all in front of her had been slaughtered, the man from all of those years ago standing in front of her once again. He tapped her on the shoulder and waved her on, following him blindly into the sunset. She would later find out that this man was an ancient warrior hand-picked to protect this place, and she was to be the Soul to carry on his legacy. Accepting, she continued behind him, eager to begin her training.
Chapter Four This Wasn't a Good Idea
Time Frame? 375 years ago
"Are you psychotic, or just trying to kill me? AND MY EYES ARE UP HERE."
Deciding to move in with the man was a...bad idea to say the least. The training she was receiving was literally destroying her body, which he spent the majority of the time fixing up, and she wasn't seeming to make any progress. They lived in seclusion, far away from prying eyes or any wandering souls, mostly because the old man was undoubtedly insane and ruthless. She stayed with him just due to the fact that she could feel his power, plus he explained to her what that ability she knew was; shunpo. He was greatly surprised she had been able to learn it, let alone become as proficient as she displayed during sparring sessions. Though that was long ago, a little over a hundred years; now, he was just as insane but at least 1000x more ruthless, literally almost killing her only to bring her back to life before her permanent demise. Her training often consisted of training over hot coals and low fires these days for whatever reason, also facing the monumental release of her Master's spiritual energy along with it. She could tell he was getting older and weaker, but his power wasn't subsiding; only his body. She knew he was starting to run out of time, so she was going to have to push herself in order to get up to his specifications before his final slumber. Taking a solemn vow, she tossed away all possible reasons to doubt the man and swore to become what he needed her to become.
Chapter Five Truly an Apprentice
Time Frame? 203 years ago
"Will I ever be good enough to fill your shoes? Will I ever do anything right?!"
So she had started to wonder when she would crack probably a few weeks after she took her vow, though she was too determined then to give up and try to become great on her own. Silently undergoing unrelenting torture and humiliation, eventually almost dying multiple times a day as the man's life quickly began to fade. She had mastered almost 200 Kido, has mastered her Hoho techniques, obtained a proper blade and learned it's name and mastered it's first form; in her mind, she was doing well. But her training was getting harder and harder to complete, and less and less l benefit began to come from her training. And so, now, she has cracked, snapped, gone off the deep end; why had she spent hundreds of years working relentlessly toward something that she obviously was never meant for? Why was she forced to burn in the heat of his flames when, regardless of how long she was roasted, the finished product was always unsatisfactory? Exploding, the house was obliterated around them, finally learning another fun new trait to being a shinigami; rage-induced bankai releases.
Chapter Six Northern Guard of the Burning Gate
Time Frame? Recently
"Just an update, so I don't forget..."
Well, training had finally paid off; she had practiced with the man for as long as he could train her, and near the end of his life she helped nurse him through his illness to help her get over the negative emotions she had pitted against her Master. Before his life was extinguished, he had enough energy to make the tip to meet with the Soul King, Justice Chief, and War Chief to announce his passing the mantle of Northern Guard of the Burning Gate to the young woman, asking her to prove her talent to the (practically)deities that stood before her. While they were impressed, the War Chief analyzed her blade and took her with him, reforging it to make it stronger and up to current specifications. After being tested with her new blade, and surprisingly passing, she was granted the title as Gatekeeper and sent on her way. When arriving back in Soul Society, she had just enough time to get to her Master's house after leaving to go get food to say her last goodbyes, his illness finally claiming his life. But now, working for the new system that was put in place, being a Gatekeeper was never so not lonely; not that she would know, but seeing as whatever ancient being that was Gatekeeper before her obviously spent most of his time far away from society, willing to risk protecting from afar for the good of the people. With how many people were apart of this organization, however, she knew it was better to stick around. And hey, there was an actual gate that needed patrolling, was there not? Now, it's time to push her luck at the first possible positive experience since she was known as the "Burning Maple" (now known as the Northen Mountain).

English Translation | Sun Droplet
Zanpakutō Element | Water//Light
Zanpakutō Spirit | Taiyo Shizuku takes the form of a Water Satyr, often accompanied by three three-eyed ravens, their wings having white tips. The whites of his eyes are extremely bloodshot, though his blood appears to be a deep blue, almost black, making the veins look black, and his skin look purple. His eyes glow a mesmerizing golden, popping from their dark background. The horns that grow an inch or so above his temples help keep his hair slicked backward, sporting the black locks at shoulder length. He has an unsettingly deep and soothing voice, though he is actually a very nice zanpakuto. Underneath this light, however, is a sea of darkness, which is always looking for an excuse to bubble up to the surface.
Zanpakutō Inner World | Taiyo Shizuku's inner world is slightly complex. The general setting is a singular island in the middle of a midnight blue sea; the waters after a couple hundred feet fading into a thick light gray mist, the rest of the world blurred in this fog. The island has a beach area, being comprised of mostly large jutting rocks that eventually lead from water in their depths to sand, growing to an actual beach a few feet away from the edge of the dense forest, the trees being black wood with bright crimson leaves. All of the plants fit this description, the flowers and leaves having a thin white trim along the edges. At the center of the forest, there is a temple the size of a mountain rising from the mass, appearing to be covered in frost. The white marble the temple is made of is a series of stairs to the top, where there is a slight indention where the main sparring and meditation area is located. This is completely covered in ice, and a cloud of fog clouds the edges and the rest of the island whenever someone is on top of the temple.

Zanpakutō Activation Statement | "Reflect..."
Zanpakutō Blade Changes | Upon releasing shikai, the sealed blade seems to flash into an icicle before turning into mist, recollecting into a blue-hilted katana with a chainsaw blade. There always seems to be mist coming from the blade, creating a trail from between each of the individual blades. The chain rotates at speeds correlating to how much reiatsu she pushes into the blade. Also, a miniature three-eyed raven is also summoned, though it has white-lined wings that also emit the same mist as the zanpakuto, Kaede being able to use her abilities through this raven as well. However, if it leaves a 30ft. radius of her person it dissipates into mist before reforming when it gets within the required distance.
Shikai Abilities
Ability One 鎖切り立てる (Kusari Kiritateru)- "Chain Slash"
xxxThe main ability of her shikai. Taiyo Shizuku creates large amounts of mist from the blade, which Kaede can use to create water and ice based attacks on a large scale. But because the blade requires large amounts to create enough mist for water/ice attacks, she generally chooses to save it until she's slashing at the opponent. Water based attack contain around 75 gallons of water, where ice attacks, which require both hands on the hilt produce around 150 gallons to compensate for decreased surface mass. Even though the mass of the attack might be great, she often compacts the water attacks into a size of 25 gallons and the ice attack into a size of 50 gallons of ice, making the attacks seem more dense.
Ability Two 極線霊気 (Kyokuzen Reiki)- "Polar Aura"
xxxBy manipulating the water vapor constantly pluming from the blade, she has the ability to both manipulate it in steam/mist form, liquid, and solid forms. This means she has a large range of attacks that she can utilize, especially by adding reiatsu in the blade. By "revving" the blade while standing still, she can harmonize the energy from her zanpakuto and her own reiatsu pools, creating a semi-transparent white barrier around her that acts as a shield that can withstand moderate-strong attacks from Captain ranked opponents. The longer she revs the blade, the stronger and large the shield can get, though the energy it takes for it to be able to expand to more than her takes a monumental amount of energy. Otherwise it can be toggle summoned over just her blade in order to act as a bat/shield of sorts in emergency situations.
Ability Three 寒気光線 (Samuke Kosen)- "Frost Ray"
xxxSamuke Kosen allows Kaede to charge and fire focused beams of light from her hands, feet, mouth, fingers, and with intense focus her left eye. The light's size and intensity depends greatly on how long she has to charge the attack, the lower attacks being thinner and less intense, the more charged the more intense. When struck by the beam, it initially feels like one is being burned by the light ray, but instead the area hit is being flash frozen, forming thick permafrost on the target. The second half of this ability utilizes her ability to create ice; these rays of light, though they must travel in a linear fashion, can bounce off of ice mirrors until they strike their intended target. Also, if a mirror is charged with enough of her reishi from physical contact, the glint off the blade of the average zanpakuto will set off a trap flash of the same sort, looking to stun the target with a harsh but brief flash of the attack.

Zanpakutō Name | 暗黒神聖な太陽滴 (Ankoku Shinseina Taiyo Shizuku)
English Translation | Shadow Hallowed Sun Droplet
Bankai Appearance | Once released, Taiyo Shizuku's chain shatters, the blades arcing back and digging into her arm, the handle thrashing about as it revved on it's own, the blade rushing into her body like a nurse was trying to give her an IV. Once the handle disappears into her arm her body flashes white before solidifying black, the other layer cracking off and flaking to the ground, revealing her new form. She gains almost a full body suit of armor in her release: Her pauldrons and gauntlets seems to be swollen at the joints, where the bare areas are plated metal layered to look like muscle formations. Her hands have blades with concentrated edging on the nails, the tips being hollow. From her wrists she can sport 31" katana shaped blades along her arm, having the same chain blade from her shikai. Also, from the swollen joints on the armor she can shoot 10 chain tendrils from each elbow and shoulder, having control over their movement in the air until their 75ft. max distance is reached, when they seem to instantaneously retract, causing Kaede to slide backward slightly. The plated muscles on her arms can also sport blades from their folds for armoring purposes. The armor plating her legs is more bulky, but in order to store a massive amount of blades. The width of each leg is quadrupled in her armor, making her 1'8" taller. She can summon the largest blades in her arsenal from vertical slits running down both the fronts and black of her leg armor, these being her main blades of choice. Her lower legs have two more slits beginning at the knee, increasing the blade width, and five at the foot, increasing it further. The bottom of her feet are just 1' wide treads of chainsaw, which can be utilized for movement purposes. The armor is streamlined in a deep royal blue trimmed with gold around the vents that heavily cover her leg and arm joints, midnight blue and charcoal blended through the rest to give it an organic/cybernetic look.

Other than her chain attack/utilizing her vents, she has no other range attacks and has to rely strictly on melee-based combat.
Even though the suit can increase her movement speed, her reaction speed is slowed slightly due to the bulkiness of the armor.

Immense amount of blades covering all four of her lanky appendages.
Immense amount of fog/mist can be produced from these blades like in shikai, which she can also manipulate into water/ice attacks.
Bankai Abilities
Ability One 霜刃 (Shimo Ha)- "Frost Blade"
xxxSeeing as her bankai's main form of weaponry are the blades that cover her arms and legs, her primary ability utilizes said blades and their innate ability to produce mist. By revving and of the chains on her body, she can produce large plumes of thick smoke-like mist, which can then be utilized to enhance the strength of the blades. By adding heated air, ice, and cool water to the tracks of the blades, the attacks have roughly double the power behind them. This ability can be used from all of the blades on her body, including her wrist blades, elbow/shoulder cannon chains, leg blades, even out of the vents on her nail-tips. Because the ability can be activated on any chain or blade, this ability also has the option of being used defensively, by concentrating mist/water/ice over the blades during an incoming attack to lessen the damage done to her armor and herself. Her water production has been increased up to 250 gallons, where she can produce up to 500 gallons of ice, but the total quantity is now stretched over two posts.
Ability Two 拍動鉄道 (Hakudo Tetsudo)- "Pulsating Railway"
xxxThis ability, like the first, effects the blades of her armor. Though, instead of adding to the blades, this ability makes the base blades faster, more efficient, and more powerful for a short amount of time. By activating this ability, the blades stop producing mist when revving by instead producing light energy, making the blades glow a brilliant white. The blades can spin twice as fast with the same amount of energy, though the stress can be seen on the armor by the thick black smoke that can be seen pouring out of the vents. Also, if elbow/shoulder chainblades are used while this is activated, they'll shatter and fly forward, acting like a shotgun projectile. While this ability is strong, it can only be used three times per bankai release, though it lasts for two posts. During this time, she can not create any water or ice, though she can manipulate whatever is in the air and what's left in the environment around her.
Ability Three 水犯罪藩主 (Mizu Hanzai Hanshu)- "Water's Crime Lord"
xxxThe final ability of her bankai, where the armor on her arms and legs is fundamentally affected. When activated, the armor appears to begin to peel off before the loose blades begin to tear the suit apart by revving so fast, the blades impaling her body and being absorbed. At the end, she's wearing her normal uniform with no changes, though her clothes are sufficiently torn for some reason. In this form, her body constantly emits a light mist, which can be used to telekinetically control water based substances (ice, mist, smoke, etc). Along with that, she can produce chainsaw blades made of pure light energy over her skin at any time, it being a toggle ability. Other than the blades on her body, she is left with no other weapon and is left without sufficient blocking ability. This ability can only last for seven posts when activated, the dexterity of the blades weakening each post until they're normal bankai strength attacks before deactivating, forcing her back into her sealed form with enough reiryoku left to make an escape if need be.
Bankai Duration | It varies, depending on how Kaede budgets her reiryoku, but once Mizu Hanzai Hanshu is activated 7 posts.

Shinigami Abilities
Zanjutsu | Sword combat is easily her most familiar and preferred form of combat, probably because she's insanely skilled with her blade. Even as a young Soul in Rukongai, she was able to wield a sword to protect herself and others when needed her to. Now, as the head of the Gatekeepers, her skill has exponentially advanced, though her hakuda does come close in proficiency.
Hakuda | Though she studied the basics on the streets of Rukongai, she's had to adapt her fighting style to her lithe form and close-quater zanpakuto. Her hakuda skills are equally skilled with her legendary zanpakuto skills. Even though she's light, her main tactics are utilizing her strength and her impeccable speed to compliment her more fluid fighting style.
Hohō | An ability she was able to find out and get proficient with was Shunpo, long before ever learning anything from the previous Gatekeeper. Now, having trained with a legendary shinigami for a few hundred years, has become a master of the technique.
Durability | Though Kaede is very tall and very lithe, the training she endured during the process in becoming the Gatekeeper of the Northern Gate has made her far more durable than the other Gatekeepers, even.
Reiryoku | As the leader of the Gatekeepers, Kaede's reiryoku is immensely powerful, to the point where powerful negative emotions can destroy the environment around her without meaning to. Even though it's extremely large, even for her rank, her training has given her decent skill in controlling it in any situation.

SHIKAI
My only concern lies in the third ability.

"The second half of this ability utilizes the mirrors of Kagami Senko"
I maybe have missed something while reading this, but where do these mirrors come from exactly? I don't see any former mention of mirrors here.
BANKAI
I love the concept and think everything is balanced and well-worked.

Fuuuuuuuuuu- I thought I edited the shikai stuff out beforehand and I THOUGHT I MADE A POINT TO NOT INCLUDE THE ACADEMY /le sigh/ but all edits have been completed, madame. (:
