From the start, Sebastian was dealt with an unlucky hand in life. Sebastian's mother died in childbirth leaving Sebastian instantly motherless with an abusive father and no one to buffer the blows. However, the family Michael, Sebastian's father, worked for was very benevolent and quickly sought to help by hiring Sebastian a wet-nurse for him until an age he could be weaned.

Once Sebastian was old enough, he became the playmate of the Deservian heir, Azreth, who was very protective of his new, abused friend. The two motherless boys got along very splendidly in their youthful bliss, which is why Azreth's father decided to make Sebastian Azreth's personal servant when he turned eight. Azreth and Sebastian grew even closer as they aged, sharing all the secrets and bruises that young boys do.

One day, a day very distinctly outlined in Sebastian's mind as a day that changed everything he thought of his friend, Azreth got really mad. Sebastian was ten, and Azreth thirteen, and Sebastian came to Azreth's side to serve him with a broken arm. Azreth was mad to say the least. Before Sebastian even knew what was happening, Az had left to find Michael.

Sebastian still, to this day, doesn't know what it was that Az said or did to his father, but the abuse stopped instantly, and he really didn't care to know what had transpired between them. That single act, though, was what cemented Sebastian's loyalty to Azreth.

Years later and Azreth lost a friend to an attack by Titan's, and it was Sebastian's turn to be scared for his friend. Azreth told Sebastian about how he was going to join the military. Fearing for his friend's life, Sebastian hurried to Alec Deservian and told him of his son's plans. Naturally, Alec whisked his son away from the danger and took them all to their winter home.

After that, Azreth was slightly angry with Sebastian, for ratting him out, but the then fourteen year old boy, didn't know what else to do. So he continued serving Azreth, kept quiet about the smuggled Maneuvering Gear, and kept his head down until the day when Alec decided that they could all go back to the mansion inside Wall Sina.

Sebastian was riding the horse that Azreth had gifted him for his sixteenth birthday, and leading two of the extra horses. His father was driving a carriage, which hosted the Master Deservian. All of the sudden, there was a loud crashing sound, like the beating of a very... very... large drum. The horses started to panic and try to get away. Consumed with the task of controlling the three frightened horses, it took Sebastian a moment to notice the screaming as the convoy was picked up by large hands, but when he did, and when the terror struck his heart, Sebastian quickly got into action. He let the two other horses go, knowing that they would be more likely to survive if freed from his hand. He then spun his horse around and went to the wagon, just in time to see his father picked up and eaten by one of the giants.

With no time to waste, he pulled out one of his daggers and jumped off of his horse, setting about to cutting the horses in the harnesses free. He didn't care for his own life at the moment, and was just about finished cutting the last horse free, when he was jerked up into the sky. His favorite dagger clattered to the ground.

Azreth, had grabbed him and swung him up into the trees at the last minute, where all three of the young men, Azreth and his friend Nick, and the now orphaned Sebastian, watched the rest of their friends and family get consumed.

After all of the mess was over, Azreth, Nick and Sebastian began to make their way back to Wall Rose, they were again, attacked, this time by a single Titan. Since Sebastian had no trainining whatsoever, nor any 3DMG gear, Nick and Az set to distract and dispatch the Titan while Sebastian ran as far as he could to get away.

Seconds, minutes, then an hour passed before Sebastian finally realized that he had no clue where he was, and it was starting to get dark. He wandered for several hours before finally coming back to the road where he had left Nick and Az. He called, but there was no answer. In his heart, he knew that his Master was not dead, so he set out on foot to follow them.

No matter how close Sebastian seemed to get to his two friends, he always seemed a day or so behind, but he knew where they were going, so once he finally made it back into Wall Rose, he made his way straight to the enlistment office and signed up for training. Being in the military may not be what he had ever intended for his life, but Sebastian would follow Azreth to the ends of the earth if it meant that he would be able to serve his master.
