Hello.
I've been thinking about this question for quite awhile.

This question is not just to homosexuals, but to anyone willing
to answer

Do you think it's okay or appropriate for someone who isn't straight
to call themselves, fellow LGBT or heterosexuals 'f*****t'?
As in referring to the slang for a gay person, not firewood.

I know the term is offensive to some and to others, it's a proud label.
I was just wondering what you all thought?

In my personal opinion, I don't care if someone calls me
a f*****t or someone else-- Unless it bothers them. That's when it's
not okay. Personally, I would never call someone this. Simply
because the term holds so much hatred that no matter the context, it's
an insult.

On the other hand, it may seem okay for someone who isn't
hetero simply because that they're not. In that case, it seems like reverse
discrimination. (I.E. When an African American refers to another as the N
word whilest a Caucasian cannot because it'd be wrong.) [No, I don't
call nor want to call anyone this word either. >.< ]

I'm heterosexual and it really bothers me. It bothers me when other heterosexual people say it and it bothers me when homosexual people say it.

I'm Scottish so to me a f** is a cigarette. I'll answer in the way of reclaiming slurs in general. I have no issues with a gay person calling themselves a f*****t or any other word of that nature because it's their own choice. I would have a problem if they called every lgbt person they met a f** because not everyone approves of the use of the word.

It is generally used in America as a hateful slur, which is completely unacceptable.

If a gay person calls themselves a f*****t then that's their own business. If they feel the need to take back the word and make it their own, then so be it.

The only way I can relate to that use of the word is when I use words that are offensive to women. I will refer to myself and other women as bitches, cunts, sluts, etc just because I can.

If that makes sense.
