Keeping a Journal

The exercise of writing down reflections about events experienced each day is an invaluable way to evaluate your performance...set higher standards of excellence...and find new ways to solve difficult problems. Particularly when dealing with a new and strange situation, such as the colonists of Masquerade, and the Masque Children themselves.

Many people resist keeping a journal because they think they aren't good enough writers... that someone will read their innermost thoughts...or that they have much more important things to do.

Instead of thinking of a journal as a diary - a book in which you merely relate the day's events - think of it as a container for self reflection, self-expression and self exploration. Retelling the day's events is less relevant than the act of expressing your thoughts. And giving yourself and others to learn how the Masque and Gaurdian differ and are the same. Developing characters is very important.

Its simple just start with a question then work on answering it (In Character).

Examples: "Why am I feeling so angry?" "What I want most in life is..." "What's the most important thing I need to do tomorrow?" The springboard approach is just one way to break your writer's block.

Write an unsent letter.

Create dialogues. Another way to express deep feelings is to write about your feelings - and then write in the imagined voice of the other person.
Freeze frame happy moments. Immerse yourself in recollection, filling the page with physical and emotional detail. Most people report they feel refreshed and energized after writing out their favorite moments.

Explore the roads not taken in your life. What would your life be like right now? This technique is an extremely powerful tool for developing decision-making skills about your future.

Imagine yourself one month from now - and one year from now. Where are you now? Where do you want to be? What are some of the things you can do to get there? Write it all down, as a confession to yourself. The words will awaken your intuitive and creative wisdom, which, in turn, will help you make better decisions.

Your journal will make you aware of how life and dreams change, how some remain the same, and, best of all, it teaches you how to think clearly about everything you do. Watch as your Masquerade child learns and grows... in more way than one.

Explaining Speed, Intelligence, etc.

Because no-one really understands the current scale of 1-100 that is used to rate the skills of the Masques and Rade, I think I'm going to change it to a scale of 1-10 which I will define below. Though none of the actual abilities of your Masque will be changing, they will simply be better defined.

I have also decided to add the skills Dexterity and Performance. Dexterity is the total of the Masques Original Strength and Health divided by 10. Performance is the NEW Intelligence and Dexterity added and divided by 2. Just so you know that I am not randomly assigning numbers to your Child... Though the new skills must be honed individually and will not grow as the parent skill grows.

None of the skills can start at higher than 10.0, however through RP the skills can increase, noticeable increases occur at 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0. (Or every 25%).

Strength
The ability to exert Maximum Force contraction of your working muscles.

Strength can be improved fastest with a combination of flexibility, endurance, and weight training.

1 = 15 lbs... 100 = 800 lbs

For each 25% of a point your strength increases to lift an additional 2 lbs, note this only gauges you approximate capacity to bench press.

Example: Io has a Strength of 8.5 - She would be able to bench about 75 lbs.

Health
A person's ability to efficiently respond to challenges, such as climate change or infection and effectively restore and sustain an internal state of balance.

Health can be improved fastest by establishing a good diet, weekly exercise, and personal time for meditation/introspection, keep a journal.

1 = Always Sick... 100 = Never Gets Sick.

For each 25% of a point your health improves with the difference of 4 colds a year to just 3. Or depressed to confident and active. Though health is very hard to place on a scale.

Example: Io has a Health of 9 - She is an Active and Adventurous young lady. However a bit too serious, there are likely some deep troubles lurking just beneath the surface.

Intelligence
True intelligence is one's own knowledge acquired by one's interests, opinions and philosophies. A person's ability to think critically, analytically, rationally and open-mindedly is another key ingredient.

Intelligence can be improved by life experiences, formal education, or personal interests.

1 = Vegetable... 100 = Genius

For each 25% of a point your ability towards rational thought increases slightly. Developing more common sense, and analytical problem solving skills.

Example: Io has an intelligence of 10 - While bright most of her actions are still not thought out to the extent that they deserve.

Speed
The rate of motion, or equivalently the rate of change in position, many times expressed as distance traveled per unit of time.

Speed can be improved by improving ones Health and Strength. With a steady regular jog, or healthy diet.

1 = You have a hard time walking at all... 100 = 30 MPH

For each 25% of a point your speed increases by 0.15 MPH, note this only gauges your Max Speed On Foot.

Example: Io has a speed of 9.0 - She would have a comfortable run of 5.4 MPH for about 30 minutes or Sprint at 8 MPH for 5 minutes.

Dexterity
Fine motor skills can be defined as coordination of small muscle movements which occur e.g., in the fingers, usually in coordination with the eyes. In application to motor skills of hands (and fingers) the term dexterity is commonly used.

Dexterity can be improved by repetitive motion exercises such as knitting, sewing, stretching or video games. It is a function based on Hand/Eye coordination.

1 = You have a hard time sitting cross legged (20 degree RoM).... 100 = Contortionist (280 degree RoM)

For each 25% of a point your Dexterity increases by 0.5 degrees in range of motion, note this only gauges flexibility and Hand/Eye coordination. (degrees are based on Spinal Range of Motion)

Example: Io has a Dexterity of 8.75 - Should would have a RoM of 35.5 degrees.

Performance
A species of value theory or axiology, which is the study of sensory or sensori-emotional values, sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste.

Can be improved with repetitive practice/rehearsal.

1 = Your an Open Book... 100 = Shakespeare was in love with you.

For each 25% of a point your ability to deceive/convince through performance increases by 25%, note this only gauges your affect on one target not a large audience.

Example: Io has a Performance of 9.3 - She would be 9.25% convincing when lying to her parents. This percentage doubles with the more when telling half-truths.
