Lucy ran down the hallway and skidded to a stop outside of the Physics room door, out of breath. She bent over, resting her hands on her knees while she tried to compose herself. The bell had rung roughly four minutes ago, so she wasn't terribly late, but after having skipped her first day of Physics, she sure wasn't following up very well.
Well... It's now or never... Standing up straight and adjusting her skirt, the mage took a deep breath in and opened the door. She was already blushing as she entered the room, and as everyone stared at her she cast her eyes down. She shut the door behind her as the teacher turned to glare at her. "Lucy Oribel, I presume? The blonde's brown and terrified eyes darted to meet her teacher's, nodding her head silently. "Take a seat and pull out your book. We are on page 18." With no further instructions, Lucy shuffled to the back of the room and dropped her backpack on the ground quietly, not wanting to draw any more attention to herself.
Great... Just great... Lucy began to pull her supplies from her bag, realizing she didn't even have a pencil. She gritted her teeth in frustration and gently prodded the girl's back in front of her. "I'm sorry... But do you have an extra pencil I could borrow?" She whispered, as the girl turned to glare at her but retrieved a pencil from her bag and handed it backwards. Lucy accepted it gratefully and settled back in her seat, attempting to focus on the day's lesson.
Numbers and letters became a blurry mess on the board as her teacher began speaking in a completely different language. Lucy was at a loss for words. What the hell... I... Could I have really missed this much? What in the world does that even mean!? The mage's face twisted into confusion as she dropped the borrowed pencil down on her desk. She gave up. None of it made sense. The letters in her textbook swam before her eyes and the equations were as meaningful to her as the gum under an old shoe.
Lucy suffered through the next few hours in silence, letting out a grateful sigh when the teacher dismissed them. She closed her textbook, staring at its cover for a brief moment before putting it away in her backpack. Before leaving, she returned the borrowed pencil to the girl in front of her who accepted it back with a smile, much nicer now than she had at the beginning of class. Hmm, maybe I can ask her for help later... s**t, I don't even know anyone's name! Lucy groaned as she left class and began walking back to her dorm.
