Lloyd’s gamble worked. Nona juked to one side to avoid the spear. It sailed past her, but she couldn’t see the Watera spell manifesting behind. She turned, sword raised to try and intercept his pile bunker. It was too small and too quick a target, though. Lloyd practically had to run into the edge of the sword, but his fist shattered the semi-visible barrier which tried to block it and collided with Nona’s stomach. She made a choking sound as her eyes bulged outward.
Then came the shock.
What little air Nona still had left in her came out as a shriek with the shock, every muscle in her body seizing up. It was hard to tell whether her raising of her sword was an attempt to fight back or muscle reflex. It didn’t matter, because her fingers lost the strength to hold it, dropping the weapon to the grass. Empty hands clutched and found Lloyd’s arm, maybe trying to transfer the shock to him, but too late.
Nona could see as the piston hissed and slid backward, in the moment before it punched.
She flew off Lloyd’s arm and straight into the waiting Watera bubble. Her Shell manifested again, trying to beat back the crushing water pressure in the moments it lasted, before it dropped her flat on her back. Nona was struggling to get a breath and to control her muscles; the best she could manage was to roll onto her belly, struggling to get her limbs underneath her.
Above them, the blast had driven both Guardian Forces apart. Bahamut growled, a rumble like thunder, as his wings beat, circling the platform on the opposite side from Leviathan. A stand-off while their summoners struggled on the ground.
