Lol. Monsanto. If Monsanto believes there is no harm in genetically modified food, then they shouldn't worry about labels. If it's so good and beneficial, they should want it labelled - so buyers can opt to purchase that over conventional or organic foods.
I don't live in California, so I can't vote. Not much of a protestor myself - I'd rather write letters.

Yeah Monsanto amuses me with there theories of GMO being safe but than uses 4mil dollars against labeling kinda ironic isnt it rolleyes .
Im going to try to register to vote in the next couple of days im not sure if prop 37 is connected to any political party which im stuck at because i might not be able to vote if im not attached to the party im voteing for.

-face palm- arugh.....
I personally don't live in Cali, but my stance is that its hard to escape GMO foods, nearly everything is modified, let it be artificially with foreign DNA sequences or hand selected traits with generations of artificial selection.
My sorrows towards Monsanto. The field I want to study relies heavily on seed development, and Monsanto features so many internships, but I know how bad they are to farmers which negates my desired purpose! I eye them so bad, but I tell myself I can't go there.
Argh... 4 mil to stop labels or 4 mil for labels, I can understand their reasoning, since I work in a manufacturing company that deals with consumer health.
To change literature in anything even if its: hey we changed our phone number! Requires thousands of dollars to get the literature read, re-evaluated through the polices and laws and regulations and re-accepted, the frustration just to get literature in, accepted and put to print is a very long frustrating process and very pricey. So to change the label even to prove that GMO's are beneficial would cost so much time and money and could possibly halt in production, which means lost revenue for the companies/brands we buy from.
So even if your super market sell raisins and one bag already just says "ORGANIC" for 7.99, and the regular bag of Sun Maid is only 4.99, but now it has a required labeling to say "GMO grapes" and data, its possible you won't be seeing Sun Maid for some time because of halted production. (Only a possible example)
And honestly, I don't think it would change much, considering we eat rice that has been modified to resist drought and parasites and viruses in environments that could be cleaner, if it wasn't for the explosion of the human population.
Even the seeds we buy from the store to plant in our gardens to be more 'organic', are GMOs, your best bet would be buy heirloom seeds from gardeners who have bred the plants for generations and may have superior seeds.
If anything, labels would help increase urban farming and more victory gardens. Even if the polls were in NY, I wouldn't know what to vote for. I'd probably stay home and mope that I can't get my tomatoes to grow properly.

I'm a California resident, I even live in the capital. I'm all registered to vote, and I'm definitely voting for GMO labeling. I think it's important to know as much about your food as possible. GMOs have caused a lot of trouble and there are studies that showed that they could be what's contributing to the rise of certain food allergies. Is it going to be troublesome for companies? Heck yeah. Do I think it's worth the trouble, even if farmers could lose revenue? Yes, yes I do. Even though I come from a farming community, I do.
As for protesting? That's not my style. I'm a letter-writer, petition-signer and dedicated voter.

I'm all in favor of GMO labeling, and transparency in general in our food supply. Many of the other developed nations on the planet have labeling laws, or are working on banning GMOs altogether. Here's a link to a reputable group that is campaigning to get Prop 37 passed - http://www.organicconsumers.org/bytes/ob346.htm. There's an artlcle from a scientist with more info about the downside of GMOs. If you are registered to vote in California, you can vote yes on Prop 37 this November, regardless of political party affiliation.
