EDIT: I think is a Laothoe populi but I'm no genius (wikipedia is, the site I looked it up on XD)

Yep, looks like Laothoe populi (or Poplar Hawkmoth, which is easier to remember). I see them from time to time at my parents' house.

emiri-chou that's the first time I'd ever seen one, and it scared the crap outta me XD I opened the door and it was suddenly in my face! Like "YO I'MMA A MOTH AND I'M GONNA EAT YER CLOTHES!" Hehe, my first time seeing one was kinda like that. I opened my brother's back door, and it was on the side of the doorway right at eye level. It really creeped me out at first, even though I usually like moths (especially the big silkmoths) because it's just such a weird shape.

He looks a lot like the big gray tree moths we have here in the mountains...hmmmm
