That Professor was out to get him!

Quillan was sure of it--near 100% positive that the old cranky bat was out to make his life living hell. Ever since he "accidentally" tripped and spilled his boil cure potion all over the professor's robes (let's just say that Quillan had the "boil" part of that potion down!), this class quickly became the bane of his school life. Mainly because the old fart makes sure he knows where I am 24/7.... Which was also due to not only that earlier mishap but Quillan scurrying around in the Professor's own personal ingredient closet...

But either way. That Professor was out to get him!

Ever since the end of last year, Dorian and he hadn't even spoke one word to each other. The reason? Dorian's gorilla of a girlfriend. The memory was enough to make a snarl appear on his face. Before that instant, he had sincerely thought that Dorian was one of his best friends in school but he turned out to be some stuck up drool-brain. I suppose better late than never he thought bitterly. Sure, a part of him missed Dorian... but he also missed his mother's mashed potatoes with similar intensity.

This year, Quillan managed to scrape by without as much as looking Dorian's way and that was perfectly awesome. But of course--since the potion's professor held one heck of a grudge, he paired them together on a scavenger hunt for ingredients around the school. I hope your cat poops on your bed Quillan's eyes narrowed at the professor's back before scraping out of his chair. Without so much as a glance Dorian's way, he trotted out the room with the rest of the class, leaving the responsibility of grabbing the list to Dorian.

Because he was always so wonderfully responsible.

Dorian was positive that the last two of their professors for the day had conspired together to force their students to do this crazy scavenger hunt so that they could spend time doing something other than teach. It was frustrating when the teachers did that, especially when Dorian would prefer to learn and not go out and do stupid assignments. He was even more perturbed when the professor put him and Quill together as partners. This was going to be a really long day.

It wasn't that he hated Quill, he just didn't like him all that much. He was still being a stupid and pulling pranks on people. Not to mention he wasn't even trying to spend time studying or working on his assignments. Not that Dorian cared. Though it had been rather frustrating when Quill had managed to get over 200 points taken away from their House. A lot of the House mates had been really mad at Quill for that. It was fortunate that Dorian had talked them out of beating the crap out of him.
Not that Quill knew about it. He was just so dang oblivious to what was going on around him.

Dorian scowled at Quill's back when he ran out of the room without even hearing the rules of the scavenger hunt. Or even taking the time to get the list. With a loud sigh, Dorian grabbed the list off the desk and dashed after him.

"Hey! Wait up Quillan!" Dorian yelled loudly. He knew that would probably stop Quill, mostly because he hated when people said his full name.

Quillan heard Dorian call after him and reluctantly slowed his pace. When he heard Dorian's footsteps louder behind him, he twirled around on his heel to face his former-friend. "Let's see what we have to do," He said with no particular affection, plucking the list out of Dorian's hands.

He wasn't quite sure how he was supposed to act around Dorian anymore--it was obvious they weren't friends anymore... Quillan had to admit that this day was inevitable--they slept in the same room for Pete's sake! But despite knowing this, it didn't make hanging around Dorian any easier. Quillan didn't like how much energy it took to stay mad at someone--but he was sure as hell stubborn enough to keep up the act... At least until Dorian apologized for what he did!

"The first thing..." Quillan glanced down at the list and a frown quickly formed on his face. "Well, ain't this wonderful." He groaned, his brows furrowing. Dorian would have a ball with this--"They're riddles, congratulations." Dorian was always the one for these nauseatingly annoying and tedious tasks. "All the ingredients are in riddles... and the first one is:

'I have a neck but no head.
I have a body but no arm.
I have a bottom but no leg.'

"What do you suppose that is?"
Quillan inquired lack luster-ly. Of course Dorian would figure it out in a second--he lived off dumb things like this--and they'd be well on their way for this dumb scavenger hunt.

In his mind, Quillan pictured what the riddle described. There was the neck, a curvy two linse... the body like a torso... and a bottom. "Kinda seems like a bottle," he mused to himself. "I mean, if you look at it like this," Quillan took out his wand and a soft light sparked at the end. He used it like a laser to draw the image in air.

Dorian was a bit surprised when Quill spun around and pulled the list out of his hand. He shoved his his hands into his pockets and waited for Quill to read it. He had managed to glance at it before he had lost it and knew that everything was listed in riddles.

He could tell that Quill was uncomfortable at being so close and he knew that his ex-best friend would more than likely stay stubborn and not say anything about it. Dorian ran his hand through the back of his hair as he listened to Quill read.

He held back a laugh when Quill realized that it was in riddles.

He was about to reply to Quill's question and then decided not to. He figured that it was easy enough that he would be able to figure it out on his own. He was however rather surprised when Quill was able to solve the riddle so quickly.
"You're right, it is a bottle. I have an empty one in my trunk, we should go get it."

Quillan was a bit peeved when he looked up after guessing that it was a bottle. Dorian had a look on his face that made him think that he knew the answer all along. That's just delicious. Quillan thought regrettably. The little git knew the answer all along! Was he waiting for Quillan to solve it? Or maybe even to swoop in heroically if Quillan couldn't solve it? Either way, Quillan's eyes narrowed at Dorian. He kept quiet, however. Arguing was only going to put them further behind the rest of the groups in the search.

From what he caught from the Professor's instructions, not only was there some sort of reward for being first to turn in all the ingredients and make a successful potion, there also was punishment for being last. Knowing that old geezer, he probably was expecting Quillan to drag even someone like Dorian down and end up being last... That wasn't going to happen! The last punishment was cleaning out the old man's reserve stores and those things smelled of something foul.

"To the dorms, then." Quillan found the hallway leading the the Slytherin's Common Room fairly easily--at least he learned something from first year! However, when he stopped at the entrance, he stopped dead in his tracks. "Do you remember what the password is?" He inquired with a tinge of annoyance in his voice. Quillan couldn't help but note the irony--the first time Dorian and he were together, Quillan didn't know the password either! "Old habits die hard, aye?" He muttered, mostly to himself, trying to shield the amusement from his face. After all, he didn't want Dorian to think he was okay with him again!

While waiting for Dorian to open the door, Quillan glanced down at the list again.

"I move without wings,
Between silken strings,
I leave as you find
My substance behind."

Quillan eyebrow rose. "Does he think we're that daft?" He inquired in disbelief. "That old git!" He growled, "I don't understand how that doesn't spell out spider!" Now, this was really an insult to their intelligence! There wasn't anything Quillan could do now... but he'd get payback later. With a small crooked grin, Quillan glanced at Dorian. "I hid a nasty one of those in your sock drawer earlier today--really fuzzy and big. We'll grab that sucker."

Dorian could guess that Quill was annoyed with him.
Perhaps he shouldn't have just stood there and let him figure it out. You could never do anything right around Quill..how could he have forgotten?

Dorian just shrugged and followed after Quill. Thankfully over the summer he had been more active and had gotten faster so it wasn't as hard to keep up with the red head. Not that it had been hard the year before, it was mainly keeping up with Quill's train of thought. Man did he ever change his mind on things. He had never known what to expect next. He hoped that today it wasn't going to be that bad.

He wasn't surprised when Quill asked for a reminder of the password, but he kept his face neutral. "Abacus." Dorian said leaning forward towards the portrait.

The portrait door swung open and Dorian made his way into the dorm.
He was surprised to see two other teams already searching for spiders in the common room, which they were struggling to do because they had their legs tied together.

"Crap, did you forget to read the rules all the way? Looks like it's a three legged scavenger hunt." Dorian muttered as he went into the dorm room. He searched through his trunk to find something to tie their legs together with.

Dorian almost didn't hear the last bit that Quill had said and then looked up sharply at him. "Did you say my sock drawer? You do know that I leave it open for my cat to sleep in right? He may have eaten it by now."

Oh... this is just peculiar, Quillan's eyes narrowed at the sight in the common room. "How is being three-leggeed even relevant?" He burst out immediately, looking at the kids in disbelief. Three legged? Were these professors trying to get them killed?

Just as he thought that, one of the groups began hopping out of the common room. Unable to resist, Quillan stealthily shot his leg out and caught the ankle of one of the kids--and once one of them stumbled, it was a giant mess of limbs and yelps. "Yikers! Are you two alright?" Quillan inquired, feigning innocence. Of course, these two being housemates, they weren't fooled. After some bitter grumblings and a heck ton more of stumbles and trips, they managed to get up and begin hopping back on their way... Like a bunny, Quillan thought almost giddily, watching the group exit. "Man, that would suck," he observed with a laugh.

While he was watching this whole ordeal, he was faintly aware of Dorian speaking to him. "Hm, that's interesting," Quillan finally replied--unsure of everything Dorian even said. When he turned his attention back to the other boy, his eyes once again narrowed.

"No." He said firmly, pointing at the rope. "You would have to pay me five hundred galleons before I did that. Tie up yourself instead." Quillan frowned, waving Dorian away as he went over to Dorian's drawers and opened the one containing all the socks.

"Still alive," Quillan noted, picking up a large tarantula out of the sock drawer. "I figured Remy wouldn't eat this little fellow..." Quillan smiled at the creature, "Isn't that right, little fellow? You aren't going to get eaten! Nom nom nom," Quillan spoke in a tone most people used for cute animals or babies... not overgrown tarantulas. "We're going to sacrifice you instead--nom nom nom!" He continued, still using the voice. The spider scampered around up his arm.

"Let's go--and no, once again. I am not being tied up with you." After he said what he did, Quillan blinked at the venom that came out of his voice. Huh. His lids lowered a bit. "Are we going to continue or what?" He finally inquired, tapping his foot impatiently.

Dorian held back his annoyance with how Quill was acting and shook his head. It seemed that all of his work to keep Quill from getting the crap beaten out of him had been for nothing. He should just walk away now and forget about him. It would be fore the best.

Still..there was the whole thing about the assignment and it meaning so much to their grade at the end of the year. His reluctance to get a failing grade was his damn downfall. It always was. He sighed.

"What is the point of doing the assignment but not all the way? I'm sure those two you tripped will gladly tell the professor you didn't follow the rules. I imagine you don't care about getting a failing grade for the assignment but you do realize this assignment is worth 35% if our overall grade for the year? It means you'd have to repeat the class again next year if you fail it. I doubt you want to be stuck with the professor again. Think of all the terrible things he'd use against you then. Not to mention..I won't be around to help."

Dorian wasn't surprised his cat hadn't eaten the tarantula when he saw how big it was. It was nearly as big as his hand. Thankfully he wasn't the squeamish type when it came to spiders. "So you thought you were going to scare me with this guy?" Dorian asked leaning over to pet the spider on one hairy leg..

"Suit yourself, if you want to repeat the class that's fine with me." Dorian retorted and threw the rope back into his trunk. "Give me that, I want to see the next one."

You use it between your head and your toes
The more you use it the smaller it grows

"Soap, that was easy." Dorain said with a shrug. "Only do they want a used piece or an unused piece?"

"Since when is busy work 35% of our grade?" Quillan muttered bitterly. Because he slept so often during class, his grade wasn't the best to begin with . Loosing 35% would, unfortunately, just like Dorian said, cause him to repeat the class. "Bloody hell. Give me that rope," Quillan cursed, putting the tarantula in his robe pocket and snatching the rope from Dorian.

He was kneeling on the ground tying them together in a generously loose rope while Dorian was reading off the next riddle. To be honest, he wasn't paying much attention to the riddle, just mostly the rope sliding between his finger, so when Dorian solved--or said he solved--the riddle, Quillan just nodded and trusted what the kid said. "Alright--and I don't think it should matter what kind of soap... I mean, for sanitary purposes we might get a new one," Quillan stood up and gave the rope a little test pull before slinking his arm around Dorian's shoulder.

It was a nostalgic feeling--and Quillan almost grinned. Dorian hated when he touched him. Heheheh, he thought maniacally.

"Let's go, Skippy," He declared, dragging the two of them out of the common room and down the hallway to the bathrooms. When they got there, Quillan noticed that almost all the soaps were gone except one... And another group was just about to grab it!

"C'mon Dorian!" Quillan flung himself forward, sliding on the bathroom's wet floor (there must have been a leak). They were on a full throttle towards the other group! A rather... Straight on... path! "Brace yourself!" Quillan let out a valiant battle cry as both of their bodies smacked against their classmates'.

Dorian shrugged at Quill's bitter muttering. He had no clue why a teacher would place such a high grade on one assignment. It was almost as if he was hoping they would all fail. "Maybe he wants us to fail, I don't know. He is the vindictive sort after all. Maybe..he won't be back next year, and that's why he's doing this, so he can get back at you."

Dorian was relieved when Quill cursed and asked for the rope. He was about to give it to him when Quill grabbed it out of his hand. "I highly doubt the tarantula is going to stay in your pocket. We might want to get a cage for it."

Dorian finished reading the riddle and looked down at Quill who was tying a much too loose knot around their legs. Dorian sighed. They'd never get very far if the rope slipped and they kept falling. "You should.." He stopped himself from going further, knowing Quill would be annoyed by any suggestion he gave. He sighed again. Fine..he'd just keep silent and let Quill learn from his mistake. He seemed to learn better that way.

"A new one would probably be best," Dorian agreed, his shoulders itching almost the moment Quill's arm went around his shoulders. He fought the urge to shove him off and he started moving with Quill. Trying to match the other's footsteps was rather difficult at first. Then he managed to get a hang of it.

Dorian nearly fell when Quill suddenly flung himself forward towards the soap that two other Slytherins were going for. "Hey! Watch it!" Dorian yelled, and somehow managed to slide alongside Quill towards the last piece of soap.

They collided with such force that the other two kids, who had managed to grab the soap flew back, the soap slipping out of their hands and into the air. Dorian reached up and grabbed it before it could fall on the floor. "Come on, Get up!" Dorian yelled, pulling Quill up from the floor and started pulling him across the wet floor and towards the exit. He really didn't want to get caught in a wand war between those two, plus when they came too they'd be out for revenge. He glanced back just to make sure that they weren't hurt and was relieved to see that they were just knocked out and not bleeding.

Quillan was long since braced for impact by the actual time Dorian and he collided with the other two Slytherins. The other two scattered like bowling pins in the wake of their bodies—and it was fun (mainly because Quillan didn’t hear any strange crunching noises during impact and he seemed to be fine). The other two kids did hit the floor with quite the thud though—Merlin! Were they out cold? Quillan scrambled to his feet—curse that rope tying Dorian and him together—and looked down at the glorious mess he caused.

”I never thought that would actually work!” Quillan mused, checking to see if Dorian still held the soap in his hand. The other boy didn’t have to tell him to run again, because Quillan was soon preoccupied in skedaddling out of the bathroom. ”Say, Dorian…” He started as they slipped past the door. ”Do you think we should… ah, hide the bodies?”

It did look, at first glance, like they murdered the kids… Which never was a good thing in Hogwarts. ”Though I’m sure it’ll be more embarrassing for them to be found like that—wait, can we please pull down their pants?” Quillan begged, slowing his pace to a point where Dorian was now dragging him along. ”I mean—we’ve already knocked them out! ¾ of the work is already done!”

While Dorian was making a decision on that matter, Quillan grabbed the riddle list and opened it again, looking for the next riddle that they had.

"Though muggle desert men once called me God,
Today men call me mad,
For I was my tail when I'm angry
and growl when I am glad,"

"Egyptian dudes, right?" Quillan began--pretty knowledgeable about muggle history because of his cousin, Andrew. "It's a cat, isn't it?--but where are we going to find one... Ah... Marshmallow!" There was a twinkle in his eye--Quillan loved getting back at that damn cat! "Or Remy--but Marshmallow is easier to get in submission..."
PostPosted: Wed Jul 18, 2012 7:18 pm

Dorian was relieved that neither Quill nor he had broken any bones, though by the sound of it they had probably broken some of the other Slytherin's bones. Of course Quill didn't appear to have heard or noticed that.

Dorian shook his head at Quill's amusement. Of course he would be thrilled that they had knocked the other two kids out. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at Quill's question.

"If we stop now, another group could get ahead of us. But by all means if you want to hide the bodies let's do that." Dorian replied tersely. When he heard Quill's next suggestion he groaned in annoyance. "No we're not going to do that. Not unless you want me to depants you and rig you to the top of Hogwart's for all to see!"

Dorian ran his hand through hand through his hair impatiently as Quill read off the next riddle. He came to the same conclusion right as Quill did, but didn't say so. "Yes it's a cat." He confirmed and started walking, pulling Quill along with him back to their dorm room. "It's more than likely we won't be needing a cat, but we will be looking for a clue on one of them. I think we'll need to check both of them."

By Merlin, Dorian was being such a spoil sport. "Not unless you want me to depants you," Quillan muttered under his breath in a nasally tone. Who honestly depantsed in this day and age? Not to mention, "How cliche," Quillan announced, "Honestly, Dorian. Are you going to start spouting 'like moths to the flame' crud? I think you've been hanging out with your granny for too long," with that, Quillan began the drag up back to their common room.

Despite Dorian saying so, Quillan doubted that they wouldn't need the actual cat. What loser would waste his time pasting clues on all the cats in Hogwarts? There were just too many of them to count--not to mention, far too many sharp claws and teeth in the way. "Whatever you say, Sherlock," Quillan retorted, blowing air at a strand of hair that crept into his vision.

Just as they were turning the corner towards the dungeons, Quillan caught motion in the corner of his eye. Wut. Quillan gawked. "Merlin's Beard, what the bloody hell are you doing with my cat?!" Quillan bellowed, causing the two Slytherin boys to jump. In one of the kid's hands was Marshmallow, looking as terrified as ever. As soon as the other boys saw Quillan, they made an awkward bolt for it, hopping three-legged down the hall. "C'mon, we need to go after them! I'm not letting the bloody furball get manhandled!" He started barreling down the hall, regardless if Dorian was following suit.

Dorian could tell that Quill was annoyed with him. And he heard the red head mutter under his breath. "It's not like I could help it," Dorian snapped back, feeling rather irked by Quill's words.

"My father disappeared on some trip this summer and I was left in my grandparent's care! It was horrible. I was stuck dealing with my annoying cousins the entire time. They're ten times worse than you are!" He griped as he tried to match Quill's pace.

"Does that make you Watson then?" Dorian quipped with a smirk on his face. "If you want to win, listening to me might actually help." He added with a roll of his eyes.

He really didn't care less if Quill didn't pass the class. He would actually prefer not to have him in the same grade. That would be rather glorious, though he knew Quill would never live it down. He'd probably get picked on about it.

Dorian had been looking down at his feet so that he could move them in synchronization with Quill's so when he heard the other bellow in anger he looked up to see what had caused it. He instantly realized that the cat the other kids were messing with was Quill's. He knew that if they didn't hurry that the other two kids would get away with the poor terrified cat. The expression on the cat's face was enough to make him agree with Quill's assessment.

"Hold onto my waist," Dorian said through clenched teeth, and gripped the other's shoulders as they began to run in sync. It didn't take long for the two of them to match speed and catch up with the other two kids.

Dorian reached out with his free hand and grabbed the back of the closest kid's shirt and tugged him back viciously. "Let go of the cat, and perhaps we'll allow you to live." He sneered, his eyebrow twitching like a mad man's.
