To everyone talking about how this community is full of drama, about how we all need to change or work to change this place, I hate to tell you that you're late... but, you're extremely late. This crusade has happened multiple times; in fact, I'll even cite the more recent one.
Remember this?If not, chances are you just weren't around back then, because just about everyone got involved with that movement. Within a year, everyone forgot and started the drama up yet again. Everytime I've tried to be a voice of reason, everyone's blindly agreed and never actually listened. So, I'm not gonna preach about what we can do to make it better; instead, I'm going to tell you what -you- can do to make it better.
1. Stop involving yourself in every argument or debate. Yes, I'm talking to -you-. If you see two people arguing, do you really need to throw in your two cents? Often times, it's never relevant. Unless you're going to end it, we don't need you taking up sides and stirring the s**t even more.
1.5 Don't involve/mention other people in your disputes. Period. Be a big boy.
2. Learn when to shut up. Oh no, someone called you stupid or insulted you. That doesn't mean you should make a 5 paragraph post to defend yourself and tear them apart. You know what it does? It makes you look like the bigger a*****e. To quote Kronik, no one cares.
3. Turn your cheek. Be the better man. There's a quote I'm going to use for this, and I think it describes our community rather well. "Every reprisal is itself an act of aggression, and every act of aggression triggers immediate reprisal." You can claim that you're only defending yourself, but everytime someone defends themselves around here, they usually end up just trying to make the other person look like an a**.
4. End the cycle. How? Walk away. Don't give someone the satisfaction of a response. Even if you have to put someone on ignore; a few years ago I would've disagreed with this method, but nowadays I'm all for it. If you despise someone so much and every post they make irritates you to the point of a boiling rage, put them on ignore. Tell your guild leaders that you have no desire to ever work with that person, then move on with your life. And to those that get ignored, don't decide that you're just going to attack that person and slander them left and right. Don't be an a*****e, no one appreciates that.
5. Don't be an a*****e. Really, this is the point I'm trying to drive in the hardest. If you see someone posting something you don't agree with, or doing something in a guild you don't like, why the ******** does it matter to you? Is it affecting you or your characters? Is it harming you? If not, shut the ******** up. Don't post, don't rant, don't even give it a second thought. Think before you speak.
With all that out of the way, here's to hoping everyone and stop making threads about basically everything I just said. Were my points extremely blunt? Yes, but that's only because this community only seems to understand things when they're blunt. Was this an attack at anyone? Not at all, because we're all guilty of at least one thing on this list, if not everything. Chances are, this thread will be forgotten in a month, but it's worth another shot.
Do not post here if you're going to try to defend an action you did that falls into this category. Do not post here if you're going to argue. Don't post paragraphs about how you agree with everything, In fact, you should probably not even post here unless you have something productive to say, or your name is Schevia.
Thank you for reading, and please take this into consideration.
