Yeah, the ice caps have actually already started melting. Louisiana and Florida are at the most risk though, I think...Entire archipelagoes could also be flooded over.
I heard that most scientists believe that global warming IS happening. There are still those who think that it's just another phase of the Earth (as it has experienced many dramatic temperature changes before--i.e., the Ice Age), but even if it is, it's obvious that human activity has is making it accelerate.
And yes, CO2 and other greenhouse gases emissions DO benefit the Earth, but only to a point. Without greenhouse gases, the Earth would freeze over. They act as a kind of barrier or "lid" over the Earth's atmosphere that allow sunlight to come through to Earth in the form of heat, but not to let heat out. This warms up Earth so that life can exist, but when there are too much, as there are now (especially of CO2), then the Earth heats up. wink

Many do believe that this is one of earth's phases, my opinion is according to the earth's history, it should be cooling down, not warming up. It has been speculated that every 3 billion years the earth goes through a plate shift and a total climate change but im not sure how much evidence they have! I would like to talk to you more, riku, on this matter if you like.
