I need reccomendations, though not for me! I'm a long time animetard and my boyfriend of three years has stuck through it with me, somehow, without liking anime.

Last year I was able to get him into Cowboy Bebop because he is a musician and loves Jazz and such. Thus, Cowboy Bebop was perfect, because of the music, and he fell in love with the characters as well. (I listen to the Seatbelts in my spare time and now he does too!) He watched Hellsing after that, and really enjoyed it. Both of those he comments on randomly, saying he needs them again. The only other series I got him through was Samurai Champloo, which he also loved.

He doesn't like anime because of the comedy, and cartoons have never really been his thing. So, can you guys help me figure out what "serious" anime I should try to get him to watch next?

I also tried Ergo Proxy, which is one of my favorites, but he got bored of it by the third episode and didn't want to give it another chance to build up. I've also thought about Trigun, but I'm afraid he would hate Vash! And this goes for basically all the shows I want him to see. I always find something I worry he'll hate!

Also, they've got to be in English. He's a big ol' butt when it comes to subtitles. (Unfortunately...)

Trigun's a classic, give it a shot.

A serious dubbed anime. Have you tried Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood?

Yeah, I think he may like Trigun if he gives it a chance!

And the same goes with Fullmetal Alchemist and Brotherhood. I'm afriad he would hate my favorite character. (Vash, as well as Edward.) Just because they are the main characters as well as comedic relief. I'm thinking if I do, I'll try Brotherhood because it goes by the manga and is much more intense and serious, in the later episodes. Is the dub any good later on? I only watched FMA: Brotherhood subs as it was coming out and when I tried to watch it as it was airing on American TV I had the old voices stuck in my head and couldn't watch more than a couple episodes with the older/new VAs. cat_sad

I've seen basically all anime that has been aired on Adult Swim, and then some, so I'm looking for anything else that may not be as popular, as long as there isn't too much kawaii/moe/and whatever you'd call Ed/Vash/the majority of comedy in anime.

"Ghost in the Shell" is good for someone into more serious shows. "Serial Experiment Lain" is a nice psychological type. There's also the movie adaptation of "Appleseed".

Other than that, all I can say is he better get used to the near omnipresence of comedy, as it's pretty much one of the cornerstones of human existence.

he likes music? try introducing him to Beck (Mongolian Chop Squad) which also has a live action version.

Highschool of the Dead for some sort of action, horror and thriller.

Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin).. one of the best classic anime around smile

Code Geass / Code Geass R2 is quite good too,..

Hmm I would suggest the anime Monster but not a lot of people seem to be able to get into it. It's Psychological anime of sorts, and it should be able to be found dubbed seeing as it was played on Syfy for the longest time.

Hmm...I'm going to say it's slightly doubtful but possible (?) the anime Tokko. I don't remember much comedy in it, but I could be wrong because I watched it quite a while ago.

As they said, yes you can try Trigun, that's honestly what got me into anime in the first place. Though yes I can see your point about Vash...since he is technically a huge bundle of comic relief.

EDIT: Oh did you guys know there is a movie for it? I never really went searching till a few weeks ago and I found it on AnimeCrazy. However, I don't recall whether it was english dubbed or not.

If I can think of anything else...I'll let you know for sure. Right now though, nothing else is really coming to mind. OH WAIT!!

There's a pretty old anime called s-cry-ed that for the most part is pretty serious. I don't recall there being many comedy related parts, so it should be fine.

well then... if you want things that he might like and if he likes music and serious type of stuff... ^__^ i'd be happy to help widened his mind~

The first one i will recommend is Ghost Hunt.
There is some funny parts to it but for most of the time it is serious. I think this would be a good try on him.

Hack/.sgin would probably be a soso choice. though i'm not to sure.

you could also try durarara

blood plus... Though if he is sort of like my best friend he might not like it :/

claymore might be a good one as well.

and maybe or maybe not when they cry

maybe black butler

Kaze no Stigma

But because he likes music if he likes classic i am gonna say La Corda D'Eon ~primo passo~ It's really good. >.<

probably not NANA though... D: though you could try.

But based on the fact he liked cowboy bebop he should try fairy tale, and maybe bleach... Try vampire knights, black brother hood... Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom.. razz and i'm just gonna throw this out there because i can and we all learn about it in school. xD Romeo x Juliet It's better then the real story <3

Maybe some soul eater but as he don't like funny stuff that might be out of the question and same with fairy tale Q.Q .... The daughter of twenty faces might be a good one for him. maybe Trinity blood, O.O and Uta No Prince Sama once they dub it. and that's all i can really tell you... o.o that i know off by hand.

=O but for you yourself... I WANT YOU TO WATCH FAIRY TALE, AND PRINCESS TUTU OKAY!
