Jack seated himself upon the ledge of a waist high wall. He had figured that that was enough walking for now and that it was now very much time for a quick smoke break, and by quick that meant however long he wanted because he certainly wasn't in any hurry for anything.
He took his pack of cigarettes from a pocket as well as a matchstick and proceeded to light up.
If he was lucky no one'd hassle him about the dangers of smoking and how it was bad for everyone around him and blahblahblah.
He didn't care.

Alex walked along one of the thicker branches until she was almost at the end. She never went all the way to the end because she knew that for a number of reason it could not support her weight. Once she was as close to the edge as possible she crouched down. Her tail waved to and fro as she was in a constant state of balanced. Her ears flickered and she sniffed the air. It was whatever ever that man had in his mouth that had attracted her attention. She had seen it before but most were never in a position she could get close to them. It wasn't like she could scamper up to one of them, knock them over, and check them out.

It was likely the creaking sound of a nearby tree that caught his attention, but it was hard to tell since all he moved was his eyes, at least at first. Slowly his head tilted up as he took a quiet drag and then he exhaled a smoke ring.
"...Any particular reason you're starin'? If you took a picture it'd last longer y'know." He drawled out at the girl on the branch.
He was pretty impressed she could stand on that part of the branch like she was, but that was about all Jack was impressed with.

"I was just curious about that thing in your mouth." Alex's ears laid back. Something about this guy. She couldn't put her finger on it. But something was off. "I'm sure if I took a picture it wouldn't smell the same."

"Anyone ever tell you that curiosity and cats don't get along, Kid?" He drawled as he observed the cigarette held between the unwieldy seeming claws that made up his hand. Jack snorted as she mentioned that pictures had no scent, "Guess not."
He wondered if it was worth the effort to 'educate' the youth about the cylindrical thing he puffed at once in a while. Jack took a good long drag and let out a deep long puff of smoke as he answered, "This thing is a cigarette. Never seen 'em? Live under a rock maybe?"

"The techs didn't bring that stuff around me when I lived in the apartments by myself. Then again I was never indoors often. And, my current kee- I mean mom is on the up and up. Prim and proper. It is hard to even get a bag of chips in the house." Alex grinned.
From the half way point her tail curled. "Not under a rock. In a tree. Although if you look under rocks you can find some pretty interesting stuff."
"My name's Alex. Not kid." She jumped down and crouched next to him. "I shouldn't tell my name to strangers but if I don't then I'll never get to know anyone. That and I'm not one for rules and such frivolous things."

Boy did this one seem to take things a little too literal, but she seemed like she enjoyed having a bit of fun, the urge of rebellion was something he recognized in many.
Recognized it and respected it.
"Ain't like I'm gon' cut you down or nothin', too messy," he made a face of distaste and then shifted his shoulders a bit. "You can call me Jay."
The mention of a strict mother brought forth a need to be careful now that he was educating a new pupil, "You wanna try?" He offered over the cigarette with an eyebrow raised.

After the exchanging of names Alex actually sat down. She looked more relaxed. Even if she didn't realize it she had been on the defensive side. The ready for anything.
Alex had tried a lot of things. A good number of them because she now had three siblings. Everyone liked something different. What was the point in living if you didn't try new things. "Sure," she smiled, "I'll try anything once, twice even." It was not like what he was offering was going to kill her. That much she could tell because he was still living.

He kept the cigarette offered to her with a small nod, "Go for it then. Just don't put the lighted end in your mouth, it'll burn ya."
Jack was at least nice enough to warn her. "Oh. It'll probably make you cough a whole hell of a lot since you aren't really used to it."
Such a good guy.
"Might also make you a bit dizzy," he scratched at his scruffy chin idly with a free claw.

Alex took the cigarette careful of the lit end. "Sounds about like inhaling hairspray accidentally," She rolled her eyes playfully.
She let it sit between her lips for a few seconds before taking a drag. It wasn't an extremely long one. And, remembering how he had let the smoke exhale she did just that. Probably a good thing because it kept her from coughing to much. It wasn't bad, or great. Probably something acquired so she tried it again. This time she didn't cough nearly as much. She could actually get kinda use to it. "So is this something you do occasionally to kill time?" Not wanting to come off as greedy she handed it back to him, careful of the lit end.

"Accidentally? You mean there are folk that don't do that s**t on purpose? Huh." Jack wasn't exactly a stranger to the idea of pleasure seeking. Folks did strange things to get their jollies off and some of what they did was considered, by him, as way too much energy spent.
He took back the cigarette once she was done with it with a small amused smirk, "I guess you could say that. Though it isn't really a time killer as much as it is just ... a thing I enjoy."
"What do you do to unwind, 'Lex?" Jack was clearly very informal.

"My sister over does it when it comes to using hairspray. I'd wager she uses at least half a can when she does use it." She grinned. "I've walked into that cloud of disaster a few times." "I'm only ever unwound when I sleep. I prefer to keep moving. There is always something to do. My favorite things to do are climb trees and explore." She watched as he continued to smoke. Knowing that there was an age limit she wondered how she could get a hold of some for herself.

"Eh. Girly girls. They're fun for a bit, but not really my type of thing." Jack said simply with no real other insight on what type of girls were his 'type' of thing. He didn't seem ready to indulge any further on the matter.
He let out a small approving sound at the idea of sleep, but shrugged off the idea of moving around, "You can move around extra for me," Jack replied.
Quietly he moved to extinguish the cigarette against near where he sat, smushing it almost expertly with his large claws, "So like. This had been fun and all, 'Lex, but maybe I should start mosey 'long before people start worryin' about yer innocence," he smirked a little. Kawaii_Hime_Ceres AND I DID IT AGAIN. PRAISE MEEEE.

"Innocence," Alex scoffed and rolled out her eyes. In her eyes there were only two things innocent about her and she had no plans on changing either anytime soon.
"Alright then. Perhaps I'll catch you around again sometime." Alex with the grace of a cat was back up the tree in no time. She gave Jack a final look before scurrying off.
