I usually don't like to get involved in debates about what choice is the "right" one, since I tend to lean towards the idea that neither is technically "right." However, I had an idea that would not leave me alone, so I thought I'd put it up here.

In my most recent playthrough, I didn't sacrifice my Avatar (Cyrus). My reason was to see different dialogue in the ending, but, after thinking about it for a while, I realized that it made sense for Cyrus, too.
Naga said that the only thing that could kill Grima was his own power. Not Grima... his power. That distinction would form the basis of Cyrus's decision. He would reason that he would need to access all of Grima's power in order to kill him (as the future!Grima was undoubtably more powerful than the Avatar we play). However, he didn't know if the act of accessing and using Grima's true power would turn him into Grima. Cyrus just doesn't know for certain, especially since he's already so close to Grima (being the Fell Dragon's vessel). If he does turn into Grima in the process of trying to kill him for good, he doesn't know if Chrom would be able to stop both Grima!Cyrus and Future!Cyrus.

Of course, we know that that won't happen, but, until the Avatar decides to sacrifice him or herself, none of the characters know what'll happen.
Not even Naga. By her own admission, she isn't a god. Therefore, she might be wrong when she says that Grima will die if the final blow is struck by the Avatar. That uncertainty weighed against the tried-and-true method of subduing Grima would push Cyrus to refrain from sacrificing himself, even though he would dearly want to.

However, this is just my head-canon version of this particular Avatar of mine. I imagine him as being very cautious, whereas some of my other Avatars are pretty reckless. So, is this reasoning sound? It is for Cyrus, so he lived in that playthrough.

Ah yes, I actually did the research a bit after that post, but thank you for the clarification, madam. His signature just appears to be the Lloyd sprite from Awakening after you get him from Bonus Box, haha. But darn, I was hoping for a hack to play. xd

Perhaps he has gotten Lloyd from the Spotpass. However, I'm pretty sure the rest (and maybe Lloyd) are his MUs that he saved in his Avatar Log after playing so many times on his files in order to create a team. So no hack in there.
I was thinking he did something like that. Is there a limit to how many MU's you can bring to 1 file via SpotPass?

Also, I was talking about on of those FE hacks that you download as a ROM with fan-made storylines and stuff. Like the epic story of GHEB!

I believe that as long as you beat the game in your file, it should be saved in the Avatar Log. So I'm guessing there is no limit as to how many MU's you can bring to one file as long as you saved them in the Avatar Log. Of course, there is a limit if you're planning to make a Spotpass team. >>;

And yes, I'm aware there are FE hacks as well as some fan-made hack games.

Well, there's a limit but it's super generous. You can only hold 99 characters in the Avatar Log and only… I forget, but it's either only 10 or 20 units from the Avatar Log, and that's the limit to characters from the Avatar Log you can have on your army roster for any given file.

That 99 limit sounds super awesome until you consider the fact that Spotpass units from all 12 previous entries count, for which there are 13 teams with 10 characters on each. And DLC characters count. AND other Avatars count, of course.
