Hello all,

I’m pretty new to Gaia, and I’m brand new to roleplaying! I’m a little unsure as to where I should start, and I don’t want to jump into somebody’s RP and botch it all up ^-^;

A little bit about me: I enjoy writing very much. My dream is to become a published fiction author. I enjoy supernatural plots, but I’m a closeted traditional fantasy nerd. I also would like to get into a good slice of life RP, but I’m not really sure of anything just yet. All in all, I look forward to having fun with all of you, (and turning this into a great writing exercise for myself along the way).

I'd really like to make some friends along the way, too. I haven't had much luck yet in that department since I started Gaia... just throwing it out there wink

My favorite characters usually revolve around humans and witches. I like the idea of a character that has to use brains and wit to accomplish a task or get out of a situation. I guess it's brains over brawn any day for me!

I haven't really made any characters yet, though I'm sure I'll probably make a few tonight! Character creating is probably the most fun when creating a novel/story, so I'm pretty excited about getting started.

What are usually characteristics you like to portray when playing your characters?

I'm afraid I can't really speak much for RP'ing, I've only done a lot in one RP and he's this cocky, loud adventurer kind of guy. The other RP.... I'm not too sure how to go about it, and I've kind of fazed out. sweatdrop

In my stories though, I often use a quiet character, or sensible character because that's closer to myself in reality. It's not very creative, but I find it easy for me. Au contraire, however, I like throwing in really zany, colourful characters to the mix, I have fun writing them, even if they're hard for me to keep up with. I've had a few experiences with using a psychopath or an insane person and I had a lot of fun, but I'm not sure how I'll do it in the future because the past ones were difficult to write out. One thing I can write well is the really menacing, dark, I'm-going-to-kill-everyone kind of character, but I don't take that one out very often.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I'll certainly have to check out the Summer Bash, it sounds like a load of fun. Is it an o.k. place for beginners though? I don't want my horrifying RP skills to mess everyone else's good time...

I'm ecstatic you wish to be a writer as well! Horror is a terrific genre, simply because the author can really create some fun characters to play with. I love placing a little bit of horror in my stories to give the reader a shock factor. I don't want to generic female hero to save the day with rainbows and butterfly companions... she gets down, dirty, bloody and gritty to do so. Granted, she can be a bit selfish at times too but... I'd have to post a whole synopsis here to explain THAT reason wink I'd also LOVE to swap experiences and techniques. Shoot me a PM anytime you’re up for it!

The Summer Bash is designed to bring people of all skills together so it's perfect for beginners and we'd love to have you! It's the most basic sort of RP out there - a walk-in, where you don't even have to submit a character. Just walk right in and start posting.

As for recommending you something, we're working on building up our RP lists but you can check what we've got so far in the What is Going On thread - where we keep guild announcements and all our RP lists.

Unfortunately I don't think we have a proper slice of life going on at the moment. The closest we've got is the SDRP Academy - an RP about teaching people how to RP. The characters are students from all kinds of other worlds attending a strange school where they are aware of their being RP characters learning how to RP. During classes there's some fun player on character interaction in getting class assignments done and then out of class the characters will be free to wander the campus in a slice of life type scenario. Right now though the Academy is on summer break and the students are attending the Summer Bash while we renovate the campus from a single thread RP into a subforum. You're welcome to apply now though and even take your student into the Summer Bash if you'd like.

We're also talking about starting a casual, probably slice of life RP for a general hang out to help with guild advertising in Barton Town. If you've got ideas for that we'd love to hear them. Just head on over to the Official Guild Ad and tell us what you think.
