I tried Morrowind out after playing Oblivion and Skyrim, and was taken aback by all the text! blaugh I should have expected it, I guess, but I never had a regular Xbox, just started with the 360, so I was surprised. I also find it kind of annoying. Instead of just a quick dialogue box, you get like a whole page of text, with tabs containing other pages. And half the town says the same thing. stressed Kind of irritating. I don't mind text-based games, since most of my RPG collection is old school, but Morrowind takes it to an extreme.
Thoughts?

Don't get me wrong I love morrowind it is where I started in tes and is fantastic! But as far as today's gaming goes txt boxes are to old to be used effectivly but at the same time we can't say as much in games. It is the price for convinence also morrowind i believe was the first one to use voice actors.? Not 100% it has been a while since I played Arena or Daggerfall so....

I haven't played in a while but it seems like major scenes were voice-acted, but to talk to the townspeople you got page-long text boxes.

And you have to realize, although that many characters say the same thing, there is a massive amount of reading material as compared to the short dialogue contained within Oblivion or Skyrim. It isn't as enriching or informative as Morrowind was, when you asked them about something, you get paragraphs back.
I played Final Fantasy 5, 7, 8, 9 and Tactics repeatedly for years, I've played Arena, Daggerfall, and have Morrowind (along with Oblivion and Skyrim), and dozens of other text-based adventures, and I'm so used to text boxes.
Besides that, reading is fun. Only lazy people complain about reading. xd

Hardly. Reading on screens can hurt your eyes, especially when there's crappy font that you can't change. I actually bought a new, larger television after I got "Lost Odyssey" on the Xbox because the font was too small and pale to read and it really gave me a headache.

It's a tough call for me, text-based or voice acting. Bad voice actors can really ruin a game for me, but as stated above, tiny text can be a problem too.
However, I still prefer text-boxes, because you can insert your own voices for people! Being able to do that makes the game more fun to me for some reason 3nodding That's why I find myself turning off voices and turning on subtitles (if given the option) most of the time. The lack of voices leaves more to the imagination I guess.

Being a slightly older gamer, I prefer text-base, there is something classy about them. Not that I don't like audio its just so easy to screw it up.
