Welcome to Heroes, the Wardwood Exquisite Corpse project!
What is an Exquisite Corpse?
- An Exquisite Corpse (or EC hereafter) is a collective assemblage of writing or art, with each contributor building off only a portion of the previous contributor's work, so that no one has an idea of the whole until the process is completed.
What is the Heroes EC?
- A user-run (non-staff) project of collaborative solo RPs! Each contributor will receive a sentence, and use that sentence to inspire the beginning of their entry. They will send the entry to the compiler (Rejam), who will send the last sentence to the next contributor until all are ready. Then, the compiler will put them all into one long story composed of vignettes and short scenes of Wardwood characters. You can see a two-person EC here, written by Rejam and Phoenix Kiss, to get an idea of how each final sentence leads into the first sentence of the next section.
How do I sign up?
- Read through the requirements below. If they sound dandy, just post the form! You'll get a PM when it's your turn to contribute. When you're done, send your solo directly to Rejam and she'll compile them at the end.
As of this time there is no definite end dead for sign-ups. We may well keep accepting them after writing has begun, until the writing overtakes the sign-ups.
Requirements
- Do not use any formatting in your post except for italics as they would normally be used in formal writing. No colored dialog or creative speech markers. Pretend as though you are writing a formal short story. No poetry or verse (unless it's embedded in a larger frame story)--prose only, please!
Please write in past tense third person.
The theme of your entry is heroes. In addition to using the sentence you are given as a springboard to begin your scene, you will need to incorporate that theme in some way. How you choose to do so is up to you--just so long as it's reflected in some way by the content of your post!
You may use up to three of your own characters (Chosen, Hedgewitches, or civilians) in your post.
You can contribute up to three separate solos for the project. Just specify how many you're willing to do. Each solo should ideally use different characters, but reusing the same ones is OK as well. All characters used should be approved and all content should accurately reflect Wardwood's setting and the current state of the meta (unless the solo is set in the past; in which case, the meta can be disregarded).
Your should not combine two entries into one. Each entry should be stand-alone.
You will need to submit your finished entry within 48 hours of receiving your prompt, or you will be skipped over. The deadline can be extended by an extra day or two, but you'll need to let Rejam know ASAP.
If you are unable to provide your solo when the time comes, just let Rejam know and you'll be skipped!
Try to end on a sentence that will be easy for someone else's scene to be based on. Ideally it will be a sentence without names in it, although names may be OK if there's a clear idea or theme to it. The perfect Exquisite Corpse ending sentence is one that has a definite idea in it, without much in the way of specifics.
Entries should be no shorter than 100 words and no longer than 750. Where they fall on this scale is up to you.
