Don't mean to offend anyone with this topic...

There's a news story about same sex marriages, and how a local mayor is trying to get them legalized within this state. They make a post on facebook and lots of comments.

This is a sentence I read in one of the comments. It's not the entire comment, but it's a sentence in and of itself and it made me wonder what people are being taught these days...

"Prayers for those who think that it's ok to live a life that leads to death."

It was in an anti-gay sentiment that this was said. It just made me wonder what people are thinking D:

Gotta question why we insist on traditional religions in a modern, revolutionized society.

People worry me.

It's not bad to have that traditional religion. However, it is bad when it prohibits people from having the same rights as any other person.

Well that's what I'm getting at. A lot of traditional religions follow moral codes that were set thousands of years ago...they simply don't apply anymore. If we could fit some tolerance into these over enthusiastic religions then maybe this world could get somewhere.

Well, you're right. Maybe if we updated religion, we wouldn't have terrorists coming to bomb us because we are bad for whatever reason. Maybe we'd have better rights for all. People say that all of this is a gateway to more "perverse" things. But I do not see what is wrong with allowing humans to have human rights. I don't think it's perverted to treat each other like equals. Oh and I write novels when I respond to things. I don't have a problem with faith. It's been very helpful to many, and a lot of people have had positive experiences with religion where if they did not have the religion, they'd be living bad lives still. There are certain moral codes within religion, like you've mentioned, that are outdated. And there are many that are not followed, so it makes anti-gay religious folk rather hypocritical. Like the requirements for marriage, or the requirements for women after their monthlies, or how altering your body in any way is bad, and so on so forth.

That's a great point too, about all the other codes that aren't followed. I can't seem to wrap my mind around why so many religions seem to insist on following this ONE boundary. That gays are evil and will never be able to reach heaven. How outrageous. Yet as they write that, they probably have piercings or tattoos of the sort, and may be even committing adultery. Part of me feels a little guilty that I'm blaming religion as a concept- but personally, I don't need a book or a man in rich clothing to tell me how to live my life. I don't need to be reminded every sunday of what is wrong and right. I just know it. I think a huge part of human society is the denial of the irresponsibility we all share. None of us want to get our hands dirty within the confines of our own minds so we turn to religions or cults or groups to give us the answers as to why bad things are happening.
Why can't humans grow up? Why are we so stubborn that it is not our fault? That there must be a higher power?
I'm not saying I'm against religion, but I question the concept of it a lot. This questioning has recently lead me into the idea that maybe humans are all around just irresponsible. We always want to push the work rather than accept it.
