Lorrono
Hesitating

Utrin was unconscious. That was very obvious. He wasn't the type to pretend to be hurt when he wasn't, so Lorrono was fairly sure he was out. Which left Lorrono facing two likely angry fellow apprentices all by himself, when he had tried to avoid fighting in the first place.

This smelled like wherry dung.

He cowered in on himself slightly, backing away from the pair and looking between the two of them uncertainly. If he tried to run, would they chase him? Tal didn't look like he was in very good shape, considering how hard he was breathing. Could Lorrono take both of them if he surprised them?

Kala
Coercing Lorrono

Kala felt a ping of pity for Lorrono and the situation he found himself in, but at the same time she felt more relaxed herself. She had only wanted Utrin out of the way; it was clear that Lorrono was doing this out of coercion more than free will, as he really wasn't the fighting type. Well. That much was clear from his attacks. Kala made sure she didn't look menacing and didn't take a step forward.

"You don't have to fight us," she told him. "Utrin is unconscious. He won't know if you stopped trying. I know you didn't want to fight us or turn against the weyrs. Sometimes people can be very persuasive when they feel they have the power on their side." She kept her eyes on his, but she thought Lorrono was going to end up with a nice bruise on his face. That was good for him, no matter how this fight went. "If you leave now, we won't chase you. Find somewhere to hide until this is all over or get out of the weyr. If the weyr wins, we won't tell anyone what happened."

Talakor
Conversing

Tal caught his breath while Lorrono backed away and Kala turned her attention to him. Tal didn't think he was worth attacking, but if Kala did so, Tal would help her. He just needed a minute to recover from all of the fast-paced fighting. One would think that with all of their training this wouldn't be so strenuous, but they had all been trained in the same manner, so their skills differed only through experience.

Kala's slow coercion didn't surprise Talakor, but her last offer did. Sure, he wouldn't mind not continuing this fight if they could move on to greener pastures-- come on, what's-his-face wouldn't be a challenge, it would hardly be fair to team up on him-- but just letting him go and promising to keep quiet?

"What? Why not? Have you seen the bruises he gave me? And his judgement can't be trusted. Look at who he sided with!" Tal protested.

Lorrono
Conversing

Lorrono was torn as Kala began speaking to him in a gentled version of her usual calm, directing voice. At first he thought that she might be trying to trick him... but the more she said, the more he didn't believe that was true. He turned over what she was saying, over how much he also believed, and he let Talakor say his piece without interruption. The hand Kala held up at Tal and the look she directed his way swayed Lorrono's decision in her favor.

"What if the weyr doesn't win?" he asked in a hushed voice, looking fearfully at her. "What if they do and they find out that I didn't fight?"

Kala
Conversing

Kala redirected her attention to Lorrono and she smiled slightly. "If the weyr doesn't win, then I think you'll have enough bruises to show you fought for them. Utrin won't be able to tell them differently; when he wakes up, you'll be long gone. Tell them that Utrin fell and after trying to fight two of us, you realized you were just going to be overwhelmed and went off to catch your breath and find an easier target. These kinds of people like easier targets. They won't question that from you."

Kala waited for Lorrono to make his choice. She saw his eyes dart between her and Talakor, and then he broke into a run, vanishing out the door. She waited, hearing his footsteps recede, and then sighed and looked over at Talakor.

"I'm glad we could help him now, before he fought someone who didn't care that this wasn't really his choice."

Talakor
Conversing

"I'm glad that we got rid of both of them without any more fighting. I don't know how much more my body could have taken!" Talakor exclaimed, slumping back against the wall and resting his head against it. He shook his head and after a long moment lifted it to look at her.

"Good timing, by the way, and a good call on what's-his-face."

"Lorrono."

"Right, him. So, you think he'll do as you ask and actually find a hiding place? I would put my money on it. He's not really brave, by any stretch of the imagination."

Kala and Talakor
Conversing

Kala shook her head and walked over to lean on the wall beside him. "No, he isn't brave, but I hope that means he won't get hurt again either. Not everyone can be willing to stand up to a stronger opponent. I don't imagine that being approached by Utrin and saying 'no' would have been easy."

Kala looked down at the body. "Come on. Let's find some cord to tie him with. I don't want him wandering around when he wakes up."

They searched the room with little luck, and in the end just left him in there and propped a chair under the door handle in the hallway. It might not hold him indefinitely, but it was the best they could do on short notice. Neither was willing to pick him up and carry him anywhere.

"Let's go find some more of Utrin's buddies. I don't think many Dolphineers are getting as lucky as we are, having a teammate," Talakor said, and started off down the hall with Kala on his heels.
