Punkology
You know, in all my years on Gaia, I never thought I'd be writing this. Never thought I'd be 'qualified' for it, really. But honestly, this might be the biggest honor in my entire Gaia 'career'. I mean, it's not everyday you get to talk up one of your best friends, right?

Tiger Hat. Tiger Girl. LEGACY. Or even THE Saint Joey. However you know him, you know he's one of the best writers to ever grace our little community. He's had matches with the best of them, he's written promos that have blown everyone away, and he still trumps everyone he works with, even when he's just ******** around. But I don't need to tell you that, his work speaks for itself. Hell, he wrote a 300 word free-form poem to initiate a lock-up in BBW a couple of days ago. When was the last time you wrote a 300 word post in poem form? I know I've never done it.

That's just the very tip of the iceberg though, isn't it? Since Joey's career started back around 2007, he's caught the eye of everyone in the community. His character was intriguing and new, but not over-the-top. As time went on, he began to work with some of the best in this community, and went on to achieve greatness in a number of guilds. He always kept s**t interesting, there's no doubt about that. The WWF:G Wrestlemania Dance-Off? All him. ASaR? Short-lived, but by far THE BEST guild idea in yeaaaaaaaars. Tiger Hat? No one's ever had so much saying a character's catchphrase until he's come about, and I'm including the infamous "No one cares." Hell, even after Saint Joey's Death, LEGACY came to fruition with one of the best mottos I've ever heard. "The Future is bright, The Future... is me." And of course, Joey earned himself the biggest spotlight when he came out with the most controversial retirement in Gaia history. He's not the first to kill his character, but goddamn... no one's really ever done it like him. To this day, I can still crack a tear reading that thing.

But believe it or not, none of that is the reason why I think Joey deserves this. Everyone else might think so, sure. Title reigns and awesome roleplaying, mixed in with historic moments often make for a great candidate. The real reason I think Joey deserves this honor is that, he's the prime example of why we should all be here. For fun. Everytime Joey posts, it's to have fun. Each post, each match, and each promo, his only goal is to have fun. He's not here for the drama, he never tries to stir the pot; ********, I wish we'd all be like him on that one. I could go on and on about Joey, really. I could talk about his time as the first ever "legendary" champion, the impacts of his retirement, the beef him and I had with Jed way back when Jed was the shot-caller around here. I could talk about our time together as The Angered Alliance (the best tag team I've ever been a part of), the fun we had with Ocean Safari, or... well honestly, every part of Joey's career is a highlight. From our humble beginnings to Extreme Entertainment Wrestling, to his most recent post in Bad Blood Wrestling, there's not been a moment where he hasn't shined. But I suppose I'll stop rambling, because what everyone's been waiting for is this.

Ladies and gents, let's give it up for... The Sexiest thing since Sex! The ULTIMATE Macho Man! The Grim Reaper's Pen Pal! SAAAAAAAAAAAAAINT FUUUUUUUUUUCKIN' JOOOOOOOOEY!

Extremist-Saint-Joey
So, I was minding my own business one day when I get a message telling me I'm going to be in the Gaia pro wrestling Hall of Fame. Neat! I'm still not really sure what I've done to deserve it, honestly. It's pretty shocking. But it's nice to be here. Come, break kayfabe with me as I ramble for a while, won't you? I'm a Hall of Famer now, so I think that means you've gotta listen.

Suppose I should talk about myself a little; hi, I'm Joey. British. I started all this nonsense in 2007. when Saint Joey launched clumsily onto the scene in Ye Olde GWF. I was pretty terrible. Most people are when they start, I suppose. But I lurked, I learned, I harassed Cartwright, and I got a little better. Not much... just enough to keep up with y'all and slam you with GRATUITOUS BOLD and CAPS.

I won my first title, the GCW Extreme Championship, later that year. From there it was a series of ups and downs, silly arguments and dramas amidst the laughs, and deep down enjoyed the lot of it. I wondered into so many guilds that I'd be hard pressed to name them all. Early career-wise, the most memorable were probably WWF:G, DCW and EEW, where I had a plethora of nice feuds, a few shiny belts and one-off matches. A couple of my favourites, though in no way exhaustive, include teaming with Cardok and Tavarius to reform the Renegades (which Jynx, founding Renegade, HATED, but hey), and a feud with Jed over the newly-renamed Saints Title, as well as our second feud in DCW, which - while never finished (story of my life) - was one of my favourite premises... darn painkillers, man. Of course, I'd be hard-pressed not to mention the Angered Alliance forming in all this mess, with my brother Matt Shanahan - an undeniable legend. I did all sorts of silly things; I was in the Tap Out Mafia, and had several titles. I was a Jack Daniels-swigging drunk, and a hardcore wrestler with my barbed-wire bat, and an anti-hardcore wrestler. A loveable idiot and an affable villain.

I also ran a guild or two with... varying success, depending on who you ask. NGWE and the gloriously named ASaR Presents: ELLIE - (C)AWF will probably be remembered for a few reasons, but oooohhhh hazy memories in my old age/death. wink

Of course, Saint Joey's most success came in his 2011 return (the last of many), almost exclusively in EWA, where I stumbled into a generation of people who probably had no clue who this silly old midcarder was. Due to circumstances, it's all lost to time, but it's there that I had a joint-winner of the match-of-the-year with Freakshow, in a legendary display of 'what.' In that same match, I won the EWA Sprocket Title - the crown jewel of my career, and the only thing even close to a world title. It's also here, that very same year, that Joey died, in a lonely hotel room.

Joey started in 2007, retired in 2008, Came back in 2009, retired again, came back AGAIN in 2010, retired AGAIN, came back AGAIN in 2011, and died the same year. So there you go. There's your timeline. Retired more times then Terry Funk, eh? Almost once a year! He somehow faded away and burned out simultaneously, and I'm still not sure how. Still, the ride was pretty crazy, really.

Not sure what else to say, honestly. The story of Saint Joey was made of more than just me, it was the sum of - what I would say - was the greatest generation. Saint Joey wasn't just Saint Joey. Saint Joey was forged by Marxx, and Matt Shanahan. He was made by Christina Parks, and the Midnight Marauders. He was the thirty-plus guilds, some that spanned from years before I even knew of this concept to the feds that ran for one card before fading into obscurity. All the guys who started in that same period, from the budding legends and the old guard that stayed to help - the Jeds, Cartwrights and the Kings - all forged the character, and the man behind him. I say, humbly and with humility, that they are inspiring; Saint Joey would be absolutely nothing without them, and they all have my sincerest thanks for making this not only enjoyable, but memorable, and probably the most important aspect of my lil' life so far.

I was 14 back then, when I found Gaia almost entirely by accident. Now I'm a grown man. Huh.

It's weird, looking back. It didn't feel like that long. It didn't feel like that much. I guess it was, huh?

So, truly. Thank you. Joey may be dead and long gone, but it's nice to know that, even if it's only a couple of you, someone, somwhere still has fond memories of the life and times of the ONE, the ONLY, the ULTIMATE MACHO MAN, the GRIM REAPERS PEN ******** Greatest Years

Thank you. Thank you all.
Play me out, Green Day~!!
