"My ankle. I'm fine," he assured Cesa immediately, wincing. "Never mind. We can continue our journey! Once I get up." T'rel struggled to stand--and did manage it, only to wince as soon as he put weight down on his foot. "I'm fine," he said again. "Just a sprain or something. It'll probably bruise." Nothing worth seeing a healer over. "Maybe I'll stay seated," he muttered, resuming his place on the cave's floor.

He took Cesa's hand and rewarded her with a small, pained smile. "Thank you," he said. For caring so much, even with how angry she'd been. For stopping to help him, mid-argument. "I doubt we'll find anything like this," he said. "I hope there aren't any tunnelsnakes in here," he said. "But it looks like this place has been empty for turns. No one's ventured in lately, at least."

He paused, and studied their surroundings. "Wish I'd thought to bring a glow," he muttered. "Not much we can do in the dark. Tell each other stories, I suppose. You've heard all mine. Play 'guess that dragon'? No, because it's always Zellie. Singing? No. Gah. Cesa, you pick."

Rising up on her knees Cesa held out her hands as if to somehow stop T'rel, but without actually touching him. She let out a soft hiss between her teeth as he winced, T'rel must be really hurting. He shouldn't be getting up and trying to walk off. "T'rel, please sit down. If you're hurt, you can't go running off and doing yourself harm. We should get you back to the Weyr so a healer can check you over." She didn't think that R'yn would be happy to find out that she had spirited T'rel away and then gone and busted his ankle. She didn't fancy being responsible for injuring the Weyrleader's friend and the Weyrlingmaster.

She had been about to pick up her case again, he'd sat down, now they just needed to get him back, but T'rel cut her off rather effectively. Managing a sad smile, the greenrider looked down at her hand in T'rel's. She gave it a squeeze, even as her brain told her that she should take her hand back before another stupid thing happened. She looked off into the dark, she doubted there was likely to be many tunnelsnakes in here. A small island like this, they'd probably choose to stay away from people.

"Not like we expected to go wandering about in a cave." Then again when they went off it might be worth bringing an entire survival kit with them. "What would we do if we did have a glow?" It's not like they would then be occupied, they'd just be able to see each other better. Personally Cesa was finding it easier without being able to see. A gust of cold air washed over her as a pair of glowing eyes appeared in the dark, chittering happily. "You took your time, Damina slow you don't again?" Letting out a high whistle the firelizard fluttered closer to Cesa in the dark, bobbing awkwardly in the air as she clutched something in her claws. The greenrider took the object from the small creature, thanking her for her efforts.

Looking down at the object for a while, Cesa let out a small hum before holding it out to T'rel. "Here, have a Fell-over-and-hurt-yourself present. 'Cept Teller seems to have taken a fee for transport." The green in question decided she would land on T'rel's head, churring a greeting and looking down at the bubblypie in Cesa's hand. Tiny jeweled eyes lingering for a moment on the two bites out of it, suspiciously about the size of a green firelizard's mouth. The song-man would not be angry with her, would he? They could share, yes? The green lay on her stomach amongst T'rel's curls and crooned her most charming croon. He did not mind little Teller, did he?

"We'd have light to see what's lurking in the dark," T'rel muttered. "So things couldn't sneak up on--" he jumped at Teller's sudden appearance. "...Like that." He took the pie from Cesa and studied it, before holding it up for Teller. "Ah, no," he said aloud with a shake of his head. "I'm quite full, thank you, Teller. You can have it." He reached up his free hand to stroke the firelizard on his head, grinning. "Did yours call you, hm? You're a talented girl, aren't you?"

He lowered his hand, looking to Cesa. "Tell me about Benden," he invited her. "I don't think you've ever told me of your life there. And since we have nothing else to do--" he gestured around the cave with a florish of his arm, "You might as well tell me the whole story. You know mine already." He couldn't imagine leaving friends for five turns; but Cesa's dragon's life had depended on it. Benden was much better equipped for such things.

"I'll tell you something after."

Though Cesa rolling her eyes was lost in the dark, the slight sound of her clicking her tongue was uninterrupted. "There is nothing lurking in the dark." If there was they would have heard it by now. Besides she had wandered in enough caves without encountering anything, Cesa was confident nothing was going to attempt to lurk on them. "She wasn't exactly sneaking." Teller wasn't really known for her stealth. The green normally constantly chattering to herself or anyone who would listen to her. That wasn't a good quality for sneaking.

The green chirruped with delight when the pie was given back into her possession, eagerly taking a large mouthful out of it. At T'rel's praise and strokes the green happily nuzzled his hand. The firelizard was as affectionate as ever. Her bonded however was more suspicious. Leaning forward, Cesa placed the back of her hand against T'rel's forehead. "Hmm, you don't feel warm..." she mused quietly to herself. Still, T'rel refusing a pie? Cesa had seen T'rel put away far more than he had today without getting full in the past. The man always had room for a pie.

Leaning back against she considered T'rel's idea. "There's not much to tell really," she began slowly. She imagined the content of Weyrlinghood was much the same regardless of what Weyr taught it. True there were three other turns to cover, but Cesa couldn't say anything that interesting had happened. "Benden's different from Ista. Things are stricter there and everyone is serious a lot of the time. They didn't like me baking, saying I should be focusing on Yodith and my training instead." Home-sickness wasn't the only reason that Cesa had decided to return to Ista. It was easily the biggest reason, but there were things that made leaving Benden behind much easier.

"Me and Yodith were on our own a lot. The other weyrlings weren't exactly pleasant about her." Cesa had started to look off into the depths of the cave. Her words coming out without her really thinking about how much she was given away. She hadn't really talked about the time at Benden all that much. For good reason apparently. "I met a greenrider called H'gin and we became friends pretty easily. Apparently he'd always been a little odd and so knew what it was like. He's the only person from Benden I ever send Teller to take letters to."

Seeming to realise just how much she was talking and how close to depressing she was, Cesa looked back at T'rel and put on a familiar smile. "Sorry, I'm rambling. Anyway, what could you tell me that I don't already know? You told me that you share everything with me." That didn't necessarily stand for now though, did it? The longer Cesa was back the more she realised T'rel didn't tell her now.

"Not much happened here," he said, shaking his head. "Ate, slept, Thread fell. What damage was done during the first fall was eventually repaired with some difficulty. Got in touch with an old friend of mine," and here he gave Cesa a smile, "Lute, you know. It'd been a while since I had spoken to anyone from the Harperhall. It was nice to have someone to talk to again." He'd missed being able to talk to Cesa during those late, lonesome nights. He'd been lucky to find Lute willing to come to his weyr with her lute and play with him. "She kept me company," he said. "We have our bouts of arguments, though. At the gather--well, you saw her." He shrugged and gave her another smile.

"Neri returned about the same time you did," he said, "from Fort." What was there to say? He felt he had shared everything with Cesa already. "Z'iv left. T'nus took over as Weyrsecond--but of course you know that." He hesitated and then shook his head. "I don't know, Cesa. Ista hasn't changed much since you left--not in any way that you haven't seen. We had some pretty tame clutches while you were away. No weyrlings did anything of note--Gereth's head getting stuck in a bucket has been my warning not to feed dragons too fast for turns now." He smirked. "You wouldn't believe how often they ask R'yn if that actually happened."

He gave another pause and studied his friend. "So tell me about H'gin," he invited. "Do you write him often? What's he like?"

Cesa nodded as T'rel spoke. Life did go on really and Ista had always been good at being reliably predictable. Not that things didn't happen, it certainly wasn't boring, but the things that did were never bad enough that you remembered them immediately. She smiled when T'rel mentioned Lute keeping him company. "I'm glad you had someone." To replace her. But she didn't say that. It must have been nice for T'rel to talk to someone who shared his interests. Cesa couldn't claim to have any knowledge of music, it had always seemed so difficult to understand to her. She knew the symbols on the page translated to sound much the same as words did, but she'd never got the hang of it. And T'rel had even managed to make something more of it. Cesa fleetingly wondered if it had been the music that had brought them together.

She already knew the rest of the things that he said. The things had either happened before she had left or she had been back long enough to hear about it. Cesa had been back at Ista for a while now and for the most part had slotted back into place. ...Actually, as she thought about it, it wasn't the same at all. She was in a wing now, doing drills as the main bulk of her day instead of baking. Baking was now just something she did in her spare time or late at night when she wouldn't bother anyone. Many of her friends from before had changed, some impressing, some starting families. Then there was T'rel, she didn't get to see him much anymore. She supposed with her now in a wing and him taking on Weyrlingmaster they were just too busy. That and someone else had dibs on T'rel's free time ahead of schedule. "People still talk about that? He's got a kid and they still talk about Gereth's head in a bucket."

"H'gin is... eccentric to say the least. He's a searchrider and he definitely has passion for what he does. He likes to think he's funny, but sometimes I laugh just to humour him, he'd be all miserable if I didn't." Cesa smiled remembering her friend. It had been a while seen she'd seen H'gin and she wondered how he was doing. After all, he could lie in a letter, but then she did have other methods of hearing from him. "I write to him- Not nearly as much as a I should really. Usually I just ask R'cen to say hi to him for me. He usually tells me how things are going."

"Hey, Gereth's head in a bucket was the highlight of my turn as Weyrleader," T'rel protested, grinning. "What gossip is there to be had about Tirynne? She'll be much more interesting once she can talk. Convince her to say something funny, the entire Weyr will hear of it in less than a candlemark." He flashed her another grin, shrugging. "She might say something like 'Daddy lets me do his hair'. I'm not sure how the Weyr would take that news. Their leader with ribbons in his hair?" He chuckled, shaking his head. "Tic won't have that trouble, I think," he said. "The Weyr won't mind so much--but can you imagine R'yn coming to drills with ribbons?"

T'rel could imagine just that, it seemed. His brown eyes had lit up with laughter, his gaze veering from Cesa as if to picture this thought more clearly. He grinned.

"I'm glad you had a friend, Cesa," he said. "I think I only realized how important friendship was, until I found myself without."
