Do you think Silent Hill will have any life left in it?
Yes, it's not over yet, there might be some hope if Konami tries.

Okay, okay, you still don't see exactly what I mean by continuing the story. XD It obviously can't be the same character without good reason, though there are reasons, and ways of using Heather again, and it can't be random protagonist, no ties to town, no use of the cult, etc.

Where did you get the idea I hate four? I like SH4. biggrin claims it is Jimmy Stone, come on, lets face it, it's obviously Pyramid Head in two, Four had to go down some route though so I guess what they did isn't as illegal as the Otherworld, and cult in the games after it. I personally do like four for how they freshened things up without removing the cult aspect.

No Homecoming did not expand the cult storyline. Plot to Homecoming in a nutshell: Alex finds out he was supposed to be sacrificed but wasn't, Cult Gods get pissed, he goes to Silent Hill where *FORGETS THE DUDE'S NAME* mentions something about Cybil, Alex watches his mommy and daddy die in the most ridiculous way possible, fights boss, end. Please don't take it the wrong way, they just didn't really give the cult much of a reason... XD

Now if they were actually hatching anything extraordinary, I could agree, and I'm sure they were trying, but what I am saying is that it fails to meet the ends it needed to meet, this isn't to say Homecoming was that terrible, because I actually dare to say I half enjoyed the beginning, the music made me feel like they were setting us up for something awesome, it definitely half felt awesome, it wasn't that what in my opinion ruined it, it was how the implemented going to Silent Hill, it was comical.

(Not yelling, not fighting, don't worry, not trying to be rude below)
To your argument of rehashing old characters, you keep misunderstanding me. XD Maybe I'm not very clear that WE DON'T NEED ALESSA, HEATHER, JAMES, HENRY, ETC. WE NEED THE CULT TO BE LIKE IN THE FIRST, and third GAME.

Besides, we can't keep rehashing the "GUILT" The "RANDOM STORY PROTAGONIST WITH POOR SYMBOLISM VERSION OF SH2" and we can't keep having the plot where there is no cult.

The spiritual power reflecting the insanity of the town may be tied to Alessa, but lets face it, their emotions have caused the corruption of the town as people see it. Even if they aren't seen going after Alessa again, they need to try to revive "God" or do some kind of important ritual here, maybe not even "God" but without the madness, what is the point of continuing?

You prefer no reason, to a good reason?

As for what I would do with the series, well we know that if any cult members remain, they are likely insane, lets face it here, they have stayed despite persecution from the Police, and the death of their cult leaders at the hands of Harry, Heather, and Walter, they probably want to see their "Judgement Day" be fulfilled. Chances are, they would try to go after Alessa again, or in some way create another means of causing the same effect. They want to resurrect their "God" to "save the world" they could probably find somebody else with some kind of power, Vincent said Claudia had "power" and the "God" birthed through her so it must be possible.
So without said character Heather, I guess introduce another protagonist NOT DIRECTLY RELATED YET VERY CLOSELY IMPORTANT. Lets face it, Harry had no contact with Alessa until Cheryl, so my argument never was that they need to be bloodline related.
This character could possible even be a member of the cult, or somebody within the town's history. Lisa did say that people moved away if you listen carefully, so some people could be shunned possibly by the cult for leaving, or perhaps this said person wants to come back to see how things have changed in many years, maybe they just have this haunting call to come see the place. Meanwhile, the spiritual power brings them there, has them to do things that cause them to stumble upon the rebuilding cult, who requires their indirect help to resurrect said "God".

Or in my story's case, have a character coming in who's bloodline is needed by the cult, have the cult sadistically torture him in a mental way by killing his family, making him look at them, physically beat him down slowly, and have him struggle to understand why they are doing this to him, then it is revealed that they are trying to lure people to the town at this moment in time as sacrifices to summon said "God" I am not being specific for a reason. So many open stories could be scrapped from these basic ideas.

Doesn't Silent Hill 2 establish that James's manifestation of Pyramid Head was based on an image he had seen of the cult's executioner, who wore a red hood in honor of Valtiel? Jimmy Stone was the executioner. Even if the supplemental material hadn't gone so far as to call Stone "The Red Devil," his very role in the cult provides the connection. razz

Don't ignore the overarching plot of Homecoming! xd Long ago, a group of cultists decided they wanted to escape the Order, but to be left in peace, they made a pact to sacrifice a child every however-many years. When the accidental death of Josh screws up the pact, the god retaliates. Margaret then launches a plan to specifically rebuild the old cult. It was a different view of the cult, one in which it is mostly in shambles, and someone whose ancestors left it long ago is trying to bring it back, albeit for selfish reasons.

Homecoming didn't do things perfectly, but it did try to show a new angle of the cult. It's true that the main character was only tangentially related, but that was as close a connection as Harry or Henry.

Unfortunately, the "guilt" scenario you just parodied is what most people think Silent Hill is. SH2 made a major impression on people.

Without telling me spoilers, could you just answer one small question--Am I to assume that...Howard? (the mailman guy) has no connection to the cult?

Your ideas sound fine. Maybe Konami will go with some of them. But it's still a business, and if the gameplay is still good and the majority of the fanbase cheers on the lack of the cult, I don't think we have a chance.

By the way, I heard from a friend who played Downpour that it actually does have several references to the cult; they're just subtle.

Yeah, that's fine and all, and don't get me wrong, the references are cool, it's just that they are basically just Easter Eggs though. XD It doesn't really add anything, though I admit them modeling room 302 in it is kind of cool. You can't go into any doors, or anything, or examine, or tamper with any of Henry's things, but it's cool. I can show you a vid if you care to see.

This is true, they are probably going to go with whoever their fans are, and I guess that the Howard dude could be in some way related to the cult, to what I've seen of the comic, it reminds me of Silent Hill 2 especially though.

Nah, I'll wait til my friend gets to that part in her LP.

My point was that if there are references to the cult itself, however subtle they are, it fixes Downpour in canon. It isn't pretending the cult doesn't exist.

There's at least one petition out there to bring Downpour to PC. My understanding is that due to the format it is in, it would be very easy to port, so we wouldn't have to worry about it having problems like the Homecoming one...

Steam only, I think. I almost got it until I read a review--apparently if you open it in any but 1 particular resolution, it crashed, and the controls make the QTEs nearly undoable. Sounds like a fairly broken port.

Yeah.
But something I read indicated that Downpour's format would make it simple to port to PC.

Well that's good then, if they do that, they've already proven their superiority to Homecoming, at least to some degree.
