I was raised in a very strict Liberal upbringing. Anti-War Anti-Gun, stuff like that, and also gullibility.

I was young, and I actually didn't really know politics too well, so I assumed, that when my parents were talking about Bush and Republicans being bad, that they must be. I was 14.

So, I decided to take an interest in politics long after, still a Liberal and still quite stupid. In debates I get pwned no matter what I have done and said and put up, and surprisingly, the transition from Left to Right actually began in an Anti-Bush club on Vampirefreaks.com (I am not Gothic or anything or into the stuff but a RL friend wanted me on there so I did it) and in that club, there were a couple of Conservatives who debated with the Liberals and did quite a good job of pwning people.

Then, way later as I started thinking on where I was going at, (like maybe 2+ years?) I started to be more right of course, and I and my boyfriend moved away and I lived on my own with him, and as I got on my own and thought for myself, I suddenly realized that indeed, I was surely a Republican.

Man, when my parents heard this, they flipped and threw every Conspiracy theory known to man at me. My husband has always been Republican, he just didn't outright say it when he was in my parent's home. pirate

I love being Right. whee

It's more of a "HOSHIT I WAS THAT STUPID?! WTF! DX" type of thing.

I can't beleive how stupid I was, I must have looked like a FAILIURE in front of everyone in town!

I remember very specifically being in Science class in 7th grade while watching a video on the plight of Africa, something about AIDS. When the video was over, I remember my teacher stating that we were very lucky to be Americans, that people all over the world would die to make it here. I thought about this and realized that we had more freedoms than any other country in the world and an amazing economy to back it up. Later that week, I couldn't help but notice a variety of ungrateful students badmouthing America and stating how a Communist society would be so much better than the one we have now. From there, I began hearing more and more about special interest groups which detailed how they attempted to spread diversity through America. Upon further study, it came to my attention that each special interest group only wanted special interest for themselves. It was a double standard that people wanted rights only when it benefitted whatever specific race or creed they represented, and that the shield of diversity and repairations hid secret agendas for only specific people. It disgusted me, and I realized that I could never respect people who did that.

Especially PeTA, quite possibly the world's most hypocritical organization.

Was it a personal choice? Did family help? School? Friends?

How did you come to ally yourself with conservative ideals?

i've always been conservative. the looney left never made much sense even at a young age. my grandparents have been trying to heap socialism on me while i was growing up (my lemonade experiment ended in prompt failure).
it was only a matter of time before the humaniac, pinko-commie, ultra radical enviromorons rhetoric and propaganda that was spoon fed to me in school turned me for good.

Hmm; its odd how most people posting in here talk about there republican or other right sided believes and not their conservative ideology.. or atleast, not directly their conservative views.

Anyway, I pretty much grew up knowing that I only get what I worked for, if I wanted money to go somewhere I had to do work and if I wanted money complaining wasnt the option, Id have to go out and start some business venture [which is why I have embarked on atleast 6 business's and im only 15 wink ]... anyway I am independant but definitely leaning right...

I cant stand socialists because as 'stardumb' once explained it to me it wouldnt make much sence if one day I was selling pop at school [like I do] and a guy walked up to me, took half of the 20 bucks I just made and gave it to the kid next to me because he didnt sell pop and wasnt making the money I was.... I never really influenced my views in anyway and I never made a plan to become capitalist or republican or on the right side, I just grew up in an environment that basically taught me to fend for myself, and that I get what I do and nothing else... I only started noticing my ideas until "stardumb", the business man above me started talking to me a lot about politics... the more he talked about all the parties and the pinkos the more I realized I was always on leaning right. ^^

I've always been conservative on moral issues. I used to be a down-right socialist when it came to the economy, though... but a Gov/Econ Course changed that.

I also used to be a pacifist... 9/11 plus reading the Old Testament changed that too...

Well, my parents are chronically moderate. So I wasn't spoonfed their beliefs ... but between my parents and some of my best teachers in high school, I was taught a lot about critical thinking, rhetoric, and forming opinions for myself. Then when I was on the cross-country team I had one teammate who was a total liberal whackjob. The more he talked, the more I realized my political views were his polar opposite. xp

I didn't become interested in politics or ideologies or anything really until 9/11.

I'd always had some thoughts on things because my parents are conservative Republicans, but I wasn't really interested. I wasn't very old, either, though I do remember the later half of the Clinton years and my dad explaining what was going on. I grew up with a distinct distaste for Clinton.

When 9/11 hit it was I guess you could say a "shock" to my system. From the moment when I was sitting in a classroom staring at my teacher in horror as they explained what happened, that was it for me, I was done being ignorant.

My views were built around the basic foundations Dad gave me when I was little (like 8 till then) and the religious values I grew up with. I don't know how anyone can be a flaming liberal and reconcile that with Christianity.

As I've gotten a little older my beliefs have started moving away from my parents just a little. I'm a little more open than they are, proabably because I'm younger and have a bunch of liberals for teachers. But mostly we're still on the same wavelength.

Hmmm for me...

My father served in the AF for 22 years, with him we got to go overseas alot. This showed me from a young age how lucky I was to be a citizen of a republic, even luckier that it was the USA...

I grew up reading Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and others so for me it was obvious where they were coming from in forming our nation. Besides giving my money to people other than my family when I know they did nothing to earn it really, really bugs me...

Also the Republicans, as best realized under Ronald Reagan, wanted a small government, wanted me to watch out for myself and promised to stay out of my business as long as I did not bother others...So I cast my 1st vote for one of our greatest Presidents ever Ronald Reagan.

Remember: "Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one"
Thomas Paine, 'Common Sense'
