There are many trials and steps necessary to become a full fledged animagi. What gave you the idea to try to become one? It's a long and arduous process. Describe the steps you take. Not to mention, becoming an animagi is a gamble. You're never sure what animal you will take the form of until you complete the process. What animal do you think you'll be and why?”Padfoot” Response: Saxon’s hand flew up. “Wait… so you mean that if you become an animagi… you can talk to other animals?” The professor gave her a look for speaking out of turn, again. “Not exactly… it’s not like you are going to sit down and talk about the weather… Its communication on a very basic level… you get the jist of things…want for food… feelings of fear… pain… etcetera… ” The professor waved their hand and Saxon frowned. Well, it wasn’t exactly what she had thought of it as. She had been contemplating not coming to class today but she was glad she did. This transfiguration class was more interesting than she had thought it would be. Her hand kept going up for the smallest of questions.
She had wanted to be a veterinarian when she was a small child and when she got to her first magical creatures class she amended that to want to be a Magizoologist, one who could help them, a magical vet of sorts. And so, being able to know how an animal felt could be an amazing help. She settled in to wait for the end of class and then she was setting out to plague the professor with more questions; ranging from how to do it and where to register.
She had spent about an hour with the professor before she got them to offer their time in helping her to train for it. She hugged the professor and promised to be early to her first lesson. Third year was busy for her and yet every moment of free time she had went to practicing and learning. She had read that the form one would take was random, though it was similar to that of one’s patronus. They theorized that the change came from the same traits that formed the patronus. So she had worked on getting her patronus strengthened, since all she'd managed so far was a mist. So she figured that perfecting that would be a good first step since it would give her an idea of what she could become. Her happy thought stemmed from her dog at home, she had found the puppy abandoned on the street and she had taken it home to nurse back to health. Now the 75 pound dog was her very best of friends. She had, as it turned out, rescued a bulldog and so when the patronus came out as a, growling, snarling bulldog ready to protect her, she wasn’t all that surprised. So she contemplated that. More than likely she would turn into a Bulldog. Sitting on the ground out by black lake she contemplated that detail. She loved her dog… but her dog wasn’t the prettiest out there. She sat there for a long while after learning what her patronus was to contemplate the effort it would take to become an animagus and have it be something like a bulldog. She was already running herself ragged learning how to do it properly. She had let potions slip a bit, her grade falling to only fair... She had always kept her potions high for hope that she would learn some sort of medicinal potions. However, her professor who had always looked at her as an average student in transfiguration was seeing a whole new side of her.
Now that something interested her she was putting her whole heart and soul into it. She was instructed to find herself. That was the key to the transformation. The animal inside her wouldn’t be able to find its hold, if she wasn’t able to accept that she had an animal inside her. She had decided that being able to understand what an animal needed or was feeling was more important then what she came out looking like. So she spent every other day working with her professor and the other days she worked alone digging deeper into herself to try and train herself.
The more she worked the more determined she became. After almost the whole year of lessons and privately working, her grades rested just above passing. Even her care of Magical creatures class grade had slipped. The professor had called her up to speak to them. They were working simple care of Jarveys and she had mixed up what food to give them. For the most part those questions were no brainers. But for Saxon now she was so focused on the goal at hand that she couldn't think about Jarveys she needed to do this she needed to be able to complete this task so that she would be able to heal the animals all that much better. So she made a note to focus a little more on her grades but she just lost sleep because of it. She still worked the same amount of time on her practicing. And then, after she was done, she would work like a zombie into the night on her homework.
She had been working all through the summer and now that she was back for her fourth year. Her parents had fussed over her mediocre grades but they were supportive of her working to be an animagus. The second day back she searched out the transfiguration professor and she showed him what she had been working on. The professor was proud of her, since she could now cast very simple spells wordlessly, or soundlessly but their yearlong project didn’t seem to be going anywhere near as fast as he would have liked. After all,the magic required to be an animagus was advanced and needed to be soundless and wandless. Saxon could see him giving up on her and so she decided to push even harder.
Running at a hundred and ten percent, working on this Animagus ability it came as a flash and became almost a nightmare when it actually happened. She was in an abandoned classroom, working through her charms class. She was sitting cross-legged on one of the tables meditating. She had found out through the year of day to day working that she felt closest to the animal side of herself when it was quiet and she was thinking of nothing. Her mind was focused on her bulldog. She had a bulldog patronous and as such she was banking on that she would come out looking like a bulldog that had her traits. She thought about a brown bulldog with green eyes. She had a birth mark on the bottom of her foot. It was in the shape of a crescent moon. She imagined that would be a defining mark on her. She thought about that mark a moment. How it curved and the freckle right next to it that looked like a star. Her body changed then. So relaxed and focused on a small detail of what made her, her, her mind took over her body and what came out was a howling bear. The first transformation felt like her bones were torn apart and put back together. She laid there as a bear a moment studying her new body. She waved a paw. Well this was surely different. And now she knew why it had taken her so long. She was so fixated on that she would turn to a bulldog, that her body had been fighting itself. She sat there as a bear for about an hour. She was waiting for herself to change back.
Nothing was happening and so she focused on changing back. She reached for the magic and focused on the ability to change back. She could picture her human self just fine and her body shifted again. It didn’t hurt as badly the second time. So the more she did it, she had a feeling it would no longer hurt. A bear… She thought about why she turned into a bear. Apparently a bulldog and a bear had similar traits. No, it was more because she could be a bear. Her determination and loyalty and love for her family. She guessed that the bulldog was her patronous since she trusted her dog to protect her more then she trusted herself to be able to.

Padfoot There are many trials and steps necessary to become a full fledged animagi. What gave you the idea to try to become one? It's a long and arduous process. Describe the steps you take. Not to mention, becoming an animagi is a gamble. You're never sure what animal you will take the form of until you complete the process. What animal do you think you'll be and why? Response: Ever since he started school at Hogwarts, Jericho had been studying about Animagi. Even though he was the oldest child in his family, he was still only a child. With his father emotionally impaired since his mother's death, Jericho had been the man of the house, but that didn't mean his two younger siblings always do what they were told. What was worse, since Jeri was more of a doer than a communicator, he couldn't always figure out how to get them to even listen to him.
Once he started school, he resolved to learn more magic in order to earn more respect from his brother and sister as well as keep them in line and protect them. Becoming an Animagus, however, had always been one of his long-term goals because not only would it have proved him a capable wizard to anyone who knew what it meant, but his siblings had always loved animals. Perhaps caring for them as an animal would be easier than as a human since he found it difficult to comminicate with them, but what animals really needed to communicate with humans in order to get what they wanted done?
On top of that, it would certainly have been easier to get their attention as a creature than as their brother. If he became something big, he could use his strength, size, and power to protect them, but if he could learn to turn into something small, he would be able to keep watch on them when they were up to no good. No matter what, if he could manage to perform the complex spell right, Jericho was certain it would only benefit him in his role as the 'man of the house'.
During his time at Hogwarts, his aunt Jackie had been taking care of his family, but now that it was Winter Break, Jeri had come home to give her a long-deserved vacation and watch them in her place. Unlike his fellow Third Years, he had no time or oppertunity to go to Hogsmeade, but he didn't mind too much. He was happy to be with his family and he still had studies to work on over break. Unfortunately, his siblings didn't feel he was spending enough time with them.
"Come on, Jeri! You've been reading for hours!" little Jade complained, tugging on the back of her older brother's robe. Her other brother, Tatum, couldn't speak, but he used frantic sign language as well as restless body language in an attempt to get Jericho's attention. The Hufflepuff's concentration didn't seem to break until two bare feet jumped up on the table, causing many of his school supplies to fly or roll off the table. Pale eyes widened at the culprit as Tatum waved sheepishly.
"Auntie Jackie always had time to play with us," Jade told him, helping Jeri pick up his belongings. He didn't seem angry, but he had cast Tatum a warning look. "And Winter Break won't last that long. Soon you'll be back at school again and we won't get time to play until summer! Do you know how long that is?"
Jericho sighed and looked at a list as he snatched it up from the floor. It was the checklist of steps he'd created near the beginning of his first year in order to become an Animagus. Only a few things were checked off, but he had accomplished a few more in the years since. Placing the paper back on the table, he took a pencil and checked those off, too.
"Alright, Jade," he said gently. "Ten minutes. Then bed." When he turned back to the pair of younger children, Tatum was jumping with joy, but Jade seemed disappointed.
"Just ten?" she complained.
"More tomorrow," he assured her, checking one more thing off the list. "Let's go." Putting down his papers and pencils, he carefully placed his wand in his pocket before leading the two outside and into the snow. "Stay close," he warned them. "No magic." There was a blizzard coming that night and he wanted everyone inside and sleeping before the hard winds and loud howling against the windows made it too difficult to do so.
As they had snowball fights and made snow forts, Jericho considered what portion of his time for his schooling and his family he'd sacrificed in order to learn more about becoming an Animagi. Technically it was kind of tied in with school work, but he was pretty sure no teacher at Hogwarts really expected their students to attempt such a spell while still attending school.
He knew he'd first wanted to become one after his parents had told their children about them and he had an even greater reason for why he wanted to after his mother died and his father fell into despair. Jericho had read books about the subject for hours and hours before and during his first year in Hogwarts, so by the time they came to the lesson in Transfiguration, he had already gotten down the main principles and elements of the spell, its effects, and its consequences.
He could even name several infamous (and famous) wizards and witches who were notable Animagi and what they had done to become noteworthy. Of course, though, that wasn't enough. Knowing about a spell in theory was much, much different from actually practicing, performing, and succeeding in it.
On his checklist he'd marked down learning about the spell itself and the history of its previous users during his First Year. Later he'd learned that one could only turn into one kind of Animagus and that it often but not always reflected the same animal that one's Patronus spell took on the form of. He knew that while both spells took the forms of animals depending on the wizard or witch's personality at the time, the Patronus spell could be cast multiple times while the Animagus spell was only cast once, allowing the user to transform without a wand or incantation at will indefinitely afterward. That was probably why it was so strong and hard to learn in the first place.
Due to the fact that the Animagus spell only needed to be cast once in a magician's lifetime, however, Jeri knew that it could only take the shape of one animal depending on the personality of the caster at the time, even if the personality changed later. The Patronus, on the other hand, would change to reflect one's personality each time it was cast.
Jeri often wondered what his animal would become. He hadn't even managed to create a proper Patronus yet with a full form; just a white, wispy mass. It seemed a little larger than when he'd first learned the spell, which was an improvement, but it still wasn't enough to make out what it was.
When the ten minutes were up, Jericho led his brother and sister inside to put them to bed. Immediately, he hurried back to his studies, pushing aside his favorite Astronomy lessons to see just how far he'd come in attempting to be an Animagus. Skimming a book with test questions, he answered them in his mind. No, an Animagus could not change form from emotional trauma as a Patronus could. Yes, they could take on the same animal form for the same individual. No, an Animagus could not become an animal of the opposite gender, but their Patronus could.
You needed to perform a spell, not take a potion, in order to complete the Animagus process. No, an Animagus was not affected by the lifespan of the animal. The difference between a transfiguration into an animal and an Animagus spell was that in the latter case the wizard retained his former intellect in order to transform back, whereas in the former case, they did not. No, one could not choose what animal they turned into as an Animagus. And yes, it was possible to change an Animagi back into a wizard or witch from their human form with the correct spell. What that spell was, though, he couldn't remember. He'd have to research a bit more...
Jericho read long into the night. He was just about to find out if a metamorphmagus who became an Animagus could change the way they looked when transformed when he heard a scream from outside. His eye narrowed. It sounded suspiciously like Jade; but she was in bed with Tatum, wasn't she?
Running out, Jericho realized suddenly that the blizzard was upon them, because he could hardly see. His already colorblind sight was obscured by the blinding white snow all about him and he lifted an arm to shield his face, clutching his robes tighter about his shoulders. "Jade?!" he yelled into the storm. Those little troublemakers...he wouldn't have put it past them to have snuck out while he was studying. Of course they wouldn't have bothered with warnings about a blizzard, and Jericho hadn't thought to tell them. Another example of communication failure on his part.
Angry at himself, the eldest of the Gibbon children trudged through the snow, pulling out his wand from his robe pocket. "Lumos!" he cried, but it did little good. To him it was just another speck of white in the whirlwind of snow. "JADE? TATUM!"
He heard a faint cry nearby, but it was muffled. A pang of fear struck the boy and he began to dig. He dug until he couldn't feel his arms anymore and his face felt like stone. If he let his siblings die, he wouldn't ever be able to face his father; not after he was so devastated by their mother's death. Just as he thought he was going to get frostbite, Jeri whipped out his wand and attempted the spell. He needed to try it, and when if not now? With a shout, he hollered it into the blizzard, the wind almost drowning out his voice.
In a few minutes, Jeri was caring his siblings back in huge, white ape arms, cradling Jade like a baby and supporting Tatum on his back so the freezing mute boy didn't fall off. he'd draped them in his cloak as best he could, but they were still frozen and even Jade could hardly speak. The transformation hadn't worked quite like Jericho had hoped, but it had been better than nothing. It hadn't been complete and he just had the arms of a white gorilla, but at least he knew something now that his studies wouldn't have been able to teach him. He wasn't going to give up his family if that's what it took to learn how to be an Animagi or any great wizard.
Jade and Tatum disagreed. When they apologized for what happened and accepted their punishment, Tatum insisted that Jericho learn how to finish transforming. Jade agreed. "We won't mind if you miss playing with us as long as you finish that spell," she pardoned him. "On the condition that you let us play with you once you learn it! We'll have so much FUN!"
Perhaps protection and safety wouldn't be the only way he could help his siblings through his becoming a giant gorilla.

There are many trials and steps necessary to become a full fledged animagi. What gave you the idea to try to become one? It's a long and arduous process. Describe the steps you take. Not to mention, becoming an animagi is a gamble. You're never sure what animal you will take the form of until you complete the process. What animal do you think you'll be and why?PadfootResponse: Clover heard about Animagi, people who could transform into an animal in one of her classes. Clover became over in throalled. The chance to become an animal? Even if it was one, to learn what it was like to be an animal would be a dream come true. So without any delay she went to the library to do a little reserch.
"So learing to be an Animagi can take up to three years to learn?" She asked to no one as she looked though books and scroll infermation "Really that's all?"
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She closed her eyes and remembered when she was a little girl and on her grandparntes farm in her grandfather's office after having tracked down a sheep that had run off. She was mad at him. "Grand-da why did you let him brake the lamb's leg and why won't you fix it?" she asked as the glass on the window cracked behind the old man.
"I know you don't understand, but it needed to be done. Yes, I could put up a charm to keep things out and the sheep in. But what if, your grand-ma or one of the farm hands came across the charm? They are all Muggles after all." The old man passwed a second to let what he said sink in before he started to speak again, "I know you think it's unfair to the lamb to have it's leg broken, espaily since the right spell could fix it. But what if a wolf or something worse got it before we found it? We wouldn't have the lamb anymore. And when something dies no amount of magic can bring it back."
The young Clover looked bewildered up at the old man, "It can't? I thought magic could do anything..."
He chuckled a little as picked her up and placed her on his lap. "No, Luck-Charm it can't. That's why we need to grow food. Everything has it's own life time. Wether it's Magic or Muggle. The lamb's leg will heal, and in the amount of time it takes to heal, it will become attached to those who need to take care of it."
Little Clover cheared up a little bit "Really? How?" she asked
He simply nodded, "Yes Sweet-Pea. How do you think the lamb will get around? We need to carry it, and in doing so the lamb won't run off ever again. It won't die today but will in when the time is right. Time is something that we can't fight, but if we use it right grate things can come from it, that is if we are willing to wait. Even so we need to take care of all our plants and animals when they are alive, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't eat them eather. It's part of life for an animal to eat another, and acording to some Muggle book your grand-ma had me read even we are animals."
The little Clover seemed to understand and hugged her grandfather as he said "Now then let's fix that window."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Clover wiped a tear from her eye from the happy memory and looked around the library as if wondering if someone was watching though she really didn't care as she loved her mother's parents. "Time is something that we can't fight, but if we use it right grate things can come from it, that is if we are willing to wait," she repeated his words to herself. "It made me feel better back then, and now it's words of encergement. Thanks Grand-da," she said to herself, "Still I'm not finding out how with what I've seen though."
She put the book she been looking at aside and pulled another to her. "Up to three years.... Most Animagi animal forms.... same as Patrones..... un able to change.... this is the same things over again." she muttered as she went over the information about but not how. She then came acrost a small sample list of Animagi That were regestered, some time from the 1800s. "Wow, there is no real telling is there? I wonder what mine would be. I remember Grand-mum saying something about patrones, what was it... when the patroness takes a form it tends to be a reflection of that person... oh yuck, I just recalled something from that woman.... How Dad ever came from her I'll never know." she said shaking her head.
She glanced over at her art bag and took out her green Hollyhead Harpy's gem box and opened it and let the modle animals free on the table. She did this to distract herself from the thought of her father's mother, however this time it wasn't working as much as she would have liked. Watching the modles went around the table. Resting her chin on her hand she finally go her grand-mum off her mind.
Staring down at the modle animals she pondered the posibilitys that her animal form could be. "I can see myself as a wolf, they'er loyal and strong like I am. But so are their desendices the dog. Pigs are smart... I'm not as smart at all. I don't think I'd make a good cat. Wild or domestic, they are quite pridefull. Rats are deseful, and untrustworty.... I still don't understand why the Bager is on the Hufflepuff crest... Bagers are something that even lions know not to mess with. Maybe a diffrent Hufflepuff was.... Loyalty and compation is the mark of a Hufflepuff student... but I'm also strong, and protective," she chuckled slightly, "Now that I think about it so are elphant cows, and most mo. Something small could be good for studding animals, It's a little disapointing that I would only get see what it's like as one animal"
She heard the librarian say that it was time to close for the night. Slightly disapointed that she hadn't found something that told her how to become an Animagi just what they were. She scooped her modle animals back into the Hollyhead Harpys box and put it back in her art bag. She desided that she would keep looking for the information on how to become an animagi. This was the start of her search. She figured it was most likly to be a better idea to ask a teacher or someone who was an animagi what it was like for them.
The next morning Clover went down to breakfast in the Grate Hall and looked over at the staff table pondering what questions were best to ask what teachers. She didn't know any Animagi yet, at least she didn't know if she had meet one. So she knew she was going to need to go to the teachers. Over the next couple of days Clover learned that Animagi, unlike werewolfs and people traransfigured into animals, Animagi kepted their being mind when in animal form, but like the others, can only speak with other beings when human. Animagi are the only ones that can change from animal form at will, someone fully transfigured would need someone else to change them back.
The more she learned, the more she wanted to know about, and be an Animagi. She just needed to figure out how to become one. The problem was no one she knew could tell her what it was like learing to be an Animagi. She went back to the library when she had the time to to see if she over looked anything that could teach her the how.
